ILLINOIS OPPORTUNITY PROJECT
— Forget About Pritzker. This Is About You.
https://www.illinoisopportunity.org/forget-about-pritzker-this-is-about-you/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Within the next 5-10 years, whether these two men are still in power or not, the retirement you’ve spent the majority of your adult life working for, will be taxed by the state. The property taxes that you can barely afford right now will continue to rise. Your children will find better opportunities elsewhere once small businesses and large employers move to states with better business climates. Before you know it, the town that you grew up in, started a family in, and helped grow will be no more. Just look at the city of Peoria. Once the home to Caterpillar, the IHSA Basketball State Finals, and many other businesses and cultural events, is now empty. More people have left Illinois in the past ten years than remain in Peoria. The current state of affairs in Illinois is already bad, and the passage of the Tax Hike Amendment could completely put the state out of business. The Tax Hike Amendment would make businesses pay the 2nd highest tax rate in the nation. Between COVID and the already high taxes, it just simply won’t play. The latest September jobs report put Illinois in the bottom five states gaining jobs back. Jobs are leaving and they aren’t coming back. The stakes on the ballot this November are bigger than these two men, this is about you and the future of your family in Illinois.)

GOPUSA
— The Disunited States Of Oppression – Michelle Malkin
https://www.gopusa.com/?p=96613
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Is there any clearer sign of how privileged a society is than the disproportionate amount of time that society spends guilting citizens over how privileged they are? I’ll never forget the first time I encountered “critical race theory” and its overbearing adherents at my alma mater, Oberlin College, in the 1990s. Multicultural studies were all the rage. Higher education officials had torpedoed Western civilization curriculum requirements at prestigious universities nationwide. The ululations of the aggrieved reached a fever pitch as anti-white extremists demanded separate academic departments, dorms, graduation ceremonies and deans in the name of justice and equality. The entire spectacle was as self-indulgent as it was comical. Spoiled white limousine liberals’ children lectured me — a child of Filipino immigrants who came from a Third World country colonized by the Spanish, overtaken by Americans and occupied by the Japanese — for thinking and acting “white” because I opposed race-based affirmative action policies. A miserable feminist student castigated me for using the patriarchal term “exploit” (as in “exploiting an opportunity.”) Wealthy minority progressives — cloistered in their intolerant “safe spaces” on a campus full of entitled brats whose parents forked over $40,000 a year in tuition — whined about being systemically oppressed. The whiners whined all their way through their senior theses to secure their worthless degrees. A large portion of the whiners went on to graduate schools in advanced griping and grousing — and are now ensconced in the ivory tower of critical race theory babble, subsidized by tax dollars at public colleges and universities, venting from on high about how hopelessly downtrodden they are at the hands of the oppressors paying their cushy salaries. This toxic resentment has metastasized in academia and spread to the bowels of the federal bureaucracy.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Protests to abolish university police continued Monday evening at Northwestern University and areas near the campus in north suburban Evanston. Over the weekend, protestors demanded the removal of the Northwestern University Police Department. President and Professor Morton Schapiro responded to the community Monday afternoon in an email, stating that it would not abolish NUPD. “We, as a University, recognize the many injustices faced by Black and other marginalized groups. We also acknowledge that the policing and criminal justice system in our country is too often stacked against those same communities. Your concerns are valid and necessary, and we encourage and, in fact, rely on your active engagement with us to make your school and our society equitable and safe for everyone. That said, while the University has every intention to continue improving NUPD, we have absolutely no intention to abolish it,” Schapiro wrote.)

— DISGUSTING, TRAGIC, UNACCEPTABLE MAINSTREAM NEWS MEDIA COVER-UP: Northwestern Students Burn and Vandalize School Property at Anti-Police Protests – Chrissy Clark (DIERSEN: How soon will the Democrats vandalize, loot, riot, and burn down your municipality? https://freebeacon.com/campus/northwestern-students-burn-and-vandalize-school-property-at-anti-police-protests/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Students at Northwestern University vandalized and burned school property on the sixth consecutive night of anti-police protests. Led by the anti-police group “NU Community Not Cops,” students tore down a sign that read “We’re N This Together,” burned it, and placed the charred remains of the sign at the feet of police officers guarding the home of Northwestern president Morton Schapiro. They also vandalized the school’s iconic Weber Arch, during a protest purportedly aimed at abolishing the campus police department. Pictures taken by NU Community Not Cops document the destruction, which according to Northwestern’s student newspaper began at 11:51 p.m. on Saturday. Outside of the Northwestern University police department, students wrote “abolition is the solution” and “Black Lives Matter.” Written on a university sign were the letters “ACAB,” which stands for All Cops Are Bastards. Other graffiti included the words “F— UCPD,” in reference to the nearby University of Chicago police department. Following the death of George Floyd, Schapiro penned a letter to the Northwestern student body in which he committed to “reviewing the operations of Northwestern’s police department.” “We will reexamine all of NUPD’s approaches and function, including its use of force policy … its bias-free policing policy,” and “reinforce annual training on de-escalation,” Schapiro said. But students around the country have gone further, protesting the very existence of campus police departments. At the University of Pennsylvania, students and professors called on the school to disarm police officers and eliminate the university’s crime alert system. Johns Hopkins University announced it would delay the development of a campus police department for at least two years in the wake of student protests. And when the University of Chicago refused to defund its police department, students vowed to protest the decision for at least a year. Likewise, the Northwestern vandals claimed their actions were a proportionate response to “racial capitalism,” in which police supposedly play a central role. “If you think vandalism is counterproductive to our mission. Under a system of racial capitalism, in which whiteness itself is capital,” NU Community Not Cops tweeted. “We are taking a stance against that by not valuing property over the lives of our people. Our campaign has not caused any harm. Police have.”)

https://www.detroitnews.com/story/opinion/2020/10/20/opinion-religious-bigotry-display-barrett-hearings/3711942001/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: And yet around the world religious minorities and those whose views don’t conform to prevailing orthodoxies face double standards when getting an education and applying for work. These double standards don’t appear overnight, however. Attacks on religious freedom progress in four distinct stages: Social marginalization, Economic discrimination, Legal (including criminal penalties), Violence, either by vigilantes or the state . . . Still, in recent years, the U.S. has seen the rapid spread of intolerance towards those who hold traditional religious beliefs, especially on life, sexual orientation and gender identity. While the U.S. still has robust legal prohibitions on religious discrimination, it has moved rapidly from the first stage of attack (social marginalization) to economic discrimination. Not only is there widespread censorship of socially conservative viewpoints on social media, there is virulent hostility in education. According to one conservative student quoted in an opinion piece for The Hill, teachers ”seek to silence us, to punish us, which deliberately lowers our GPA, which adversely affects the chances of us getting into college and, therefore, a better job and a better life.”)

INSIDE HIGHER EDUCATION
— Christian College Faculty Aren’t Lining Up for Trump Reflecting new polling that indicates college-educated white evangelicals are moving away from supporting Trump, many on Christian campuses are struggling to back him. – Kery Murakami (DIERSEN: The Democrat Party platform is extremely anti-Christian. If you vote for Democrats, you shout that you are anti-Christian.)
https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2020/10/16/christian-professors-try-reconcile-abortion-views-disdain-trump
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Wheaton College — a Christian college in Illinois, which is described as sort as the Harvard of evangelical colleges — appears to be a place where Barrett’s nomination should be causing many to embrace Trump. The university requires students and faculty each year to reaffirm a statement of faith, based on a biblical doctrine consonant with evangelical Christianity. Students and faculty are also expected to affirm that they agree with a community covenant, which, among other things, condemns “the taking of innocent life.” David Iglesias, an associate professor of politics and law at Wheaton and director of the college’s Center for Faith, Politics and Economics, was clearly struggling whether his faith would allow him to vote for Trump. “In my faith, everything is subservient to Scripture,” he said and brought up the biblical account of David’s adultery with Queen Bathsheba. “The prophet did not give him a pass,” he said. “The Scripture is pretty clear that when our leaders do the wrong thing, we shouldn’t excuse them. Character counts. What you do matters.” And, he said, “we know our Scripture here.” Just in the past few months, he said, Trump has “failed to criticize the Proud Boys. What did he say? ‘Stand by’?” “His behavior during the debate — he wouldn’t let Joe Biden speak. I’ve never seen a worse debate. It was pathetic. He’s said disparaging things about Muslim Americans,” Iglesias said. “And there’s his recent treatment of veterans,” he said referring to a report in The Atlantic in September that Trump privately referred to service members killed in combat as “suckers” and “losers.” (Trump denied insulting veterans.) Iglesias served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years. On Christian campuses, “there’s going to be some soul searching in supporting someone you disagree with on 90 percent of the issues,” he said. “But who agrees with you on the one you that you hold dear, and that’s right to life.”)

POLITICO ILLINOIS
— Illinois means little to President Donald Trump by way of electoral votes, but the state still has some eager Republican donors. Donald Trump Jr. and his girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle, the Trump campaign’s national finance chair, made a stop at Bull Valley Golf Club in Woodstock, Tuesday afternoon. The club is about 60 miles northwest of Chicago and has been a go-to spot for Republican fundraisers. Entry to this exclusive fundraiser was pricey, ranging from a $1,000 ticket for a single, no-frills ticket to $100,000 per couple for co-chair status (and lots of access), plus some price points in between. The event was hosted by Gary Rabine, owner of a Schaumburg-based paving and concrete company. Trump and Guilfoyle then headed to downtown Chicago for another schmoozy gathering with Trump Finance Chair and Cubs co-owner Todd Ricketts and philanthropist and political fundraiser Eleni Bousis (she and her husband, grocery chain owner Jim Bousis, were big supporters of former Gov. Bruce Rauner). Others rubbing elbows with Trump Jr.: Illinois Republican Committeeman Richard Porter, former Blackhawks player Jeremy Roenick, and Eloise Gerson, president of the 42nd Ward Republican Organization. Adding it all up: The Trump surrogate swing through Illinois was pulled together in just a few days and raised about $450,000. – Shia Kapos

It simply would give plaintiffs a chance to raise their claims in the first place. Plaintiffs still must prove the merits of their cases, and some claims will undoubtedly fail. Moreover, States and the Federal Government are free to update their liability laws to make them more appropriate for an Internet-driven society,” Thomas wrote.)

Government is nasty. Politics is nasty. I should write a book about those who have used the following against me the most: a) my being 100% German national origin, b) my being baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran, and c) my living in Crete 1948-1972. I would focus on those who would not have taken adverse actions against me if I had shared their national origin and/or religion.)
https://theconversation.com/will-german-americans-again-put-donald-trump-over-the-top-in-the-presidential-election-146283

(FROM THE ARTICLE: German Americans paved Donald Trump’s road into the White House in 2016 through Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. This ethnic group barely receives attention in American media and politics. The Midwest, home to many German Americans, is a battleground for the 2020 presidential election. Will this inconspicuous group yet again cast the deciding votes in the upcoming election? The German American experience Forty-four million Americans claim German ancestry. They constitute a large white heritage group in the United States, and the largest by far in the Midwest. Between 1850 and 1890, Germans arrived in the millions to settle in the U.S. German American farmers and workers transformed the frontier wilderness into farmland and fueled the Midwestern region’s industrialization with manpower and entrepreneurial spirit. Politically, they were never a unified voting bloc. Many were freethinkers, fighting against slavery and for women’s suffrage. They founded newspapers and led labor movements. Others were leading Evangelicals, forming the Missouri Synod, one of the most conservative religious bodies of the country. For decades, political parties vied for the vote of this heterogeneous immigrant group. Things changed in the wake of two world wars. To avoid stigmatization, German Americans stopped speaking German, anglicized their German names and became outwardly more American than any other European immigrant group. As a result, most contemporary German Americans have lost an authentic connection to their cultural heritage. Unlike other ethnic groups, they do not collectively link their identity to political action. Yet, despite this low level of community organization and activism, German Americans show common voting patterns. ‘Ghost pain of the past’ Today’s German Americans are more conservative than their ancestors. Most counties of heavy German American heritage are rural and vote Republican. We conducted a post-election analysis of this group’s behavior in the 2016 election. After we looked at occupational distributions, we suggested in 2016 that the steady economic decline in agriculture and domestic manufacturing in the Midwest made German Americans receptive to populist messages with racist overtones, a view implied by other political scientists and sociologists. A new, empirical study suggests that German Americans’ support of Trump in 2016 was not a simple outcome of party affiliation and not primarily an articulation of racism. Rather, German Americans were enticed by Trump’s isolationist agenda, an ideological preference their communities had developed long before 2016. In fact, presidential candidates with policies of protectionism and anti-interventionism have consistently benefited from the German American vote. For example, in the 1992 race, third-party candidate Ross Perot opposed NAFTA and the first Gulf War. He shared many views on trade and foreign policy with Donald Trump and performed better among German Americans than among any other descendants of 19th-century immigrants. Interestingly, the tendency to support anti-interventionist presidential candidates even extended to Democrat Barack Obama. More successful than any Democrat in presidential elections in decades among German American voters, Obama put forth a prospective foreign policy agenda that contrasted sharply with that of John McCain, who stood for the continuation of George W. Bush’s unpopular wars in the Middle East. German American support for America’s first African American president reached close to 60% in many counties of America’s heartland, making it very unlikely that racism was the primary force behind the swing toward Trump in 2016 in these counties. Rather, this phenomenon shows a consistent attraction to isolationist candidates in these communities rooted in the first half of the 20th century. That’s when German Americans vehemently opposed U.S. military intervention in Europe while being forced to rapidly assimilate. But can past traumas influence voting behavior 80 years later? Research on the persistence of historical legacies such as the voting behavior in former slaveholding counties in the South shows that political attitudes indeed can be passed down over generations even while the experiential link to their origin is lost. It appears that German American attraction to isolationism is a ghost pain of the past. What will happen in November? Trump has been an isolationist president. He abolished NAFTA, withdrew from the Paris Agreement on climate change, pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal, started trade wars, snubbed military leaders and announced troop withdrawals from NATO allies. These decisions will increase his popularity among many voters who favor isolationist candidates, including German Americans. Nevertheless, we believe that Trump’s campaign faces a problem in attracting a similarly large number of German Americans voters this November. Expectations that isolationist policies would lead to greater prosperity in the Midwest were disappointed. Moreover, throughout Trump’s presidency, his record as an isolationist was overshadowed by his image as a racist. We believe that many of those German American swing voters, who voted for a noninterventionist Obama in 2008 and then were attracted by Trump’s isolationist agenda in 2016, are alienated by his incendiary response to police killings and the Black Lives Matter protests. A central tenet of isolationism is a strong desire to stay out of trouble through noninvolvement. This applies all the more at home. A growing understanding that the president’s actions did not deescalate but instead amplified violence and chaos on American streets will likely keep many German Americans from voting for Trump a second time.)

— Navigating Politics in the Workplace During the Election Season
https://www.lexology.com/library/detail.aspx?g=97f3cf73-8b88-4164-bf29-a43deaca47cc

(FROM THE ARTICLE: More often than not, these laws protect workers from adverse actions because of their political activities outside instead of inside the workplace. For example, with limited exceptions, Colorado law prohibits employers from firing someone because of their lawful off-duty activities, including engaging in political speech, and it also prohibits employers from making any rule prohibiting employees from engaging or participating in politics or running for office. New York law protects employees engaging in certain “political activities” outside the workplace during off hours, but it contains an exception where the employee’s activities would create a “material conflict of interest related to the employer’s trade secrets, proprietary information or other proprietary or business interest.” And Connecticut law prohibits employers from taking adverse action against employees who speak about matters of public concern unless that speech substantially interferes with an employee’s job or working relationship with the employer.)

https://www.politico.com/newsletters/illinois-playbook/2020/10/06/bidens-illinois-trumps-staged-return-cannabis-dispensary-lawsuit-490533
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois Democrats are licking their chops at a blowout Nov. 3. Some folks even wonder if Joe Biden will break a record in Illinois for votes cast for a president. Maybe. President Donald Trump is expected to make a strong showing downstate. According to the latest FiveThirtyEight data, Biden is up 17 points up in Illinois — 55.6 percent, to Trump’s 38.6 percent. If that holds, it still wouldn’t beat the margin in the 2008 presidential election, when Barack Obama won 61.9 percent of the Illinois vote against John McCain. In 2012, Obama took 57.6 percent of the vote to Mitt Romney’s 40.7. And neither Obama, nor Hillary Clinton, who also counts Illinois as home, could beat the record set by Warren G. Harding in 1920. He captured 67.8 percent of the vote in Illinois. Clinton, btw, won Illinois with 55.2 percent of the vote four years ago. “Biden should triumph here and they’ll probably call the election immediately after polls close in Illinois,” Christopher Mooney, professor of state politics at University of Illinois at Chicago, told Playbook. “That’s under normal circumstances. Given there are more mail-in ballots this year, that may not be the case.” The bigger race to watch, adds Mooney, is the graduated income tax ballot measure. Both sides say their polling shows they have an edge, which suggests it’s going to be close. And that means it may not be decided on election night. Voters in Illinois aren’t used to waiting for results, Mooney said. But given how gummed up Washington is over stimulus aid for states, Illinoisans have plenty at stake.)
