Meanwhile, the full House will vote today on a measure to remove Greene from her committee assignments. Closer to home, members of the LaSalle County Republican Central Committee voted 88 percent in favor of censuring Kinzinger, Chairman Larry Smith said in a statement Wednesday night. Two reasons were cited for censure: Kinzinger has not met with the La Salle Republican in over six years and that he was one of 10 Republican representatives to call for impeachment. The censure disavows Kinzinger “for acting contrary to the values” of La Salle County Republicans, Smith said. A similar resolution for censure is being presented to the Winnebago County Republican Central Committee, reports the Rockford Register Star. At their regular monthly meeting in Ottawa, committeemen repeatedly noted Kinzinger was one of only 10 Republican House members who voted with Democrats to impeach Trump, and the Congressman has not met with the central committee for more than six years. “Congressman Kinzinger’s actions and statements against former President Trump have opened a Pandora’s Box of criticism,” said Larry Smith, the county’s GOP chair, in a prepared statement. “The LaSalle County Republicans have received hundreds upon hundreds of emails, text messages, and phone calls from our county and beyond expressing their frustration and a lot more with Congressman Kinzinger’s actions and statements the past few months,” said Smith. “Many have been very direct that their support for the Republican Party is over if Congressman Kinzinger’s behavior isn’t addressed,” Smith also said. Smith claims more than 40 county Republican Central Committees statewide have given their “unsolicited support” for the censure. But no “insurrection” means no “incitement,” and that would mean no impeachment. The articles of impeachment are themselves a charade. As Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul stated on the Senate floor — and to which 44 other Republican senators agreed — the Constitution simply does not authorize Congress to take the action contemplated by an impeachment trial against a private citizen. Only a sitting president can be “removed,” and Donald Trump is no longer the president of the United States. Further, the U.S. Supreme Court announced that Chief Justice John Roberts will not preside over an impeachment trial in the Senate — another blow to those who claim that such a “trial” on the House’s single impeachment charge is legitimate. Finally, the 44 GOP senators who voted in favor of Paul’s procedural motion prove that the 50 Democratic senators will not get the additional 17 Republicans they need for a two-thirds majority to convict. So, the impeachment shtick isn’t about removing a man who is already gone, and it isn’t really about getting a conviction either. It’s more — and more extreme — political theater. If that’s not bad enough, the country is also struggling to recover from months of COVID lockdowns. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio described the impeachment charge as “stupid” and a waste of time. And it gets much worse. The target of the “insurrection” propaganda campaign is not so much Donald Trump as it is the 74 million-plus people who voted for him. Americans were stunned when Hillary Clinton referred to only half of Donald Trump’s supporters as a “basket of deplorables” in 2016. But Trump had millions more supporters in 2020, and now all of them are being demonized by Democrats and their mouthpieces in the media as threats, as “seditionists” and “white supremacists” who need to be “deprogrammed,” “reprogrammed,” imprisoned in “reeducation camps” or subjected to “Nuremburg trials.” These are not isolated remarks by fringe elements; they are comments made by “mainstream” Democratic voices: Washington Post correspondent Eugene Robinson, media darling Katie Couric, MSNBC anchor Don Lemon, actor Jon Cryer, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Comments on these articles and tweets — made by non-famous, left-leaning Americans — are even worse. This is beyond political difference. It is a sickness.)

In fact, I have always hated the whole chickenhawk thing, the idea that, rather than military service being a character resume plus, its absence is a minus and some sort of character flaw. Only about 30% of people can qualify physically and otherwise for service, so right off you are consigning about 70% of folks to some sort of second-hand moral status. That’s stupid. Further, the idea that an American citizen who did not serve has some sort of disqualification from opining on military issues is utterly unAmerican. . .This was demonstrated with the whole “Cadet Bone Spurs” thing about Donald Trump. The “cadet” part relates to him having gone to military school, which I guess the New Rules decree is something to be ashamed of now. As with shifting attitude toward the National Guard troops from violent threats to the literal safety of oppressed people to heroic defenders of the country from Thor-wannabes to tiresome eyesores to be consigned to a Congressional parking garage, you need constant updates on whether military stuff is good or bad at any given moment. Anyway, the “Bone Spurs” part was the medical diagnosis that kept Trump from draft eligibility. For some reason, this diagnosis strikes people who have never had to do a long ruck march over rough terrain with half their body weight on their backs as hilarious. . .Trump got four student deferments as an undergrad. Then the Army – not anyone else – decided he as not physically fit for military service. No shock – go to a MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station), tell the doc you have bone spurs on your paws, and see how fast you get transferred back to Fort Living Room. . .And here’s another thing, and maybe I’m a bit technical, but Trump was never drafted. So, it’s kind of hard to “dodge the draft” when you weren’t drafted. Draft dodgers typically got their induction notices and split to Manitoba. That was draft dodging – and St. Jimmy Carter pardoned them all, so it’s weird that draft dodging is now bad again. As you hear his reply, ask yourself: is this the guy you want in charge of preventing domestic terrorism? Here’s how he responded, quote: “Do I want to see increased monitoring of the types of violent extremist domestic terrorists that attacked the Capitol leaving five people dead, including a police officer? Absolutely. The real question is why Tucker Carlson is okay with their deaths?” Right. So if you have questions about handing Brad Schneider, whoever that guy is, the keys to your country, voiding the Bill of Rights because Brad Schneider demands that you do after the insurrection on January 6th, then you’re killing police officers. You want people to die and maybe you need your civil liberties taken away. We’ll see. Now if this all sounds familiar, it is because every time something horrible happens, creepy little demagogues like Brad Schneider rush to the microphone and tell you, I’m sorry, you can’t be free anymore. It happened after 9/11. 9/11? What does it have to do with January 6th? It seems like kind of an odd comparison. In fact, so disproportionate it’s laughable and offensive to the 3,000 people who died on 9/11. But Members of Congress are invoking anyway, by the way, from both parties. In the same briefing where Brad Schneider gave his stupid and scary opinions, another Member of Congress, a former F.B.I. agent called Brian Fitzpatrick said we must adopt the same attitude toward domestic terrorism that we had toward al Qaeda after 9/11.)
