(FROM THE ARTICLE: The usually sedate Illinois Tollway board’s monthly meeting erupted in controversy on Thursday, when the agency’s executive director accused a board member of threatening her. Board member Joseph Gomez, an appointee of Gov. Bruce Rauner and the senior vice president of Byline Bank, told the board that Tollway Executive Director Liz Gorman had refused to meet with him one-on-one before the meeting. Gorman told the board that she refused the meeting because of threats Gomez had made against her. “I feel uncomfortable and very threatened,” Gorman said. She said she had been willing to meet with Gomez with someone else present, but Gomez declined. The dispute between Gomez and Gorman comes at a time of increased scrutiny of Tollway operations. On Tuesday, members of the state Senate Transportation Committee questioned Tollway officials about contracts awarded to firms with political connections or ties to the agency. After Thursday’s meeting, Gorman told reporters the threats were “verbal” but declined to elaborate further, telling reporters they could request information under the Freedom of Information Act. Gomez denied Gorman’s charge and said he had not spoken to Gorman before Thursday morning. A former Republican Cook County commissioner, Gorman was named executive director in February. “I don’t know what she’s talking about,” Gomez told reporters after the meeting, noting that he had voted to approve her appointment.)

— MARCH 9, 2018 FLASHBACK: Reading Your Corvette After a Long Storage – James Berry (DIERSEN: After not starting it since 2009, my 1972 Chevy Corvette, with only 5,081 miles on it, is at D & M Corvette in Downers Grove. My excuse for not starting the car and not driving it each summer is my spending 10+ hours each and every day putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out. In addition, since 2005, I have had a 2005 Corvette to drive; since 2012, a 2013 Dodge Charger R/T Max to drive; and since 2016, a 2016 Ford Mustang to drive. The carburetor is being rebuilt today. So far, D & M has replaced the car’s 5 tires with correct Firestone Wide Oval White Letter replica tires from Coker Tire, replaced all four calipers, replaced the master brake cylinder and fuel pump, fixed a fuel leak, fixed a passenger door latch problem, installed a new battery, changed the oil and filter, etc. D & M has not yet checked A/C and or taken it on a test drive. After investing all this money in the car, I am increasing its stated value insurance from $30,000 to $35,000. From now on, I will start and drive the car at least once each summer. The car is a Steel Cities Gray Coupe with the base 350 engine, automatic, power steering, A/C, black leather seats, AM/FM stereo radio, and heavy duty battery. The VIN is 1Z37K2S503860. I ordered the car in August of 1971 after my 1969 Dodge Charger SE was stolen in Chicago. I paid for the car with the $2,500 insurance settlement, $500 from my savings, and a $3,000 from a car loan. I took delivery on October 14, 1971. I paid the car loan off with money that I earned working for IRS full-time and working for Firestone Stores part-time. I stored the car in my mother’s garage in Crete 1971-1984 and in my attached, insulated, and heated garage in Wheaton since then, and since 1995, on a hydraulic lift. Money Magazine’s February 1978 “one person’s finances” article on me mentioned the car and included a picture of the car with me in it.)

(FROM THE EDITORIAL: When it comes to internet shenanigans at election time, the Russians don’t have the market cornered. A few members of the U.S. Congress — Democrats and Republicans — have set up “fake news” websites designed to sway voters in their direction so they can win re-election. Not cool. Tim Johnson of the McClatchy News Service reported that three sitting senators who are in the midst of tough re-election campaigns and one House member have created sites that look like internet news pages, but their aim is to put positive spin on the candidates. For example, Nevada Republican Sen. Deal Heller’s website, NevadaSenateUpdates.com, even has weather and calendar widgets on the top of its page, just like those of a conventional newspaper website. The “paid for by Heller for Senate” is in dim gray type on a black bar at the bottom, Johnson reported. On the other side of the aisle is a the faux internet news site put up by the Missouri Democratic Party — The Missouri Download — to promote the re-election chances of Sen. Claire McCaskill. Johnson reports that its declaimer is almost impossible to read. According to election watchdog groups, these are not isolated incidents, but a troubling trend. “These websites are designed with one thing in mind: to trick the reader into thinking they’re a legitimate news source. And anyone who says otherwise is being disingenuous. A label tucked at the bottom of a web page isn’t enough,” said Aaron Sharockman, executive director of PolitiFact, a fact-checking website. Brendan Fischer, of the Campaign Legal Center, a nonpartisan group on campaign finance and democracy issues, agreed. “You’d have to scroll all the way to the bottom and read the fine print to learn that these sites are actually generated by partisan political actors who are trying to win an election,” Fischer said, adding that structure of the websites indicates that “there is a degree of trust in the news media, and that’s why these candidates and parties are trying to emulate traditional news media sites.” While these campaign websites aren’t illegal, as the source and campaign information are included (albeit it in teeny-tiny print), there are certainly deceitful. All voters — Democrats, Republicans and independents — should be irked. Voters deserve better. Those in office, or seeking office, should want to get information out to the public that is positive to their campaigns and that costs doubts on their opponents. But this must be done in the open. When creating websites for these political purposes, make it crystal clear — in bright, big and bold letters — who is responsible for the content. Then the voters can judge for themselves the credibility. If the public doesn’t push back now on this dubious tactic, the proliferation will continue. It must stop.)

On Monday, there was yet another display that their top boss is hopelessly unsuited for the White House with President Trump’s obsequious behavior in front of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump undermined federal employees who reported Putin’s attack on the 2016 presidential election. On Tuesday, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee approved two measures that would speed the firing of feds by weakening civil service protections. On Thursday, the House effectively dumped on raising pay for federal employees in 2019 by passing an appropriations bill that included no increase. While the workforce and the rest of us are stuck with Trump for at least two more years, the House actions are not the final word on pay and disciplinary measures. . .House Republicans also don’t care for the current level of federal employees’ civil service protections. Two bills approved by the Oversight Committee with party-line votes would allow management to fire feds faster by weakening their workplace due-process rights. The measures require full House and Senate action before becoming law. One bill would accelerate disciplinary procedures, including termination, by cutting time allowed for appeals. The general probationary period for feds would double to two years, allowing more time to take disciplinary action against new employees who have fewer rights. Another piece of legislation would lower the burden of proof that managers need to fire workers, among other provisions. “Working for the United States federal government is an honor and a privilege, and most federal employees value the opportunity and work hard to serve the American people,” Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) said following the committee vote. “However, some federal employees have learned they can use the system to protect their jobs regardless of their poor performance or bad behavior.” He called the committee’s action “a huge step to creating a more efficient and effective government that works for the people, streamlining the process and lessening the time it takes to dismiss poor performing or negligent employees.” Rep. For some reason, whites allowed others to come in to this country who would turn around and betray them! Reportedly, whites will soon be a minority in their own country! If we allow the vilification and replacement of whites to continue, then our country will become a ghetto. We will see more black-on-white crime, more laws against Christians and men, a total loss of freedom, and destruction of communities. Mark my words, if we don’t stop this attack upon white people, we will become like South Africa where black communists seek to take white farmers’ private land without compensation. Blacks hunt down, torture and kill white farmers, including women and children – and murder one another in the townships. Riots and destruction of property are the norm. Families are destroyed, the economy is hurting, disease is rampant, and there’s a lack of morality or responsibility among the people. We caught a glimpse of this in America under President Obama, the worst and most hated president the country ever experienced. He brought the radical hate group Black Lives Matter and other evil people to the White House regularly. He sowed division, hatred and suspicion toward whites, police, Christians, business owners and men. Race riots, targeted cop killings, and black-on-black murder all increased because he validated criminals and thugs while demonizing and marginalizing the good people. Thankfully, white men and women, and a growing number of “people of color,” woke up and supported the Great White Hope, President Trump. He’s working overtime to Make America Great Again. He’s sending the illegals back, not falling for the media propaganda about the “children” whom criminal adults intentionally brought here. He’s building a big beautiful wall on the border. He gives no play to Black Lives Matter and antifa (Occupy Wall Street communists). Trump is a man of courage and action, with love for the country and no fear. He’s from the old school! Men of other races have been destroyed. Now evil seeks to destroy white men. Although most are still conservative, they’ve grown very weak, afraid to stand up for themselves and what’s right. Their parents let them down. They should watch and learn from the president. On my daily call-in show on Newsmax TV and YouTube, I greet people, “Happy White History Month!” I offer the same wishes while going about my day at the gym, the bank, post office and gas station – “Happy White History Month!” Some are grateful. Most react with laughter, confusion or anger. Many believed that “white history” was observed “every day,” but it’s not – whites are only cast negatively by the children of the lie. Some friends and callers express concern for my safety, fearing a violent backlash against White History Month. We should be wary of violent leftists and white haters, given the incitement by anti-Trump agitators like Maxine Waters (the Wicked Witch of the West), corrupt government officials, media and Hollywood. There are places where it’s not safe to be an open Trump supporter. But the children of the lie proudly tout their beliefs with no sense of shame for being wrong – they’re in your face promoting evil! If you are a child of God, you have no fear. Perfect love, the nature of God, drives out fear. But if you have fear, you are still of your father the devil. In counseling and talking with people, I notice most men and women have fear. Men are afraid to deal with their wives. Grown men and women are afraid to face their mothers and be honest with them! Where does fear come from? Anger and unforgiveness. Unless you forgive, you will not be forgiven. And you will have all of the children of anger: fear, doubt, insecurity and suicidal thoughts. So forgive and be free! The drama marked the latest sign of an increasingly fractured relationship Lauzen has with many board members. Less than a week ago, he spoke with confidence about a second vote approving his reimbursement request. That vote became necessary after an opinion from State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said Lauzen cast an improper vote to break a 10-10 tie on the reimbursement last month. Lauzen began his speech Tuesday with a highlight reel of accomplishments during his tenure. Those include extending a property tax levy freeze in place since the year before he took office through the 2016 budget year. Also mentioned were a 65 percent reduction in county debt and the coming completion of projects, such as the Longmeadow Parkway and the cross-country course at the former Settlers Hill Landfill. Given those results, Lauzen said, he expected to be “given even more latitude to produce even more good.” Instead, the reimbursement denial comes as more “destructive nitpicking” to stand in the way of progress, Lauzen said. Turning over his plans to create new, nontax income for the county with a waste-to-fuel facility, expansion of the county’s fiber optic network leasing, and promoting the use of county infrastructure for cellphone amplification has gone nowhere, he said. “I would ask you to examine your public service you produced for your $25,000 salary,” Lauzen said. “What positive contribution are you making? What progress has been made? I’ll void the check and not accept it, and then we’re going to be finished with the stuff.” Lauzen then shredded what appeared to be the reimbursement check.)

As a legal immigrant brought to the United States from Germany at a young age by my parents, I and many legal immigrants who waited sometimes years to obtain the necessary visa for entry resent those who merely walk across our border and claim to be “immigrants.” An immigrant is one who seeks and gains approval to enter, while invaders disrespect our laws put in place by “We the people.” Currently the Democratic Party, under the leadership of Tom Perez, a Marxist, and Keith Ellison, a Muslim Brotherhood operative, have been campaigning for open borders. They have resisted President Trump’s border enforcement, and many others are now calling for the abolishment of ICE (Immigration Custom Enforcement). One only has to look at crime statistics committed by illegals to see a glimpse of what a borderless United States holds for us. The Daily Wire reported that 92 percent of confirmed aliens in Federal Bureau of Prisons custody are illegals and that 97 percent of confirmed aliens in the U.S. Marshal Service custody are illegals. Furthermore, 21 percent of those convicted of non-immigration crimes were non-citizens and 2.5 times their share of the population. The Government Accountability Office reported in 2011 that there were 251,000 criminal aliens in federal, state, and local prisons. Those aliens represented nearly three million criminal offenses, which ranged from homicide and kidnappings to drugs, burglary, and larceny. These criminal offenses would not have occurred here had these criminals been prevented from gaining a foothold into our home and thousands of lives would not have been lost.)
