CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Trump put stop to aides’ bid to research his personal past – Michael Sneed  (DIERSEN: Of course, obviously, needless-to-say, as everyone knows, that if you run as a Christian, as a conservative, and/or as a Republican, sooner or later, Democrats will take anything in your “personal past” that they can spin as being is being anti-Christian, anti-conservative, and/or anti-Republican and splash it all over their television stations, their newspapers, their radio stations, their websites, their etc. to paint you as being a Christian hypocrite, a conservative hypocrite, as a Republican hypocrite, and/or as an etc.-hypocrite.  What do you say to those who paint me as being a Christian hypocrite because I put GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together on Sunday mornings instead of attending Christian church services?)
http://chicago.suntimes.com/politics/sneed-trump-put-stop-to-aides-bid-to-research-his-personal-past/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: It’s true. It’s so Donald. It’s totally shocking. In the wake of a report Donald Trump rebuffed attempts by top political aides to research his personal past, Sneed is told Trump personally told them he had “no appetite for a deep dive” into his personal life. “We knew he had this playboy image, but we thought much of his behavior had been covered in the New York tabloid papers due to his divorces from Ivana and Marla Maples,” said a top Trump source familiar with the inner workings of the early stages of the Trump campaign, who requested anonymity. “Besides, it was the beginning of the campaign and we thought for the primary at least we had enough information. Who knew we’d get this far,” said the source, who verified that Trump’s top campaign brass in the early part of his campaign requested a typical vetting examination for people seeking office. “He [Trump] was not interested in such a background evaluation. We were much more focused on his past and present stances on health care and abortion,” added the source. Now fighting a groundswell of female complaints of past Trump behavior and sexual assault, the free media Trump relied on in the past is now working against him. It’s his female critics who have now seized the free TV podium.)
— In hacked WikiLeaks email, Clinton urged to cut off Rahm Emanuel – Lynn Sweet  (DIERSEN: Who urges others to cut you off?  The following urge others to cut me off: those who a) reject planks in the Republican Party platform and work against those like me who support those planks, b) reject planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform and work against those like me who support those planks, c) reject the Milton Township Republican Central Committee resolution against video gambling and work against those like me who support that resolution, d) focus on destroying those like me who they cannot manipulate/dominate, e) were defendants in lawsuits that I have filed, f) are operatives for the aforesaid, and/or g) are dupes for the aforesaid and those who are anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors.)

http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20161014/news/161019153/
— Foster, Khouri debate government’s role in education – Jessica Cilella  (DIERSEN: Democrats run virtually all education in America. Ever-increasingly, those Democrats focus on cranking out “good little Democrats” who are anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20161015/news/161019114/
— Round Lake Park wants more cash for police pensions – Bob Susnjara  (DIERSEN: The more video gambling that a village has, the more police that village needs, and the more tax revenue that it needs for police pensions.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20161014/news/161019173/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Village records show in the last financial year, which ended April 30, the state sent about $1.7 million to Round Lake Park as its share of taxes including motor fuel, income and video gambling. Murar said losing any of the state revenue to the pension fund would hurt daily operations. “We’re a small community, a small budget, small operating (expenses),” he said. “It would be very detrimental to the village and those services we provide to the citizens.” No opponents to the ballot question have publicly surfaced. Murar said supporters soon will start knocking on doors as part of a public information campaign.)

— Panel promotes putting ex-offenders back to work – THERESA CHURCHILL (DIERSEN: Who paints you to be an “offender?”  The following paint me as being an offender and even worse things: those who a) reject planks in the Republican Party platform and work against those like me who support those planks, b) reject planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform and work against those like me who support those planks, c) reject the Milton Township Republican Central Committee resolution against video gambling and work against those like me who support that resolution, d) focus on destroying those like me who they cannot manipulate/dominate, e) were defendants in lawsuits that I have filed, f) are operatives for the aforesaid, and/or g) are dupes for the aforesaid and those who are anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors.)

— Durbin hopeful GOP can find footing after election – Adam Studzinski  (DIERSEN: Are you a Republican precinct committeeman/captain?  If Clinton wins, who will the Democrats and the RINOs put in to run a) your township/ward Republican party, b) your county Republican party, and the Illinois Republican Party?  Of course, needless-to-say, the aforesaid will immediately get rid of those who did not demonize, denigrate, and condemn Trump.)
http://www.wjbc.com/2016/10/15/durbin-hopeful-gop-can-find-footing-after-election/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Despite the fact he’s a Democrat, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) hopes to see the Republican party find its footing once the election is over. Durbin said he has respect for the GOP, but some of the divisive comments made during the election process so far have “unleashed a force in American politics” he’s never seen. “I’m counting on good, mainstream, conservative Republicans to step up for the good of the country to say, we’ll sit down – and Democrats do the exactly same thing, and say the election has to be behind us. We’ll stand by the president, whoever that may be,” said Durbin. “And we try to find common ground to solve the problems that face this country.” Durbin gave credit to Republicans who have begun backing off their support of Donald Trump. “The recent revelation of what he said to this Billy Bush fellow 11 years ago was the end of it for most,” said Durbin. “And now Paul Ryan, who is nominally the highest ranking Republican in America, has said he will no longer defend the Republican presidential candidate. “I didn’t think I’d live to see the day.” Durbin spoke to students this week on Illinois Wesleyan University’s campus.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Since when has the American public endorsed affirmative action? Yet it’s a major factor in the lives of every student and many workers. Since when did we decide that men and women are interchangeable in hand-to-hand combat on the front lines? Why do we insist on women in combat but not in the NFL? Because we take football seriously. That’s no joke; it’s the sad truth. Did we invite the federal bureaucracy to take charge of school bathrooms? I guess I missed that meeting. The schools are corrupt and the universities rotten to the core, and everyone has known it since the 1980s. But the Democrats are owned by the teachers unions, and Republicans have made only small-scale corrections to a system that needs to be ripped out and carefully disposed of, like poison ivy.)

HOT SPRINGS SENTINEL RECORD
— Pope sends US church message with cardinal choices – AP  (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, the Catholic Church acts like it is an arm of the anti-Christian, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, and anti-American Democrat Party.)
http://www.hotsr.com/news/2016/oct/15/pope-sends-us-church-message-with-cardi/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Pope Francis named 17 new cardinals on Oct. 9, adding like-minded prelates from dioceses big and small to the club who will elect the next pope. Three were Americans in a clear signal to the conservative U.S. church hierarchy that Francis wants moderate pastors at the helm of the U.S. church. The U.S. appointments also sent a more subtle political message, weeks before the U.S. election, with the surprise pick of Indianapolis Archbishop Joseph Tobin. Tobin has openly opposed efforts by Indiana Gov. Michael Pence, now Donald Trump’s running mate, to bar Syrian refugees from being resettled in the state. A U.S. federal appeals court recently used stinging language in a ruling that will prevent the Republican vice presidential candidate from barring refugee resettlement in Indiana for now. Francis has made the plight of refugees one of the hallmarks of his papacy, even bringing a dozen Syrian refugees home with him from Lesbos, Greece. He has asserted that anyone who wants to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border to keep out migrants — as Trump has proposed — is “not Christian.” “You can find a political message” in the Tobin appointment, said Massimo Faggioli, a Villanova University expert on the Vatican.)

GETTYSBURG TIMES

http://davediersen.blogspot.com and http://capitalfax.blogspot.com
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Congress has dedicated the third week of October as National Save for Retirement Week. Clearly, the government feels the need to urge people to do a better job of preparing for retirement. Are you doing all you can?  Many of your peers aren’t – or at least they think they aren’t. In a recent survey conducted by Bankrate.com, respondents reported that “not saving for retirement early enough” was their biggest financial regret. Other evidence seems to show they have good cause for remorse: 52 percent of households 55 and older haven’t saved anything for retirement, according to a report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office, although half of this group reported having a pension.)

— Would you be unhappy with $780,000 a year? – CLAIRE BUSHEY  (DIERSEN: How much do/did you earn? The most that I ever earned in today’s dollars was a lousy $120,427 a year.  Of course, needless-to-say, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes use that to demonize me, to denigrate me, and to condemn me as being a failed loser and even worse things.)
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20161013/NEWS04/161019898/would-you-be-unhappy-with-780000-a-year
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The average total compensation for partners at Chicago law firms increased 13 percent in the last two years to $780,000, according to a new study. The growth rate eclipsed New York, where partners in the country’s largest legal market averaged $1.7 million annually, but compensation only went up 5 percent from 2014. By contrast, partners in San Francisco saw their comp shoot up 51 percent to $997,000, according to the report from New York-based legal recruiters Major Lindsey & Africa. The survey sample included more than 2,100 partners from across the country, with 244 from Chicago. The survey only went to lawyers practicing at the country’s largest firms; approximately 8,600 of Cook County’s more than 45,000 lawyers work at such operations. The city’s partners had the 10th highest average compensation among the 14 legal markets ranked by the headhunting firm. Growth in compensation has slowed since the last time the firm conducted the survey: Between 2012 and 2014, comp for the city’s senior lawyers grew nearly 20 percent from $575,000. Chicago’s lower compensation average may stem from the city’s historic practice of making lawyers partner at a younger age, said Jeffrey Lowe, the Washington D.C.-based author of the study. More of the partners taking the survey in Chicago are likely billing at the same rates as associates elsewhere in the country. Chicago’s billing rates, too, are a comparative bargain compared to the rest of the country. Partners in Chicago on average billed at $687 per hour. Only Philadelphia, Atlanta, Dallas, Seattle, Miami and “other” markets had lower rates. Just over a quarter of Chicago’s partners rated themselves as either “not at all” or “not very” satisfied with their compensation.)

http://www.mysuburbanlife.com/2016/10/12/group-home-for-young-mothers-proposed-for-former-wheaton-inn/a8390an/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A group home for new and expectant single mothers is being proposed for the former Wheaton Inn building at 301 W. Roosevelt Road in Wheaton. The Clarendon Hills-based company Love From Above Inc. has a contract to purchase the building from its current owner, PCM Properties LLC, a subsidiary of Invesco PowerShares. The group is set to close on the property in December. Love From Above plans to offer a two-year transitional housing program for women who find themselves in “crisis pregnancies,” said Yvonne Florczak-Seeman, president and founder of Love From Above. A culinary program and fashion design program also will be offered, she said. “We’ll also have a full-blown child care program, where their children will stay within the building,” Florczak-Seeman said. “Babies will be taken care of by volunteers while the moms go to school. We’ll have a full-time licensed teacher on the premises as well who will also work with them on their homework and give classes on finances and mothering classes.” The program would be offered to women 18 to 26 years old, she said, and would serve both expectant mothers and single mothers. The facility would serve up to 12 women. This would be the company’s first facility, which will be called The Butterfly Garden…A Place for Healing and Transformation. Florczak-Seeman, who is 52, experienced an unplanned pregnancy herself when she was 16. “Unfortunately, the choice for me was made to have an abortion,” she said. “I didn’t have any other options. That abortion brought forth some very serious emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual aftermath.” Florczak-Seeman said she wants those in the program to understand “pregnancy is not a terminal disease.” “Pregnancy is not something that will kill them,” she said. “Pregnancy is something that lasts nine months. During that time, they can still continue their education. They can still do what they need to do. They can still have these children and be great mothers, and be successful young ladies in school.”)

http://dupagepolicyjournal.com/stories/511018371-former-cod-board-member-savage-asks-federal-government-to-shut-down-dupage-policy-journal
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The filing questions the independence of the DuPage Policy Journal — alleging it is run by a political organization — and contends it should not be entitled to press exemption from campaign finance laws. Savage’s filing alleges the DuPage Policy Journal is not an independent newspaper, but rather is controlled by the Liberty Principles PAC through Dan Proft. Proft is a businessman, a radio talk-show host and a principal of Local Government Information Services, which owns the DuPage Policy Journal. Proft denied allegations made in the FEC filing and said the newspaper is owned by a private company. “It’s a legitimate newspaper just like any other newspaper,” Proft told the Associated Press. “I’ll put the stories we do on politics and policy up against any other newspaper in the state.” Rich Miller, publisher of the Capital Fax political blog and newsletter, agreed in a post that the problem with the filing is that the newspaper is owned by a private company. “Look, I do not want the federal government defining what is and is not a legit media company,” Miller wrote. “Progress Illinois does good work, but it gets most of its money from SEIU. I don’t know who funds Illinois Review, but I’m fine with them, too. Stay the heck away.” The FEC has 15 days to get a response from those accused in the complaint. It will then make a decision on whether to launch a full investigation.)

http://thehill.com/blogs/in-the-know/in-the-know/300484-biden-powell-to-drag-race-on-jay-lenos-car-show
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Vice President Biden and former Secretary of State Colin Powell will drag race to kick off season two of CNBC’s “Jay Leno’s Garage” on Nov. 9, the network announced Tuesday. Biden and Leno will also discuss the vice president’s beloved 1967 Corvette before he battles Powell, but the network did not specify which car models Biden and Powell would race against one another. CNBC added Biden and Powell’s appearance is the first of six new episodes of “Jay Leno’s Garage” airing this year. Other notable guest appearances during the upcoming six-episode season include comedian Jerry Seinfeld, actor Patrick Dempsey, country star Brad Paisley and NASCAR driver Joey Lagano. The vice president called himself “a car junkie” while visiting the Detroit auto show in 2014, speaking about his father’s work managing a pair of car dealerships. Biden showered praise on the Corvette Z06 during his appearance, praising the sports car’s engine power and speed. “I just want you to know that the ’67 was zero to 60 in 5.5 seconds,” he said in Detroit. “I didn’t do that…but it was. But this new Corvette, Z06, is zero to 60, allegedly, in 3.4 seconds.” Organizers behind the Draft Biden 2016 super PAC, meanwhile, also released merchandize last year that featured Biden cruising in a Corvette. The groups “ridin’ with Biden” logo depicted the vice president sporting aviator glasses behind the steering wheel.)

— Millennial traits shape economy  Millennials aren’t big spenders or risk takers, and that’s going to reshape the economy – Don Lee  (DIERSEN: What did you spend your money on when you were under 35?  For me, it was college expenses, new cars, real estate, etc. What risks did you take when you were under 35?  For me, it was seeking and accepting draft deferments; earning a job-related bachelor’s degree and two job-related master’s degrees; passing the CPA examination and the Certified Internal Auditor examination; becoming a licensed CPA; not becoming a Democrat; accepting job offers from Firestone Stores, Oldsmobile, IRS, and GAO; getting married; etc.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-millennials-economy-20161010-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: They’re known for bouncing around jobs, delaying marriage and holing up in their parents’ basements. Dubbed recently as the “children of the Great Recession” by Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, millennials are the best educated and most diverse population of young people in U.S. history. They are also perhaps the most coddled, some would say spoiled. As they emerge this year as the United States’ largest demographic group — some 75 million strong — millennials are taking up the mantle as the most impactful generation since the baby boomers. Their influence has started slowly, due largely to the economic instability that has left many struggling to find good-paying jobs and saddled with staggering student loan debt. But millennials — adults under 35 — are certain to shape the economy for decades to come. And their coming of age in the midst of the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression has bred distinct traits that could pose special challenges for the nation’s future growth and prosperity. For starters, millennials are not big spenders, at least not in the traditional sense. Millennials tend to prefer experiences over buying things and accumulating stuff. To them, an impressive selfie capturing a memorable moment is, in some sense, as enviable as a new car or fancy watch was to their parents.)

KANKAKEE DAILY JOURNAL
— Who’s losing on legal gambling? Looks like those who can least afford it – Editorial  (DIERSEN: Gambling is a vice.  If you promote gambling, you promote vice.)
http://www.daily-journal.com/opinion/editorials/who-s-losing-on-legal-gambling-looks-like-those-who/article_188cbdb8-38e8-5c5a-95b2-fa2409cc1cce.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: During the first eight months of the year, gamblers dropped $18.9 million into video poker machines in the city of Kankakee.  Daily Journal senior reporter Lee Provost recently reported on video poker totals in his weekly business column. The numbers were sobering — and staggering. In Kankakee, $4.3 million was “lost” in the machines. Ask yourself this. Who can afford to lose $4.3 million? The totals wagered from Kankakee add up to roughly all the totals from Aroma Park, $811,751; Bradley, $8.5 million; Bourbonnais, $1.8 million; Manteno, $6.3 million; and Momence, $2 million — combined. Here’s what this tells you. A disproportionate number of the terminals, or the wagers, or both, are coming from middle class and lower middle class areas. Does it make sense that Kankakee’s wagers are 10 times those of Bourbonnais? When video gambling was legalized, the initial thought seemed to be to help out small restaurants and taverns. Instead, what has happened is the creation of mini-professional storefronts that have rows of machines. A discussion of Aroma Park’s experience indicated that is where the money is flowing now. One mainstream Aroma Park restaurant no longer operates its machines. In addition, one local mayor quoted indicated that she had not seen many cars in front of one wagering establishment. Translation: It might be that a small number of people are losing a lot of money. Moreover, the amounts wagered are escalating rapidly — up by a third or more in half a dozen communities. Now, we would not want to be Carry Nation with the ax, crusading against demon rum. It would be impossible to go back to no gambling. But a wide range of studies estimates that somewhere from 1 to 2 percent of the population can be classified as being “problem gamblers.” These are people who don’t know when to stop, and show up to follow a bad day with another long session to get even. So, in the pile of proceeds being raked in by the state, we ask a question: Is enough money being set aside to help those who will need help? Much like cigarette taxes, the government seems to need and relish the money. Unlike tobacco, are we warning people enough?)

NEW YORK TIMES
— For G.O.P. Candidates, Renouncing Donald Trump Carries Dire Risks – MAGGIE HABERMANO  (DIERSEN: Of course, needless-to-say, those “Republican” activists, candidates, elected officials, party leaders, major donors, political consultants, fundraisers, etc. who renounce Trump, plan on using a Trump defeat to drive out of the Republican Party those who are Protestant, conservative, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/11/us/politics/republican-reaction-trump.html
— Were He Seeking Any Other Job, Trump Would Be Flagged by H.R. – Andrew Ross Sorkin  (DIERSEN: Many millions have not and will not seek a job with the federal government a) because the pay and benefits are terrible, b) because the advancement opportunities are terrible, c) because they lack required education, work experience, professional certifications, and/or professional licenses, d) because they cannot pass an employment examination, e) because they cannot pass a background investigation, f) because they cannot pass a physical examination, g) because they cannot take the demonization, denigration, and condemnation that comes with being a federal employee or federal retiree, and/or h) because they are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran and they know that the federal government discriminates against its employees who are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/11/business/dealbook/were-he-seeking-any-other-job-hr-would-flag-trump.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Donald Trump describes himself as a businessman. And he says he wants to run the government more like a business. But would any business hire Mr. Trump? It isn’t a trivial question. Given the Republican presidential nominee’s vulgar boasts about sexually assaulting women and trying to coerce a woman to commit adultery with him — among other things — it is hard to believe he could get past the human resources department of a Fortune 500 company. Over the last decade, much of corporate America has put in place strict policies to deal with sexual harassment and other offensive behavior, trying to make amends for an abhorrent history of letting such conduct go unchecked (remember “Mad Men”?). Hiring procedures at large companies, particularly for senior positions, include extensive background checks, which typically include interviewing former colleagues and combing through articles, court records and, yes, social media. Thousands of employees have been fired or pushed out for using far less repugnant language than Mr. Trump’s words about how he gropes women. Walmart, the nation’s largest employer, with some 2.2 million employees, has explicit policies, for example, that prohibit “sexually explicit language, off-color jokes, remarks about a person’s body” as well as “using slurs or negative stereotyping,” “verbal kidding, teasing or joking” and “intimidating acts, such as bullying or threatening.” By those definitions, it is not clear if Mr. Trump would qualify to be hired as a janitor, let alone a senior executive. A spokesman for Walmart, asked whether Mr. Trump’s comments would disqualify him from employment there, said: “We’ve got a policy of not entertaining hypotheticals.” Mr. Trump has apologized for his language, which he described as “locker room talk.” But he used the language while on the job; he was recorded on a live microphone while working to promote “The Apprentice,” his popular reality show.)
— Trump’s Threat to Jail Clinton Erodes Democracy, Experts Say – MAX FISHER and AMANDA TAUB  (DIERSEN: Constructively, Clinton promises, if elected, to use the federal government to give those who are anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors WHAT THEY WANT.)

— Donald Trump’s Sad, Lonely Life – David Brooks
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/11/opinion/donald-trumps-sad-lonely-life.html
— Count Trump Among the Takers – BRYCE COVERT  (DIERSEN: Are you a taker?  Should everyone be required to publicly disclose how much federal income tax that they have paid in each of the last 10, 20, 30, 40, 50+ years?  Since 1978, my wife and I have paid more federal income tax because we pay the marriage penalty.  SEE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriage_penalty)
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/11/opinion/campaign-stops/count-trump-among-the-takers.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Because Donald J. Trump hasn’t released his tax returns, we don’t know exactly what portion of his fortune he has sent the federal government. But in the second presidential debate, he confirmed that there were a number of years where he paid nothing at all. A week ago, The Times published his partial state tax returns from 1995 that show a substantial business loss that could have allowed him to avoid paying income taxes for nearly two decades. When asked by the moderator Anderson Cooper whether he indeed used the loss to get out of a tax bill, Mr. Trump replied, “Of course I do.”  But rather than attempt to convince the American people that he had paid his fair share of taxes, Mr. Trump has vociferously defended the virtue of his ways, even arguing that paying nothing makes him fit to be president. “That makes me smart,” he retorted when presented with the idea during the first presidential debate. He told the Fox host Bill O’Reilly two days later, “A lot of people say, ‘That’s the kind of thinking that I want running this nation.’ ” He’s now calling it “brilliant.” Mr. Trump’s assertion that people should pay as little as they can in taxes — because, as he told Mr. O’Reilly, the government will “waste the money” — fits with quite an old conservative ideology. The government is bloated, inefficient and trampling on freedoms, the thinking goes; therefore, it deserves as little of our tax money to prop it up as possible. It’s no coincidence that Mr. Trump proposed a tax cut during the primary that was unprecedented, costing the government about double the revenue as would have been lost to Mitt Romney’s plan.)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/wheaton/news/ct-wheaton-single-mothers-home-1007-20161006-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A long-vacant office building in a prominent Wheaton location could be repurposed as a group home for new and expectant single mothers. Built in 1987 as the Wheaton Inn bed-and-breakfast, the 19,813-square-foot, three-story brick building at 301 W. Roosevelt Road, later was used as the offices for Invesco PowerShares, an exchange-traded fund firm. The company relocated to offices in the former Sara Lee building in Downers Grove in July 2012, and since then, the building has been vacant and listed for sale. Now, the Clarendon Hills-based nonprofit group Love from Above has a contract to purchase the building and is proposing to place up to 12 expectant mothers in the house. The group’s founder and CEO, Yvonne Florczak-Seeman, said Love from Above intends to buy the building from Invesco PowerShares subsidiary PCM Properties LLC and use it for a two-year transitional housing program. The building will be known as the Butterfly Garden, she said. “This is for women in college who get pregnant who want to continue their education but don’t want to have an abortion. For them, their choices are parenting or abortion,” Florczak-Seeman said. For Florczak-Seeman, 52, the issue of support during an unplanned pregnancy is a powerful — and personal — one. As a teenager, she experienced an unplanned pregnancy and made the decision to have an abortion — a decision she says she regrets. “Pregnancy is not a terminal illness or a disease,” she said. “It’s a nine month process. We need to empower these girls. Motherhood won’t destroy them; it will mature them. Motherhood or adoption is a beautiful decision. I have been feeling that this kind of program is much needed. There is not one organization that empowers young ladies.” The building will serve as the home for women ages 18 to 26 for two years each, Florczak-Seeman said. The building would have a nursery to care for babies whose mothers want to attend classes. The group also would offer on-site culinary and fashion design programs for mothers, she said. The group, which also would place all of its offices on the first floor of the building, relies on private donors, Florczak-Seeman said. “We are very excited,” she said. Wheaton officials said that while they have received an application from the group, they haven’t yet determined what kind of zoning change, if any, the group’s proposed use would require. PCM Properties LLC bought the building for $2.625 million in 2005 from Kathryn Harbison, who had run the Wheaton Inn bed-and-breakfast.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Every week, the Illinois Valley Times reaches mailboxes in La Salle County, with stories promoting the candidacies of Republican state representative candidates Jerry Long and David Welter. One of its owners, Dan Proft, is largely mum about the local paper, which is among a string of conservative publications popping up around the state this year. The local paper, which started in July, has no advertising, other than for a nonprofit conservative group to which Proft belongs. The chain was started in the winter by the Chicago-based Liberty Principles PAC, which receives much of its money from Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner. Over the summer, a private corporation, Local Government Information Services Inc., took possession of the papers, Proft said. The company filed its corporate paperwork with the state in mid-August, a few weeks into its management of the papers. The Times asked Proft how the company makes money with its newspapers. “I’m certain you don’t understand how newspapers or businesses make money,” Proft said in an email to a reporter. “In addition to ads, have you ever heard of the concept of subscriptions as a revenue source for newspapers, for example? Are you familiar with the concept of seed capital used to launch and grow a business? I didn’t think so.” Proft said the reporter could not be fair in reporting about his company’s newspapers, suggesting the reporter favors Long’s opponent, Rep. Andy Skoog, D-La Salle. “That makes you an advocate not a journalist. So please make sure Andy Skoog reports your ‘stories’ as in-kind contributions (in his campaign reports),” Proft said in an email. The registered agent for the company is an accountant, which often is the case in corporate filings. The company’s information listed no president, though Proft has confirmed before he is one of the owners. Proft, a former Republican candidate for governor and radio show host, declined to answer whether any seed money for the company came from Liberty Principles PAC. By law, political action committees must report expenditures and donations. He also wouldn’t say whether the papers would stop circulating after the Tuesday, Nov. 8, election. The paper regularly runs stories favorable to Long, of Streator, and Rep. David Welter, R-Morris, who is facing Democrat Martha Shugart, of Morris. The most recent editions contained headlines such as “Long supports Illinois farming” and “Welter seeks district input.” ‘Justifiable grounds’  In March, the state Board of Elections ruled complaints against Liberty Principles and its papers were filed on “justifiable grounds.” The complaints alleged Liberty Principles failed to include proper attribution of its papers’ funding source and coordinated with candidates. In its ruling, the elections board said Liberty Principles was “admonished” to ensure all its political literature and communications identify the PAC as its funder. Specifically, it must include “paid for by” language. At some point afterward, Local Government Information Services took control of the papers. In July and August, the Illinois Valley Times included no ownership information. Now it lists its corporate owner, but still includes no phone number. Skoog tied to Mautino  Liberty Principles, which Proft heads, still involves itself in La Salle County. This week, the group distributed a mailer linking Skoog to his predecessor, Frank Mautino, D-Spring Valley, whose campaign spending is under federal investigation. “Will Andy Skoog be any different than Frank Mautino?” the flier asks. Earlier this year, Skoog publicly asked Mautino to answer questions about his spending. But, like Gov. Rauner, Skoog declined to join calls for Mautino’s resignation as state auditor general, saying he wants investigations completed first.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: “He that will not work shall not eat (except by sickness he be disabled). For the labors of 30 or 40 honest and industrious men shall not be consumed to maintain 150 idle loiterers.” — John Smith, 1609  One out of 6 prime-working-age adult males in the United States is not temporarily unemployed, or “between jobs,” or “looking for work.” No, a huge cohort of men in America is now neither employed nor looking for work. They are just skating by on a combination of girlfriends, wives, mothers and government benefits. Their status, argues Nicholas Eberstadt in “Men Without Work,” is a “quiet catastrophe.” Until relatively recently, choosing not to work was a luxury only the wealthy could afford. Everyone else had to keep the wolf from the door (though the temptation to try to live off others has always been with us — see John Smith above). In the 1950s, 98 percent of prime-age males were working or looking for work (i.e., in the labor force). Today it is 88 percent. Recessions have affected labor-force participation, but the downward trend line has been consistent for decades. Only 15 percent of non-working men cite inability to find work as the reason for their idleness. Eberstadt examines the usual explanations. The retirement of baby boomers? It doesn’t account for the decline in work by those aged 25-54 (traditionally, the group most likely to be employed). The participation of prime-age men in the labor force fell from 94.1 percent in 1948 to 84.3 percent in 2015. Aren’t more men in college? If the work patterns of 1965 were obtained today, even accounting for the extra students enrolled in education programs, an additional 10 percent of America’s young men would be employed. “The overwhelming majority of adult male job trainees,” Eberstadt writes, “appear to be job holders already. … Most men enrolled in formal schooling are also in the workforce.”)

However, it became increasing clear that my Democrat IRS superiors wanted to replace me with someone who was a Democrat, a minority, a female, younger than me, and/or a veteran. In keeping with that, in 1978, my Democrat IRS superiors disallowed all the aforesaid courses. They hinted/implied/argued/shouted that the courses a) were not job-related, b) did not help me carry out my job duties, c) were taken by me to get a job in the private sector, d) qualified me for a new trade or business, and e) were a distraction.  I took IRS to Tax Court and I won, the court allowed all my graduate business courses.  However, the court disallowed the graduate accounting courses that I had taken at DePaul 1976-1978 by accepting my Democrat IRS superiors’ argument that those courses qualified me for a new trade or business.)

The college agrees with all 19 points. The report examined whether the college fulfilled its responsibilities during fiscal years 2011 through 2014, revealing that the board of trustees was not evaluating former President Robert Breuder’s performance annually, as is required by policy. Lack of oversight and approval of financial investments, contracts and budget transfers also raised questions.)

DAILY HERALD
— Naperville Republicans hosting spring primary to make election ‘open’ – Marie Wilson  (DIERSEN: If you are NOT going to defend and advance the Republican Party platform and the Illinois Republican Party platform, you should NOT seek or hold any kind of government or political office as a Republican.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20161004/news/161009522/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republican voters in Naperville Township should mark their calendars for Feb. 28, 2017, when they can head to the polls for a primary election. The Naperville Township Republican Organization decided to hold a primary next year instead of a caucus to choose candidates for positions before the April 4 election. Seats included in the primary are for supervisor, clerk, assessor, highway commissioner and four township trustees. Carl Schultz, Naperville Township Republican chairman, said the group chose to buck its recent trend of slating candidates through a caucus because a primary will allow all interested voters to get involved. “I think it’s a very positive move,” Naperville Township Supervisor Rachel Ossyra said. “It shows the organization’s commitment to transparency, accountability and ensuring all the voters have access.” With a caucus, state-mandated to take place during a gathering on a certain night, Schultz said “there’s a lot of people that are excluded — not maliciously, but by fact.” Military members or college students or anyone who happens to be out of town on caucus night wouldn’t be able to participate, Schultz said. Neither would anyone in the hospital or unable to access the caucus site. The decision comes at a time when Naperville Township is the subject of political discussions about government consolidation — either by managing road district operations through agreements with other entities or by potentially eliminating townships themselves. “Given some of the local issues regarding townships, we thought we should broaden (the candidate selection process) and make it as open to the entire community as possible,” Schultz said. “It gives voters the best opportunity to weigh in on what’s going on.” What’s going on, Schultz and Ossyra say, is really a discussion about “modernizing government.” The discussion could mean more people will want to be involved as candidates. If there is broader interest, Naperville Township Highway Commissioner Stan Wojtasiak said hosting a primary is a good move. It allows anyone to gather signatures, get their name on the ballot and run — without having to be a party insider. “It opens up the field to anybody who has any interest,” Wojtasiak said. The Republican organization is encouraging anyone who wants to run for a township position to review the 2017 candidate’s guide from the Illinois State Board of Elections. Prospective candidates must file nominating petitions between Nov. 21 and 28.)

1011 NOW
— Lawmakers concerned as millennials show little interest in public service – Peter Zampa (DIERSEN: Many millions have not and will not seek a job with the federal government a) because the pay and benefits are terrible, b) because the advancement opportunities are terrible, c) because they lack required education, work experience, professional certifications, and/or professional licenses, d) because they cannot pass an employment examination, e) because they cannot pass a background investigation, f) because they cannot pass a physical examination, g) because they cannot take the demonization, denigration, and condemnation that comes with being a federal employee or federal retiree, and/or h) because they are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran and they know that the federal government discriminates against its employees who are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)
http://www.1011now.com/content/news/Lawmakers-concerned-as-millennials-continue-to-show-little-interest-in-public-service-395866121.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Are millennials uninterested in public service? That’s a question lawmakers are pondering in Washington. Statistics show younger generations are scared off by federal government jobs. “Bring back this sense of civic idealism that you can make a difference,” said Steven Olikara, Founding President of the Millennial Action Project. Millennials are shying away from public service. The goal of the Millennial Action Project is to bring American politics into a more inclusive and bipartisan age, by using the talents of younger generations. “There’s this larger narrative that we have to combat which is that you can’t make a difference in public service,” said Olikara. “The levels of distrust continue to be high levels. Something like 80 percent of millennials don’t trust the government to do the right thing.” Olikara says recruitment and compensation are two huge issues when it comes to incentivizing young people. “There is a systemic problem, we need cultural change, and I think the biggest thing I hear all the time is, we need to be rewarding talent and rewarding results,” said Olikara.)

(FRON THE ARTICLE: With crime surging citywide, residents in one of Chicago’s wealthiest neighborhoods are chipping in to hire private security guards to patrol their 16-square-block section of Lake View a half-mile west of Wrigley Field. Among those donating to the cause: Cubs President Theo Epstein and his wife. The Epsteins are among “dozens” of families who have contributed to the Southport Community Alliance, a not-for-profit group formed in June to pay for patrols of homes bounded by West Grace Street, West Roscoe Street, and Southport and Ashland avenues. Marie Whitney, Epstein’s wife, is one of three directors of the organization, according to state records. Besides a rise in burglaries and robberies in their neighborhood, the Epsteins understandably have other concerns about safety.)

— The Case for Bureaucracy – PAUL R. VERKUIL (DIERSEN: I worked for IRS for almost 9 years and I worked for GAO on audits of IRS for 3 years.)
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/03/opinion/the-case-for-bureaucracy.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Internal Revenue Service, for example, offers a compelling case for adding professionals. Mr. Trump talks about raising revenue by collecting unpaid taxes, and according to the I.R.S., the “tax gap” of unpaid but owed taxes is some $400 billion. If only 20 percent of that could be collected, it would yield substantial funds. But we need agents to collect these owed taxes and to perform audits. Historically, I.R.S. employees have returned many times the dollar amount invested in their salaries and benefits. The audit rate is now at a record low, however, and the I.R.S. relies increasingly on a tradition of voluntary taxpayer compliance, which is waning. (We can only imagine what a President Trump, who seems to boast about not paying taxes, would do to that tradition.) Moreover, another of Mr. Trump’s proposed revenue sources, stopping improper payments, would also be aided by more I.R.S. agents. The Government Accountability Office has shown that billions of dollars are paid to those who hack into taxpayers’ accounts and divert refunds. Existing staff members simply can’t keep up with these technologically sophisticated perpetrators of fraud. More professionals, schooled in cybersecurity, are called for. There is a common misconception that our bureaucracy has grown out of control. The federal civilian work force (excepting Postal Service employees) is about two million, roughly the same size it was during the Kennedy administration. In effect, the Civil Service has drastically shrunk since then, for the gross domestic product has multiplied five times, and numerous new agencies (like the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Homeland Security) have added significant and complicated missions to the federal agenda. Because of a shortage of federal positions, the only way these agencies could be staffed was by adding contractors, who, according to one estimate, now exceed the number of federal workers by a factor of four. These contractors, who are often more costly than a government counterpart would be, operate under increasingly thin federal management and scrutiny. The political scientist John J. DiIulio Jr. calls this “leviathan by proxy.” There are not only constitutional concerns but also management problems with contractors performing what are deemed by statute and regulations to be “inherent government functions.” These are functions that should not be outsourced. But when they are, it leads to further inefficiencies.)

ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL

My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois hint/imply/argue/shout that because they are vastly superior to me, they never had to take such bad jobs and that they never would take such bad jobs.
