In a broadcast of his Honestly Speaking radio show on Thursday, Skelton Cline alleged that COI attorney Bilal Rawat’s pattern of questions about his interactions with the government was meant to be malicious. Skelton Cline said he felt it was ludicrous and outlandish of the COI attorney to suggest in his questions that he (Skelton Cline) and the former Communication & Works Minister, Mark Vanterpool were the ones unilaterally making decisions regarding the controversial Cruise Pier Project. The Auditor General’s report on the project is heavily referenced in the COI and has been the basis of most of the questions. — LOOK WHO’s TALKING FOR THE GOP Illinois GOP Chairman Don Tracy sent a letter to Republican leaders Monday expressing frustration that MSNBC, CNN and local media turn to Republican consultants who “trash” other Republicans. “When they are listed as current or former party officials, it falsely gives the impression that these people are speaking for all Republicans in Illinois or the Chicago area,” according to Tracy’s email, obtained by Playbook. He doesn’t name names but it’s not hard to figure out that former state GOP Chairman Pat Brady doesn’t mince words about far-right Republicans when he’s interviewed by reporters. Tracy is the first downstate chairman of the Illinois GOP in more than 30 years. He lives in Springfield, three hours from Chicago, making it difficult to accommodate live broadcasts. So he’s now assigning two surrogate Republicans in northern Illinois, Kathleen Murphy and Ammie Kessem, to represent the party during TV interviews when he can’t make it. The issue is the surrogates tapped align better with Republicans south of I-80 than those in the Chicago area. Murphy is the former spokeswoman for former GOP gubernatorial candidate Jeanne Ives and a defender of Ives’ controversial TV ad attacking Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner’s record by featuring actors playing out sensitive cultural issues. It was uniformly criticized, including by the state GOP, for being racist, sexist and homophobic. Kessem, the 41st Ward GOP committeewoman, is a Chicago Police sergeant and avowed Donald Trump supporter. In an interview with Playbook, Tracy said that Murphy and Kessem “aren’t going out there to represent themselves. They are there to represent the Illinois GOP.” They will both work closely with Illinois GOP communication director Joe Hackler. “I don’t represent any wing of the party. I represent the entire Republican Party. And they will do the same,” Tracy said. Though Tracy’s TV accessibility to Chicago may be a challenge, the real problem for the GOP is handling the tension between moderate Republicans (generally in the northern part of the state) and those who align with Trumpism downstate. Party leaders kept quiet, for example, when asked to address controversial Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene coming to Illinois to stump for GOP Rep. Mary Miller. Along with backing up Tracy on TV, the GOP is working to expand its roster of voices to include women and minorities who can speak for the party. Tracy’s letter has already generated interest. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Over 500 came to Wheaton’s beautiful Memorial Park on Saturday, September 11, 2004, to meet Alan Keyes and to hear his remarks concerning Patriot Day and his campaign. Alan was warmly received by the crowd which gave him several standing ovations during his 20-minute speech. State Senators Kirk Dillard and Peter Roskam served as Master of Ceremonies. Senator Dillard introduced the elected officials and candidates who were on the band shell stage with Alan while he gave his speech — State Senator Raymond Soden, State Representative Randy Hultgren, State Representative Candidate Roger Jenisch, DuPage County Board Commissioner Debra Olson, DuPage Coroner candidate Peter Siekmann, Illinois GOP State Central Committeeman Ron Smith, Milton Township Assessor Jim Gumm, and Milton Township Trustee Don Sender. The band shell stage is the same one that Bob Dole gave a speech from immediately after he walked in Wheaton’s 1996 Independence Day Parade — CNN broadcast that speech live. Senator Dillard recognized event attendees including DuPage County Auditor Jim Rasins, DuPage County Regional Superintendent of Schools Darlene Ruscitti, DuPage Regional School Board Trustee Tim Whelan, and District 89 School Board Trustee Howard Levine. He recognized the event’s sponsors — State Farm Insurance Agent Mark Prutzman, Oberweis Dairy, John Cox, All Star Printing, himself, Randy Hultgren, Debra Olson, Pete Siekmann, Tim Whelan, Don Sender, and Diersen Consulting. Senator Roskam gave some remarks concerning September 11 and he introduced Alan. Apparently, even though the Daily Herald, the Wheaton Leader, and the Wheaton Sun had been asked to cover the event, the only reporters who covered the event were Rich Samuels with WTTW’s Chicago Tonight and Dave Diersen with GOPUSA.com. Samuels and Diersen made VHS recordings of Alan’s speech. Event photographers included Matt Ferguson and Don Sender. The free event provided attendees with a great opportunity to enjoy great food, to meet their neighbors, to meet their elected officials, and to meet candidates who will appear on November 2 ballots in DuPage County. On July 5 last year, 200 attended a similar event in Wheaton’s Prairie Path Park, including Jack Ryan, Jim Oberweis, Andy McKenna, Chirinjeev Kathuria, and John Cox. Attendees at this year’s event enjoyed hot dogs and Polish sausages personally handed out by Debbie Malek from her cart. The vast majority of the attendees at Wheaton’s Patriot Day picnic were conservative Republicans — why didn’t more Democrats and RINOs attend? A number of Democrats told me that they would not attend because they are Democrats and because their attendance might be misinterpreted as support for President Bush.
