CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— RNC chair comes to Chicago
https://www.chicagotribune.com/politics/ct-met-lightfoot-pension-emanuel-dealmaking-rnc-20190509-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Ronna McDaniel, head of the Republican National Committee, will be in Chicago June 6 for a fundraising luncheon, according to an invitation sent out by the Illinois Republican Party and obtained by the Tribune. Ticket prices for the state party fundraiser range from $150 to a $5,000 sponsorship. The event is being hosted by Cubs co-owner and RNC Finance Chair Todd Ricketts, Demetra DeMonte, an RNC National Committeewoman, Richard Porter, an RNC Committeeman and Tim Schneider, chair of the state Republican party. Honorary co-chairs include: Illinois House Republican Leader Jim Durkin, Illinois Senate Republican Leader Bill Brady and members of Illinois’ Republican Congressional delegation including U.S. Rep. Mike Bost, Murphysboro, U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis, of Taylorsville, U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger, of Channahon, U.S. Rep. Darin Lahood, of Peoria, and U.S. Rep. John Shimkus, of Collinsville. In Illinois, the GOP has its work cut out for it after the mid-terms saw a blue wave sweep Democrats into suburban and exurban Republican strongholds. Local congressional races offer a closer look: Democrats Lauren Underwood of Naperville unseated GOP incumbent U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren while Sean Casten, of Downers Grove, beat longtime congressman Peter Roskam.)

— White House imposes new rules on reporters’ credentials, raising concerns about access – Paul Farhi (DIERSEN: I should write a book about the times since 2000 when my GOPUSA credentials have constructively or literally revoked by activists, candidates, elected officials, and party leaders who claim to be religious, conservative, and/or Republican.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The White House hasn’t spelled out how it will make these decisions, raising concerns about arbitrary or selective decisions. (The Washington Post’s seven White House reporters have all been granted exemptions). The White House last year revoked the hard pass of CNN reporter Jim Acosta after Acosta engaged in a heated exchange with Trump during a White House news briefing. After a brief legal fight, a federal court ordered the White House to restore Acosta’s access. The court said Acosta’s due-process rights had been violated because the White House had never established rules and procedures for revoking a credential. But Sanders said the new policy was unrelated to Acosta’s case. Acosta continues to hold a hard pass. In an opinion piece published Wednesday, Post columnist Dana Milbank wrote that he was denied a hard pass, although the paper’s reporters who cover the White House were all granted exemptions. “The White House press office granted exceptions to the [others], but not to me,” he wrote. “I strongly suspect it’s because I’m a Trump critic. The move is perfectly in line with Trump’s banning of certain news organizations, including The Post, from his campaign events, and his threats to revoke White House credentials of journalists he doesn’t like.” The White House Correspondents’ Association, which represents journalists on access issues, was consulted about the new policy, according to Sanders. The organization’s president, Olivier Knox, declined to comment.)
