(FROM THE ARTICLE: The most devastating problem is the very weak black family structure. Less than a third of black children live in two-parent households and illegitimacy stands at 75%. The “legacy of slavery” is often blamed. Such an explanation turns out to be sheer nonsense when one examines black history. Even during slavery, where marriage was forbidden, most black children lived in biological two-parent families. Professor Herbert G. Gutman’s research in “The Black Family in Slavery and Freedom 1750-1925” found that in three-fourths of 19th-century slave families, all the children had the same mother and father. In New York City, in 1925, 85% of black households were two-parent. In fact, “Five in six children under the age of six lived with both parents.” During slavery and as late as 1920, a black teenage girl raising a child without a man present was a rarity. An 1880 study of family structure in Philadelphia shows that three-quarters of all black families were nuclear families. There were only slight differences in family structure between racial groups. The percentages of nuclear families were: black (75.2%), Irish (82.2%), German (84.5%), and native white Americans (73.1%). Only one-quarter of black families were female-headed. Female-headed families among Irish, German, and native white Americans averaged 11%. According to the 1938 Encyclopaedia of the Social Sciences, only 11% of black children and 3% of white children were born to unwed mothers. As Thomas Sowell reported: “Going back a hundred years, when blacks were just one generation out of slavery, we find that census data of that era showed that a slightly higher percentage of black adults had married than white adults. This fact remained true in every census from 1890 to 1940.” The absence of a father in the home predisposes children, especially boys, to academic failure, criminal behavior, and economic hardship, not to mention an intergenerational repeating of handicaps. If today’s weak family structure is a legacy of slavery, then the people who make such a claim must tell us how it has managed to skip nearly five generations to have an effect.)

Claar did not respond to calls inquiring about his retirement Thursday and even hung up the phone after he was contacted by The Herald-News, but Village Trustee Michael Carpanzano said Claar is retiring because he wants to spend more time with his family. Carpanzano said he didn’t think there was another mayor besides Claar more connected with residents. “Everyone knows him as the guy who is going to get things done and he got things done for Bolingbrook,” Carpanzano said. Carpanzano said Claar’s last village board meeting will be on Tuesday. He said Claar has hinted at his retirement all year and that he plans to spend time in California with his granddaughter. He said Claar will likely continue to spend time in Illinois as well. Claar first became mayor in 1986 to fill a vacancy and has been elected to the post 10 times since then. Carpanzano credited the explosion of Bolingbrook’s population over the decades to Claar. “He brought not only an industrial base to the town but a retail base, a hospital, an airport, a beautiful country club and entire outdoor shopping center. His vision really saw all that through,” Carpanzano said. Claar was the subject of a 2007 Chicago magazine profile that noted during his time as mayor he’s overseen a “huge increase” in the range of housing prices, a “near doubling” of the village’s population and that he’s “brought in business, most obviously in the form of the shallow canyon of distribution centers you drive through on I-55 between Chicago and I-80.” “Along the way, he’s bolstered himself just as dramatically, amassing a huge campaign war chest and making strategic political ties to become one of the most powerful mayors in Illinois,” according to Chicago magazine. Claar’s mayoral opponent Jackie Traynere, a Will County board member, claimed Claar plans to remain in control of Bolingbrook and fund the next mayor’s campaign. “The only reason he’s not putting his name on the ballot is because he knows he’ll be beaten,” Traynere said. She suggested Claar would support Bolingbrook Deputy Mayor Michael Lawler as the next mayor. Lawler failed to respond to a message and Claar failed to return a call on the issue on Thursday afternoon. Traynere said when people look at communities that surround Bolingbrook, such as Naperville and Romeoville, they see positive growth. But what they don’t see in those communities is the massive debt that Bolingbrook has, she said. “So when you give Roger credit for the growth, you need to give him credit for the debt,” she said. Traynere fell 151 votes short in the 2017 election that highlighted Claar’s controversial support of U.S. President Donald Trump. Traynere said Claar inviting Trump to Bolingbrook Golf Club — also known as the “Rog Mahal” — was the catalyst for her run for mayor. Trump’s visit in 2016 led to up to 200 people protesting outside the golf club for several hours. Claar has said he doesn’t agree with everything Trump says but also thinks what Trump says has been twisted and distorted. Claar’s support of Trump also attracted vandalism at his home on Sept. 20, 2017, from Rae Tuszynski, 32, who spray-painted a message on his garage calling him a “Nazi Trump lover” and at least seven swastikas on his property. Tuszynski pleaded guilty to threatening a public official, criminal damage to property and committing a hate crime against Claar. “With all due respect, I’m a transgender Puerto Rican and you (have a) hate crime against an old white man,” Tuszynski said.)

Mayor Claar tells WJOL that his 5-year old granddaughter who lives in California with his daughter Lindsey and her husband Trevor is calling his name. He wants to spend more time with his wife Pat and will be traveling to California a lot, although he says he will not be moving there. He’ll be 75 in November and says his daughter who is 37 grew up while he was a very active mayor and wasn’t home much. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Outspoken conservative firebrand Michelle Malkin was attacked Sunday by Black Lives Matter activists intent ion shutting down a “Back the Blue” rally in Denver. The peaceful pro-police event was underway at Civic Center Park when BLM activists and others wearing black-bloc and armed with collapsible batons — Malkin identified them online as Antifa — crashed the stage. Malkin can be heard in video of the attack screaming at the violent mob to get back. Not mincing words, she called the woman attacking them “b*tches” in a tweet, and said she was sprayed in the face with aerosol string and another man was beaten with a longboard. Video of the incident shows aggressive antagonists being allowed to walk right up to the very edge of the stage. Malkin shared a photo of the man she said was beaten by the mob. Malkin noted that police sat idly by doing nothing as the chaos ensued. According to the Denver Post, police “attempted to form a line around the two groups, but could not completely separate them.” The newspaper also said Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen asked the group “to reschedule or move the pro-police rally.” Malkin tweeted: “Denver Police Chief Pazen, who marched with BLM last month, let pro-police patriots get beaten and silenced.” In addition to BLM, the counter-demonstrators included the Party for Socialism and Liberation and the Afro-Liberation Front, according to KMGH-TV. The ABC affiliate reported the mob was “armed with pots and pans, whistles, hand-held sirens and other noise making gear,” and that they “crashed the Pro-Police rally and drowned out those trying to speak.” Almost reluctantly, KMGH-TV acknowledged that there were “a few scuffles between members of the two groups.” “There’s not much else to say other than every cop here is a terrorist by association,” Black Lives Matter supporter Hale Rardin told the station. Malkin took exception to how the local reporter she responded to above, KUSA-TV reporter Kyle Clark, tried to painted a “moral equivalency” between the peaceful pro-police group and the violent BLM mob attacking them. Pepper balls and a can of pepper spray were later deployed to disperse BLM activists, after police say some people “made aggressive moves” toward officers. In a somewhat foreboding wrap up, Malkin tweeted: “I’m ok. America is not.” An assessment that has merit, given the radical lawlessness seen from the left today, who intend to shut down all speech not in line with their hard-left views and are more than willing to use violence to do so, if necessary.
