She says those issues include Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s “overreach” by not working with the legislature to enact Covid-19 mitigation rules, passage of police-reform legislation, and signing a law that decriminalizes possession of certain amounts of fentanyl and cocaine. On the state Senate side, “More Republicans in the Cook County region are interested in running for state office than I’ve seen before,” says Senate GOP Political Director Nick McNeely. There’s no litmus test for running, but the House Republican organization is asking whether candidates believe the 2020 election was stolen. “We’re looking for people who are interested in running and who fit the constituency of their district,” said Odom. Recruiting on all fronts: Along with state House and Senate recruitment efforts, the conservative think tank Illinois Policy Institute (IPI) is scouting for candidates. Even Jeanne Ives, a former GOP state representative who in 2018 lost a congressional race, is working to get candidates to run, according to two Republican Party sources. “When you don’t have contested races, a lot of people don’t vote,” IPI’s Matt Paprocki told Playbook. He says IPI has sent out 65,000 mailers statewide to “free-market individuals, Democrats, Independents and Republicans” as part of an outreach effort to potential candidates. “We stop the engagement once they say they want to run.” (The organization, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, can’t be engaged in electioneering.) But then, my Firestone boss offered me a part-time job pumping gasoline which I accepted. Before I started working for IRS and working part-time for Firestone, I went on a spring break vacation in the Bahamas. My 1969 Dodge Charger SE was stolen in Chicago in August. That directly resulted in my buying a new 1972 Corvette and a 1962 Chevy Bel Air for everyday use. At the end of the year, IRS granted my request to be assigned to its Harvey office.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Minnesota Republican Party Chairwoman Jennifer Carnahan has presided over a toxic workplace culture and unchecked sexual harassment in the state party, according to a growing number of former staffers and activists who have leveled allegations against her. Four former executive directors of the party released a lengthy statement on Wednesday saying Carnahan “ruled by grudges, retaliation, and intimidation” in the party, often withholding prized party data to help candidates she preferred to get a “leg up.” The statement said she retaliated against those who spoke out against her, often trying to prevent former staff from getting other jobs. “Carnahan created an extremely toxic work environment, often yelling, demeaning and questioning loyalty,” the former staffers said in a joint statement. “We would be reprimanded if we did not glowingly ‘pump up’ and stroke the ego of Carnahan in our rare public appearances.” The four former executive directors — Becky Alery, Andy Aplikowski, Christine Snell and Kevin Poindexter — said they were able to speak out after the party’s Executive Board voted Sunday to void nondisclosure agreements that they said Carnahan used to silence staff.
