(FROM THE ARTICLE: “Any consultant would say you’ve got to take the other guy down. It may be too late for him to project any sense of why the next four years would be any different than the last four years. That’s the question,” Axelrod said. “If he were to come back under these conditions, it would be one of the greatest political rehabilitation stories in Illinois history,” said Axelrod, who expects Rauner “to run brutal negative ads and hope he can knock Pritzker down to the point to pass him.” Axelrod said Rauner’s favorability numbers also need to rise in order for him to get out of his funk. The poll shows voters have a negative opinion of him by a 2-to-1 margin. Those numbers seem “almost impossible to surmount,” said Axelrod. “But impossible things happen in politics.” Told of Axelrod’s comments, Rauner spokesman Alex Browning responded, “Pundits and public polling were wrong about Bruce Rauner in 2014 and they’ll be wrong again in 2018. With Illinois’ future on the line, voters care about lowering taxes and fighting corruption, not polling and prop bets.”)

— Singapore Says ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Author Skipped Military Service – Austin Ramzy (DIERSEN: Did you avoid the draft? Trump and I did. I should write a book about those who have punished me the most for my avoiding the draft by getting four student draft deferments 1966-1970 and a financial hardship draft deferment 1970-1971.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/22/world/asia/kevin-kwan-crazy-rich-asians-singapore-military.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The author of “Crazy Rich Asians,” the best-selling novel on which the new hit film is based, never fulfilled his national service obligations in Singapore and could face a fine or potential prison term, the country’s Ministry of Defense said Wednesday. The status of the author, Kevin Kwan, was revealed by the authorities one day after the film, which was largely set and filmed in Singapore, made its premiere there. Mr. Kwan did not attend the opening there, although the director, Jon M. Chu, and several of the film’s stars did. Mr. Kwan, 44, left Singapore when he was 11 and moved to Houston. Singapore requires all male citizens to perform two years of service in the military, the police or the civil defense force, generally starting at age 18. Singaporeans are not allowed to renounce their citizenship until they turn 21, and can face legal problems if they try to do so without fulfilling their national service. Some profiles of Mr. Kwan said he became an American citizen at age 18. But Singapore appears to have not given up its claims to him. The Ministry of Defense said Mr. Kwan’s application to renounce his citizenship in 1994 was rejected, as was a subsequent appeal. “Mr. Kwan has committed offenses under the Enlistment Act,” the ministry said in a statement, adding that he could face a fine of up to $7,300 and/or imprisonment of up to three years if convicted.)

BLOOMBERG
— What’s Holding Back Wages in America? (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes continue to be beyond furious that because of cost-of-living adjustments, step increases, and promotions, my salary increased every year that I worked for the federal government 1966-1969 and 1971-1997 except for 1980 when I took a $19,203 (26%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO. In my defense, I earned a) a job-related bachelor’s degree when I was 21 in 1970 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) a job-related professional license when I was 32.)

POLITICO ILLINOIS
— FROM THE ARTICLE: Rauner is less popular than President Donald Trump. Thirty percent of Illinoisans have a favorable view of Trump, according to the NBC News/Marist poll, compared with Rauner’s 26 percent. Pritzker is at 38 percent in the poll. How Trump supporters lean. The poll notes that 58% of Trump voters in Cook County support Pritzker, vs. 21 percent for Rauner. More interesting, 43 percent of central/downstate Trump voters say they’ll vote for Pritzker, vs. 33 percent supporting Rauner. The fallout: A top of the ticket blowout could have serious down-ballot implications, especially for central and downstate congressional and state legislative races. Good example: Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Bost in the 12th or U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis in the 13th District.

While I was a federal employee for almost 30 years, my Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates demonized me, denigrated me, and condemned me as being undeservedly filthy rich. They stressed the money that I spent on new cars, tuition, real estate, collector cars, etc. They stressed the money that I saved for retirement. They always used the aforesaid to hint/imply/argue/shout a) that I was overpaid, b) that I should not have been promoted in 1972, 1973, 1974, or 1986, and c) that I should be forced to take early retirement. They hinted/implied/agued/shouted that they had less money a) because they did not avoid the draft, b) because they did not marry someone who had income, and/or c) because they had children. (FROM THE ARTICLE: The head of the Illinois Democratic County Chairs’ Association says the governor’s use of his personal wealth to rebuild the state Republican Party is breaking the GOP. Doug House sought to differentiate between Rauner giving millions of dollars to the state Republican Party and J.B. Pritzker’s cash helping to rebuild the Democratic Party. “He broke the Republican Party. He took a large amount of money and set it in front of a fan and turned it on and it just spread across the state Republican Party in a way that did motivate or make them enthusiastic for their candidacy, but it didn’t do anything to build their party. It didn’t create any infrastructure. It didn’t motivate and bring out any activists and build the party through people,” House said Sunday on WGN-AM 720. “Once that money’s gone and once that resource is gone, I feel that he’s broken the Republican Party in a way they will have forgotten what they have learned in terms of raising money and in terms of that grassroots infrastructure type of things they did,” he said. In contrast, House said Pritzker’s money has helped set up the “Blue Wave Illinois” program that included candidate recruitment, training and organizational help for county Democratic organizations across the state that work in building grassroots support. Democrats, House said, have “certainly benefited by his enthusiasm but also by the resources he’s brought to bear to help rebuild and re-energize our party across the state. He’s expressed a genuine interest from the very beginning in the introduction of himself and his campaign that he was interested in helping to build the party.”)

— Unbalanced Illinois…again and again and again – Ted Dabrowski and John Klingner (DIERSEN: What, if anything, has unbalanced you budget for this year? For me it was my 1972 Corvette. D&M Corvette in Downers Grove has appraised my 1972 Corvette at $41,500. But that was after I recently invested $6,702 in the car – $5,228 to D&M ($3,466 labor and $1,762 parts) and $1,474 to Coker Tire for 5 Firestone Wide Oval replica tires. I had not started the car for almost 9 years. Most of D&M’s bill was for repairing damage that ethanol did to car’s entire fuel system. The master cylinder and four calipers were replaced, A/C was charged, carburetor was rebuilt and fuel pump replaced, minor electrical and mechanical problems were fixed, five new tires were installed, new battery was installed, etc. I could have avoided much if not all of the fuel system and brake problems if I had driven the car more – at least once each summer. But my excuse for not starting the car since 2009 is that since 2004, I have spent 10+ hours each and every day putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out.)

John Pitcher, fellow of St John’s College, wanted to carry on working beyond the university’s self-imposed retirement age of 67 but was told two years ago that he would have to go. 1. LOUIS TODAY
    — Amateur hour in Illinois – Kevin McDermott (DIERSEN: What experience do you have? How hard have your critics/opponents worked to marginalize your experience? My critics/opponents have always worked extremely hard to marginalize my experience. I worked for GAO for almost 18 years, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently $96,403-$125,325. I worked for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880. I am a Forensic Accountant, Certified Financial Services Auditor, Certified Government Financial Manager, Certified Fraud Examiner, licensed CPA, Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and CPA. I passed the CIA and CPA examinations on my first attempt. I have master’s degrees in finance, accounting, and business.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: I’m terrible with cars. I mean, can’t-so-much-as-change-a-spark-plug terrible. May I tune yours up for you? I’m bad in the kitchen, too. Eggs and toast are pretty much my whole repertoire, and I tend to burn the toast. Want me to cater your next event? You’d probably rather call a chef, or a mechanic. Expertise matters. Except when it comes to filling the top leadership posts in our democracy. Then, it seems, we’re ready to take a chance on those who have never led so much as a school board meeting. How often have you heard a candidate for governor, senator, even president boast that his or her complete lack of lower-rung political experience is a shimmering plus rather than a glaring minus? And how does that usually work out? Think about disgraced ex-Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens. Think about our current chaos president. Why do we imagine that high political leadership is the one job best left to the amateurs? Picture your dentist using that logic: I’ve never actually worked on teeth before. I’m proud to be an “outsider.” Open wide! That’s basically what’s unfolding right now in Illinois. For the second consecutive election, voters in the Land of Lincoln this November will choose a mega-wealthy governor who has never held any lower political office, and who only got to this one with a massive boost from his personal checkbook. We know this will be true regardless of the election result, because it’s a description that fits both of the major-party candidates. Sure, incumbent Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner can claim four years of on-the-job training, but given his performance during that time, it’s not much of a claim. He had never held any political office before buying into his first gubernatorial term in 2014 with $27.6 million from his own pocket. A venture capitalist, what he brought with him from that world were boardroom skills that you can’t say have been unproductive in office — because they’ve been counterproductive in office. As for Hyatt Hotels heir and Democratic nominee J.B. Pritzker, it seems his primary qualification for governor, and the main reason his party handed him the nomination over more experienced Democrats, is the 10-figure fortune he was born into and his willingness to use it. Rauner is worth nine figures, and Democrats decided to fight fire with more fire. Business people with no political experience who run for high office invariably argue that their business skills are not just an adequate substitute for political skills, but are better. This has never made sense. The goals, rules and responsibilities of business are completely different from those of politics. Rauner’s first term has been a textbook illustration of those differences.)

They a) reject planks in the Republican Party platform and/or the Illinois Republican Party platform and work against those like me who support those planks, b) reject the Milton Township Republican Central Committee resolution against video gambling and work against those like me who support that resolution, c) focus on destroying those like me who they cannot manipulate/dominate, and/or d) were defendants in lawsuits that I have filed.)

The master cylinder and four calipers were replaced, A/C was charged, carbonator was rebuilt and fuel pump replaced, minor electrical and mechanical problems were fixed, five new tires were installed, new battery was installed, etc. I could have avoided much if not all of the fuel system and brake problems if I had driven the car more – at least once each summer. But my excuse for not starting the car since 2009 is that since 2004, I have spent 10+ hours each and every day putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out.)

(FROM THE EDITORIAL: Ford has confirmed what Tom and Gail were hearing — that their Mustang was the first ever sold — and now the car is on display in Michigan this week as the company celebrates the sale of its 10 millionth Mustang. Not only did the Gail and Tom Wise hang on to their Mustang all these years; they also hung on to the original paperwork. By one estimate, that makes their old blue car worth as much as $450,000. We are constantly reminded to de-junk our lives. The KonMari method tells us to tidy up. Feng shui tells us to remove unneeded items. But sometimes there’s joy to be found in proper storage.)

— Twitter slammed for ‘shadow banning’ prominent Republicans – James Rogers (DIERSEN: I should write a book about those who have worked the hardest since 2000 to ban me and my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails.)
http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2018/07/25/twitter-slammed-for-shadow-banning-prominent-republicans.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Twitter is taking heat for “shadow banning” certain prominent Republicans, restricting their visibility in search results. The social media giant came under fire after Republican Party chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, several conservative Republican congressmen, including Rep. Devin Nunes and Andrew Surabian, the spokesman for Donald Trump Jr., failed to appear in Twitter’s auto-populated drop-down search results. The news was first reported by Vice News. “The notion that social media companies would suppress certain political points of view should concern every American. Twitter owes the public answers to what’s really going on,” tweeted McDaniel.)

After it admitted pages – including those run by Russian operatives – had scammed the social network with made-up news and video during the 2016 presidential election, Facebook forced through a series of changes designed to prevent a repeat, such as letting users flag content they think is false and then having third-party fact checkers examine the post. But I soon learned that GAO, and especially its Chicago office, is extremely partisan.)
https://fcw.com/articles/2018/07/17/congress-tech-knowledge-base.aspx
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Kosar also noted that the staffs of nonpartisan congressional assistance entities, such as the Congressional Research Service and the Government Accountability Office, have seen their staff size decrease. And in the technology arena, that knowledge gap is even more glaring. Congress once had the Office of Technology Assessment, an internal congressional think tank that produced reports on technical matters for lawmakers, but it was shuttered in the 1990s to cut costs. Earlier this year, lawmakers attempted to revive OTA, which peaked at a budget of $20 million and a size of 140 staffers, but the bid failed on a mostly party-line vote in the House.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Cintron was Trump’s driver for 20 years, until the Secret Service took over when Trump became the Republican presidential nominee in 2016, according to the suit. He didn’t raise the overtime claim until now because he wasn’t fully mindful of his right to it and didn’t want to cause trouble at work, said one of his lawyers, Larry Hutcher. “He was always concerned about keeping his job. It was something that he did not want to push,” Hutcher said. As a driver, Cintron started his workday at 7 a.m., finished whenever Trump, his relatives or Trump Organization associates said he could go home, and routinely worked 50- to 55-hour weeks without getting overtime but was eligible for it, the lawsuit says. It says Cintron has made $75,000 a year since 2010, when he got a raise from $68,000 but gave up his health insurance in exchange, so the boost wasn’t “meaningful.” Before that, his last raise — roughly $5,000 a year — was in 2006, the suit says. The suit alleges federal and state labor law violations and seeks six years of unpaid overtime — the legal time limit for such claims — plus interest, attorneys’ fees and unspecified damages. http://www.dailyherald.com/discuss/20180710/editorial-the-merits-of-illinois-retirement-savings-option
(FROM THE ARTICLE: When the process is complete, all Illinois companies with more than 25 employees that do not offer retirement-savings options will be required to automatically divert 5 percent of each worker’s pay into a Roth IRA managed by a private financial services company under contract with the state. Employees have options for managing their accounts, and they are not required to participate. But they should think carefully before deciding to opt out. The great merit of employer-operated retirement savings plans is that they help ensure that workers save for retirement by transferring money into investments before they’re tempted to spend it.)

WSIL TV
— Lawmakers react to SCOTUS pick – Elizabeth Taylor (DIERSEN: I should write a book about how GAO’s Democrat employees in its Chicago office REACTED to my transferring from IRS to GAO in 1980 when I was 31 years old. Needless-to-say, they were disgusted, outraged, and beyond furious. GAO audits IRS. They viciously demonized, viciously denigrated, and viciously condemned the knowledge of IRS that I had gained by working for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880. They wanted me to suffer a much greater pay cut to transfer than the $19,203 (26%) pay cut that I suffered. They stressed a) that my Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974 and b) that my Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968. They stressed that I was a draft-avoiding non-veteran conservative Republican who opposed patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation. They stressed that I was 100% German national origin, a Missouri Synod Lutheran, and someone whose ancestors had been in America since the 1840s. They hinted/implied/argued that IRS should NOT have a) hired me in 1971, b) promoted me in 1972, 1973, or 1974, or c) let me work there for almost 9 years. They hinted/implied/argued that the Post Office should NOT have a) hired me in 1966 or b) let me work there for almost 3 years. They were disgusted, outraged, and beyond furious that I transferred in with almost 12 years of federal seniority, 30 unused vacation days, and more than 100 unused sick days. They hinted/implied/argued/shouted that legislative branch employees were far superior to executive branch employees. They stressed that I had been a union member while I worked for the Post Office and for IRS and that I had filed grievances. They dismissed, belittled, badmouthed, demonized, denigrated, and condemned what I had learn by a) passing the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979, b) almost completing the requirements for a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul, c) earning an MBA from Loyola in 1976, and d) earning a bachelor’s degree in management from NIU in 1970. They painted me and my wife as being undeservedly filthy rich DINKs (dual income, no kids). They stressed that we owned 1017 East Harrison in Wheaton, owned and rented out 774-5 Sunset Court in University Park, and owned a 1972 Corvette, a 1978 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale, and a 1978 Chevy Chevette. They stressed my wife’s salary and her frequent business trips to luxury resorts that could and did accompany her on. They hinted/implied/argued/shouted that my parents were undeservedly filthy rich because they sent me to Trinity Lutheran Grade School in Crete 1953-1961 and then to Hope Lutheran Grade School in Park Forest 1961-1962 to stay with the Missouri Synod. They stressed that I had lived in Crete 1948-1972 and in Wheaton since 1978 and hinted/implied/argued/shouted that Crete and Wheaton were full of people who were White supremacists, Nazis, KKK members, haters, racists, sexists, bigots, and even worse things. They talked and acted like they had read and memorized every word in Money Magazine’s nasty February 1978 4-page article on me.)

AMERICAN THINKER
— Invaders Are Not Immigrants – Shari Goodman
https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/07/invaders_are_not_immigrants.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Democratic Party, along with its shills in the mainstream media, has misleadingly blurred the lines between the definition of “immigrant” and “invader.” An immigrant is an alien who has been granted the right to permanently reside in the United States by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. An “invader,” as defined by Merriam Webster, is one who “trespasses, encroaches, and infringes upon another’s property.” The United States is our collective home and those who come here without seeking and gaining permission to enter our collective home are no different than an uninvited guest who enters our personal home to take up residence without permission. As a legal immigrant brought to the United States from Germany at a young age by my parents, I and many legal immigrants who waited sometimes years to obtain the necessary visa for entry resent those who merely walk across our border and claim to be “immigrants.” An immigrant is one who seeks and gains approval to enter, while invaders disrespect our laws put in place by “We the people.” Currently the Democratic Party, under the leadership of Tom Perez, a Marxist, and Keith Ellison, a Muslim Brotherhood operative, have been campaigning for open borders. They have resisted President Trump’s border enforcement, and many others are now calling for the abolishment of ICE (Immigration Custom Enforcement). One only has to look at crime statistics committed by illegals to see a glimpse of what a borderless United States holds for us. The Daily Wire reported that 92 percent of confirmed aliens in Federal Bureau of Prisons custody are illegals and that 97 percent of confirmed aliens in the U.S. Marshal Service custody are illegals. Furthermore, 21 percent of those convicted of non-immigration crimes were non-citizens and 2.5 times their share of the population. The Government Accountability Office reported in 2011 that there were 251,000 criminal aliens in federal, state, and local prisons. Those aliens represented nearly three million criminal offenses, which ranged from homicide and kidnappings to drugs, burglary, and larceny. These criminal offenses would not have occurred here had these criminals been prevented from gaining a foothold into our home and thousands of lives would not have been lost.)

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Why didn’t the Daily Herald report on Wheaton’s 2018 Independence Day parade?
http://www.gopillinois.com

Why didn’t the Daily Herald report on Wheaton’s 2018 Independence Day parade? Was it:

— because “DuPage County Republicans” was the lead sponsor of the parade? 19 Republicans contributed $2,500 to help sponsor the parade. Illinois Republican Party leader and Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar contributed $500, Judge Jeff MacKay contributed $250, and DuPage County Forest Preserve Commissioner Tim Whelan contributed $150. Bob Berlin, Dan Cronin, Tim Elliott, Amy Grant, Gwen Henry, Paul Hinds, Marty Keller, Deanne Mazzochi, Dave Molitor, John Monino, Chris Nybo, Peter Roskam, Darlene Ruscitti, Phil Suess, Kevin Wiley, and Karen Wilson each contributed $100.

— because DuPage County Republicans got credit for sponsoring the Tunes of Glory bagpipers and the Wheaton North and South High School band entries in the parade?

— because I hand delivered 500 flyers that promoted the parade, the Republican parade sponsors, and the Republican parade entries to residences and businesses, including the residences on Main Street and two blocks east and west of Main Street south of Harrison Street?

— because Republican elected officials and candidates in the parade were Peter Roskam, Evelyn Sanguinetti, Erika Harold, Mike Connelly, Peter Breen, Jeanne Ives, Amy Grant, Paul Hinds, James Mendrick, Grant Eckhoff, Tim Elliott, Chris Zaruba, Tim Whelan, Jeff McKay, Karen Wilson, Gary Muehlfelt, Sal Falbo, John Monino, Nick Nathwani, as well as Marty Keller and the Milton Township Republican Central Committee?

— because I was the one who arranged for DuPage County Republicans to be the lead sponsor of the parade? – Dave Diersen
