For Democrats, the federal government exists to hire, retain, and promote Democrats. My Democrat superiors in the federal government have always known that I have always cast Republican primary ballots. Notwithstanding that, the Democrats who ran the Post Office in 1966, IRS in 1971, and GAO in 1980 hired me anyway. They could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, younger person, or veteran who would take the job. They erroneously believed that if they took enough adverse actions against me, I would become a Democrat. My Democrat Post Office superiors disallowed my sick leave requests in 1968 and 1969 and forced me to resign in 1969. My Democrat GAO superiors a) forced me to take a $23,699 (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS, b) delayed my promotions and never promoted me beyond GS-13, c) kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for them, d) always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance, and e) forced me to resign when I was 49 in 1997. They would not have taken the aforesaid adverse actions against me if I had been a minority, female, or veteran. I should have majored in accounting from the beginning, but I did not until I was 27 when I started taking graduate evening accounting courses at DePaul. I passed the CPA examination on my first attempt when I was 30. I earned a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul when I was 31. I passed the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt when I was 32. I became a licensed CPA when I was 32. But by then, the accounting profession had no interest in me a) because it viewed me as being too old and b) because my demographics were terrible. The profession was under tremendous pressure to advance minorities and females. Why didn’t I major in accounting from the beginning? I erroneously believed that because I was not strong in math, I could never pass the CPA examination. But I belatedly came to realize that accountants do not use the types of math that I was not strong in.
