https://www.warner.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/2018/7/on-senate-floor-sen-warner-speaks-out-for-the-federal-workforce
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Today, U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA), Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, spoke on the floor of the U.S. Senate in support of the federal workforce, which has been subjected to unprecedented attacks under the Trump Administration. “The way our federal government treats its workforce, the way we manage and invest in the human capital of our federal government is not some kind of parochial issue. This is an issue that impacts all American who pay their taxes, follow the laws, and expect their federal government to work for them, and to work well,” Sen. Warner said on the Senate floor. “That’s why, Mr. President, I also rise with great concern about the recent efforts by this Administration to scapegoat and undermine the work of our public servants. It started with the hiring freezes that threw a wrench into the day-to-day operations of nearly every federal agency — with no apparent benefit to the taxpayers. It continued with executive orders undermining workplace protections for federal workers and their ability to organize as part of a union. And it culminated last month, with the Trump Administration’s plan to freeze federal employee pay and cut retirement benefits for 2.6 million federal retirees and survivors. This is the thanks our federal employees get for their service!” On May 4, OPM Director Jeff Pon outlined an Administration plan to freeze federal employee pay and cut retirement benefits for 2.6 million federal retirees and survivors. On May 25, President Trump signed three Executive Orders that would roll back protections for our federal workforce by making it easier to fire federal employees, restricting time employees can be compensated for union work and directing agencies to negotiate tougher union contracts. Today is the first day of oral arguments in a lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, challenging the executive orders.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Illinois Tollway boss Liz Gorman alleges threats from board member Joseph Gomez – Mary Wisniewski
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-biz-tollway-board-threats-20180726-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The usually sedate Illinois Tollway board’s monthly meeting erupted in controversy on Thursday, when the agency’s executive director accused a board member of threatening her. Board member Joseph Gomez, an appointee of Gov. Bruce Rauner and the senior vice president of Byline Bank, told the board that Tollway Executive Director Liz Gorman had refused to meet with him one-on-one before the meeting. Gorman told the board that she refused the meeting because of threats Gomez had made against her. “I feel uncomfortable and very threatened,” Gorman said. She said she had been willing to meet with Gomez with someone else present, but Gomez declined. The dispute between Gomez and Gorman comes at a time of increased scrutiny of Tollway operations. On Tuesday, members of the state Senate Transportation Committee questioned Tollway officials about contracts awarded to firms with political connections or ties to the agency. After Thursday’s meeting, Gorman told reporters the threats were “verbal” but declined to elaborate further, telling reporters they could request information under the Freedom of Information Act. Gomez denied Gorman’s charge and said he had not spoken to Gorman before Thursday morning. A former Republican Cook County commissioner, Gorman was named executive director in February. “I don’t know what she’s talking about,” Gomez told reporters after the meeting, noting that he had voted to approve her appointment.)

(FROM THE POSTING: Congressman Keith Ellison — a good friend of Jew hating, anti-white Louis Farrakhan — is demanding Amazon ban the Freedom Center from selling our books and pamphlets. Worse, he’s using the Southern Poverty Law Center’s so-called “hate list” to fuel this baseless attack. . .You and I both know that the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is just a vehicle for the radical Left to bully conservatives into submission and suppress free speech. If they see you as an enemy of the Leftist agenda, they label you a hate group no matter what you actually stand for. And now, a member of Congress is acting as their middle man and demanding the largest digital outlet for book sales censor us. This is straight out of Saul Alinsky’s playbook, and we must act now.)

Many of the biggest names in the Trump administration and conservative activist circles, including Attorney General Jeff Sessions (who echoed the crowd’s chants of “lock her up” during his speech to the conference on Tuesday), former White House spokesman Sean Spicer, Donald Trump Jr. and billionaire Mark Cuban, led sessions at the conference about battling liberal college bias, opposing big government, protecting the Second Amendment and promoting free markets. SUPER CHEVY
— MARCH 9, 2018 FLASHBACK: Reading Your Corvette After a Long Storage – James Berry (DIERSEN: After not starting it since 2009, my 1972 Chevy Corvette, with only 5,081 miles on it, is at D & M Corvette in Downers Grove. My excuse for not starting the car and not driving it each summer is my spending 10+ hours each and every day putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out. In addition, since 2005, I have had a 2005 Corvette to drive; since 2012, a 2013 Dodge Charger R/T Max to drive; and since 2016, a 2016 Ford Mustang to drive. The carburetor is being rebuilt today. So far, D & M has replaced the car’s 5 tires with correct Firestone Wide Oval White Letter replica tires from Coker Tire, replaced all four calipers, replaced the master brake cylinder and fuel pump, fixed a fuel leak, fixed a passenger door latch problem, installed a new battery, changed the oil and filter, etc. D & M has not yet checked A/C and or taken it on a test drive. After investing all this money in the car, I am increasing its stated value insurance from $30,000 to $35,000. From now on, I will start and drive the car at least once each summer. The car is a Steel Cities Gray Coupe with the base 350 engine, automatic, power steering, A/C, black leather seats, AM/FM stereo radio, and heavy duty battery. The VIN is 1Z37K2S503860. I ordered the car in August of 1971 after my 1969 Dodge Charger SE was stolen in Chicago. I paid for the car with the $2,500 insurance settlement, $500 from my savings, and a $3,000 from a car loan. I took delivery on October 14, 1971. I paid the car loan off with money that I earned working for IRS full-time and working for Firestone Stores part-time. I stored the car in my mother’s garage in Crete 1971-1984 and in my attached, insulated, and heated garage in Wheaton since then, and since 1995, on a hydraulic lift. Money Magazine’s February 1978 “one person’s finances” article on me mentioned the car and included a picture of the car with me in it.)

Because GAO was not unionized, my Democrat GAO superiors were able to force me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, to give me unfair performance expectations and appraisals (especially in 1989), to always rank me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, to not promote me beyond GS-13, to get rid of my mentor in 1987, to keep me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and to force me to take an $19,203 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980.)
https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/unions-seek-end-trump-executive-orders-on-federal-employee-work-rules/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: On May 25, Trump signed the orders that included provisions that make it easier to fire federal employees; prohibit an employee’s ability to file a grievance over a poor performance rating; lessen the time union representatives will be able to act on a member’s behalf during work hours, and set time limits for labor negotiations. In addition, performance would become a more important factor than seniority when it comes to layoffs. . .Bob Reiter, head of the Chicago Federation of Labor, said the orders — especially limiting the interactions of union members during work hours — show the hypocrisy of the president. “You can’t say you’re for the American worker, it’s a complete joke. To use President Trump’s words: Sad,” Reiter said Wednesday at a news conference held at the CFL’s downtown office. National Treasury Employees Union attorney Michael J. McAuley said what many people may not know about the federal unions is that no one is forced to join and that federal unions don’t bargain over pay, retirement or health insurance benefits, which are all decided by Congress. Federal unions handle mostly working conditions and due process related issues. What the executive orders are really about, according to McAuley: “They want to take the unions and decrease their powers significantly so our membership is intimidated and afraid and finds us irrelevant so that when it comes time to go to the polls … we don’t have the ability to deliver our membership’s votes,” he said.)

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/07/brauner-most-conspicuous-of-governors-struggling-in-2018.html

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The man in most dire straits at present is Illinois Republican governor Bruce Rauner, whose second-quarter approval ratio is 27/60 — third-worst in the country, behind term-limited Republican Mary Fallin of Oklahoma and retiring Democrat Dan Malloy of Connecticut. Rauner’s popularity has not improved a whit since his very narrow March primary win over little-known conservative legislator Jeanne Ives. And his fabulous wealth won’t save him against his even more fabulously wealthy Democratic opponent, J.B. Pritzker (who outspent the incumbent by a $20.1 million to $7.8 million margin in the second quarter). Aside from his poor numbers (in both approval ratings and horse-race polls), Rauner must also deal with a minor-party conservative candidate sure to deny him some votes, particularly given his rare-for-a-Republican pro-choice stance.)

They would not have done that if I had been a Democrat, a minority, a female, or a veteran.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/lifestyles/ct-rich-people-prefer-grey-poupon-white-people-own-pets-cultural-divide-20180724-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The cultural divide is real, and it’s huge. Americans live such different lives that what we buy, do or watch can be used to predict our politics, race, income, education and gender – sometimes with more than 90 percent accuracy. It turns out that people are separated not just by gun ownership, religion and their beliefs on affirmative action – but also by English muffins, flashlights and mustard. To prove it, University of Chicago economists Marianne Bertrand and Emir Kamenica taught machines to guess a person’s income, political ideology, race, education and gender based on either their media habits, their consumer behavior, their social and political beliefs, and even how they spent their time. Their results were released in a new working paper from the National Bureau of Economic Research. The duo trained their algorithms to detect patterns in decades of responses to three long-running surveys, each with between 669 and 22,093 responses per year. The surveys were tuned and filtered to be consistent over time, which allowed Bertrand and Kamenica to measure how America’s cultural divides have evolved. . .But others are revelatory: White people and black people are almost as different in their spending habits as rich people and poor people are, for example. Differences in social attitudes between liberals and conservatives have been widened over time, Bertrand and Kamenica found. The gap in social attitudes between whites and nonwhites has fallen slightly, but the difference in consumer behavior between races has grown.)

(FROM THE MEDIA ADVISORY: On Wednesday evening, the Cook County Republican Central Committee is scheduled to vote on a proposal by Chairman Sean Morrison to admit Democrats into leadership positions in several Republican ward organizations. The proposal would eliminate the provision in the bylaws that say that individuals may not have voted Democrat in the last three cycles to hold the office of Republican ward committeeman. In 2016, several life-long Democrats, some affiliated with the local Alderman, ran for office as Republican ward committeemen and were disqualified by the bylaws. Chairman Morrison has stated that he intends to seat them anyway. The controversial proposal is strongly opposed by a large number of Chicago Republican committeemen who have said they intend to boycott the meeting. The proposal has also drawn strong opposition from the chairman of the Chicago GOP, Chris Cleveland. Cleveland’s statement on the matter is below. The meeting will be held at: Gene & Georgetti’s Restaurant in Rosemont Wednesday, July 25 7:30 pm The meeting is open to the public.)

Pritzker, the wealthy Democratic challenger, is using his money to also help bankroll Democratic candidates and campaign committees to respond to Rauner’s past funding practices.)

— ‘THE NEW GILDED AGE’ ILLINOIS INCOME INEQUALITY TOPS NATIONAL AVERAGE – Ted Cox (DIERSEN: From what I see, there is an above average disparity in income and in housing values in my precinct.)
https://www.oneillinois.com/stories/2018/7/23/the-new-gilded-age
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois was one of eight states to top that disparity, but it was closest to the national average. In Illinois, the average income for the top 1 percent was $1.4 million, 27 times greater than the average salary for the other 99 percent: $52,000. It took income of $421,000 to make the top 1 percent nationally, $456,000 in Illinois. Lake County was among the top counties in the nation for what it takes to make the top 1 percent of residents, with a threshold of $994,000, 18th in the United States. The average income for the top 1 percent there was $3.1 million, 37.4 times greater than the average salary for the other 99 percent of $83,000. Even among the very rich, Illinois held its own. The study found that, of all income going to the top 1 percent nationally, half that figure was accrued by families in five states: California, New York, Texas, Florida, and Illinois. Frank Manzo IV, of the Illinois Economic Policy Institute, which is not affiliated with the national organization, said the data match his for Illinois. According to Manzo, 57,421 Illinois tax filers topped $500,000 in income in 2015, slightly more than 1 percent of the 5,667,344 total. With an average income of $1.56 million, they claimed 21.7 percent of all adjusted gross income statewide.)

CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
— Why we published an all-woman Tech 50 list – Editorial (DIERSEN: When will Crain’s publish all-woman and all-minority federal government 50 lists? Since the 1960s, the federal government’s top priority has been a) to hire, retain, and promote young Democrat women and young Democrat minorities and b) to make way for them by wasting the careers of and by getting rid of its employees who are Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran who did not make GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40.)
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20180720/ISSUE07/180719833
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: Our 2011 Small Business Week coverage featured the Tech 25, a list of the people propelling the growth of technology entrepreneurship in Chicago. Howard Tullman was there, as CEO of his Flashpoint Media Arts Academy, since this was before he would go on to help create the 1871 Chicago startup hub. So were Sam Yagan, then co-founder of OKCupid, as well as Obama for America veteran Harper Reed and Lightbank partner Paul Lee, to name a few. We’ve since expanded the feature to an annual list of the 50 tech people you need to know now, and we’ve embraced founders of large companies as well as small ones while sprinkling in more financiers, heavyweights, connectors, dreamers, gurus and coders. Over the years, Crain’s technology reporter John Pletz, thanks to his deep and wide knowledge of the sector, has done an incredible job of producing each year’s list, keeping it fresh with new, diverse names while burnishing readers’ understanding of the perennial power players who have remained relevant year in, year out. This year, however, the editors threw John a curveball. With our ongoing Woman Up Project in mind, we asked him to create an all-female Tech 50 for 2018.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: “Check this out if you wonder why Illinois politicians are often a national joke. How can Willie Wilson, a candidate for Mayor of Chicago, literally hand out CASH at a public event? This is so wrong!” tweeted, Republican state Rep. David McSweeney.)
— Seating squabble: Thursday’s Lincoln Forum debate between Republican Rep. Peter Roskam and Democratic challenger Sean Casten is sold out. The event was only supposed to have 100 audience guests, ideally supporters evenly split between the two candidates. But when tickets went on sale, Casten’s supporters gobbled them up. Lincoln Forum co-founders Pat Brady, the former state GOP chairman, and Eric Adelstein, a Dem strategist, decided out of fairness to sell an additional 70 tickets to Roskam supporters. “The Lincoln Forum is nonpartisan and we have a duty to have a balanced room,” Brady said. – Shia Kapos (DIERSEN: I should write a book about the two times that Pat Brady spoke at TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois meetings.)

UNION LEADER
— Unions support workers – RICHARD BACKUS, New Boston (DIERSEN: IRS’s and GAO’s 40-hour work week and annual leave policies helped me to a) earn an MBA from Loyola in 1976, b) pass the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979, c) earn a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980, d) pass the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt in 1981, and e) earn a master’s degree in financial markets and trading in 1997.)
http://www.unionleader.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20180718/OPINION04/180719439
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Right-to-work is not what it seems. Before labor unions, factory workers toiled six days a week, 12 hours a day. They often worked alongside children as young as 5 years old. Pay was terrible; there were no health benefits or pensions. It was the unions that gave us the 5-day, 40-hour work week, pensions, and other benefits. It was the unions that gave us the shared prosperity of the 1940s and ‘50s. Since then the unions have been under attack, to the point where we have the unconscionable situation of full-time workers at Walmart needing to go on welfare. Gov. Chris Sununu is a champion of “right-to-work” legislation. And now, in Janus vs. AFCSME, the Supreme Court (with Neil Gorsuch on the bench) has said it’s okay for employees not to contribute union dues. The phrase “right-to-work” sounds innocent enough, but make no mistake, it intends to weaken unions and increase corporate profits. We now have the most unequal society since the Gilded Age of the 1890s. And Republicans, the party of the 1 percent, as the recent tax bill demonstrated, have already signaled they are coming after Medicare and Social Security. If you care about fairness, equity, and a society that works for everyone, vote accordingly in November.)

WASHINGTON POST
— DIERSEN HEADLINE: An anti-Trump says “House provides no 2019 pay raise for federal employees; conflicts with Senate.” How strongly will my critics/opponent, their operatives, and their dupes in the Milton Township Republican Central Committee, DuPage County Republican Central Committee, and the Illinois Republican Party hint/imply/argue/shout that those who voted for Trump a) want Trump to get rid of past, present, and future federal employees once and for all and b) especially want Trump to get rid of me? I was a federal employee for almost 30 years and I have been a federal retiree for almost 21 years.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2018/07/20/house-provides-no-2019-pay-raise-for-feds-conflicts-with-senate/
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: It’s been a tough week for federal employees. On Monday, there was yet another display that their top boss is hopelessly unsuited for the White House with President Trump’s obsequious behavior in front of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump undermined federal employees who reported Putin’s attack on the 2016 presidential election. On Tuesday, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee approved two measures that would speed the firing of feds by weakening civil service protections. On Thursday, the House effectively dumped on raising pay for federal employees in 2019 by passing an appropriations bill that included no increase. While the workforce and the rest of us are stuck with Trump for at least two more years, the House actions are not the final word on pay and disciplinary measures. . .House Republicans also don’t care for the current level of federal employees’ civil service protections. Two bills approved by the Oversight Committee with party-line votes would allow management to fire feds faster by weakening their workplace due-process rights. The measures require full House and Senate action before becoming law. One bill would accelerate disciplinary procedures, including termination, by cutting time allowed for appeals. The general probationary period for feds would double to two years, allowing more time to take disciplinary action against new employees who have fewer rights. Another piece of legislation would lower the burden of proof that managers need to fire workers, among other provisions. “Working for the United States federal government is an honor and a privilege, and most federal employees value the opportunity and work hard to serve the American people,” Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) said following the committee vote. “However, some federal employees have learned they can use the system to protect their jobs regardless of their poor performance or bad behavior.” He called the committee’s action “a huge step to creating a more efficient and effective government that works for the people, streamlining the process and lessening the time it takes to dismiss poor performing or negligent employees.” Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (Md.) the ranking Democrat on the Oversight Committee, disagreed. The legislation “raises serious concerns about fairness and due process,” he said, adding it “will weaken merit system principles and politicize the federal workforce.”)

— Don’t Chase The Money! There Are More Important Things To Look For In A Job – Michael B. Arthur (DIERSEN: Have you taken a pay cut? I have. In 1980, when I was 31 years old, I took a $19,203 (26%) pay cut in today’s dollars (from GS-12 Step 5 down to GS-9 Step 10) to transfer from IRS to GAO. QUESTION: Why did I do that? ANSWER: GAO claimed to be nonpartisan and independent. My Democrat IRS superiors and Money Magazine had ruined my IRS career. GAO employees are somewhat less demonized, denigrated, and condemned than IRS employees are. Because GAO audits IRS, I could use my knowledge of IRS on audits of IRS. I had worked for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880. The GAO staff manager who hired me was confident that he could a) promptly get me assigned to audits of IRS and b) promptly promote me to GS-11 Step 10, currently $87,933, to GS-12 Step 5, currently $91,880, and to GS-13 Step 1, currently $96,403. But soon after I transferred to GAO, that GAO manager was deposed and he was not able to promote me to GS-11 Step 10 until 1981, to GS-12 Step 5 salary until 1982, and to GS-13 Step 1 until 1986. In 1986, he finally succeeded in getting me assigned to audits of IRS. In 1987, his Democrat superiors succeeded in forcing him to retire. To justify their forcing me to take a pay cut to transfer from IRS to GAO, my Democrat GAO superiors dismissed/belittled/badmouthed/demonized/denigrated/condemned a) my knowledge of IRS, b) my passing the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979, c) my almost completing the requirements for a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul and then my earning that degree in 1980, and d) my earning an MBA from Loyola in 1976. They would not have done that if I had been a Democrat, a minority, a female, or a veteran. Money Magazine, my Democrat superiors, GAO, IRS, and Post Office supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates, and the rest of my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always viciously demonized me, viciously denigrated me, and viciously condemned me as being overpaid.)

— Degrees of underemployment – RACHEL MUI (DIERSEN: I argue that I was underemployed my entire life, but of course, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes disagree with me. In my defense, I earned a) a job-related bachelor’s degree when I was 21 in 1970 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) a job-related professional license when I was 32. I passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979 and I passed the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt in 1981.)

FED SMITH
— GAO: VA Whistleblowers 10x More Likely to Be Disciplined Than Peers – Ian Smith (DIERSEN: Because I was a whistleblower, a) my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, gave me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, got rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $19,203 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980; b) my Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974; and c) my Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968.)

IRS. SEE: https://www.gao.gov/products/463866. Just kidding, but not completely.)

— Democrats try to rebuild the state party from the ground up – Rich Miller (DIERSEN: He who pays the piper calls the tunes. How much money has your Republican county and township/ward party organizations received this year from the Illinois Republican Party, that is, from Bruce Rauner?)
https://chicago.suntimes.com/opinion/illinois-democrats-blue-wave-rebuild-party/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: But last week, the county organization received a $5,000 check from the Rock Island County Democratic Party. Warren is one of 14 counties that received a total of more than $200,000 from the Rock Island Dems last week. Warren’s check tied with Effingham County’s for being the smallest. The Kankakee County Democrats received about $28,000. Kane County’s Dems received about $20,000. Williamson County got about $14,000. The Metro East’s Madison County Democrats have so far received the largest check in this initial round: $45,495. The Carroll County Democrats have raised an average of about $3,000 a year for the past 18 years, but they received $7,523.50 last week. As I’ve told you before, the Rock Island Democratic Party Chairman is Doug House, who also runs the Illinois Democratic County Chairs’ Association. Because state campaign finance laws allow unlimited contributions between county-level party organizations, the J.B. Pritzker campaign gave House’s Rock Island Democrats $1 million earlier this year as the first installment on its “Blue Wave Illinois 2018” program. . .Several county parties, particularly Downstate, have few actual precinct committeepersons. In Chicago and suburban Cook, precinct captains are appointed by local township and ward committeemen. They don’t have to live in the precincts assigned to them. Everywhere else, committeepersons are elected in their precincts — and it’s not easy convincing people to run for that office, particularly in overwhelmingly Republican areas. However, those county chairs can fill vacancies, and the appointed committeepersons don’t have to live in the precincts they represent, so a big push is on to get counties to a minimum level of 75 percent coverage. Some local party officials have also been told that the million-dollar contribution from Pritzker is just the first round. More party-building money is coming. By contrast, as of last week Gov. Bruce Rauner’s campaign had given a total of about $33,000 divided between nine county and township Republican organizations since the March primary. The Illinois Republican Party chipped in another $25,000 during the same time period for a handful of county organizations. J.B. Pritzker’s campaign has contributed $5.7 million to various Democratic groups and candidates since the primary, including big bucks to several suburban and Chicago political organizations. Pritzker’s campaign gave the St. Clair County Democrats $200,000 during the primary and it paid off big. Pritzker won St. Clair with 76 percent of the vote.)

— Radical idea? Alderman proposes free money for some of Chicago’s poorest – Adam Thorp (DIERSEN: How much money would it take to get you to leave your job? One could argue that in 1997 when I was 49 years old, it took only $51,864/year in today’s dollars to get me to leave my GAO job that paid $125,325/year in today’s dollars. $51,864/year is my Civil Service Retirement System pension.)

— Chicago Police Department relaxes hiring rules regarding past marijuana use – Fran Spielman (DIERSEN: One of the reasons why many millions have not and will not seek a job with the federal government is that they cannot pass a physical examination. Other reasons include a) the pay and benefits are terrible, b) the advancement opportunities are terrible, c) they lack required education, work experience, professional certifications, and/or professional licenses, d) they cannot pass an employment examination, e) they cannot pass a background investigation, f) they cannot take the demonization, denigration, and condemnation that comes with being a federal employee or federal retiree, and/or g) they are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran and they know that the federal government discriminates against the aforesaid.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: World Relief is one of nine organizations contracted by the U.S. State Department to resettle refugees. But the Trump administration has capped refugee admissions to 45,000 for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30 — the lowest figure since the Refugee Act of 1980. Advocates expect the actual number to reach roughly half that based on State Department statistics. World Relief’s suburban offices have resettled a combined 133 refugees through June. By contrast, those offices welcomed 652 refugees in fiscal 2016. More than 40 percent of this year’s refugees are from Myanmar; others are from Bhutan and Ukraine.)

He fought type 1 diabetes from age 14, worked in the office of a nasty chemical plant, almost always worked second jobs to pay the family’s bills, did not buy a new car until he was 45 and it was a bottom of the line 2-door Chevy, and died suddenly of heart failure when he was 47. DAILY SIGNAL
— Firing a Bad Federal Employee May Get a Little Easier – John York (DIERSEN: Of course, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that my Democrat superiors in the federal government took adverse actions against me BECAUSE I was a BAD employee and a) NOT because I complained about their political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation and b) NOT because I became an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged them with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation when I was 40 years old in 1988. They dismiss the fact that I earned a) a job-related bachelor’s degree when I was 21 in 1970 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) a job-related professional license when I was 32. They dismiss the fact that IRS promoted me to GS-12 (currently $81,071/year) in 1974 and GAO promoted me to GS-13 (currently $96,403/year) in 1986.)

I washed dishes for the minimum wage in the basement of the S.S. Kresges in Chicago Heights while I was a junior and a senior at Crete-Monee High School 1964-1966 and the summer in between. From what I see, absolutely none of my critics/opponents, their operatives, or their dupes would have taken such a bad job. Back then, I had Osgood-Schlatter disease (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osgood%E2%80%93Schlatter_disease). My eyesight has never been correctable to 20/20. https://www.federaltimes.com/federal-oversight/congress/2018/07/19/house-moves-forward-on-feds-restricting-bills/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The second bill, the Modern Employment Reform, Improvement and Transformation (MERIT) Act, would reduce the advance notice that an agency must provide to an employee it intends to discipline or remove from 30 days to 15 days. Employees then have, at maximum, seven days to answer to the proposed action against them. “The Civil Service Reform Act of 1978 created a special authority to remove or demote poor performers. However, the GAO found that removing a poor performer under this special authority, which requires a performance improvement plan, can take six months to a year, and sometimes significantly longer. This does not reflect the significant time during an appeal, should things not proceed during the performance improvement plan,” said Rep. Paul Mitchell, R-Mich. “This bill repeals that special authority.” Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., characterized the bill as an attack on federal employees and their due process rights. “The provisions of H.R. 559 would allow broad congressional edict to micromanage agency personnel procedures and limit the ability of the federal workforce to seek justice when treated unfairly by management. The bill does not afford federal workers accused of performance or disciplinary issues adequate time to mount a credible defense and blurs the procedural line between performance-based and disciplinary actions,” the AFGE letter said. The bill passed on a vote of 19 to 11.)

GOVERNMENT EXECUTIVE
— GAO: VA Is Letting Senior Officials Off the Hook While Disproportionately Punishing Whistleblowers – Eric Katz (DIERSEN: I blew the whistle on political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation while I worked for GAO 1980-1997, for IRS 1971-1980, and for the Post Office 1966-1969. To punish me, a) my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, gave me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, got rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $19,203 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980; b) my Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974; and c) my Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968.)
https://www.govexec.com/management/2018/07/va-letting-senior-officials-hook-while-disproportionately-punishing-whistleblowers-audit-finds/149897/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Congress has for years worked to reform the disciplinary process at VA, with President Trump last year signing into law new procedures that expedite firings and make it easier for the department to prove its case. Those changes may not have taken into account internal failings within VA, the Government Accountability Office found, as it consistently fails to document evidence against employees and notify them of their rights. Additionally, while last year’s Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act sought to protect employees who attempted to shine a light on shortcomings within the agency, GAO found whistleblowers were far more likely to face adverse actions after reporting misconduct. One in 10 employees who brought issues before the Office of Special Counsel were slapped with discipline that same year, compared to one out of 100 VA employees overall.)
