The Indivisible West Suburban Chicago event will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Tower Green in downtown Western Springs. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Former Illinois House Republican Leader Jim Durkin, who recently endorsed Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker over Republican gubernatorial nominee Darren Bailey, allegedly launched an unprovoked, profanity-laced verbal attack against a female Illinois Review contributor Thursday evening during a political fundraiser at Hinsdale Prime Steak, according to the contributor herself and eyewitnesses who spoke with Illinois Review. The target of Durkin’s alleged outburst was Janelle Towne, a longtime Republican activist and contributor to Illinois Review, one of Illinois’ prominent conservative, pro-Trump news publications. According to Towne and multiple witnesses, Durkin called her a “f—ing bitch” and criticized her for supporting Bailey, whom he referred to as a “hillbilly loser.” Towne told Illinois Review that she had done nothing to provoke the confrontation and that it occurred near the front door of the restaurant. Towne is no stranger to Durkin. A former constituent of the Western Springs Republican, she has known him for years. She is also an outspoken supporter of President Donald Trump and a frequent visitor to Mar-a-Lago, the president’s private residence in Palm Beach, Florida. Towne has never been shy about her support for Trump or conservative Republican candidates like Bailey. Durkin, meanwhile, has long opposed Trump and has become increasingly outspoken against the party’s MAGA wing. Durkin’s disagreements with Trump and his influence on the Republican Party date back years. In December 2023, Illinois Review reported that Durkin had decided against running for Cook County State’s Attorney, citing Trump’s potential presence at the top of the Republican ticket. “I see no path winning with Trump at the top of the ticket,” Durkin told CBS Chicago at the time. But Thursday’s alleged confrontation goes beyond political differences. A former Republican legislative leader allegedly directing a degrading, gender-directed insult at a woman over her political support is a serious matter, particularly for someone who spent years representing the public in Springfield. The incident comes less than fourteen days after Durkin appeared in a campaign video endorsing Pritzker for a third term. In it, he said he would not “throw away or waste a vote” on Bailey, whose campaign he called a “foolish escapade.” Durkin now works in government affairs as “of counsel” at Point of Difference Strategies, a Chicago lobbying firm led by Lisa Duarte, a former senior official in the Pritzker administration. As Illinois Review previously reported, the firm is registered to represent 37 clients in Springfield, including AbbVie, United Airlines, Nicor Gas, the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Transit Authority. Those clients are represented by the firm, not necessarily by Durkin individually. Durkin spent years in Springfield as one of Illinois’ most influential Republicans, including nearly a decade as House Republican leader. Although he has left elected office, his work in government affairs keeps him connected to the same political institutions he once helped lead. Political disagreements are nothing new. But according to Towne, Thursday night’s encounter at Hinsdale Prime Steak went beyond a disagreement over candidates. They allege that a former Republican legislative leader directed a degrading, profanity-laced insult at a woman he has known for years because of her support for Darren Bailey. The allegations raise a question that has little to do with party loyalty or political endorsements: Why would a former House Republican leader speak to any woman that way?)

Bailey, a former state senator from downstate Illinois, is an evangelical Christian, and founded a private Christian school with his wife. Pritzker’s campaign has published press releases attacking Bailey for his and his school’s theological stances. On October 14, for example, the campaign mocked Bailey because his school upholds biblical positions on the family, including that a husband “leads the family” — as opposed to the radical social agenda taught in government schools. Pritzker campaign spokesperson Leah Hurwitz disingenuously claimed that “Darren Bailey has used his own school to indoctrinate children into his extreme views.” In reality, government schools have indoctrinated millions of American children into rejecting biblical principles and adopting actual extreme views such as Marxism and critical race theory. Not the First Attack. This was not the first time that Pritzker’s campaign attacked Bailey’s Christian faith. On September 17, it launched a television ad attacking Bailey because his school uses curriculum that teaches biblical creation. In a press release published the following day, the campaign labeled the school’s curriculum “extreme,” and smeared biblical creation as a “false dinosaur hoax.” Pritzker’s attack effectively targeted millions of Americans. For example, Gallup polling indicates that a plurality of Americans believe in biblical creation. Additionally, many scientists continue to openly reject evolution as scientifically unsound. Responding to this attack, Bailey said that he wanted “to talk about high property taxes [and] high utility costs.” He called the attacks — and the media’s fixation on them — a “perfect example of JB Pritzker being successful by diverting the message.” Perhaps not surprisingly in a blue state, Pritzker’s campaign has also attacked both Bailey and his running mate for opposing abortion. The Illinois Democratic Party has joined in attacking Bailey’s Christian faith. In a Facebook post on October 14, David Smith, executive director of the Christian-conservative Illinois Family Institute, highlighted an anti-Bailey mailer that he received, paid for by the party. Headlined “Darren Bailey: Not this extremist b******t again,” the vulgar mailer attacked Bailey’s Christian beliefs, including “believ[ing] God intended for men to be the head of households” and “oppos[ing] the right to an abortion.” Pritzker’s and Bailey’s Records. In his post, Smith noted that “the hypocrisy is staggering coming from JB Pritzker, who repealed parental notification of abortion, expanded taxpayer funding for abortion, [and] legalized assisted suicide. His ‘culture of death’ agenda is extremism on steroids.” Bailey served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 2019 to 2021, and in the Senate from 2021 to 2023, earning an 83-percent lifetime Freedom Score. By contrast, the Illinois General Assembly’s average Freedom Score currently sits at a dismal 23.4 percent. America’s Biblical Foundation. Pritzker’s attacks on Bailey’s Christian faith illustrate how far the United States has drifted from its biblical foundation — a foundation that no informed American can miss. For example, the Declaration of Independence acknowledges that “all men … are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,” including the rights to “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Additionally, in his 1796 Farewell Address, President George Washington noted that, “of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.” In a 1798 letter to the Massachusetts Militia, President John Adams declared, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” And in its 1892 decision in Church of the Holy Trinity v. United States, the U.S. Supreme Court declared explicitly that the United States “is a Christian nation.” Instead of upholding America’s founding principles, a large segment of American leaders, including Pritzker, advocate policies such as abortion, euthanasia, gun control, and draconian government regulations that blatantly violate them — and many are openly condescending of traditional Christian principles. This trend is not limited to a single party, as The New American’s Freedom Index demonstrates. Defending Biblical Principles. With America’s biblical foundation under attack, traditionally minded Americans must push back. For example, parents must get their children out of government schools and instead homeschool them or place them in vetted private schools, such as FreedomProject Academy. Indoctrination via government schools and universities has been a key cause of America’s moral decline, and parents must not allow it get hold of their children. Americans must also educate their family, friends, and neighbors about their elected officials’ records. Few people are aware of how their leaders govern, or even know who their representatives are. The New American’s Freedom Index, which evaluates federal and state legislators based on their adherence to the U.S. Constitution and America’s founding principles, is an excellent place to start. Restoring adherence to America’s founding principles requires an informed and activated electorate. The John Birch Society, the parent organization of The New American, has been working tirelessly for nearly 70 years to educate Americans and motivate them to action, spearheading organized action in local communities to influence elected officials. Raja Krishnamoorthi said he and his family were at the Aurora Hindu temple Sunday when authorities allege a 19-year-old Palatine man attempted to carry out a mass shooting there. “I am horrified that a white supremacist attempted to carry out a mass shooting targeting Indian Americans at the Hindu temple in Aurora where my family worships,” the Schaumburg Democrat said in a statement Thursday. Krishnamoorthi, citing information from Cook County prosecutors, said Alexandros Paporakis attempted to open fire on the Sri Venkateswara Swami Balaji Temple before his rifle jammed. Paporakis later told co-workers what happened and shared plans to try again, according to Krishnamoorthi, but the co-workers informed police, who arrested the suspect before he could return. Palatine police said Wednesday they arrested Paporakis Sunday evening as he left his home in the 1300 block of North Baldwin Court. Investigators later found a manifesto attributed to Paporakis entitled “Why I Fought: A.K.A. (Aurora Shooter’s Manifesto)” and containing statements expressing white supremacist and extremist ideologies, police said. Police said officers also discovered weapons, hundreds of rounds of rifle ammunition, tactical equipment, body armor and a patch containing imagery associated with white supremacist extremism at Paporakis’ home. Paporakis is being held in Cook County Jail facing charges of making a terrorist threat and unlawful possession of weapons. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 30. At a news conference Thursday, Palatine Police Chief William Nord said investigators identified a red Acura RDX registered to Paporakis entering the parking lot of the temple at about 12:25 p.m. Sunday then leaving 13 minutes later. “Our investigation has revealed, and it can be confirmed as of right now, that he has been alone in this plan,” he said. “He did reveal some details in the manifesto that he has been planning this for some time.” Paporakis has been living in Palatine with his mother for approximately year, but police had no previous contacts with him, Nord said. His mother has been questioned but is not cooperating with the investigation, he added. Authorities gave credit Thursday to the co-worker who tipped off police about the alleged plot. “I want to thank that individual for their bravery,” said Lucas Rothaar, the acting special agent in charge with the FBI’s Chicago Field Office. Krishnamoorthi said the case is an example of “how dangerous anti-Indian hatred and white supremacy have become.” “And we cannot wait until innocent people are killed to take these threats seriously,” he added. In 1974, when my IRS salary increased from $83,482/year to $100,059/year, I would have sold it and bought a one bedroom condo in the Outer Dive East building in downtown Chicago. But because the University Park housing market had crashed, I could sell the townhome only if I took a big loss. So I kept it and instead bought a studio condo in that building. In 1976, I traded that studio condo in to the building’s developer for a one bedroom condo, and because the University Park housing market was still way down, I began renting it out. (FROM THE EDITORIAL: With Election Day less than a month away, voters should look beyond campaign slogans and ask what the policies on the ballot would mean for families who built their lives around work, homeownership, savings and the hope that their children can do better. A growing socialist movement promises to make life fairer by putting more of the economy under government control. The Democratic Socialists of America’s 2026 program calls for publicly owned housing, universal rent control and public ownership of the largest corporations and essential industries. Those proposals deserve serious scrutiny. They would shift decisions about housing, investment and production away from individuals and businesses and toward government. That shift in control carries real risks for the middle class. Rent control may protect some tenants from increases in the short term, but it cannot create the homes a growing community needs. Research on San Francisco found that rent control reduced displacement for covered tenants while also contributing to a loss of rental housing that pushed market rents higher over time. Policies that discourage construction can leave more families competing for fewer homes. Public ownership raises an equally basic question: Who decides what gets built, what it costs and who gets access? Government programs can serve essential needs, but concentrating control over major industries in government would give political leaders enormous influence over people’s jobs, choices and livelihoods. Calling that “democratic control” does not guarantee competent management or protect citizens from political favoritism. The middle class already feels squeezed by housing costs, healthcare bills, energy prices and taxes. The answer should be to make it easier to build homes, start businesses, find good jobs and keep more of what families earn. An agenda that expands government control while discouraging private investment could narrow opportunity and make everyday necessities more expensive. Warnings about socialism aren’t just coming from Republicans. Sen. John Fetterman has said in fundraising appeals in recent weeks: “I’m always going to reject Socialism and the Anti-American way of life.” Voters should consider why a senator willing to cross partisan lines draws such a clear distinction between socialism and the American principles of individual freedom and opportunity. Candidates’ words matter. Democratic Michigan congressional candidate William Lawrence once described his goal as “destroying the American way of life” while criticizing consumerism. The context matters, and voters should consider his full remarks. But a phrase that sweeping demands a clear explanation of what he would preserve and what he would replace. This is not a choice between accepting every failure in today’s economy and surrendering more power to government. Families need a stronger path to homeownership, better schools, reliable public safety and healthcare they can afford. Those goals require accountable institutions and practical reforms, not promises that government can manage every part of life better than people can. The American dream has never been guaranteed. It depends on individual freedom, hard work and an economy that rewards initiative while giving people room to recover from setbacks. Voters should sound the warning when candidates offer policies that put those foundations at risk. The middle class should not become the experiment on which ideological promises are tested.)

It requires bureaucratic records and competent administration. Somebody has to do all of it. Every immigration officer focused on solving one of those problems is an officer not available for enforcement. . .Immigration officers would remain responsible for the majority of traditional arrests and enforcement decisions. But the Corps would take on civilian support duties, a subset of which would involve contact with potentially dangerous illegal aliens. Even the simple act of driving illegal aliens from a staging area to the airport would entail risk, given the high number of illegal aliens with additional criminal records. Eleven years after Donald Trump’s rise, the Republican Party still has not broken with the business interests that depend on cheap, abundant migrant labor. A handful of conservatives want to shut off the employment spigot and reduce both illegal and legal immigration. But too much of the party remains willing to protect longtime illegal workers in agriculture, expand guest-worker programs, or legalize workers already here when employers insist they cannot operate without them. That’s the real fault line. Almost every Republican says border chaos is bad. The harder test comes when immigration enforcement raises labor costs for industries dependent upon a large foreign workforce. When a party’s voters and its governing class want fundamentally different things on a defining issue, eventually the contradiction must break somewhere. For years, Republicans have talked about focusing deportations on criminal aliens while treating workers in agriculture, hospitality, and other favored industries differently. That approach leaves the cheap labor pipeline largely intact. If employers can continue hiring illegal labor with little consequence, the incentive to come and remain does not disappear. Republicans simply won’t protect our nation’s sovereignty. Instead, they build up a false dichotomy that points to one solution: amnesty. Senator Jim Justice (R-W.Va.) made the tension explicit last month. He told Politico that ICE can get “carried away” and questioned “dragging people away that have lived on your street corner for 15 years.” He later issued a statement saying he supports Trump’s immigration strategy “full stop,” while emphasizing the removal of dangerous criminals.

— If America had been socialist when you were young, would you be better off today? Socialists have to argue that under socialism, I would be better off today. But to advance under socialism, you have to be a card-carrying socialist. Because I would not have been a card-carrying socialist, I would not have advanced. If America had been socialist when you were young, would you have become a card-carrying socialist to advance? Being a socialist is a lot like being a Democrat. For Democrat leaders, the federal government exists to hire, retain, and promote Democrats, and especially Democrats who are minority, female, younger, and/or veteran. The Democrats who ran the Post Office in 1966, IRS in 1971, and GAO in 1980 hired me because they could not find a qualified Democrat who was minority, female, younger, or veteran and who would take the job. They wasted my career and forced me to retire in 1997 because I refused to become a Democrat. While I worked for the Democrats who ran the federal government for almost 30 years, you had to be a card-carrying Democrat to advance. Because I was not a card-carrying Democrat, minority, female, or veteran, a) my Democrat Post Office superiors disallowed my sick leave requests in 1968 and 1969 and forced me to resign in 1969, b) my Democrat IRS superiors got rid of the IRS manager who had promoted me in 1972, 1973, and 1974, disallowed my travel vouchers in 1974, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, and never promoted me beyond GS-12, and c) my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to suffer a $23,699/year (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980, delayed my promotions and never promoted me beyond GS-13, got rid of the GAO manager who arranged my transfer from IRS and was finally able to promote me to GS-13 in 1986, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 year that I worked for GAO, always ranked me in the bottom half or my coworkers for pay-for-performance, and forced me to retire when I was 49 in1997. They used Affirmative Action, up-or-out, and the subjectivity in their performance appraisal systems to take the aforesaid adverse actions. Because I was not a card-carrying Democrat, they ignored/dismissed/belittled my earning a) a job-related bachelor’s degree in 1970, b) job-related master’s degrees in 1976, 1980, and 1997, c) job-related professional certifications in 1979, 1981, 1990, 1994, 1996, and 1997, and d) a job-related professional license in 1981. — PRESS RELEASE: DuPage County GOP Brings Together Nearly 200 Republicans for Statewide Candidate Rally
Bloomingdale, IL — October 6, 2026 — Nearly 200 Republicans from across Illinois gathered Monday evening at Bloomingdale Golf Club as the DuPage County Republican Party hosted a statewide candidate rally featuring the Republican candidates running for statewide office in the November 3 General Election.
The enthusiastic crowd included Republicans from several counties across Illinois, along with dozens of local candidates, elected officials, township Republican leaders and grassroots activists.
Illinois Republican Party Chairman Bob Grogan served as master of ceremonies and welcomed attendees before introducing DuPage County Republican leaders and township Republican chairmen from throughout the county.
The evening featured remarks from Republican candidates for statewide office, including Darren Bailey for Governor, Aaron Del Mar for Lieutenant Governor, Don Tracy for U.S. Senate, Bob Fioretti for Attorney General, Diane Harris for Secretary of State, Bryan Drew for Comptroller and Max Solomon for Treasurer.
Local and congressional candidates also addressed the crowd, including Sean Noonan for DuPage County Sheriff, Patricia Kladis-Schiappa for DuPage County Clerk, Niki Conforti for Congress in Illinois’ 6th District, Lupe Castillo for Congress in Illinois’ 4th District, Rob Vrankovich for State Representative in the 47th District, Pedro Mendoza for State Representative in the 46th District, Laura Hois for State Representative in the 81st District, and Eric Poplanski for DuPage County Board.
The candidates delivered what organizers described as a message of less government, lower taxes and greater accountability, while encouraging voters to make a plan to participate in the November election.
Following the formal program, candidates met with supporters, posed for photographs and distributed campaign yard signs.

“A Sign That We Are Not Just Preaching to the Choir”
Grogan highlighted the energy in the room and the broad mix of attendees.
“On top of a great crowd with great energy was the fact that the room was filled with so many unfamiliar faces. That is a sign that we are not just preaching to the choir.”
DuPage County Republican Chairman Kevin Coyne said the rally demonstrated the strength of the Republican ticket from the statewide level to local races.
“It was a wonderful event and showcased the very strong candidates the GOP has running statewide and locally. We have terrific candidates up and down the ballot. Last night was a great opportunity for voters to meet them all. Now let’s get out there and vote and take a crack at turning our state around!”
The evening concluded with remarks from Carol Davis of the Illinois Election Integrity Program and Illinois Conservative Union, who encouraged attendees to become involved as poll watchers during the November election.
With early voting already underway, organizers encouraged Republicans to make a plan to vote, bring others to the polls, and stay engaged through Election Day on November 3.
