CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
— Where can you afford to buy a house? – DENNIS RODKIN  (DIERSEN: Where could you afford to buy a house?  My critics/opponents are filled with envy.  They are furious that I could afford to a) buy a new town home in University Park when I was 24 years old, b) buy a studio condo in the Outer Drive East building in downtown Chicago when I was 25, and c) buy a one bedroom condo in that building when I was 27. My critics/opponents are furious that my wife and I could afford to a) buy 1017 East Harrison in Wheaton when I was 29 and b) have 915 Cove Court built in Wheaton when I was 35. My critics/opponents hint/imply/argue/shout that I was only able to do that a) because I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth and I have always been privileged, b) because I avoided the draft, c) because IRS and GAO overpaid me, and d) because my wife and I gave up trying to have children, we did not adopt, and we did not become foster parents.)

— As Loop population booms, South Side plummets – GREG HINZ  (DIERSEN: Have you lived in downtown Chicago?  I lived in studio condo in the Outer Drive East building weekdays 1974-1976 and then in a one bedroom condo in that building full-time 1976-1978. I did that while I worked for IRS in its Loop office, took graduate business courses at Loyola, and then took graduate accounting courses at DePaul.)

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/realestate/20161213/CRED0701/161219982/nows-your-chance-at-a-deal-on-that-move-up-home
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Oak Brook is one of five affluent Chicago suburbs with enough homes on the market to supply at least 10 months of sales, according to a recent report from Midwest Real Estate Data. The others are Lake Forest, Riverwoods, Kenilworth and Inverness. The rule of thumb is that six months of inventory is a healthy, balanced market. While Palos Park’s home prices aren’t generally at the level of Oak Brook, Lake Forest and the other affluent places on the list, it proves the rule in its own way: Relative to all its surrounding towns, Palos Park has a much higher median home price, $267,000, and it also has the biggest backlog of inventory, 10.2 months.)

A look at recently released Census data breaks down educational attainment by neighborhood, including residents without high school degrees, those who have bachelor’s degrees and those who have more education beyond that.)

http://www.centralillinoisproud.com/news/clintons-former-cia-chief-defends-trump-on-intel-briefings/618658913
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Former CIA Director James Woolsey defended President-elect Donald Trump Monday night amid criticism that he reportedly skips intelligence briefings. “I’m available on one minute’s notice. I don’t have to be told — you know, I’m like a smart person. I don’t have to be told the same thing and the same words every single day for the next eight years. Could be eight years — but eight years. I don’t need that,” Trump said in an interview on “Fox News Sunday” regarding the briefings. Woolsey, who led the CIA under President Bill Clinton but is now an adviser to Trump, told CNN’s Erin Burnett that “different presidents do this different ways.” “I didn’t sit there and brief President Clinton. He wanted to read the briefings. He’s a speed reader and he’d write notes to me in the margins sometimes,” he told Burnett. “I don’t think it means you are not participating in the effort or not doing your job if you don’t sit there and have someone read to you. Most of us can read with our eyes faster than we can listen.”)
