I earned an MBA from Loyola in 1976 and I passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979. In 1980, because I was not a Democrat, minority, female, veteran. and/or younger, GAO forced me to suffer a $21,863/year (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO. My Democrat GAO superiors gave me unfair job assignments, performance expectations, and performance appraisals. They assigned me to supervised all their most problematic employees. The kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO. They delayed my promotions and never promoted me beyond GS-13. They used AA to promote over me my coworkers who were minority, female, and/or veteran and a) who had less job-related work experience than I had, b) who had less job-related education than I had, and/or c) who had not taken the CPA or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) examinations, let alone passed them. I earned a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980, I passed the CIA examination on my first attempt in 1981, I became a licensed CPA in 1981, I became a Certified Fraud Examiner in 1990, Government Financial Manager in 1994, Financial Services Auditor in 1996, and Forensic Accountant in 1997, and I earned a master’s degree in financial markets and trading from IIT in 1997. They always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes. They forced me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 and gave my job and my preferred corner office to my Black subordinate. I have been unemployed since September 30, 1997 a) when I was 49 years old, b) when my Democrat GAO superiors succeeded in forcing me to take their early retirement “offer,” and c) when GAO’s early retirement option ended. Reasons why my Democrat GAO superiors succeeded in forcing me to retire included a) they had the power to make the 6 more years that I needed to be eligible for regular retirement a living hell, b) they had made it extremely clear that they would use that power to do that, c) GAO was not unionized, d) I could not count on my U.S. Senator or my U.S. Congressman or anyone else to come to my defense because of my terrible demographics (conservative, Republican, White, male, old, draft-avoider, non-poor, Protestant, German American, and my ancestors had been in America since 1844), e) my wife had a good job, f) we had no dependents, g) we had no debts, h) we had retirement savings, i) we owned 915 Cove Court in Wheaton and six cars (1997 Chevrolet Cavalier, 1996 Ford Thunderbird LX, 1990 Ford Thunderbird LX, 1972 Corvette, 1968 Dodge Charger R/T, and 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS), j) my Civil Service Retirement System pension would be $63,144/year in today’s dollars, and k) the federal government would pay 72% of our health insurance premiums for the rest of our lives.
