http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-met-illinois-conservative-news-20180327-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A copy of the East Central Reporter landed in select mailboxes in 2016 with the look of a typical local newspaper. It had a community calendar. It listed high school sports statistics. And it contained an article about a statehouse candidate’s pitch to voters. But was that story news? Or was it a novel form of political advertising? Recently obtained documents and interviews show that an organization called Think Freely Media helped fund the operation that produced the article for the East Central Reporter’s website. As a nonprofit, Think Freely is forbidden by federal law from engaging in politics, and it has described the articles it funded as news. But State Board of Elections records also show a political committee, Liberty Principles, paid the same private company to publish the story in a print newspaper and mail it. That group, which state law says must spend its money on politicking, has labeled such content political ads. What these organizations have in common is one of the state’s most visible and controversial political figures, Dan Proft. Though Proft is known for backing conservative candidates for office through Liberty Principles, recent tax, business and campaign filings illuminate how other organizations with ties to Proft helped spread his political views through publications that showcase candidates he supports. It’s a situation that encompasses not only ethical questions about a modern tool of Illinois political warfare but also the national discussion over what constitutes “fake news.” Since 2015, thousands of articles have been published in more than two dozen print and online publications tied to Proft, who in addition to heading Liberty Principles has served as a consultant to Think Freely Media. The first articles were produced by a firm run by media entrepreneur Brian Timpone, a longtime friend of Proft’s who has frequently discussed Illinois politics as a guest on Proft’s morning radio show. Timpone’s firm, called Newsinator, also has a history of doing paid political work and offers marketing services to companies under the name Interactive Content Services. After Proft’s political committee paid Newsinator in 2016 to mail print versions of some publications to voters, the state elections board ordered Liberty Principles to identify such materials as political advertising more clearly in the future. But regulators did not impose fines, and since then, records and interviews show, Proft has doubled down on his media venture by teaming with Timpone to start a new private company, Local Government Information Services, that now runs the websites and publications created by Newsinator. (GRAPHIC) The new firm lists 29 websites it controls and 11 print publications, with names ranging from the Grundy Reporter to the North Cook News. The sites typically mix community calendars and local sports coverage, largely computer-generated, with articles that range from statistical dives into local government spending to stories that feature candidates whom Proft’s political committee has supported. The publications’ emergence over the past three years has drawn a range of critics, including Proft’s political opponents in both parties as well as journalists who have worked for traditional news organizations. Among them is Charlie Wheeler, a former longtime Chicago Sun-Times reporter who now directs the public affairs reporting program at the University of Illinois at Springfield. “They purport to be newspapers, but in my judgment they don’t subscribe to the tenets of traditional journalism. They do not provide balanced coverage,” Wheeler said. . .Different views of news. . .Funding a network. . .An ‘electioneering’ paper. . .New company takes over)

The average 2017 tax bill on a single-family home in Lake County was higher than nearly 99 percent of the 1,414 U.S. counties covered by the report, released April 5 by Attom Data Solutions. The region’s other counties aren’t far behind. The average bill in DuPage County is higher than nearly 98 percent, followed by Kane County and McHenry County (both 96 percent), Cook County (94 percent) and Will County (93 percent). The report covers only counties where there are 10,000 single-family homes or more. In all, the nation has 3,144 counties, or more than twice the number in Attom’s study. Consequently, my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, gave me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, got rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $19,203 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. My Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974. The consumer bureau, as well as fellow financial regulators like the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, is allowed under federal law to pay employees significantly more than other government agencies can pay. The rationale is that the higher salaries are necessary to recruit skilled employees who otherwise might land jobs on Wall Street. As a result, the C.F.P.B. is stocked with employees who earn more than the average Washington bureaucrat. Of the agency’s 1,600 employees, 219 make more than $200,000, according to the records reviewed by The Times.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Kevin Morrison v. Timothy Schneider: Every vote matters – Hal Dardick
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-bruce-rauner-godfather-20180405-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: One of two Democrats vying to take on Republican Cook County Board Commissioner Timothy Schneider of Bartlett declared victory this week, after he was 12 votes ahead when provisional ballot counting ended Monday. Barring any last-minute hitches before the county election results are certified Tuesday, Kevin Morrison of Elk Grove Village will face Schneider, chairman of the state GOP and an ally of Gov. Rauner, in November. Democrats figure Schneider could be vulnerable, given that Hillary Clinton got 57 percent of the vote in his northwest suburban district in 2016, compared with 37 percent for President Donald Trump. “The status quo isn’t working for our families,” Morrison said in his statement declaring victory in the primary. Schneider enthusiastically cast the state Republican Party’s votes for Trump at the 2016 Republican National Convention. On Wednesday, he acknowledged Trump fared poorly in his district, but said that was a countywide phenomenon and not an indication of a broader political shift. “My district is historically Republican, and I believe it will remain that way,” he said. Morrison is a 28-year-old former special projects coordinator for Democratic U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi of Schaumburg. He’s backed by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees — a union that Rauner has battled and pejoratively referred to as “Af-Scammy.” Schneider, 62, is a fiscally conservative golf course owner who in 2016 voted against the now-repealed county pop tax and in 2015 against the county’s 1-percentage-point increase in the sales tax. Over the years, he’s also often been the lone “no” vote against county worker labor contracts.)

ILLINOIS TIMES
— Rosanna Pulido: The anti-welcome lady A veteran immigration fighter finds her voice in Springfield – Fletcher Farrar
http://illinoistimes.com/article-19857-the-anti-welcome-lady.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Rosanna Pulido was nearly unknown in Springfield until last fall when she emerged as the strongest citizen voice opposing the city council resolution to make Springfield a “Welcoming City.” The resolution is positive, progressive and innocuous, with phrases like, “the City of Springfield is committed to continue building a neighborly and welcoming atmosphere in our community, where all are welcome, accepted and appreciated.” But to Pulido, there is nothing innocuous about opening the city’s doors to immigrants and refugees, who she equates with “illegal aliens.” Her arguments that the resolution would be a foot in the door leading to all kinds of harm, from increased crime to increased costs for public services, helped persuade aldermen to table the resolution on a 7-3 vote, with Mayor Jim Langfelder, the son of an immigrant, announcing his opposition as well. She is well known nationally for her past anti-immigrant activism in Chicago. Pulido has only recently become vocal in Springfield, where she moved three years ago. She had spent several years caring for her parents in their final years – first her mother until her death, then her father. After the death of her father, who lived in Texas, she accepted the offer of a friend for whom she had been maid of honor to stay at her home in LaSalle County while she was deciding what to do next. Pulido found peace and quiet there, then moved to Springfield. She speaks of wanting to retire, perhaps from activism, but still has some fight left, now that the national mood seems headed in her direction. “I love Donald Trump,” she says. “He’s with me on immigration. I’ve been battling that since 2003 – fighting, fighting, fighting. Now I see a ray of hope.” In 2001 a friend who was police chief helped her land a job as police dispatcher in Northfield, Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago. She was appalled when a police detective brought in four different fake IDs, each one slightly different, from a crime suspect who had been arrested. “That opened my eyes to what was going on,” she said. Soon there was a movement to “give driver’s licenses to illegal aliens” and she became active in the fight against that. In 2005 she joined the national group the Minuteman Project in its gathering of some 1,200 volunteers on the Arizona-Mexico border for a citizens patrol to prevent Mexicans from illegally crossing into the U.S. Upon her return she organized an Illinois chapter of the Minutemen. The Minuteman Project has been called a “hate group” for its zeal in the fight against undocumented immigrants. Is it a hate group? “We’re all just regular people,” Pulido says. Over the years she’s associated with other groups accused of being hate groups, including the Federation for American Immigration Reform, for which she is now state adviser. Labeling groups as hate groups is “the way they do things now,” she says. “Everything is blown out of proportion. I’m not going to worry about it.” She then names several left-leaning groups that oppose her point of view. “They’re hate groups. They’re anti-American. They want to change America and our way of life.” Much of Pulido’s public record of controversial statements comes from her 2009 run for Congress as the Republican nominee in the special election to fill the seat vacated by Rahm Emanuel, a race she lost to Democrat Mike Quigley. The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights has listed her statements on two fact sheets titled, “The Real Hate in the Debate.” “They hate me,” she says of ICIRR. But she doesn’t deny the statements the group attributes to her, one of which is an off-color joke about gays she had posted on the internet before she began her political campaign. “I made a joke about gays,” she tells me in our interview. “I’m not perfect. I’m going to screw up. I make mistakes.” She says her joke was brought up at a campaign appearance at a gay bar. “I told them I did it, and if I offended anybody I’m sorry. The whole gay bar stood up and gave me a standing ovation.” In Chicago she accused the Catholic church of deliberately luring illegal immigrants to support Catholic social programs. “If the church succeeds in their mission, they will destroy the United States of America,” she said in testimony to an Illinois House committee. “That’s absolutely true,” she says now, while insisting she is not anti-Catholic, having attended a Catholic grade school and an all-girls Catholic high school. No longer Catholic, she is now an evangelical Christian, but she admires her father for remaining a staunch Catholic to the end. She also had posted a comment about Muslims praying. “It reminds me of my dog, smelling butts,” she wrote in 2003. She apologized for that also during the campaign. “Because I’m human. I make mistakes.” She said conservatives make jokes among themselves that may not be appropriate for a wider audience. “If I were with other Hispanics, I could make jokes about Hispanics,” she told me. I asked her if she is a bigot. “I’m a Mexican,” she replies. “I can’t be bigoted.” Pulido often refers to her Mexican heritage, though she was born in Chicago and her parents were both born in Texas. When I asked in an email how far back are her Mexican roots, her reply said in part, “We’re all immigrants from somewhere,” with a clip of President Bill Clinton in 1995 saying it is wrong for a “nation of immigrants” to permit abuse of immigration laws. In Springfield, Pulido may get her second wind. “I’m not afraid to speak out,” she says. “I am not afraid.”)

ILLINOIS CHRONICLE
— Post-primary poll has Rauner down 22 points (DIERSEN: In Illinois, almost always, when Republican candidates lose in general elections, they blame those who supported their opponents in primary elections. In Illinois, almost always, Republicans who win in primary elections, but lose in general elections, fail/refuse to defend/advance the traditional family, right to life, immigration, and/or other planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform.)
https://theillinoischronicle.com/chronicle-post-primary-poll-has-rauner-down-22-points/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A new poll taken after Illinois’s bruising gubernatorial primary does not have good news for Governor Bruce Rauner, who is losing to Democratic nominee J.B. Pritzker by 22 points in the survey. Perhaps even more ominously, Rauner’s unfavorable ratings are double his favorable. Polling like this one, by Odgen & Fry, have led analysts to rate Rauner the country’s most vulnerable governor. A Politico analysis takes note of the strong challenge waged by Republican primary opponent, State Rep. Jeanne Ives, who Politico wrote, ran “incendiary television ads aimed at turning conservatives against the incumbent.” Rauner barely won the primary. Last month, a poll found Rauner is even much less liked than President Donald Trump statewide. Rauner’s favorable rating has sunk to an epic low with just 26% of Illinois voters saying they have a favorable view of the Governor. 63% have an unfavorable view. Meanwhile President Donald Trump has a favorability of 37% of voters statewide, while 58% rated him unfavorably. Among just Republican voters, the poll found that just 49% view Rauner favorably, while President Trump’s scores 73% favorable among those voters. “That’s just spectacularly lousy for a governor who isn’t under criminal investigation,” said Illinois political blogger Rich Miller, of the results. In June, an overview of governors’ races by the respected non-partisan political prognosticator The Cook Report agreed with Politico’s view and labeled Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner as the most vulnerable incumbent seeking re-election in 2018. The analysis noted that “Rauner has been under siege for much of his term,” due to his failure to pass a state budget.)

DAILY CALLER
— Orange County Plunges Into Trumpworld With Immigrant Detainer Battle – Raoul Lowery-Contreras (DIERSEN: What has your county done that shows that it wants to enforce federal immigration laws?)
http://dailycaller.com/2018/04/05/orange-county-immigrant-detainer-battle/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Supporters of President Donald Trump in Orange County California could not deliver their famous Republican county for Donald Trump in the 2016 election. Part of the reason was that the county seat, the city of Santa Ana, was and is the second largest Mexican-American city in the country after San Antonio, Texas. Trump barely scored 20 percent with Hispanic voters around the country — and probably less in California. Now, 17 months after Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton swamped Trump in California by 4 million votes and Orange County by 102,000, Orange County’s allegedly conservative political leaders are rebelling against the governor and legislature that have passed laws making the state a “sanctuary” state; that is, affording some illegal immigrants protection from federal law enforcement. President Trump is cheering the county sheriff and county board by tweets like an energetic girl cheerleader who starts her day with two expressos. Orange County is rebelling against the state of California that passed into law prohibitions of state employees and private businesses from actively helping federal authorities violate federal court orders on immigration sweeps and detention of prisoners until the federal government gets around to securing judge-signed arrest warrants. Some observers wonder how the Orange County Board of Supervisors can sue the state when, in fact, California counties are mere subdivisions of the state. Specifically, how can Orange County sue when the very actions the Trump administration wants to implement in California have been ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge? The Los Angeles Times: “A federal judge in Los Angeles has ruled that police departments violate the Constitution if they detain inmates at the request of immigration agents…U.S. District Judge Andre Birotte Jr. found that…the constitutional rights of inmates who were kept in custody at the behest of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers (their rights were violated)…police cannot legally honor such detainer requests from ICE…‘officers have no authority to arrest individuals for civil immigration offenses, and thus, detaining individuals beyond their date for release violated the individuals’ Fourth Amendment rights.” So, what is Orange County up to? The county sheriff’s department has come up with a way that is side-stepping the state law (SB 54) that limits cooperation between the sheriff and the federal government. The department is publishing a list of all inmates with their release dates on the internet.)

— YouTube shooter identified as user Nasim Aghdam
http://abc7chicago.com/sources-youtube-shooter-identified-as-user-nasim-aghdam/3298743/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: According to her website, a possible motivation for the shooting could have been tied to her many YouTube accounts, which she says have seen a decline in viewership over the past few months. She embedded videos from the biggest YouTubers on the platform on the site, including massive creator Casey Neistat. In them, they talk about the YouTube “Ad-apocalypse” where many users are seeing massive dips in traffic, subscriber count loss, and de-monetization of videos. Neistat has more than 9,000,000 subscribers and made a famous video about the YouTube ad revenue scare for creators. It appears that Aghdam was disgruntled by the changes in the YouTube platform. She wrote on her website, “Be aware! Dictatorship exists in all countries but with different tactics! They only care for personal and short-term profits and do anything to reach their goals even by fooling simple-minded people, hiding the truth, manipulating science and everything, putting public mental and physical health at risk, abusing non-human animals, polluting the environment, destroying family values, promoting materialism and sexual degeneration in the name of freedom and turning people into programmed robots!” She goes on to quote Adolf Hitler saying, “Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it and eventually they will believe it.” The rest of her message targets YouTube and censorship. “There is no free speech in the real world and you will be suppressed for telling the truth that is not supported by the system. Videos of targeted users are filtered and merely relegated so that people can hardly see their videos.” Aghdam’s website shows screenshots of her “reduced” and “supressed” videos. She referred to a specific video that appeared to be an instructional video for a workout saying, “This video got age-restricted after new, close-minded YouTube employees got control of my farsi YouTube channel last year, 2016, and began filtering my videos to reduce views and suppress and discourage me from making my videos!” Feb. 20, YouTube enacted a new advertising policy that demonetized channels with less than 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of watch time. Though Aghdam’s main English channel had more than 5,000 subscribers, many of her videos appeared to be demonetized.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Lake County Republican Party is slated to hold its official county GOP convention on April 18 at Concorde Banquets in Kildeer. “All Lake County Republican precinct committeemen who were duly elected and certified in the March 20, 2018, Republican primary election are called on to attend the county convention and cast their respective weighted votes for chairman of the Lake County Republican Central Committee, Central Committeemen of the Illinois Republican Party from their respective congressional districts, duly proposed amendments to the bylaws of the Lake County Republican Central Committee, various legislative and representative committees and certain other important business of the Lake County Republican Central Committee,” Lake County Republican Party Chairman Mark Shaw said in a press release. Shaw added “all 18 Republican Township Organizations will convene to conduct business relevant to their respective organizations and to caucus regarding the business to be conducted at the county convention, which (will be) gaveled to order at 7 p.m. that same evening.” “Recently, I announced my candidacy for re-election and would be honored if you would be my guest at the event,” Shaw said in the release disbursed among GOP leaders. Shaw is also committeeman for the 10th Congressional District and ran for representative in the 58th House District in 2012, losing to Scott Drury (D-Highwood). Among the Republican winners in the March 20, primary that will be on the ballot for the Nov. 6 general election are Gov. Bruce Rauner, states attorney candidate Erika Harold and secretary of state candidate Jason Helland. In other races on the fall ballot where GOP incumbents will be seeking another term, U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Wheaton) is set to face Democrat Sean Casten in the 6th Congressional District, Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-Plano) takes on Lauren Underwood in the 14th Congressional District, state Rep. David McSweeney (R-Barrington Hills) squares off against Democrat Bill Downs in the 52nd House District, and state Sen. Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Hills) faces Tom Georges in the 26th Senate District.)

ONE NEWS NOW
— Next up: Gov’t-endorsed bullying, taunting? If LGBTQ advocates in Illinois get their way, all public school students will be indoctrinated with pro-homosexual propaganda from the time they’re five years old. – Bob Kellogg
https://www.onenewsnow.com/education/2018/04/04/next-up-govt-endorsed-bullying-taunting
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Homosexual and transgender activists have persuaded liberal legislators to sponsor legislation that would require all public school (K-12) textbooks, regardless of the subject, to proclaim positive contributions of homosexuals to society. “[This legislation] would require that any book or book substitute that will be used as a text or text substitute include the ‘role and contributions’ of homosexuals and men and women who adopt opposite-sex persona [a.k.a., transgenderism],” explains Laurie Higgins with the Illinois Family Institute. Two Democratic lawmakers – State Senator Heather Steans and State Representative Anna Moeller – are the sponsors of SB 3249 and HB 5596 respectively. The bills also “require every public elementary school and high school to include in its curriculum a unit of instruction studying the significant role of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals in society.” Higgins warns parents that those who live outside of Illinois shouldn’t brush aside this information, believing it will not affect them. “This will come to other states,” she warns. “It started in California; now it’s coming to Illinois. All it takes is a couple of homosexuals and/or leftists in your state legislature to bring this bill and it will be in your schools, too.” And the danger in that, according to Stella Morabito at The Federalist, is that the highly politicized nature of public schools will essentially “draw virtual targets” on the backs of students whose beliefs don’t align with the school’s. “A bully [would be] free to target with the taunt ‘bigot’ any child who comes from a traditional Christian home – and the curricula will back them up,” Morabito writes. Higgins is convinced that should the legislation pass, Republican Governor Bruce Rauner would sign it into law. It would become effective July 1, 2019. She recommends a two-fold approach to parents at this time: fight the bills – but at the same time “plan an escape route for your children from government schools.”)

My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always viciously demonized, viciously denigrated, and viciously condemned the work experience that I gained working for IRS 1971-1980, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880 and for GAO 1980-1997, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently $96,403-$125,325. What opinion do those who represent you in government and in politics have of the work experience that you have? (FROM THE ARTICLE: Since President Trump ousted Veterans Administration Secretary David Shulkin, the question reverberating in Washington is whether Trump’s new pick, Admiral Ronny Jackson, is capable of heading a department with 360,000 employees and 9 million vets under its care. Senate Democrats carp he lacks experience running “a complex organization.” Experience is overrated. President Obama’s VA Secretary, Robert McDonald, failed miserably, despite having run Procter & Gamble. Vets died on phony wait lists on McDonald’s watch. . .Pundits are predicting a confirmation battle. The smart money should be on Jackson. He’s combat tested. Disregard the partisan drivel about his lack of experience running a big organization. It’s coming from the same people who had no problem making a community organizer the President.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Indian government called the decree a crackdown on fake news. It lasted less than a day. On Monday evening, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting abruptly announced that it would penalize journalists who spread “fake news,” the term popularized by President Trump to disparage what he has regarded as unfair coverage of his 2016 American presidential campaign and first year in office. The term is now widely used around the world by authoritarian politicians and governments to describe reporting that they find objectionable. Members of India’s freewheeling press expressed shock and outrage at the announcement, seeing the hidden hand of Prime Minister Narendra Modi — who enjoys warm relations with Mr. Trump — to quell negative media coverage ahead of India’s general election next year.)

https://www.wsj.com/articles/california-a-sanctuary-for-criminals-1522793743
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In Orange County, we reject this kind of reckless behavior. As a member of the Board of Supervisors, I have a say in how to improve my community of 3.2 million residents. We are home to large groups of immigrant communities, and we fully embrace the diverse cultures of our immigrant population. Our concern is about criminal illegal aliens who are falling through the cracks because our sheriff can’t talk to federal immigration agents. On March 27 I introduced a resolution to condemn the state sanctuary law and to direct county counsel to take legal action. Every Orange County supervisor present voted in favor. We currently are reviewing the best ways in which to intervene in the federal government’s lawsuit against California. States cannot simply opt out of federal laws they don’t like. If tomorrow California decided that the First Amendment was a nuisance and passed legislation to restrict this constitutional right, Americans wouldn’t accept the new law. I came to this country with a great respect for the freedom and safety that the Constitution affords its citizens. Condemning the sanctuary law has nothing to do with race or politics. It’s about protecting Americans and their constitutional rights. There’s a long road ahead in fixing our broken immigration system, but, along the way, local law enforcement should cooperate fully with the federal law.)

— More Employees Report Seeing Prohibited Personnel Practices (DIERSEN: While I worked for the federal government for almost 30 years, I saw my Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates commit many PPPs, most commonly, a) discriminating against federal employees because they were Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran and had not made GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40 and b) wasting the careers of and getting rid of employees who complained about patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age retaliation, and/or retaliation.)

http://www.fedweek.com/fedweek/more-employees-report-seeing-prohibited-personnel-practices/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: More federal employees reported in 2016 that they had seen prohibited personnel practices in the workplace than in 2010, MSPB has said in a preview of an upcoming report. A budget-related document notes that until the MSPB board has a quorum—it has lacked one for more than a year although nominees for the two vacant seats recently were named—it cannot issue the kind of studies it conducts regularly into federal personnel issues. However, it gave some detail regarding reports in progress. One shows that in a survey MSPB conducted in 2016, more employees reported observing “PPPs”—which include whistleblower retaliation, various forms of discrimination, decisions not based on merit, and more—compared with a similar survey in 2010. “Notably, only 54 percent of respondents in 2016 indicated that they had observed no PPPs, compared to 78 percent in 2010,” it says. The later survey also found high rates of employees reporting that their agencies are not complying with new PPP created in 2012, that non-disclosure policies must include language stating that the policies do not reduce employee whistleblowing rights. MSPB added that it is working on several other studies that rely in part on the survey data. “Those studies cover areas such as individual drivers of employee engagement, sexual harassment, performance management, effectiveness of the HR workforce, and the Pathways program,” it said.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: But inside the precincts of Madigan’s district on Election Day, I had a clear look at how his political machine keeps churning along, and how it probably will for as long as he wants. The power of the most powerful politician in Illinois starts with his election operation and service delivery in his home ward. When I stepped into the basement polling place, I was greeted by an election judge who noted my surprise. “It’s not uncommon in our community,” she said. As I later learned, she was partly right. At one time, dozens of Chicago houses served as voting sites — as many as 150 in 1989, according to a Chicago Tribune article that year. Most were picked as polling places years or even decades earlier, when election officials favored locations in the middle of each precinct. That was also a time when the Democratic Machine had a tighter grip on the entire electoral process. The house on 68th Street has been used as a polling place since at least 2007, according to the available Chicago Board of Election records, but probably far longer. The owners didn’t respond to inquiries about it. By the primary this year, it was the only single-family house still used as a polling place in Chicago, records show.)

We need everyone to support facts and denounce fakery. – Jane Elizabeth (DIERSEN: According to my critics/opponents, all news is fake except for the news that they put out or bless. That work required assuring the accuracy and support for each and every word, number, table, graph, chart, conclusion, opinion, and recommendation in GAO reports. I worked for IRS 1971-1980, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880. April 1 Morning Edition

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— What were you doing 40 years ago today? My wife Karen and I were getting married at her Catholic church in Chicago. We both worked in downtown Chicago. I had worked for IRS since 1971 and she had worked for the U.S. League of Savings Institutions since 1970. In today’s dollars, IRS paid me $89,178/year. We used her savings for the down payment to buy 1017 East Harrison in Wheaton and we used the profit from the sale of my one bedroom condo in the Outer Drive East building to buy a new 1978 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale and a new 1978 Chevy Chevette. I soon sold my 1962 Chevy BelAir and I continued to store my 1972 Corvette in my mother’s garage in Crete. I took graduate accounting courses at DePaul’s downtown building and Karen soon started taking courses there toward a bachelor’s degree in finance. Because of Money Magazine’s February 1978 4-page article on us, IRS had disallowed all the graduate business courses that I had taken at Loyola and all the graduate accounting courses that I had taken at DePaul. Eventually, I won a split decision in Tax Court. The judge imposed a new rule that you cannot deduct accounting courses until you are qualified to take the CPA examination. I continued to rent out a town home in University Park that I had bought new in 1972.  I sold it in 1984 when we had 915 Cove Court built in Wheaton. – Dave Diersen

Why did 105 in my precinct cast Republican primary ballots and voted for either Rauner/Sanguinetti or Ives/Morthland, but in the uncontested races, only 81 voted for Helland, only 81 voted for Senger, only 80 voted for Dodge, only 87 voted for Roskam, only 84 voted for Connelly, only 78 voted for Ruscitti, only 81 voted for Cronin, only 80 voted for Hinds, only 84 voted for Henry, only 75 voted for Cantore, only 76 voted for Wilson, only 75 voted for Mackay, and only 77 voted for me. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Weeks ago, Trump set off a firestorm among his base of supporters when he signed off on House Speaker Paul Ryan’s omnibus spending bill that does not include a single provision from the president’s 70-point list of pro-American immigration reforms. Those reforms include building a wall along the southern border, ending chain migration (which would cut legal immigration in half), mandating E-Verify to ban employers from hiring illegal aliens, and ending the “Catch and Release” program that releases illegal aliens into the interior of the country. At the time, Coulter blasted Trump, saying “in one generation,” the U.S. would become South Africa.)

— CASTEN RESPONDS (DIERSEN: Will Casten call for Roskam to increase the $10,000 SALT cap to $20,000 for married filing jointly? Government should encourage marriage and homeownership.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Sean Casten, Democratic nominee for Congress challenging incumbent Peter Roskam in the 6th District, refuses to define Roskam’s claims this week involving a property tax deduction as “a success.” Roskam’s office received word from the U.S. Treasury Department that suggested Illinois taxpayer who filed before Jan. 1 can deduct their property taxes. Casten called a foul, asking, “Does Roskam think we’re going to forget that he was largely responsible for hitting us with this unfair tax hike in the first place?” He writes: “Hard-working homeowners throughout our district were counting on that property tax deduction, and Roskam sold them out in favor of the wealthy special interests that fund his campaign. Instead of writing self-serving letters to the Treasury Department, Roskam should try doing the job he was elected to do — working on behalf of the people who live right here in the 6th District.”)
— ROSKAM HITS BACK
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Also on Thursday, Roskam released a statement that blasted Casten for not saying whether he agrees or not with a tax plan proposed by Congressional Democrats if they win the majority in the midterm elections. Democrats are proposing a repeal of major pieces of President Trump’s tax reform legislation. Their plan would raise taxes on corporations and high-income households in order to pay for a $1 trillion infrastructure package. “The thousands of families who have received meaningful tax relief this year deserve to know whether Sean Casten fully supports his party’s efforts to raise tax rates and fully reinstate the Alternative Minimum Tax,” said Roskam for Congress spokesman Veronica Vera. “Now that his party has committed to increasing taxes on families and small businesses, Sean Casten has a responsibility to Sixth District voters to be honest about his intentions to raise their taxes.”)

After 1986, my Democrat GAO superiors rejected all my applications for GS-14 positions.)
http://www.gopusa.com/?p=42614
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The backlash began earlier in the week, when Ingraham made fun of Hogg, who has been a vocal activist after the Feb. 14 shooting that claimed 17 lives, for being rejected from four universities in the University of California school system. She tweeted a story by the Daily Wire addressing the rejections, adding on Twitter, “David Hogg Rejected By Four Colleges To Which He Applied and whines about it. (Dinged by UCLA with a 4.1 GPA…totally predictable given acceptance rates.)” Hogg, who has a 4.2 GPA, was accepted by Florida Atlantic University, Cal Poly and Cal State San Marcos. The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School senior was in the school when shooter Nikolas Cruz opened fire, killing 14 students and three faculty members.)

IMMIGRATION REFORM
— California Sheriff Rejects “Sanctuary” Law, Makes Information on Illegals Public – JOE GOMEZ (DIERSEN: Needless-to-say, DuPage County Sheriff John Zaruba should do this immediately. Federal law trumps state law.)
https://immigrationreform.com/2018/03/27/california-sheriff-rejects-sanctuary-law-makes-information-illegals-public/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has announced that it will begin publishing a list of criminal aliens who are inmates in the county jail, as part of its existing “Who’s in Jail,” online database. The information made public will also include when criminal aliens are released from jail, a move that comes in direct retaliation to the state’s “sanctuary” laws which prohibit cooperation between police and federal immigration officials. “This is in response to SB-54 limiting our ability to communicate with federal authorities and our concern that criminals are being released to the street when there’s another avenue to safeguard the community by handing them over (to ICE for potential deportation),” Orange County Undersheriff Don Barnes said. California’s “sanctuary law” has recently encountered resistance to this dangerous policy from multiple communities in California. Most notably, the City Council in Los Alamitos voted last week on an ordinance to exempt the city from state law over concerns that it is unconstitutional. The Yorba Linda City Council agreed to file an amicus brief to a lawsuit filed by the Department of Justice against California. The Orange County Board of Supervisors are also expected to consider a range of possible actions against the state law as well. Open borders groups like the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) have been actively working to prevent cities in California from opposing the states “sanctuary” laws.)

I should write a book about the a) almost 3 years that I worked for the Democrats who ran the Park Forest Post office 1966-1969, b) almost 9 years that I worked for the Democrats who ran IRS in Chicago 1971-1980, and c) the almost 18 years that I worked for the Democrats who ran GAO in Chicago 1980-1997. When Republicans got elected, my Democrat superiors worked even harder to get rid of me.)
https://www.politico.com/story/2018/03/30/trump-washington-civil-servants-492347
(FROM THE ARTICLE: One Health and Human Services employee swore off online dating after potential suitors repeatedly got upset that he worked for the Trump administration. An Education Department fellow eagerly returned to teaching after listening to Betsy DeVos bash public schools. And one Environmental Protection Agency official said staffers are distraught at having to personally dismantle regulations they spent years crafting. This is Donald Trump’s government 14 months into his presidency. Interviews with nearly three dozen current and recently departed workers across the ideological spectrum and across the federal bureaucracy — from the State Department to the Interior Department — show that Trump’s presidency has fundamentally altered the lives of government workers in ways big and small. Trump’s frequent attacks on the “deep state” have engendered deep distrust between career and political employees, pushing many long-time civil servants toward the exits and raising the possibility of a government-wide brain drain. And while some workers, such as Border Patrol agents, are feeling newly empowered under Trump, morale at other agencies is so low that some employees said they were suffering from increased anxiety and depression that has complicated their personal relationships and even led to heavier drinking. Several career employees said they were keeping their heads down and ignoring possible avenues for promotions because they have little interest in being subjected to the political infighting that has taken hold in many agencies. “It’s the worst administration and I’ve dealt with all of them from Ronald Reagan all the way forward,” said Jeffrey David Cox, the national president of the American Federation of Government Employees, the country’s largest federal employee union. “The worst with morale of employees. The worst with constantly wanting to take away rights and benefits. And the worst in trying to starve the agencies of resources.”)

My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always viciously demonized, viciously denigrated, and viciously condemned the work experience that I gained working for the Post Office 1966-1969, for IRS 1971-1980, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880, and for GAO 1980-1997, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently $96,403-$125,325. — Can Democrats Flip Crucial Governors’ Seats? In the 36 gubernatorial races this fall, all but 10 of the states are currently led by Republicans. – LOUIS JACOBSON
http://www.governing.com/topics/politics/gov-2018-governors-races-republicans-election.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) Even before the March 20 primary, Rauner was vulnerable, thanks in part to an ongoing battle with the Democratic-controlled legislature, which kept the state without a full budget for more than two years, as well as from a conservative backlash over his decision to sign a bill providing state funding for abortions for low-income women. On primary day, he barely edged out socially conservative challenger Jeanne Ives. Meanwhile, J.B. Pritzker, a multibillionaire and the brother of the former Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker, easily defeated Chris Kennedy, a businessman and the son of Robert F. Kennedy, and progressive state Sen. Daniel Biss. The contest between Rauner and Pritzker is expected to get ugly, as Rauner has already been spending money on TV ads attacking Pritzker, linking him to impeached and jailed former Gov. Rod Blagojevich. But in a Democratic state in a Democratic year and with an unpopular Republican governor who has lost faith on the right, this is Pritzker’s race to lose.)

— Court: State worker union to get automatic pay hikes (step increases) despite Rauner freeze (DIERSEN: I got many step increases while I worked for the federal government 1966-1969 and 1971-1997. Step increases recognize the work experience that you gain. What opinion does Rauner and his supporters have of the work experience that you have? Based on their words and their actions, Rauner and his supporters have an extremely low opinion of the work experience that I have.)

KITSAP SUN
— Kilmer bill helps federal workers who started in temporary role – Julianne Stanford (DIERSEN: I started working for the federal government as a part-time temporary employee in 1966. My Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates in the federal government were beyond furious when I got almost 3 years of full-time Civil Service credit when I paid the Civil Service Retirement System 7% of the salary (plus interest) that the Park Forest Post Office paid me while I was a part-time employee there 1966-1969.)
https://www.kitsapsun.com/story/news/local/2018/03/27/kilmer-bill-federal-retirement/447341002/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: But when he started to plan for retirement, he learned the years that he worked as a temporary employee didn’t count toward it because of a change in the federal system that went into effect the year he was hired at the shipyard. Under the new system, employees who transitioned into full-time positions could no longer retroactively contribute to their retirements for the time they worked as temporary employees, although they had been able to do so under the previous system. As a result, Hodge is now witnessing other employees retire who were hired at the shipyard as permanent employees after he started there. He must either work longer or retire early by the government’s standards with penalties to his benefits. “It’s hard to keep a good attitude, but as a manager I do it,” Hodge said. “We’re starting to see more people leave and it’s very frustrating.” After seeking out other avenues for assistance without result, Hodge and a few other shipyard workers sought help from U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer. After learning about the complexities of Hodge’s case, Kilmer said he saw an opportunity to right what he says is a wrong.)

GOVERNMENT EXECUTIVE
— Prospects Unclear for Trump’s $1 Billion Performance Fund – Erich Wagner (DIERSEN: Democrats run the federal government. Democrats use budget cuts to get rid of their employees who are Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran who Democrats did not promote to GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40.)
http://www.govexec.com/pay-benefits/2018/03/prospects-unclear-trumps-1-billion-performance-fund/147008/

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The omission of one White House management proposal from the $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill for fiscal 2018, approved by Congress and signed by President Trump last week, could serve as a bellwether for the administration’s plans to transform the federal workforce. The spending package includes a number of provisions that specifically prohibit agency leaders from enacting plans to downsize or reshape their organizations without consulting Congress. And totally absent from the more-than 2,000-page document was the White House’s proposed $1 billion inter-agency performance fund, which the White House wanted to enact this fiscal year. That fund would be used by agencies for designing programs like performance-based pay and to pay bonuses for individual high performers across government.)

DUPAGE POLICY JOURNAL
— Diana Rauner: We’re moving to Italy if Bruce loses
https://dupagepolicyjournal.com/stories/511364971-diana-rauner-we-re-moving-to-italy-if-bruce-loses
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Gov. Bruce Rauner says he’ll fight for Illinoisans. But only if he wins re-election. If he loses, Rauner’s wife, Diana, says she and Bruce are out of here. “Bruce and I are moving to Italy,” a source says she flippantly told a group of “mostly Democrat” women from DuPage County last Thursday. The occasion was an event at the home of Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico and his wife, Julie Cole Chirico, chief fundraiser for embattled, but Rauner-financed House GOP Leader Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs). Diana Rauner’s Italy remark was a response to a question she received about Illinois’ stunning rate of outmigration. An attendee noted that several of her neighbors had left the state, asking Diana Rauner what her husband planned to do to encourage people to stay. “She made a vague comment about stopping Madigan and then said that, if Bruce lost and they couldn’t stop Madigan, they were moving to Italy,” the source told DuPage Policy Journal. “It was awkward.” In addition to employing his wife, Durkin and his campaign chief, David Walsh, are a longtime backers of Mayor Chirico, a moderate Republican who supports Rauner but actively opposed President Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election. The Rauners have traveled to Italy on official business during his administration. In Nov. 2016, Gov. Rauner and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel traveled to Rome along with State Sen. John Cullerton (D-Chicago) Chicago Ald. Ed Burke (D-14th), former social secretary to President Barack Obama, Desiree Rogers and U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) to see then-Chicago Archbishop Blase Cupich be elevated to cardinal. At a co-press conference with Emanuel in Vatican City, Rauner said “this time reminds us that the good lord did not make us Republicans or Democrats.” Seven months later, Rauner would break his promise to Cardinal Cupich that he would not sign a bill that would force Illinois taxpayers to pay for abortions.)

https://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward-room/Candidates-in-Final-Push-Ahead-of-Illinois-Primary-477248143.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Rauner spent his Sunday campaigning downstate. Meantime his challenger, state senator Jeanne Ives, criticized the $75-million dollar Rauner campaign. “He thinks he can use his money to spread lies about me,” she said, “to put him back into office and that’s pathetic.”)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Trump a power player in Illinois 2018 primary – Lynn Sweet
https://chicago.suntimes.com/columnists/trump-a-power-player-in-illinois-2018-primary/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: President Donald Trump is a big player in Tuesday’s Illinois primary with Trump-fueled voting expected to boost 2018 turnout compared to 2010 and 2012, the most recent nonpresidential years. Who does that help the most? On the GOP side, it’s pro-Trump governor candidate Jeanne Ives, taking on Gov. Bruce Rauner, who has been running from Trump. As for Democrats, the Trump factor benefits most the contenders who are able to seize the support of angry, newly energized voters. In the bigger primary races, that would include governor hopeful state Sen. Daniel Biss; House contender Marie Newman and Cook County Assessor challenger Fritz Kaegi. Here’s what I’ve learned about the Illinois Trump factors based on interviews with strategists, and my analysis of TV ads, direct mail and other political communications: Democrats furious over Trump’s 2016 victory, who usually don’t vote in nonpresidential years, are in this time. Those voters — younger, people of color and women — are likely more progressive, strategists tell me. Far fewer Republicans vote in Illinois primaries, so a candidate with a committed, animated base — that would be Ives — has an advantage. Rauner is wobbly on Trump. He’s loath to associate with Trump for fear of alienating Democratic and crossover GOP voters he will need in November. That is, should he be renominated since pro-Trump Ives, a state representative from Wheaton, has mustered a strong challenge from the right. The Democratic Governor’s Association is trying to throw the primary to Ives because she will be easier to beat in November. The DGA is running an ad praising her for being in “lockstep” with Trump — a pitch, wicked as it is from Democrats, to appeal to Trump primary voters turned off by Rauner.)

In my opinion, GAO failed/refused to promote into its Senior Executive Service a GS-15 Jewish woman a) who was my immediate supervisor during my last 4 years at GAO and b) who supervised my immediate supervisor the previous 4 years because she failed/refused to do more to waste my career and to get rid of me. Most, if not virtually all of my GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates DID NOT want to work for her, work with her, or supervise her because she was female, younger, Jewish, very intelligent, very demanding, and wealthy. She had an MBA from the University of Chicago and had passed the CPA examination on her first attempt. To turn her against me, my Democrat GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates stressed to her a) that I was conservative (she was liberal), b) that I was Republican (she was Democrat), c) that I was 100% German national origin (she was 100% Russian national origin), d) that I was baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran (she was Jewish), and e) that my ancestors had been in America since the 1840s (her ancestors were recent immigrants.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Democrats and many Republicans in Illinois were horrified by the ad: a 60-second spot released by Gov. A deep-voiced man portraying a transgender woman tells Rauner, “Thank you for signing legislation that lets me use the girls bathroom.” Then a young woman thanks Rauner for “making all Illinois families pay for my abortions.” But equally shocking to the content was the person who had made the ad possible: Richard Uihlein, a little-known Republican donor who had until recently been one of Rauner’s biggest supporters. After a fallout out with the governor over abortion policy, Uihlien gave $2.5 million to Ives in a single week this past January — essentially bankrolling her campaign to defeat Rauner in a Republican primary on Tuesday.)

— Trump Made White House Staff Sign Non Disclosure Agreements in Futile Effort to Stop Leaks – Margaret Hartmann (DIERSEN: When you work for the federal government, you work for the federal government, NOT for your superiors or for your supervisors, and especially if those superiors and supervisors focus on getting rid of federal employees because they are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)
http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/03/trump-made-white-house-staff-sign-ndas-to-stop-leaks-report.html

(FROM THE ARTICLE: It’s well-known that nearly everyone in Donald Trump’s orbit has to sign a nondisclosure agreement, from business associates, to campaign employees, to women he may or may not have had an affair with. Therefore it is simultaneously galling and non-at-all surprising that Trump may have pressured senior White House staffers into signing NDAs, though they are members of the federal government, not his personal employees. Trump actually told the Washington Post in April 2016 that he intended to use NDAs in the White House, saying “when people are chosen by a man to go into government at high levels and then they leave government and they write a book about a man and say a lot of things that were really guarded and personal, I don’t like that.” He allowed that “there could be some kind of a law that you can’t do this,” and experts say he was on to something: ACLU: Public employees can’t be gagged by private agreements. These so-called NDAs are unconstitutional and unenforceable.)

In one of her worst-yet panders — quite a distinction if you remember Hillary’s 2007 speech in Selma, Alabama — she apparently noticed the darker pigmentation of her Indian audience and adapted. She started out by reiterating her disdain for those who failed to recognize her virtues, saying that she won in places “that are optimistic, diverse, dynamic, moving forward,” compared with Trump voters who are always looking “backward.” Then, mockingly, talking to “those people” who voted for him, she continued, “You know you didn’t like black people getting rights, you don’t like women, you know, getting jobs, you don’t want to, you know, see Indian-Americans succeeding more than you are.”)

SPRINGFIELD STATE JOURNAL REGISTER
— My predictions for Tuesday’s primary election – Bernard Schoenburg
http://www.sj-r.com/opinion/20180317/bernard-schoenburg-my-predictions-for-tuesdays-primary-election
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A year ago, it would have been hard to imagine a serious Republican challenge to first-term Gov. BRUCE RAUNER. But state Rep. JEANNE IVES of Wheaton is waging just that type of fight. A key reason Ives got into the race is that Rauner signed a bill he said he would veto — which in part expands taxpayer-paid abortions to Medicaid recipients. Rauner has said Ives is too far to the right to get elected in Illinois. Ives says Rauner lied about the abortion bill and is lying about her in ads that accuse her of being linked to House Speaker MICHAEL MADIGAN, D-Chicago. She also says Rauner doesn’t deserve another term after his first one. Ives got a lot of attention by running an ad, roundly criticized, that showed actors (including a man in a dress) seen by critics as stereotypical negative views of groups including transgender people. Some newspapers have cited that ad as divisive and the reason they can’t endorse Ives. It did get attention, but also gave people pause. I think Rauner gets the nomination — but Ives could well be close. And if she even overcomes him, it won’t be a shock. . .On the GOP side, Rauner backs Urbana attorney ERIKA HAROLD, and she beats DuPage County Board member GARY GRASSO.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: President Trump has gotten flack for not filling a significant number of political appointee positions in his first year. His answer to that is “You don’t need them.” He has cut positions across departments by eliminating people who probably don’t like the guy anyway. In his first six months, the federal employee count went down 10,700. It is not just what he cut, but likewise what he has not added. In their first six months, President Bush (the younger) added 36,000 and President Obama added 60,000. While 10,700 may be a small dent in the total number of federal workers (2.8 million), it is still headed in the right direction.)

If I had been a Democrat, a minority, a female, or a veteran, GAO would not have forced me to “start at the bottom” and suffer a $19,203/year pay cut in today’s dollars. To justify forcing me to “start at the bottom,” GAO dismissed the fact a) that GAO audits IRS, b) that much of what IRS Revenue Officers do is similar to what GAO Analysts do, c) that I had almost 9 years of experience working for IRS, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880, d) that I had earned an MBA from Loyola in 1976, e) that I had almost completed the requirements for a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul, and f) that I had passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979.)

Hiring declined by more than a third from 2016 to 2017, and the number of young people seeking to take the Foreign Service exam has dropped significantly from the rates seen during the previous two administrations. Attracting the right personnel will require Mr. Pompeo to work with Congress and take other steps to change obsolete rules that, for instance, discourage former State Department employees from returning, and require even experienced people to start at the bottom if they have not previously worked in government — denying our diplomatic corps the ability to draw on specialized expertise.)

CENTRAL ILLINOIS PROUD
— A referendum will be put on next week’s ballot questioning if voters think the elected office of the Peoria County Auditor should be eliminated. (DIERSEN: I passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979 and the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt in 1981. I became a licensed CPA in 1981, Certified Fraud Examiner in 1990, Certified Government Financial Manager in 1994, Certified Financial Services Auditor in 1996, and Forensic Accountant in 1997.)
http://www.centralillinoisproud.com/news/local-news/peoria-county-board-proposing-referendum-on-next-weeks-primary-election-ballot/1035295715
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Currently there are no professional requirements to the county’s auditor. If this referendum passes, the Auditor will be appointed for 5 years by the board. Additionally if appointed the candidate must hold a number of credentials including a bachelor’s degree, professional certification (CPA, CGAP or CIA) and be a Peoria county resident. “The county board has got a draft ordinance that they would move to adopt if the referendum is successful and that has requirements for a selection process which they would appoint similar to how they appoint the supervisor assessments,” said county administrator Scott Sorrel.)
