In 1999, I worked with other homeowners in my neighborhood to prompt Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd) to provide better protection against storm-caused power outages. ComEd insisted on providing power to my neighborhood from its distant Warrenville distribution center four long miles away rather than from its nearby Wheaton distribution center only two short blocks away. Consequently, my neighborhood needlessly suffered far greater exposure to storm-caused outages. ComEd’s refusal to correct the problem forced me to file a complaint (Docket No. 990063) with the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) against ComEd. Ultimately, ComEd began routing power to my neighborhood from its nearby distribution center and power reliability has improved dramatically.)

FEDERAL TIMES
— White House stonewalling GAO investigation efforts – Jessie Bur
https://www.federaltimes.com/federal-oversight/congress/2018/05/29/white-house-stonewalling-watchdog-investigation-efforts/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Offices within the Trump administration have refused to meet with Government Accountability Office staff on relevant investigations, and a cadre of congressmen want to know why. A group of 18 Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee sent a letter to the committee chairman, Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., May 29, 2018, raising concerns over the White House’s refusal to meet with GAO investigators and calling for a hearing on the matter. On May 9, 2018, the GAO General Counsel Thomas Armstrong sent a letter to White House Counsel Donald McGahn expressing concern that the National Security Council and McGhan’s offices repeatedly refused to engage with GAO staff over the course of their investigations. “Over the past year, GAO has requested information and meetings when preparing reports on topics clearly involving White House interests and expertise. These reports concern such diverse topics as the role of the NSC in the coordination of conflict prevention, mitigation and stabilization efforts abroad; Inspector General vacancies; and the cost of presidential travel and security related measures,” Armstrong wrote.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: But Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., said the executive orders, including the one expediting discipline and firing, erode federal employees’ due process protections. “Rather than improving government efficiency, these executive orders will make it harder to resolve workplace disputes; report waste, fraud and abuse; and ensure a fair and safe workplace for federal employees,” he said. “Instead of trying to erode the rights of federal employees and whistleblowers, the administration should focus on the abuses of Cabinet officials taking charter and first class flights and buying $31,000 dining sets and $43,000 soundproof booths.”)

BREITBART
— Antonio Villaraigosa-Supporting Group Sends Anti-John Cox Mailers to Republican Voters – Joel B. Pollak (DIERSEN: Have you ever ran for a government or a political office? I give credit to Republicans who run for government and/or political offices. Cox and I served together on the Illinois Center Right Coalition (ICRC) Steering Committee (SC). I have never run for a government office, but I did successfully run a) for the Association of Government Accountants Chicago Chapter Executive Committee 1983-1995, b) for Republican Precinct Committeeman every 2 years starting in 2000, c) for American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC) Midwest Chapter board of directors 2001-2003, d) ICRC SC 2003-2006, and e) TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairman 2005-2011. I ran for the open Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) Treasurer position in 2004. Back then, as it continues today, MTRCC members who reject planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform, who blame me for all defeats that Republicans have suffered in Illinois since 2000, who focus on destroying those who they cannot manipulate/dominate, and/or who are operatives or dupes for those who I have sued went negative big time and got all but 13 MTRCC members to vote against me. They stress that I am no longer a TAPROOT chairman, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee member, MTRCC webmaster, ICRC SC member, AAPC Midwest Chapter board member, GAO employee, etc.)
http://www.breitbart.com/2018-elections/2018/05/27/antonio-villaraigosa-supporting-group-sends-anti-john-cox-mailers-to-republican-voters/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: What is surprising is that the mailers are attacking Cox from the right, echoing attacks that have been launched by Cox’s main Republican rival, Assemblyman Travis Allen (R-Huntington Beach). The mailers refer to Cox as a “Democratic Activist” and a “Chicago Liberal,” and note that he did not vote for Donald Trump in 2016. (Trump has since endorsed Cox for governor). One mailer is actually designed to look like it comes from Travis Allen. There is an attractive photograph of Allen and his family next to a military aircraft, plus a list of Republican endorsements for Allen. It is only once readers see the fine print of who paid for the ads that the truth becomes clear: the mailers are “Paid for by Families & Teachers for Antonio Villaraigosa for Governor 2018, sponsored by California Charter Schools Association Advocates,” groups that are backing the Democrat. What looks like Republican mailers are actually propaganda placed by Democrats in an attempt to split the Republican vote and create an opening for Villaraigosa to qualify for the general election. Many of the claims by the group against Cox were debunked by the Sacramento Bee: “John Cox did lose 13 campaigns before running for governor, but he isn’t a secret Democrat.” These sorts of tricks are commonplace — and legal — in California, where all is fair in the “jungle” primary.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Last Sunday The Chronicle of Higher Education published a special report that delved into this debate. One of the stories described what was happening at the flagship campus of the University of Illinois and at Assumption College in Worcester, Mass., casting these developments as different harbingers for higher education. Illinois is pairing certain majors in the liberal arts — for example, anthropology and linguistics — with computer science. Assumption is doing away with a host of traditional majors in favor of new ones geared to practical skills. Goodbye, art history, geography and, yes, classics. Hello, data analytics, actuarial science and concentrations in physical and occupational therapy.)

Cox, who got his start as an attorney in Illinois, moved to California in 2011. He no longer practices law, though still has an active license in Illinois. He grew up in a Democratic family in Chicago and ran, at the age of 20, to be a delegate for the 1976 Democratic convention. It was the first in a string of races he would lose. Cox has said he was drawn to the GOP in the 1980s by President Ronald Reagan. He has pursued half a dozen failed campaigns for office as a Republican, including for Congress in 2000, U.S. Senate in 2002 and 2004, Cook County Record of Deeds in 2004, Illinois Republican Party chairman in 2005 and U.S. president in 2008.)

But Mielke and several party officials this week sought the suspension of Evans’ campaign after a background check uncovered a raft of charges related to domestic violence stretching back decades. While most were dropped, an Indiana judge issued a warrant for Evans arrest after he failed to appear for a probation hearing. In 2009, Evans’ wife filed an emergency order of protection. Jennifer Horn, former state party chairman, was excluded from participating in the state party convention over the weekend on a technicality. She had sought to amend the party’s platform plank on marriage, which states that party members: “Recognize marriage as the legal and sacred union between one man and one woman as ordained by God, encouraged by the state and traditional to humankind, and the core of the family.” Horn also wanted to change the party’ support for “traditional families” to “nurturing families,” according to The Union Leader. Horn has recently moved from one ward in Nashua to another, and on that basis convention delegates meeting in Meredith voted to exclude her from taking part in the meeting, according to The Union Leader.)

https://www.theknifemedia.com/world-news/elon-musk-plans-media-credibility-site-medias-response-may-support-argument/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Elon Musk tweets about media, creating a site to rate journalists On Wednesday, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk tweeted, “The holier-than-thou hypocrisy of big media companies who lay claim to the truth, but publish only enough to sugarcoat the lie, is why the public no longer respects them.” Musk later tweeted, “Going to create a site where the public can rate the core truth of any article & track the credibility score over time of each journalist, editor & publication. Thinking of calling it Pravda ….” . . . The media’s response to Elon Musk’s comments may have done more to support his argument than to refute it. In many cases, news outlets distorted their coverage with sensational language, one-sided reporting and faulty reasoning. This is reflected in The Knife’s objectivity ratings, which found The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post and USA Today scored between 35 and 42 percent out of 100. These low scores may highlight the importance of applying standards that can hold news outlets accountable for distorted reporting. There are four parts to The Knife’s ratings — spin (the amount of subjective and dramatic language in an article), slant (how much an article supports a single viewpoint), logic (the amount of faulty reasoning in an article), and data (inaccuracies and missing information). Below we’ll examine how spin, slant and faulty reasoning contributed to the overall objectivity ratings for these outlets.)

David MacNeil, who employs 1,600 people through his Bolingbrook-based WeatherTech automotive company, told POLITICO in an interview that the issue has grown deeply personal, given that a top employee in his company could face deportation if a deal isn’t reached for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. MacNeil is the second prominent Chicago-area businessman and GOP donor in a week to cut off or threaten to withhold campaign contributions over the immigration debate. On Wednesday, former Exelon CEO John Rowe told POLITICO he would cut off resources to Republicans who refuse to sign onto a discharge petition that would force a vote on legislation related to so-called “Dreamers,” while rewarding those who did with contributions and fundraising events. Both Rowe and MacNeil belong to the Illinois Business Immigration Coalition, which is calling on GOP lawmakers to sign the DACA discharge petition. “I’m saying this as a political donor who’s donated seven figures in the last couple of years: I will not donate any more money to anyone who doesn’t support DACA, period,” MacNeil said in a phone call while traveling in Italy. “I’m putting my money where my mouth is.” MacNeil is among the CEOs who backed Trump before the 2016 election, inspired by the campaign’s “Make America Great Again,” mantra. A Canadian emigrant who is now a U.S. citizen, MacNeil has long touted that his own products are made in America. He underwrote a Trump fundraiser in Bolingbrook just before the 2016 election, then gave $1 million to Trump’s inaugural committee. MacNeil said that a top-performing employee who has been with him for more than 10 years will represent the WeatherTech at the Governor’s Export Awards reception Thursday night, in which the company is a finalist. The employee was brought to the country as a toddler.)

Further, obviously, Rauner’s political consultants tell him that more anti-Trumps than pro-Trumps will vote in the November 6, 2018 election, so he should dump voters, dump organizations, dump companies, dump etc. that support Trump. (FROM THE ARTICLE: But Uihlein broke from Rauner after his signature on legislation expanding taxpayer-subsidized abortions and backed Ives, the three-term Wheaton Republican who narrowly lost to Rauner in March. Uihlein gave her $2.5 million. “Jeanne proved that people are hungry for change,” Uihlein says in the article. Author John J. Miller writes that Uihlein is “now skeptical about Rauner’s ability to deliver (change) but says that the Democratic gubernatorial candidate, J.B. Pritzker, would be a disaster for Illinois: ‘I will vote for Rauner over Pritzker.’ ” State Sen. Sam McCann, a Republican from Downstate Plainview, is also mounting a third-party bid. The article also recounts how Uihlein met John Tillman, chairman and CEO of the Illinois Policy Institute. Last decade, Tillman was looking for work after selling his used sporting goods store. “I’d been getting the Uline catalog for a while,” Tillman said. “So I wrote a letter to the owner.” The article says Tillman and Uihlein met, but their conversation turned to what was described as “Tillman’s real passion: creating a network of freedom-minded organizations in Illinois.” “Dick became my anchor donor,” Tillman says in the article, adding that Uihlein gave him $50,000 in seed money to start the institute. Millions more from Uihlein have flowed since. In February, Rauner said he wouldn’t give the institute “another nickel.”)

Uihlein gave $95,000 to Proft’s failed bid for the GOP governor nomination in 2010, then gave him an additional $500,000 later to help seed Proft’s political operation. Since then, Uihlein has given Proft’s Liberty Principles political action committee $12.1 million, including $3 million in January. And Uihlein has become a prolific donor to federal candidates, including giving $100,000 to a super PAC backing Republican Roy Moore in a special Senate election in Alabama. Moore was accused of sexually molesting or assaulting teens ages 14 and 16 while he was in his 30s. Moore denied the allegations but lost the election to Democrat Doug Jones.)

http://www.nwherald.com/2018/05/24/mchenry-township-trustee-seeking-money-for-consolidation-campaign/adec20g/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “We cannot underestimate the desperation of the opposition,” he wrote. “We can no longer trust them to police themselves. They have demonstrated their willingness to treat our tax dollars like they are in their own personal piggy banks.” Anderson pointed to “shameful spending” in Algonquin Township, McHenry County’s most populous township and the center of budget-busting legal fees, corruption allegations and political infighting. He noted that the names of contributors will appear on reports to the state of Illinois if they donate $150 or more. “If you strongly support us but do not want to be identified by the entrenched politicians who want to perpetuate the current system, send us $149.00 and encourage your spouse, kids or a friend to make a contribution,” Anderson wrote. “It has been said that evil thrives when good people do nothing. Please do something.”)

https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/25/politics/kfile-illinois-republican-nominee-illuminati/index.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Illinois Republican Party did not respond to a request for comment. Another Illinois Republican nominee for a House seat, neo-Nazi Arthur Jones, has been rejected by national Republicans and the state party for denying the Holocaust. In a 2014 post, Fawell speculated that New York City was going to be destroyed in a false flag attack by the deep state in either the year 2016 or 2017. New York City is going to be destroyed in the biggest, baddest false flag attack ever made by any organization upon the American People in a Pearl Harbor redux,” Fawell wrote. (False flag attacks are acts designed by perpetrators to look like they were carried out by other individuals or groups.) He said that the attack would be made in an attempt to drag America into war, and that financial institutions were already withdrawing money from New York in preparation for the supposed attack. In another post in 2014, he wrote that then-President Barack Obama created false flag attacks to shore up support for his foreign policy intervention against ISIS. In addition to alleging conspiracies, Fawell used sexist and racist slurs against politicians.)

— Discharged and jobless: Veterans seek change in hiring rules – AP (DIERSEN: Have you been discharged? My Democrat GAO superiors discharged me in 1997 when I was 49 years old. Further, as documents filed in Diersen v. GAO show, my Democrat GAO superiors want me to be jobless. They want to send a message to current and potential future GAO employees that a) GAO gives preference to its employees who are Democrat, minority, female, and/or younger and b) gets rid of its employees who are Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran who do not make do not make GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40.)
http://www.sacbee.com/news/article211891489.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Military veterans who were discharged for relatively minor offenses say they often can’t get jobs, and they hope a recent warning to employers by the state of Connecticut will change that. The state’s human rights commission told employers last month they could be breaking the law if they discriminate against veterans with some types of less-than-honorable discharges. Blanket policies against hiring such veterans could be discriminatory, the commission said, because the military has issued them disproportionately to black, Latino, gay and disabled veterans. At least one other state, Illinois, already prohibits hiring discrimination based on a veteran’s discharge status, advocates say, but Connecticut appears to be the first to base its decision on what it deems discrimination by the military. Regardless of the state’s reasons, veterans say, the attention there could at least educate employers.)

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Are you a Republican Precinct Committeeman/Captain? What information do you hope to get about today’s Illinois Republican County Chairman’s Association (IRCCA) meeting and today’s Illinois Republican Party (IRP) State Central Committee (SCC) meeting, from who do you hope to get that information, and when do you hope to get that information? I hope to get a report on who spoke at the meetings, major announcements that were made, votes that were taken, the outcomes of those votes, and when and where the next meeting will be held. Most importantly, what did Mark Shaw specifically promise to do concerning conservatives?  I hope to get email reports from my IRP county chairman and from my IRP SCC member. I hope to get those reports before I send out this evening’s GOPUSA ILLINOIS email. Historically, beyond outrageously, beyond unacceptably, Illinois Republican Precinct Committeemen/Captains have only gotten reports of what happened at IRCCA and IRP SCC meetings from the Democrat news media. According to my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes, Republican Precinct Committeemen/Captains should only know what the chairman of their Republican township/ward/county organizations tell them, no more and no less. – Dave Diersen

(FROM THE ARTICLE: As lawmakers in Springfield careen toward a May 31 adjournment deadline, let’s get a few things straight. They haven’t agreed yet on a balanced budget for the fiscal year that starts in six weeks. They haven’t passed legislation to deal with the state’s alarming pension debt. They haven’t negotiated changes to programs that would make Illinois more business and tax friendly. The willful negligence of floating past the most serious challenges facing Illinois is repeating itself. No one should be surprised. The Illinois legislature is an avoidance expert. Fed-up residents respond by fleeing the state in alarming droves. State universities struggle to attract and keep students. Property taxes remain among the highest in the country.)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/editorials/ct-edit-pope-capitalism-vatican-chicago-20180518-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A lengthy document released Thursday by the Roman Catholic Church goes into surprising detail in its takedown of business, competition, deregulation and the shareholder system. Concepts named and vilified in the paper include derivatives (a class of financial instrument that includes futures), credit default swaps and offshore banking. Debt securitization, a complex pool of assets that can be risky for investors, is a “ticking time bomb ready sooner or later to explode,” the paper says.)

Should I sue my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes?)
http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/opinion/readers-rep/sd-me-readersrepnb-0520-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: he correction ran on the upper left corner of B1 May 12. Experienced news readers know that if a correction runs on a front page, the error has to be big. Indeed, it was. The entire premise of the Michael Smolens column that ran the day before was erroneous. Smolens, a highly experienced former political reporter and government editor, wrongly reported that John Cox, a Republican gubernatorial candidate, discusses issues with disgraced ex-San Diego Mayor Bob Filner. The factual error was bad enough, but it also has led to suspicions of biased coverage and “gotcha journalism” over fairness. What appeared to be a tantalizing news lead came out of a meeting Cox had with the U-T editorial board April 23. Smolens was sitting in on the meeting to gather possible subject matter for his column. Cox was talking about getting a statistic on pensions and developing a relationship with Bob Fellner — NOT Filner.)

May 18 Morning Edition

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Are you a Republican Precinct Committeeman/Captain in Illinois? Tomorrow, all 102 Illinois Republican Party (IRP) county party chairman and all 18 IRP State Central Committee (SCC) members are scheduled to meet in Springfield. Have you received notification of the time and location of the Illinois Republican County Chairman’s Association (IRCCA) meeting and/or IRP SCC meeting? Have you been invited to attend the meetings? Have you been asked to provide input for the agendas for the meetings, and if so, what input did you provide? Have you received a copy of the agendas for the meetings? Are you going to attend the meetings? Have you been provided with all the details of the deal struck between Bruce Rauner and Mark Shaw to placate the “conservative insurgents” in the IRP, that is, the 342,906 who voted for Ives? Do you approve or disapprove of that deal? Why? Have you asked your IRP county chairman and your IRP SCC member to vote for or against the deal? Will your IRP county party chairman email you a report of what happened at the May 19 IRCCA meeting? Will your IRP SCC member email you a report of what happened at the May 19 IRP SCC meeting?

What do you want Mark Shaw to do in his roles as the Co-Chairman of the IRP and the President of the IRCCA to organize Illinois conservatives and to “lead conservative and grassroots outreach for the” IRP? Should he:

  1. Encourage Rauner to sign a pledge to defend and advance all the planks in the IRP platform, including its traditional family, right to life, immigration, and Second Amendment planks?
  2. Identify who the conservative leaders are in each county in Illinois, meet with them on a one on one basis, meet with them at regional meetings, and/or meet with them at statewide meetings?
  3. Identify who the conservative leaders are in Illinois on a platform plank basis, including those who have taken the lead on the traditional family, right to life, immigration, and Second Amendment planks and meet with them on a one on one basis, meet with them at regional meetings, and/or meet with them at statewide meetings?
  4. Encourage Dave Diersen to form the “Republican Assembly of DuPage County” to reach out to and organize the conservatives in DuPage County?
  5. Encourage all Illinois conservatives and Republicans to read GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails?
  6. Encourage all Illinois conservative and Republican leaders to keep diersen@aol.com on their press advisory and press release lists? – Dave Diersen

ILLINOIS REVIEW
— RAUNER – YAY!
http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2018/05/rauner-yay.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Yay! Yay, teachers! Yay, [Democrat Illinois Supreme Court Justice] Ann Burke! Yay, Israel! Yay, Eunice Shriver! Yay, Kennedys! Yay, [Loyola] Ramblers! CapitolFax’s Rich Miller pulled together Governor Rauner uncomfortably “yaying” for an array of interesting folks, groups and other miscellaneous cheering reasons. Missing from the collection, though, is Governor Rauner’s “Yay, Planned Parenthood! Yay, Sanctuary state! Yay, Rauner Party leadership that stopped the IL GOP Platform-hugging conservative wing’s insurgent takeover!”)
— THORNER/O’NEIL: TIME TO HOLD CHURCH LEADERS RESPONSIBLE FOR PARISHIONERS’ POLITICS (DIERSEN: I should write a book about those who are a member of a church, attend church services, and/or give money to a church who claim to be Republican, but a) who promote dependency on government and on charity, b) who promote booze, gambling, pot, and/or other vices, c) who promote LGBTQ activity, d) who promote abortion, e) who promote illegal immigration, and/or f) who promote other planks in the Democrat, Libertarian, and/or Green platforms.)

That’s all good;” d) say that Rauner sees the recent Illinois Republican Party (IRP) leadership deal as giving Ives voters a “larger voice” in the IRP; and d) say that Rauner sees the deal as “a sign of unity for his re-election efforts.” Are you a “conservative insurgent,” that is, were you one of the 342,906 who voted for Ives? I did. Do you believe the deal will give you a greater voice in the IRP? How did you learn of the deal? If you are a Republican Precinct Committeeman/Captain, did you first learn of the deal a) from the IRP, b) from your representative on the IRP State Central Committee, c) from the officers of your IRP county party organization, d) from the officers of your IRP township/ward party organization, e) from the Democrat news media, or f) from Dave Diersen and his GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails?)

My father was the first of his ancestors to earn a high school diploma. My mother never attended high school. I spent my junior and senior years and the summer in between washing dishes for the minimum wage in the basement of the S.S. Kresges in Chicago Heights. REPUBLICAN ASSEMBLY OF LAKE COUNTY
— Principles
http://ralc.biz/principles
(FROM THE STATEMENT: We have joined ourselves together within the Republican Party to achieve our common goals –To give definition and strength to the Conservative movement within these United States. In these, we proudly affirm our belief in the following principles: This nation was established by men humbly seeking the guidance of Almighty God. Our hope for God to bless our country exists only if we again seek his divine guidance. We support the United States Constitution in the tradition of the Founding Fathers as the Supreme law of the land. The power of the Federal Government and State must be strongly bound by the chains of the Constitution to allow maximum individual achievement through freedom. Our country is a sovereign nation. We must never compromise our national sovereignty to other nations, the United Nations, or any other world organization. Our foreign policy must always reflect our national self-interest and founding principles. Our Founding Fathers firmly held to the conviction that religious freedom was fundamental to a free society. We also express the conviction that we are a God-fearing people, according one another the equal right of religious freedom and acknowledging with reverence the duty of obedience to the will of God. Our state has sovereign authority to govern the land and people within our border. We will not abide usurpation of state sovereignty by Federal mandate or economic extortion. We believe that each of us should be free to achieve, or fail according to our individual abilities, without the need for governmental assistance or quotas.)
— Beliefs
http://ralc.biz/beliefs
(FROM THE STATEMENT: That all political power and influence should flow from the grassroots upward. That all human rights are granted by God, not government. Government exists primarily to protect the God-given rights of its citizens. That the Constitution was written by wise men under the inspiration of God and that the original intent of the Founders is as valid and binding today as it was in their day. That the Constitution was written to govern a moral and religious people and it is being destroyed by those who are neither. That the traditional family is the foundation and cornerstone of our society – and we will oppose any attempt to undermine or redefine the family unit. The sanctity of human life is paramount in any free society. The unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. This sacred right extends to all persons regardless of age or infirmity and also would not allow for euthanasia, assisted suicide, embryonic stem cell research, human cloning or public funding for any of these practices. That the Founders never intended to separate God from government but did intend to prevent government from establishing a single state religion or from inhibiting the citizen’s right to the free exercise of religion in any setting, public or private. That free market capitalism is the only economic system that creates the opportunities and incentives that will allow maximum productivity and prosperity for its citizens. It is the necessary partner of political freedom.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois Republican Party officials say they’ve reached an agreement to share leadership of the party, heading off a weekend fight between moderates and conservatives over who should be the next state GOP chairman. Conservatives were backing Lake County GOP Chairman Mark Shaw against Tim Schneider, the current state chairman hand-picked by Gov. Bruce Rauner. The election is scheduled for Saturday. In a news release late Tuesday, the party says Shaw and Schneider have agreed Schneider will continue as chairman while Shaw will be co-chairman, leading “conservative and grassroots outreach.” Shaw also will run Saturday for president of the Illinois Republican County Chairmen’s Association. Conservatives have been critical of Rauner’s actions on issues such as abortion and immigration, prompting state Rep. Jeanne Ives to challenge him in a closer-than-expected March primary. Ives said Wednesday she’s “guardedly optimistic” about the new arrangement but reserving judgement until it’s put into practice.)

But after Gov. Bruce Rauner eked out a contentious and very narrow victory over state Rep. Jeanne Ives in the March primary, the Illinois Republican Party the GOP governor has bankrolled announced it would split leadership posts as a way to unify a political party that has seen its fair share of dissension.)

And there are also concerns about abortion. “We believe the ERA amendment is all about extending abortion right across the country where taxpayers have to fund it, at will, on demand,” said State Representative Jeanne Ives, R-Wheaton. With concerns about taking any stand that might further anger his base this election year, Governor Rauner has refused to directly support the Amendment.)

ILLINOIS REVIEW
— IL GOP HEADS MAKE DISAPPOINTING DEAL BEFORE SATURDAY’S STATE CENTRAL COMMITTEE VOTE
http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2018/05/il-gop-heads-make-disappointing-deal-before-saturdays-state-central-committee-vote-.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Any chance the conservative wing of the Illinois Republican Party had to take over party leadership next Saturday has been dealt away, with an announcement from the party headquarters Wednesday. Governor Rauner’s pick Tim Schneider will remain the IL GOP State Chairman for another four years, and Lake County Chairman Mark Shaw will “co-chair” in a new position on the SCC. And everyone – the Rauner wing of the party and the IL GOP Platform wing will be happy and united …? . . . In other words, the IL GOP conservatives will return to their worker bee positions in the party apparatus – knocking on doors, making phone calls, canvassing voters – while the IL GOP Rauner-paid staff hive queen bees call the shots and make public policy with no regard whatsoever to the IL GOP Platform. That’s the way many are seeing their “compromise” – one the Rauner Wing was willing to initiate because the conservatives on the SCC were confident they had the votes to elect Mark Shaw as the new party chairman – taking the IL GOP in a direction that simply would not blend well with Governor Rauner’s checkbook and piper tunes. The SCC members that told Illinois Review they were confident that they had the votes for a party leadership upheaval backed off Wednesday. “Jeanne Ives made a good statement on this agreement this morning. My views are very similar to hers,” 17th CD SSC member Stan Bond said Wednesday. “This agreement will give conservatives a stronger voice within the ILGOP and additionally provides the County Chairmen a permanent seat and voice on the party’s executive committee which surprisingly they have not had up until now.” . . . It’s too bad Mr. Shaw didn’t see fit to fight for the takeover of the IL GOP – so that the state’s party would reflect the rest of the nation’s Republican stance and not continue in the failed Democrat-lite direction its leadership has been pursuing for years. Those conservatives that hold to conservative principles first and the Republican Party affiliation second have been left with no political home for this election cycle. That’s an ugly reality, and one that must be processed.)

https://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Trump-convenes-friendly-Californians-to-rally-12920663.php
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The GOP desperately needs the injection of energy in California. Democrats have targeted several of the 14 congressional seats now held by Republicans as part of their effort to win back the House. The two main Republicans running for governor, Travis Allen and John Cox, have seized on the issue in hopes that at least one of them will survive the June 5 top-two primary. Failing to field a candidate in the November runoff could depress Republican turnout throughout the state. Trump said opposition to the law in California “has sparked a rebellion.” Ten counties and three dozen cities have supported the administration’s anti-sanctuary stance, nearly all of them in conservative parts of Southern California and the Central Valley.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The nation’s most vulnerable incumbent was forced to partially cede control over his party’s operations this morning, as news broke Rauner’s hand-picked party chairman agreed to be a “co-chairman” to avoid a divisive party vote. Politico Illinois wrote Rauner’s bowing to reality shows “weakness” and would “never could have happened under Rauner two years ago.” But Rauner still has not solved his biggest problem — winning back state Representative Jeanne Ives and the 48% of Republicans that supported her. Ives was skeptical of today’s news, warning that if this was the “typical surrender Republican Rauner play of buying people off with money and titles, that would not be good.” Her statement also showed she was not involved in the deal. She told CLTV last week they still have not spoken. “Bruce Rauner is fighting for his political life and he only has himself blame,” said DGA Illinois Communications Director Sam Salustro. “Rauner still has to find a way to win back the 48% of Republicans that voted to throw him out two months ago, and the millions of Democrats and Independents that are tired of watching Illinois fall behind under his failed leadership.”)

— NASCAR makes a push for ‘diversity’ (GOPUSA Editor Bobby Eberle’s Note: Or a person (not cynical) might see it as just another corporation that is bowing to the will of political correctness and “diversity”. If racing is a “rich man’s sport,” then how about a program to develop drivers from poor backgrounds REGARDLESS of the color of his or her skin? Hmmmmm??? Is there really a point here?)
http://www.gopusa.com/?p=45788
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A cynical person might write off NASCAR’s diversity efforts as a response to declining attendance and sagging ratings, a desperate attempt to tap into new demographics that could shore up the sport’s financials.)

NATIONAL REVIEW
— Stormy Daniels’s Lawyer Threatens to Sue Reporters for Digging into His Background – JACK CROWE (DIERSEN: What would reporters who disapproved of you find if they dug into your background? If reporters who disapproved of me dug into my background, they would find that a) I am no longer the TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairman, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee member, Milton Township Republican Central Committee webmaster, Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee member, or American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board member. They would find a) that my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, gave me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, got rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $19,203 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980; b) that my Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974; and c) that my Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968. They would find that I have been a Republican Precinct Committeeman since 1999 and the GOPUSA Illinois Editor since 2000. They would find that I am a Trump supporter, Protestant (baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, old (born in 1948), non-poor, gun owner, 100% German American, my ancestors have been in America since 1844, union member for almost 12 years, federal employee for almost 30 years, federal retiree for more than 20 years, childless, pet-less, American nameplate car owner, and even worse things. They would use the aforesaid to demonize, to denigrate, and to condemn me as being a White supremacist, Nazi, KKK member, hater, racist, sexist, bigot, and even worse things.)

— Officials resigned reportedly after pressure to cancel temporary protected status for immigrants – LORELEI LAIRD (DIERSEN: Of course, my Democrat IRS and GAO superiors hoped that pressuring me to give preference to my subordinates who were Democrat, minority, female, younger, disabled, and/or veteran would prompt me to resign rather than complain about it. — Why American teenagers are less likely to find a summer job – Jacob Passy (DIERSEN: What about teenagers taking “bad” jobs? What did you do during the summer between your junior and senior high school years? I washed dishes for the minimum wage in the basement of the S.S. Kresges in Chicago Heights. My understanding is a) that I am the only White male who held that job and b) that I held it longer than anyone else: November of 1964 through May of 1966. I earned and saved enough money doing that to buy a new 1966 Pontiac Tempest Sprint in May of 1966.)

WASHINGTON POST
— JANUARY 26, 2016 FLASHBACK: 600 ‘requests’ from Benghazi for better security: What this statistic really means – Glenn Kessler (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents hint/imply/argue/shout that there is no need for Illinois Republican Party (IRP) State Central Committee (SCC) members to communicate with Republican Precinct Committeemen/Captains directly because they communicate with a) Randy Pollard, the President of the Illinois Republican County Chairman’s Association, b) the chairmen of the Republican county/township/ward party organizations in their district, and c) the Republican elected officials in their district. However, far too often, far too many of the aforesaid fail/refuse to communicate with Republican Precinct Committeemen/Captains. I should write a book about it. Far too often, far too many of them communicate only with those Republican Precinct Committeemen who a) glorify and praise them, b) pander to them, c) serve as their operative or dupe, and/or d) give them money.)
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2016/01/26/600-requests-from-benghazi-for-better-security-what-this-statistic-really-means/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A key point that Republicans on the committee have tried to make was that Ambassador Chris Stevens — who perished in the 2012 attacks on U.S. facilities that left three others dead — did not directly communicate with Clinton on her private email system. (Generally, ambassadors would send messages through the chain of command.) So none of these came directly from Stevens to Clinton, “asking for help,” as Trump put it.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Nothing says classy quite like death. That is, dying in a way that gives back to others, whether that’s giving your possessions to charity or making your life’s accomplishments an example of what hard work and determination can earn. However, there’s one way we can all give back in death: ourselves. No, not in a metaphorical sense. Our bodies are rich in carbon, bacteria and other stuff that naturally decomposes into the environment with relative ease. That being said, it seems odd that to this day burial seems to be the preferred route of putting a loved one to eternal rest. Burial of an entire body in a metal and plastic coffin seems so off-putting and gaudy, not to mention contrary to the natural process of decomposition. While there are certain religious justifications, nonetheless the modern practice of burial is environmentally unfriendly and creates a future environmental crisis. Graveyards alone contain hundreds if not thousands of bodies, both subterranean and in mausoleums. With a large elderly and baby boomer population beginning to die off, many of these locations will be hard pressed to make room for more. The process, money and storage it takes to put the deceased in their own plot of land or on a marble shelf makes no sense. Furthermore, the resources that go into burials aren’t necessarily friendly to the earth. Since most coffins are made of plastic and varying metal alloys, they aren’t really known for their ability to break down. While the idea of being able to visit a loved one’s final resting place can be therapeutic or provide emotional closure, this practice is as wasteful as it is impractical.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: In a country that fetishizes youth, writing a book subtitled Why Life Gets Better After 50 is practically an act of revolution. But that’s exactly what the Jonathan Rauch has done. The Happiness Curve: Why Life Gets Better After 50 is a mind-blowing synthesis of social science and deeply moving personal accounts that will change the way you think about every stage of your life. Whether you’re in your early twenties, the thick of middle age, or your golden years, The Happiness Curve will help to explain not just what’s going on in your life now, but what to expect down the road. If knowledge is power, this book is pure dynamite. In a wide-ranging conversation with Nick Gillespie, Rauch explains why being aware of the aging process can help individuals be more productive and more fulfilled at every stage of life.)
