That is not who I am as a person.” Cooke, 50, is a Loyola University-educated lawyer. He also owns carwashes and gas stations in Chicago that have city, county and state contracts. That would have posed a “clear conflict of interest” when those government bodies had cases before him in traffic court, he says. Because of those contracts, he says it would have been “a violation of the highest order of the ethical rules governing judicial conduct if I heard traffic court cases” and also if he presided over criminal cases. Generally in such cases, Illinois Supreme Court rules say, “As soon as the judge can do so without serious financial detriment, the judge should divest himself or herself of investments and other financial interests that might require frequent disqualification.” Cooke says he tried unsuccessfully to get his partners to buy him out but doesn’t think he needed to divest himself of his business interests because that would have caused him serious financial harm. He also says his brief stint in traffic court proved difficult because he’s dyslexic. “Using acronyms or reading handwritten cursive or sloppy printing is very difficult for me,” he says. “I had tremendous difficulty reading the handwritten tickets and charges that were the basis of why the defendant were in court.” To run for judge, Cooke had moved from River Forest to an apartment he owns above his law office near the Logan Square CTA train station. That qualified him to run last year in the county’s Sixth Judicial Subcircuit.)

At The Citadel, five male freshmen alleged that Munoz used his positions as an upperclassman, class president and head of the campus Republican Society to grope them. In one incident, a student reported waking up with Munoz on top of him, kissing him and grabbing his genitals. In another, on a trip to the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C., a student said that Munoz jumped on him in bed and he “felt jerking and bouncing on my back.” An investigation by The Citadel later found that “certain assaults likely occurred.” A local prosecutor reviewed the case and declined to seek an indictment. Munoz’s hiring raises questions about the Trump administration’s vetting of political appointees, which has been both slow and spotty, with multiple incidents of staff being fired only weeks into their jobs, including for disloyalty to Trump. They knew that I wanted to be assigned to audits of IRS so that I could use my knowledge of IRS that I had gained by working for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $79,563-$90,173. So to get me to go back to IRS, they succeeded in keeping me off IRS audits until the end of 1985 when the GAO manager who had hired me finally succeeded in a) getting me assigned to audits of IRS and b) promoting me to GS-13, currently $94,610. But then, in 1987, the Democrats who ran GAO’s Chicago office succeeded in forcing him to retire. But there was a problem: The Multnomah County Republican Party was one of this year’s parade participants. At least it was a problem for an “antifa/anarchist” who sent an anonymous email to parade organizers Saturday, the Portland Mercury reported. According to the Mercury, the email sender threatened that if GOP members are allowed to participate in the parade, “we will have two hundred or more people rush into the parade into the middle and drag and push those people out as we will not give one inch to groups who espouse hatred toward LGBT, immigrants, people of color or others. In case the message was not clear to you this is a sanctuary city and state, and we will not allow these people to spread their views in East Portland.” The email, the Oregonian added, also promised: “You have seen how much power we have downtown and that the police cannot stop us from shutting down roads, so please consider your decision wisely. … This is non-negotiable.” As you’re likely getting used to hearing these days, parade organizers canceled the event Tuesday, fearing it could end in “the type of riots which happen in downtown Portland,” the Oregonian added. Parade officials had contacted police about the situation, but Rich Jarvis, a spokesman for the Rose Festival Foundation, told the Oregonian that police couldn’t provide additional security. So it was bye-bye parade. “The showdown was imminent,” Jarvis told the Oregonian. “They were boxed into a corner, they simply had no choice.
