CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Apply background checks for gun purchases to voting – John R. Lott Jr. (DIERSEN: Knowing that they cannot pass a background check is a major reason why people do not seek jobs with the federal government. Other major reasons include a) the pay and benefits are terrible, b) the advancement opportunities are terrible, c) they lack required education, work experience, professional certifications, and/or professional licenses, d) they cannot pass an employment examination, e) they cannot pass a physical examination, f) they cannot take the demonization, denigration, and condemnation that comes with being a federal employee or federal retiree, and g) they are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran and they know that the federal government discriminates against the aforesaid.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/commentary/ct-perspec-gun-background-checks-voting-0912-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republicans worry about vote fraud. Democrats claim that Republicans are just imagining things. But in testimony Tuesday before the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, I will suggest a simple solution that could make both parties happy: Apply the background check system for gun purchases to voting. Democrats have long lauded background checks on gun purchases as simple, accurate and in complete harmony with the Second Amendment right to own guns. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has bragged that the checks “make our communities and neighborhoods safer without in any way abridging rights or threatening a legitimate part of the American heritage.” If Democrats really believe that the National Instant Criminal Background Check System doesn’t interfere “in any way” with people’s constitutional rights to own a gun, doesn’t it follow that the same system would not constitute an infringement on people’s right to vote? This would give Republicans a system for stopping vote fraud and Democrats a system that they have already vigorously endorsed. The NICS system doesn’t just determine if potential gun buyers have criminal histories. It also checks whether a person is in this country illegally, has a nonimmigrant visa or has renounced his citizenship. Such people are not allowed to vote. The system doesn’t currently flag people who are on immigrant visas but who could be added to the system. In 34 states, felons are not able to vote immediately upon release. The background-check system would detect these too. Of course, Democrats and Republicans will continue to argue over whether illegal voting is a major problem. Since Democrats believe that the NICS doesn’t in any way interfere with or suppress gun ownership, how could it suppress legal voter registration? Thus, Democrats shouldn’t have anything to worry about. If there doesn’t turn out to be any vote fraud, Democrats can say that they were proved right.)

http://dailycaller.com/2017/09/11/exclusive-lawmaker-investigates-govt-employees-using-taxpayer-dollars-to-get-college-degrees-unrelated-to-their-jobs/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: GOP Texas Rep. Lamar Smith is demanding the Energy Department (DOE) turn over documents related to the agency paying for a government engineer’s law degree that was completely unrelated to his job. Smith wants to make sure more DOE employees aren’t having taxpayers foot the bill for college degrees completely unrelated to their jobs. Funding one engineer’s law degree cost taxpayers $138,000, agency auditors found in July. “The Committee is concerned this could be an indication of a more widespread occurrence of inappropriate training authorizations and expenditures within DOE,” wrote Smith, chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology. “To better understand this case, and learn what steps DOE has taken to prevent a similar occurrence in the future, we request that DOE provide certain documents and information to the Committee,” Smith wrote in a letter sent to Secretary of Energy Rick Perry on Tuesday. “The Committee has questions about why Darian Ghorbi received preferential treatment during his tenure at DOE under the prior administration,” Smith further wrote in the letter, a copy of which was obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation. DOE auditors reported in July that senior officials had allowed agency engineer Darian Ghorbi to take law classes at American University in Washington, D.C. at taxpayer expense. However, Ghorbi left DOE shortly after earning his law degree in May 2013 “for work in the private sector,” investigators found. DOE officials “had not considered the use of a continued service agreement for this employee despite the fact that he had taken extensive training at considerable cost.” What auditors found most unusual was that DOE already has policies in place to prevent this issue, but “these controls were overridden by senior management officials in the approval chain at the time.” Those senior management left no documentation of why they made their decision, and they couldn’t be interviewed by auditors “because they had left the agency,” auditors found. Ghorbi and his managers worked in DOE’s Office of Fossil Energy. President Donald Trump’s budget proposed shrinking the office 54 percent, from $618 million in 2017 to $280 million in 2018. Congress has already proposed legislation that reverses the cuts proposed by the White House. A House bill released in July only cuts the DOE’s fossil office $33 million.)

— Federal employees’ charitable giving reflects worry; reciting oath on video reflects pride and Trump counterpoint – Joe Davidson  (DIERSEN: Democrats run the federal government. Their top priority is to hire, to retain, and to promote Democrats, and especially Democrats who are minority, female, and/or younger. Of course, they are anti-Trump, and their giving more money to ACLU, SPLC, NRDC, Planned Parenthood, Sierra Club, and National Park Foundation proves it.)
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2017/09/11/feds-charitable-giving-reflects-worry-reciting-oath-on-video-reflects-pride/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Oath for Federal Employees: “I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.” . . . An analysis of contributions to the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), an umbrella charitable effort for federal employees, demonstrates “federal donors clearly reacted to the election of Trump in 2016, providing several charities with a sizable Anti-Trump bounce in their pledge results,” Marshall Strauss, chief executive of the Workplace Giving Alliance, said in an email Friday to his board of directors. The Alliance is a coalition of CFC organizations and reports on federal employee giving. “For example,” Strauss continued, “the American Civil Liberties Union [Foundation] was up almost 400 percent in comparison with its 2015 CFC results, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) saw its pledge number jump by 345 percent, and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) saw its pledge total jump 180 percent.” These organizations have taken principled stands against Trump’s harmful policies: ACLU says Trump wants to “Enshrine a Business Right to Discriminate Into the Constitution.” SPLC President Richard Cohen wrote about “the malignant bigotry at the heart of President Trump’s agenda.” NRDC tracks “Trumps attacks on the environment.” Planned Parenthood, the Sierra Club and the National Park Foundation also received significantly more in donations, according to the report.)

http://www.news-gazette.com/news/local/2017-09-10/tom-kacich-trump-supporter-joins-run-against-rauner.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: And Ray Tranchant of Catlin is the lieutenant governor candidate on what may be an even longer shot: Chicagoan William Kelly’s intraparty challenge to Gov. Bruce Rauner. Tranchant is a Navy veteran and a supporter of President Trump who said he has never run for office before. The two big reasons he wants to serve with Kelly, he said, are fiscal responsibility and illegal immigration. Tranchant, whose 16-year-old daughter Tessa was killed by an illegal immigrant from Mexico in an auto accident 10 years ago in Virginia Beach, Va., said he is particularly upset by Rauner’s decision last month to sign the Illinois TRUST Act, which restricts local law enforcement from collaborating with federal immigration agents to detain anyone unless the federal officials have a warrant. Tranchant called the legislation “a sanctuary bill” that would protect hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants in the Chicago area who now, he predicted, will move downstate. “We believe that they’re going to get out of there (Chicago), mainly come here, look for jobs and get aid and live in a better and safer environment,” said Tranchant, who said he “is in his early 60s” and had retained his Illinois residency even while in the military. “That’s going to cost our schools and services a lot of money. We don’t think it’s good.” Kelly, a conservative radio host in the Chicago area, called Rauner “the new Judas of the Republican Party” for signing the immigration legislation. “Today, unlike Bruce Rauner, we stand proudly with President Trump and the federal government,” Kelly said last week. “I will recall Rauner by defeating him in the 2018 GOP primary and repeal Illinois’ sanctuary state status by executive order. As governor, my first act will be to recognize the federal government’s exclusive power to make and enforce immigration law.” Tranchant said he also was upset with Rauner for allowing the state to operate without a budget for more than two years. “That hurts the state of Illinois as well,” said Tranchant. “Many of my friends who are Democrats voted for him because they wanted a change and they didn’t want the same old incestuous relationship that (former Gov.) Pat Quinn had with (House Speaker Michael) Madigan. We figured this guy was just like Trump, would make a difference, and so far, all he’s done is isolated himself and refused to do things.” In order to get on the ballot, Kelly, Tranchant and their allies will have to collect 5,000 to 10,000 signatures between now and early December. “We’ll get the 5,000 signatures,” Tranchant deadpanned. “I’ve got that many friends on Facebook.”)

DETROIT FREE PRESS
— Not on the agenda at Michigan Republican Party Mackinac conference: President Donald Trump – Paul Egan  (DIERSEN: Michigan Republican Party Chairman Ron Weiser says “As a party, we support the president — we support his policies.” But what if Trump goes against the Republican Party platform?  Republicans should always support the platform. If you do not like certain planks in the platform, you should try to get them changed. Of course, those who reject the traditional family, right to life, immigration, illegal drugs, equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving), and other planks in the Republican Party platform work against me. Of course, those who promote dependency on government and charity, LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, booze, gambling, pot, and other vices, patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, abolition of the First and Second Amendments, and even worse things work against me.  They say that “the platform is the problem.”)
http://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2017/09/09/michigan-republican-party-mackinac-conference-president-donald-trump/645799001/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: President Donald Trump has been using Twitter to attack Republican legislative leaders over their failure to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. Last week, Trump blindsided members of his own party when he cut a controversial deal with the Democrats to raise the debt ceiling and fund hurricane relief. Distractions resulting from an ongoing and wide-ranging investigation by special counsel and former FBI director Robert Mueller threaten to further derail the Republican agenda, including the promise of corporate and personal income tax cuts. Controversies surrounding the Republican president are captivating the country — and the world — and have some Republicans worried about how they will affect party fortunes in congressional midterms and other elections in 2018. But don’t look for those topics to be on the agenda when about 2,000 Republicans from Michigan and across the nation gather on Mackinac Island Sept. 22-24 for the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference — a major policy confab held every two years. Party leaders say the conference will be all about unity, and the focus will be on what’s happening in Michigan — not Washington, D.C. “As a party, we support the president — we support his policies,” Michigan Republican Party Chairman Ron Weiser said in an interview. “I don’t think there’s going to be any kind of controversy.” Tax reform, repeal and replace of Obamacare, immigration and infrastructure “are important and worthy of conversations,” said state party spokeswoman Sarah Anderson. But “unfortunately, we have a limited time for the conference, so there wasn’t a space for panels on those issues.” In addition to Gov. Rick Snyder, other state Republican leaders and members of Congress, speakers will include Trump loyalists such as Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens and U.S. Education Secretary and west Michigan businesswoman Betsy DeVos. Panel sessions will feature topics such as the influence of women in the party, successful Michigan business leaders, the news media, and “Michigan leading the nation” in terms of domestic policies and job creation. Though he comes from a neighboring state and is maintaining a high profile after his unsuccessful bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, don’t look for Ohio Gov. John Kasich, a frequent Trump critic, to be taking a ferry across the Straits of Mackinac. The emphasis on unity is reflected in the conference theme, “Together We Rise.” The agenda, which is still being finalized, also includes former Michigan Gov. John Engler and former Utah congressman Jason Chaffetz, who chaired the House oversight committee and is now a Fox News contributor. Organizers had hoped U.S. Vice President Mike Pence would be among the speakers, but he is unable to attend due to security complications, Weiser said.)

http://chicago.suntimes.com/columnists/laura-washington-what-about-sanctuary-for-us/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “Clearly black people have been written off by the Democratic Party,” Scott writes. “Institutional racism has led to an underclass of black people who have been locked out of the ‘dream’ this DACA group is given support and resources to pursue. The narrative now is we can’t do without these illegal immigrants!” For decades, black folks have sought sanctuary from the ceaseless gun violence ravaging our neighborhoods. We desperately crave refuge from the long march of black men who have been murdered and maimed by police brutality and misconduct, as our political “leaders” looked the other way. Black folks vainly seek salvation from economically crippled communities where poverty is pervasive and economic options are slim to none. Black people don’t begrudge help for their immigrant brothers and sisters. People of color are in this together, striving and sweating under the vicious heel of bigotry. But black voters, the Democratic Party’s most loyal constituency, wonder: What about sanctuary for us?)

HERALD REVIEW
— Rep. Mitchell, GOP group say no ‘chosen candidate’ for 101st House – RYAN VOYLES  (DIERSEN: Who does the choosing of candidates and who are the chosen candidates in your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, and in Illinois?  Many would argue, that because of his total domination of the Illinois Republican Party (IRP), that Bruce Rauner does all the choosing of Republican candidates in Illinois. Of course, that encourages candidates to pander to Rauner, to serve as operatives for Rauner, and to serve as dupes for Rauner. Of course, that encourages candidates to dump those planks in the IRP platform that Rauner has dumped.  Of course, that encourages everyone to dump those individuals, organizations, companies, and governments that Rauner has dumped. Of course, that hastens the collapse of the IRP.  According to my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dues, Rauner has dumped me.  They stress that Rauner does not read GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails.  They hint/imply/argue/shout that no one who Rauner listens to reads GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails.)

ILLINOIS CHRONICLE
— Sen. Sam McCann: Latest moderate Republican targeted by Rauner  (DIERSEN: Who do you “fall in line” with? Who targets you and why? I should write a book about activists, candidates, elected officials, party leaders, major donors, political consultants, etc. in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois who target me because I do not “fall in line” with them. They a) reject planks in the Republican Party platform and/or the Illinois Republican Party platform and work against those like me who support those planks, b) reject the Milton Township Republican Central Committee resolution against video gambling and work against those like me who support that resolution, c) focus on destroying those like me who they cannot manipulate/dominate, d) were defendants in lawsuits that I have filed, and/or e) are operatives or dupes for the aforesaid.)
https://theillinoischronicle.com/chronicle-latest-moderate-republican-targeted-by-rauner/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Rauner, who has almost exclusively personally funded the Illinois Republican Party, holds considerable leverage over lawmakers who defy him, which has until now led lawmakers to fall in line. He has another $70 million in his personal campaign fund, much of which has come from the Governor himself, that he could also use to target lawmakers who crossed him. In 2016, Rauner invested heavily in the race seeking to oust McCann, but ultimately McCann prevailed. The race was the most expensive primary race in Illinois history, costing $4.2 million. “I’m being attacked because I did what was right for this district,” McCann said at the time.)

I was available to work Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, holidays, and every day that NIU was not in session. In 1971, Oldsmobile withdrew a job offer that I had accepted saying that it had just agreed to stop hiring Whites to settle an EEOC complaint. After 1974, my Democrat IRS superiors made it clear that they would not promote me any more. In 1980, my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to take an $18,847 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO. My Democrat GAO superiors kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO. FORBES
— 3 Simple Steps To Keep Your Employees Talking To You Instead Of The Press – Claudia Chan  (DIERSEN: My Democrat IRS superiors were furious that I was the subject of a 4-page article in Money Magazine’s February 1978 issue because the article disclosed that IRS had hired in 1971 and had promoted in 1972, 1973, and 1974 someone who was Republican, non-veteran, White, and male INSTEAD OF someone who was Democrat, veteran, minority, or female.)

TECH REPUBLIC
— Students from these 10 universities are most likely to become millionaires – Alison DeNisco (DIERSEN: One could argue that if you do not have at least $1 million dollars or are on track to have at least $1 million dollars by the time that you retire, you are in big trouble and no one should seek or take your advice.)

TIME
— President Trump Said DACA Recipients ‘Have Nothing to Worry About.’ That’s Not Exactly True – Maya Rhodan  (DIERSEN: What have you had to worry about? Because I have always been a Republican, while I worked for the federal government 1966-1969 and 1971-1997, I always had to worry about what my Democrat superiors would do next to get rid of me. To counter their efforts to get rid of me, I earned a) a job-related bachelor’s degree in 1970 when I was 21 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) a job-related professional license when I was 32.)

FEDERAL NEWS RADIO
— National Treasury Employees Union launches campaign to remind voters federal employees work for them, not politicians – David Thornton  (DIERSEN: I was a NTEU member 1971-1980 while I worked for IRS. While I worked for the federal government for almost 30 years, my superiors were always under pressure from Democrat politicians a) to hire, to retain, and to promote Democrats, and especially Democrats who were minority, female, and/or younger and b) to make way for them by getting rid of their employees who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)

— Escaping retirement change: Can you beat the clock? – Mike Causey  (DIERSEN: My Civil Service Retirement System pension is based on my highest three-year average salary. For me, that was 1995, 1996, and 1997.  My salary would have been much higher during those years if my Democrat GAO superiors had not stopped from being promoted beyond GS-13 and had not always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes.)
https://federalnewsradio.com/mike-causey-federal-report/2017/09/escaping-retirement-change-can-you-beat-the-clock/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Of all the threats that have faced the federal retirement program over many years the one that seems to frighten feds the most is the proposal to change the formula used to compute their future annuities. Under the current system, pensions are based on the employee’s length of service (time in government) and highest three-year average salary. Once again, the administration is talking (key word talking) about changing that formula to use the employee’s highest five-year average salary.)
