(FROM THE ARTICLE: State Sen. Darren Bailey is among the growing list of lawmakers to come out against new legislation. According to KSKD, DuPage County Sheriff Jim Mendrick, the top law enforcement officer in the state’s second-largest county, is also among law enforcement officials who have declared they will not be enforcing the law, branding it as facing “a clear violation of the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.” In a recent Facebook post, Bailey expressed that background checks for firearms make sense. However, additional restrictions are not necessary. “We can say, alright, ‘Shall not be infringed,’ but yet we understand that sometimes these guns fall into the hands of the wrong person. So we have the federal, you know, firearm background check. That’s exactly what it does, and I don’t see anyone arguing that. But to come here into Illinois and to add the FOID card, and to continue to add these restrictions, that’s an infringement,” Bailey said in a Facebook post. Illinois state residents will be informed further on the new law for firearms once it is fully enforced. Under the terms of the new law, residents will be allowed to keep guns they have already purchased or obtained, along with newly relocated residents being eligible to apply for a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card within 60 days of making the state their new home. Illinois State Police are writing new administrative rules to explain how to enforce the assault weapons ban, with The Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) being the final voice in determining what rules are officially adopted before state police eventually circulate them to other law enforcement agencies across the state.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Two Republicans have applied for the state House seat left vacant by Rep. Jim Durkin, R-Western Springs, a party leader confirmed Thursday. But the leader declined to release the names. In a message to Patch, DuPage County Republican Party Chairman Jim Zay said the selection committee plans to meet Thursday night about the candidates for 82nd District state representative. He said the names would not be released until after that meeting, saying the committee would need to talk to all its members about it. Both Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso and Willow Springs Village President Melissa Neddermeyer have confirmed to Patch that they did not apply. Democrats and Republicans have no legal requirement to disclose the names of candidates who apply for legislative posts left vacant by party members. In fact, the parties have been known to keep the information under wraps. The 82nd District includes all or parts of Western Springs, La Grange, Hinsdale and Burr Ridge, among other towns. Durkin, who resigned last month, was the House Republican leader. In Illinois, a state representative’s district consists of about 105,000 people. Republicans plan to hold a public meeting involving interviews of “select” candidates, according to a party news release.
