The goal, the party’s state central committee agreed, was to select someone by as soon as Jan. 30 to replace Tim Schneider, who announced last month he was stepping down after more than six years in the post. Schneider is leaving the post before his term ends May 23 amid a push by conservative hard-liners on the 18-member committee who sought someone more in line with their views, even though Schneider was an ardent supporter of President Donald Trump’s reelection bid. . .The state GOP leadership committee will meet on Jan. 23 to screen applicants and schedule a date to meet with finalists.
