(FROM THE ARTICLE: A group of over 250 journalists implored members of the Beltway press corps to “forcefully demonstrate opposition” to President Trump at the ritzy White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday. Trump, 79, is set to attend the swanky dinner for the first time in his presidency. But the group of 250 reporters is demanding that the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) ensure he doesn’t feel welcome. “We believe the White House Correspondents Association should take stronger action by issuing — from the podium — a forceful defense of freedom of the press and condemnation of those who threaten that freedom, followed by a standing toast to the First Amendment,” the letter to members of the WHCA said. “Speak forcefully, in front of the man who seeks to undermine our country’s long tradition of an independent, strong, and free press.” The WHCA, which represents the White House press corps, is organizing the annual dinner and has clashed with Trump repeatedly over the past year. Early last year, the White House press team began meddling in the pool rotation, in which outlets take turns getting special access to the president to share their notes and footage with everyone else. Historically, the WHCA has set the pool rotation. Notably, the White House has left the WHCA in charge of determining outlet seat locations in the press briefing room. Prominent veteran journalists such as former CBS News anchor Dan Rather, infamous for erroneous reporting on President George W. Bush’s military service, and former ABC News anchor Sam Donaldson signed the missive. Groups such as the Society of Professional Journalists, the Coalition for Women in Journalism, the National Association of Black Journalists, the Freedom of the Press Foundation, and more signed it as well. The letter aired a litany of grievances against Trump, such as his defamation suits against various outlets, alleged favoritism toward conservative media, and Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr’s offensive tactics. Another complaint was Trump’s decision to pardon Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol rioters, which the letter claims sends a “message that attacks on the press will be forgiven.” They also noted in the letter that many journalists attending the ritzy dinner on Saturday intend to wear lapel pins or pocket handkerchiefs emblazoned with the words of the First Amendment as a more low-key protest. The call for protests comes amid polling pegging trust in the media at all-time lows, particularly among Republican voters. Last year, Gallup found that only 28% of the public has a great or fair amount of trust in mass media. Last year, the WHCA was pressured to cancel comedian Amber Ruffin, whom it tapped to headline the feted dinner after she publicly called the Trump administration a “bunch of murderers,” and complained about being asked to tone down her material. This year, the WHCA has tapped mentalist Oz Pearlman as the night’s main entertainment instead of a traditional comedian. The last time Trump attended a White House Correspondents’ Dinner was 2011, when then-President Barack Obama mercilessly roasted him for peddling conspiracy theories about Obama’s birth certificate. “Because the Press was extraordinarily bad to me, FAKE NEWS ALL, right from the beginning of my First Term, I boycotted the event, and never went as Honoree,” Trump explained on Truth Social last month. “However, I look forward to being with everyone this year. Hopefully, it will be something very Special.” The Post contacted the WHCA for comment. It has attracted generations of immigrants of every race and creed, often arriving with little more than a suitcase and the firm belief that their hard work and determination would be rewarded. Yet Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s newly released Preliminary Citywide Racial Equity Plan—a 375-page monument to grievance politics and DEI—treats this urban engine of opportunity as a machine of oppression, in which “systemic racism” explains every gap in wealth, health, and achievement.
Released to great fanfare alongside a True Cost of Living report that dutifully slices data by race, Mamdani’s equity plan orders 45 agencies to view every budget line, hiring decision, and service through a “racial equity lens.” The result? More than 800 strategies and 600 indicators across seven domains—including economy, housing, education, and safety—that clothe institutionalized racial preferences in the garb of justice and will cost the city untold millions of dollars. The “missions and commitments” of city agencies are described with terms like diversity, equity, inclusion (listed separately so that the plan cannot be labeled DEI or critical theory), systemic disparity, racism, racial inequities, representation, discrimination, bias, segregation, and marginal. The agencies’ goals are to reinterpret their histories as structurally biased, to conduct extensive anti-bias trainings, to disaggregate data until disparities are all but guaranteed to appear, and then to align spending and policy decisions with predetermined equity targets, such as in hiring or minority- or women-owned business enterprise (M/WBE) procurement requirements. Mamdani’s equity plan is not the product of neutral analysis. It is a framework that presumes its conclusions and then operationalizes them. The result will be a city government less flexible and empirically oriented, one virtually obligated to see every outcome and process from a racial perspective. Searching keyword frequency offers insight into the plan’s identity hierarchy: “race,” including its variants “racist,” “racial,” and “racism,” appears 751 times. “Black” appears 189 times, “Latin” and “Hispanic” 97 times, “color” and “white” 49, “Asian” 27, and “Jew” or “Jewish” just once. In a sweeping, discrimination-obsessed government plan, a single, cursory mention of the group most disproportionately affected by bias attacks is striking. Jews have made up the largest share of hate-crime victims in New York City since 2000, when systematic tracking began. In recent years, even amid waves of attacks against Asians, attacks on Jews accounted for more than half of all hate-crime incidents (57 percent last year)—far in excess of the Jewish proportion of New York City residents. The word “merit” also gets but a single mention in the equity plan, relating to the New York State Civil Service Law requirement that candidates take a test to determine their qualifications for many jobs. The plan notes that this requirement reduced some groups’ “representation” in various positions. This suggests Mamdani’s readiness to favor identity-based characteristics over individual merit in civil service hiring. Dumbing down the test, for example, would align with the plan’s stated aim to produce equal employment outcomes across identity groups, reducing “gaps” without regard to actual performance in order to reach the goal of “equitable hiring.” This approach would undermine the very systems that once drove the city’s growth.)

In the contested Governor race, Ted Dabrowski got 66 votes, Darren Bailey 32, James Mendrick 27, and Rick Heidner 11. Bailey won statewide. In the contested Secretary of State race, Diane Harris got 76 votes and Walter Adamczyk 48. Harris won statewide. In the Treasurer race, Max Solomon got 5 write-in votes. He will be on the November 3, 2026 ballot. In the contested Sheriff race, Sean Noonan got 72 votes and Eddie Moore 61. Noonan won countywide. In the contested Judge of the Appellate Court Third Judicial District race, Jason Helland got 71 votes and Mark Senak 47. Helland won districtwide. In the uncontested races, Grant Eckhoff was the high vote getter with 129. The Milton Township Proposition got 187 no votes and 147 yes votes. The proposition lost townshipwide. The November 3, 2026 general election will be here before we know it. Early voting starts on September 24, 2026. You almost have to admire how far some Republicans are willing to go to lose the 2026 midterms — and ultimately, the country. Throughout their recent two-week vacation, several GOP lawmakers have been making the media rounds to tout “bipartisan” legislation they claim will finally solve America’s broken immigration system. There’s just one teensy-weensy important detail that somehow gets brushed aside: The bill would allow millions of illegal aliens to continue living in the United States. Sponsored by Reps. Maria Elvira Salazar, R-Fla., Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., and other lawmakers, the so-called DIGNIDAD (Dignity) Act permits “certain long-term undocumented immigrants to earn legal status, without amnesty or a path to citizenship” so that foreign nationals who broke U.S. immigration law can have an “opportunity,” according to a Salazar press release. The measure would notably create a “Dignity Program,” which the Florida congresswoman’s office described as a “7-year earned legal status program allowing undocumented immigrants to live and work legally, with renewable status based on good conduct and restitution.” The revived push to pass the bill appears to be part of sponsors’ recently announced “Dignity Tour” to rally support for the measure and get it through Congress. It’s bad enough that the legislation’s sponsors felt compelled to give it a deceptive (and dumb) name like the “DIGNIDAD Act.” But it’s even worse that its promoters like Salazar are trying to gaslight Republican voters into thinking that the measure is anything but one giant amnesty package. America is either a nation with defined borders and laws, or it’s not. There is no in-between. But rather than fulfill their 2024 campaign pledges to ensure the former, it’s clear some Republicans are content with handing out amnesty to foreign lawbreakers like candy on Halloween. Such a proposal isn’t just asinine because it cripples America’s sovereignty and long-term survival as a nation. It’s also incredibly moronic from a political standpoint. Aside from the “One Big Beautiful Bill” that they never effectively sold to voters, Republicans have virtually nothing to show for their congressional majorities. The Senate GOP still hasn’t passed the SAVE America Act, rogue judges continue to go unpunished, many of Trump’s executive orders haven’t been codified into law, and other conservative priorities remain untouched. So, exactly what are voters — including those who identify as Republicans — supposed to vote for this fall? Amnesty? More GOP obstruction of the conservative policies they were promised but are now told aren’t possible with Republican majorities? The Grand Old Party doesn’t have an answer — and it shows. The headwinds Republicans are facing this fall became evident on Tuesday night, when Democrats continued their domination of special and off-year elections since the 2024 contest. In Wisconsin, leftists easily expanded their majority on the state Supreme Court. Meanwhile, Democrats in Georgia significantly overperformed in the special House race to fill the seat left open by former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga. The dynamic at play is one that’s existed for decades. While voters punish Democrats for abusing power when they have it, they punish Republicans for never using it to begin with. Shilling for amnesty is not going to give the GOP a fighting chance this fall. And neither is repeatedly stonewalling the policies they campaigned on. Only implementing a conservative agenda that addresses the needs of the electorate will. Should Republicans ignore this reality and decline to act on it, they should prepare to be demolished at the ballot box this November. And by every measure, they’ll have deserved it.)
