On June 25 Mr. Biden issued an order to “advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in the federal workforce.” Meaning every nook they can find in American life. A phrase like “diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility” is what’s known as a political narrative—a brief, repeatable description of political goals whose implicit message is: Who could be against this? It is not an overstatement to say the future of the world will rise and fall on whether these pablum-like narratives can be turned into hard policy. “Save the planet” was one of the most successful. Rising alongside is DEI (“accessibility” is a Bidenized addition). Set aside the D- and I-words. The battle of our time is over the E-word—equity. Unlike diversity and inclusion, both unmeasurable sentiments, equity is an economic concept. It posits that some have more economic wealth, and some have less. The “some” may be individuals or nations. Equity’s goal is to impose policies by fiat intended to close “disparities.” The power of the equity narrative is that it can be applied to anything, insofar as most of life can be divided between more and less. Such as the Covid-19 pandemic. According to multiple recent news stories, the distribution of Covid vaccines has become an equity issue. “After monopolizing initial production,” the Washington Post asserts, “rich nations have made only limited progress toward ensuring an equitable global distribution of vaccines.” It says both the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank are warning of a “two-track global recovery that would widen the economic divide between advanced and developing nations.” “Equity” is wealth redistribution, or soft socialism, repackaged as happy talk. (FROM THE ARTICLE: On the Fourth of July, I finally sought independence from the daily emails I receive from right-wing, ultraconservative organizations. One by one, I unsubscribed after months of this digital rhetoric crowding my email accounts. I initially subscribed to Conservative News, The DC Statesman and Patriot Central (to name a few) to keep me updated and informed about views from conservative or Republican-leaning sources. I feel this is important to find the needed balance to better understand complex issues that face America. Many mainstream media sources tend to lean left, so it was important to inform myself with right-leaning stories and opinions about presidential politics, controversial issues and international affairs. I’m interested in viewpoints that don’t embody or reflect my own, as long as they’re not based on lies, mistruths or propaganda. However, after more than a year of receiving daily (and sometimes hourly) emails from so many similar-minded sources, I had to end the madness. Not so much about the content of each email, but the barrage of emails from each source. A relentless, nonstop machine of rhetoric, half-truths and twisted interpretations. Everything is viewed from the narrow prism of conservatism, just as most everything is viewed from the narrow prism of liberalism from left-leaning media sources. I couldn’t take it any longer. I figured the Fourth of July was an ideal day to purge all of those email subscriptions, including from former President Donald Trump, a billionaire who’s been asking me for donations for five years now. Honestly, I don’t know how tens of millions of Americans can absorb such predictable, inflammatory political rhetoric day after day. What I find to be emotionally exhausting must be exhilarating or validating for them. Maybe it stokes feelings of anger or suspicion or bitterness that requires fresh shovelfuls of animosity every morning in their email inbox. It only dug a hole for me, and I’m finally climbing out. No wonder our country is so divided and so cynical about anyone who thinks differently than them. I blame both radical sides, each unwilling to look for a common ground of understanding in the quicksand of political power. Each camp is convinced they’re on the right side of history — never the wrong side — regarding the polarizing issues of this era. On the Fourth, I thought about all of this while deleting more than 200 accumulated emails. It was a cathartic hour for me.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: An essay from the Black Agenda Report posted just this week is entitled, “Freedom Rider: The Terrible Origins of July 4th.” And in it, the writer, Margaret Kimberley, speaks of how American exceptionalism was actually born of a white settler determination to seize native lands and expand slavery — which means, of course, that the whole concept of American exceptionalism is therefore, in this writer’s eyes, a dud. That tells you all you need to know about the divide in this country right now. On one side are those who know America as a spirit of freedom, as a gold standard of individualism and entrepreneurism, as a promise of opportunity, as a clarion call for liberty-lovers everywhere to join forces to advance the best of what humanity has to offer. Skin color be danged. Financial circumstances be danged. Familial ties be danged. On the other? On the other — this: “The July 4 holiday in the United States commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Anyone educated in this country has been propagandized with lies about patriotic colonists seeking freedom from a tyrannical British monarch. Our minds were filled with tales of Paul Revere and Betsy Ross which erase the role that indigenous and Black people played as they attempted to end true tyranny over their lives. … The men who every school child is taught to think of as ‘patriots’ had two concerns which pushed them to declare independence,” as Kimberley wrote. What were they? The quest for land and slaves, she wrote. “The crown and the colonists were both determined to seize lands from native peoples and to continue enslavement,” Kimberley went on. “But their interests were also hostile to one another and war was the inevitable result. White settlers wanted full independence for themselves and no control over their actions at all.” Thus, the Declaration of Independence was born. Thus, White colonists warred against the king of England. Thus, America’s roots are steeped, soaked and saturated in hate for Blacks, in racism against non-Whites. Seriously? Seriously, Kimberley argued. But like most things coming from the lips of leftists, such rhetoric skews wildly to show truths as desired or as politically expedient, rather than as truthful. To believe colonists and founders wanted to break from the crown simply to grow slave and land holdings dismisses the pursuit of religious liberty that served as the key foundation of America’s beginnings. It dismisses the historical recordings of founders who fought against slavery, who wanted to abolish slavery — including Thomas Jefferson the, yes, slaveowner who nonetheless argued to ban slavery in the Northwest Territories. It dismisses the very uncomfortable fact of slavery knowing no skin color, knowing no race — meaning, even blacks enslave blacks. Both then and now. The Bible’s filled with stories of slaveowners and the enslaved, don’t you know? But most of all, it denies the unity that should be the natural outcome of a “melting pot” nation such as ours, and instead, demands a divide and conquer mentality among the citizenry. Either you’re with us, or you’re racist! — is the prevailing attitude of these critical race theory types. It’s angering. It’s also sad. Those who see the world through the lens of race, those who see America as a place of systemic racism, deserve to be pitied because they’re actually giving up their chance for a life of blessed, God-given opportunity to instead sow seeds of hate, discord and division. They’re missing out; they’re squandering their lives. But they deserve to be silenced, as well, because they’re not just sacrificing their own opportunities to achieve and their own chances to succeed. They’re coming after the children, the corporations, the country’s political leaders and demanding all sacrifice similarly. And that’s just evil. America is exceptional because America has a spirit of liberty that cannot be constrained or contained. It’s unfortunate some want to split that spirit by color, by creed, by race. For those with eyes to see and ears to hear, the Fourth of July reminds us: Freedom is not free — freedom may never be free. But it sure is sweet and worth every bit of fight. God bless America; God bless Americans. God save America from the wickedness of historical revisionists.)

On Friday, President Joe Biden ordered all federal agencies to ramp up workplace training on “systemic and institutional racism” and “implicit and unconscious bias.” Those are buzzwords for critical race theory, which holds that all whites are biased against people of color, even if unconsciously. Under this theory, throughout American history and continuing now, whites oppress Blacks and need to acknowledge their guilt. Assume you work in an office with people of several races and, until now, you worked pretty smoothly as a team. Then you and your co-workers undergo mandated critical race theory training. Whites will be ridiculed as racists, and if they try to deny that, they’ll be told their denials are proof of their unconscious bias and “white fragility.” Black employees will understandably question if they can even trust their white co-workers and if they all have the same goals. Critical race theory is a disaster for workplace morale. Expect an avalanche of lawsuits challenging Biden’s efforts to saturate the federal workplace with this divisive doctrine. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 — still the law of the land, Mr. President — bars employers from allowing a toxic work environment. (FROM THE ARTICLE: A drama teacher in Illinois is fighting back against what her attorneys say is highly racial content that stereotypes White people and violates the U.S. Constitution. Filed in federal court Tuesday, the lawsuit represents one of the primary lines of attack from activists seeking to combat the influence of critical race theory (CRT) in schools. The Southeastearn Legal Foundation, which is representing teacher Stacy Deemar, is working as part of Chris Rufo’s legal coalition that ultimately seeks to strike down CRT-related curricula at the Supreme Court. For months, Rufo and others have brought numerous school materials to public attention, often inspiring shock on social media. Tuesday’s case seemed to spotlight one of the bolder instances of so-called “anti-racist” education, which critics have described as “Neo-racism.” The lawsuit indicates, among other things, that the district stereotyped and divided teachers according to their race. For example, the district purportedly directed teachers to participate in racially segregated “affinity groups,” which were the subject of a federal civil rights complaint. Although former President Trump’s administration ruled that the district’s use of those groups was discriminatory, the Biden administration suspended that decision shortly after the president’s inauguration. The Evanston-Skokie district (District 65) previously caught attention for a school reopening policy that seemed to favor racial minorities over White students. Superintendent Devon Horton, who is listed along with his deputy as a defendant in Tuesday’s suit, received a wave of backlash for that proposal – prompting the school board to suggest White supremacy was at work. “When you challenge policies and protocols established to ensure an equitable experience for Black and brown students,” the board reportedly said in an open letter, “you are part of a continuum of resistance to equity and desire to maintain white supremacy.” According to the lawsuit, teachers were also instructed to read students the book “Not my Idea,” in which a devil approaches the main character with a “Contract Binding you to Whiteness.” Fox News previously reported on this book when it appeared as a referenced material at a Manhattan private school for young children. The imaginary terms offer “stolen land,” “stolen riches,” and “special favors.” It adds that “WHITENESS gets” “your soul” and “to mess endlessly with the lives of your friends, neighbors, loved ones, and all fellow humans of COLOR.” The end contains a section for signature and notes “[l]and, riches, and favors may be revoked at any time, for any reason.” Tuesday’s filing alleges District 65 instructed Pre-K through second grade teachers to ask students: “What is your understanding of whiteness?” Meanwhile, fourth grade teachers were instructed to ask how Whiteness showed up in a political cartoon. Fifth grade teachers, however, were instructed to preface the book with a statement about White people “play[ing] a big role in the problems of racism today and throughout world history.” Both this exercise and teacher trainings, the suit alleges, similarly associated Whiteness with negative attributes and disparaged colorblindness – a common feature of critical race theory. “Pretending not to see color is called color blindness,” teachers were allegedly told to say. “Color blindness helps racism. . . . Many White people use color blindness to ignore the problem of racism.” Defenders of so-called “anti-racism” or “culturally responsive training” generally argue that the practices help foster understanding and break down systemic biases. On its website, District 65 touts its racial and educational equity policy as a way to do just that. “There are persistent and unacceptable opportunity and achievement gaps for students of color in District 65,” it reads. “The racial predictability of achievement and disciplinary outcomes is attributable to institutional racism, cultural biases and other societal factors. The district recognizes that in order to provide educational opportunities that result in equitable outcomes particularly for Black/Brown students, that it must proactively acknowledge and intentionally address racial and cultural biases, in an effort to eliminate institutional structures and practices that affect student learning and achievement.” “The purpose of this policy is to establish a framework for the elimination of bias, particularly racism and cultural bias, as factors affecting student achievement and learning experiences, and to promote learning and working environments that welcome, respect and value diversity. Further, the purpose is to establish particular actions that District 65 shall take to disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline, to address disparities in educational opportunity and achievement while understanding the urgency with which we must move to support Black, Latinx and multi-racial students. District 65 is committed to focusing on race as one of the first visible indicators of identity while recognizing that the district’s students hold multiple, intersecting identities such as mental or physical ability, sexual orientation including gender identity and/or expression, religion, economic status, national origin and any other personal characteristics.” But critics say these types of materials are a form of indoctrination that violate federal law and the Constitution. Deemar is specifically accusing the district of violating the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause and Title VI, which prohibits discrimination at federally-funded educational institutions. Her attorney, Southeastern Legal Foundation General Counsel Kimberly Hermann, told Fox News that Deemar was only seeking $1.00 in damages with a focus on obtaining both a declaratory judgement and injunction. “By vowing to define its teachers and students solely by their race, District 65 promotes and reinforces a view of race essentialism that divides Americans into groups based solely on their skin color,” said Hermann. “District 65 teaches its teachers and students that their whole identity comes from the color of their skin. It teaches them to hate each other. It teaches them not only how to be racist, but that they should be racist. This is illegal, wrong, and must be stopped.” Besides Deemar’s lawsuit, others have emerged as apparent legal threats to the these types of trainings. For example, a mixed-race student in Nevada sued his charter school after he was allegedly instructed to delineate which parts of his identity were oppressive. More recently, parents in Loudoun County, Virginia brought a federal lawsuit claiming that the district’s equity ambassadorship program discriminated against White students. Districts across the country have seen similar allegations, with complaints that programs which are focused on “equity” scapegoat White people. Critics like Rufo argue that instead of “equity,” public institutions should focus on “equality” or ensuring the same opportunities among different racial and ethnic groups. This flies in the face, however, of critical race theory, which was formed partly in response to the perceived inadequacies of the civil rights movement. As Tuesday’s lawsuit notes, District 65 explicitly endorses “equity,” which it says “goes beyond the definition of equality – where students are treated the same – to fostering a barrier free environment where all students’ unique needs are addressed and supported by resources which are allocated in a fiscally responsible manner.” The focus on equal outcomes rather than opportunities was purportedly illustrated during “privilege walks,” which asked participants to evaluate their social advantages according to skin color. After scoring certain statements – e.g. “because of my race or color, I can speak in public to a powerful male group without putting my race on trial” – district staff were told to separate themselves with higher scores on the left and lower on the right. They further separate themselves based on additional prompts. “Near the end of the exercise, the facilitator asks all white people standing in line to step forward,” the lawsuit reads.)
