She would have fought the Post Office hiring me in 1966 instead of someone who shared her demographics. In my defense, I would not have become postal employee when I was 18 years old in 1966 if my high school friend had not asked me to take the postal employment test with him. I would not have become an IRS employee when I was 22 years old in 1971 if Oldsmobile had not agreed to stop hiring Whites to settle an EEOC complaint. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Asked by the News Literacy Project for one word to describe today’s news media, 84% of teens responded with something negative — “biased,” “crazy,” “boring,” “fake, ”bad,” “depressing,” “confusing,” “scary.” More than half of the teens surveyed believe journalists regularly engage in unethical behaviors like making up details or quotes in stories, paying sources, taking visual images out of context or doing favors for advertisers. Less than a third believe reporters correct their errors, confirm facts before reporting them, gather information from multiple sources or cover stories in the public interest — practices ingrained in the DNA of reputable journalists. To some degree, teens reflect the attitudes they’re exposed to, particularly when the most prominent politician of their age has made “fake news” a mantra. Experts say few teens follow news regularly or learn in school about the purpose of journalism. Journalists don’t help themselves with mistakes or ethical lapses that make headlines. Opinionated reporters or commentators in an era of political division make readers wonder what to believe. “Some of this (attitude) is earned, but much of it is based on misperception,” said Peter Adams, senior vice president of research and design for the Washington-based News Literacy Project. There are ways to turn things around, but it will take work. Many of Lily Ogburn’s classmates get their information from social media. Their parents didn’t watch or read news reports as they grew up, so they didn’t pick up the habit, said Ogburn, a senior at Northwestern University’s journalism school. Ogburn is the former editor-in-chief at the well-regarded Daily Northwestern student newspaper. The newspaper’s 2023 reports on alleged hazing and racism within the school’s football program led to the ouster of its coach. Still, she found some students don’t understand the newspaper’s role; they believe it exists to protect people in power rather than hold them accountable. She frequently had to explain what she did to classmates. “There’s a lot of mistrust toward journalists,” she said. But it has firmed her resolve to stick with the profession. “I want to be a journalist that people trust,” Ogburn said, “and I want to report news that makes people believe and trust in the media.” The news industry’s financial troubles over the past two decades have hollowed out newsrooms and left fewer journalists on duty. Along with not seeing much legitimate journalism, young people frequently don’t experience it through popular culture — unlike a previous generation, which learned in detail how Washington Post reporters Robert Woodward and Carl Bernstein exposed the Watergate scandal in the Academy Award-winning movie “All the President’s Men.” When the News Literacy Project asked, two-thirds of teens couldn’t think of anything when asked what movies or TV shows come to mind when they think about journalism. Those who had answers most frequently cited the “Spider-Man” franchise or the movie “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.” Neither portrayal was particularly flattering. Upon retiring as editor of Newsday, Howard Schneider helped develop the State University of New York system’s first School of Journalism. But instead of teaching future writers, editors or producers, he became drawn to teaching non-journalists about being news consumers. (FROM THE ARTICLE: To bring our nation back to legitimate self reliance would require a total reformation of our society and the removal of the political left (including globalists) from the equation. Part of this long term reformation demands a reversal of open borders ideology and multiculturalism, which has ravaged the west. Migrants view our economy as a “global commons”, a wealth pool they are all entitled to access. They don’t see it is a privilege, they see it as a “right”. This is something that Trump does have the capacity to fix in the three years he has left in office, but he has a tendency to get sidetracked by minutia and bad advice. I have been warning since before Trump was re-elected that the economy was going to be his Achilles Heal. From past examples it seems that Trump delegates a lot of his policy ideas to advisers and among these advisers (he has dozens of them, official and unofficial) there are always people who give him suicidal arguments and terrible talking points. His lack of concrete planning for economic repair is putting conservatives on edge and handing immense social influence over to Democrats and woke activists. All they have to do is point at the lack of a clear strategy and suggest that they can do better (they can’t, but it won’t matter to voters living paycheck to paycheck). Trump has done some things right. His tariff policies are absolutely necessary to counter the wealth gap created by corporate globalism. The US has been turned into a consumer nation that continuously takes on debt in order to create ever depreciating wealth. That wealth is then siphoned from the public by international conglomerates, banks and foreign interests. We are being slowly drained of our lifeblood by a nest of vampires. Tariffs are one of the few measures at Trump’s disposal to unilaterally stop the bleeding and force corporations to bring the wealth and jobs back to the US. This is done through new domestic manufacturing and the end of general outsourcing using third world labor. Globalism is NOT the free market, it is the opposite. It is forced interdependency of nations and economies to the benefit of a tiny handful of ultra-wealthy elites. The tariff fight is direct and Trump’s reasons are evident. The average Joe wants more American jobs with higher salaries for the middle class instead of wallowing in low-wage retail and service sector hell. But Trump can’t say he’s fighting for this end result through tariffs and then turn around and let an army of migrants take middle class jobs. The President stumbled into multiple forehead slapping blunders this past week. He called for 600,000 Chinese students to prop up US colleges. He called for 50-year mortgages to offset plunging home ownership, and he argued that America doesn’t have the talent pool to fill jobs taken by H1B foreigners.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Between 1892 and 1954, approximately 12 million immigrants arrived at the now-iconic Ellis Island to enter the U.S. — or nearly 200,000 legal entries per year. All were registered, documented, and given rudimentary health exams. They arrived as rich and poor, white and non-white, and, without exception, legally. With the gradual decline of such great influxes, Ellis Island finally ceased operating roughly 71 years ago. Yet Ellis Island’s successful tenure offers a sharp contrast to the failures of our recent open-border catastrophes. Americans will never know how many immigrants swarmed the southern border between 2021 and 2025, when former President Joe Biden and his impeached Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas destroyed federal immigration law as we once knew it. By design, they allowed between 10 and 12 million foreign nationals to make a mockery of federal immigration laws by swarming the southern border. Many crossers grew violent at any sign of even meek efforts by ICE officers to enforce the law. Border Patrol officers were often mocked, threatened, and assaulted by arriving illegal aliens. Officers were unsure as to what was worse: the occasional violence from illegal immigrants or retaliation from the Biden administration if they sought to enforce federal law and block illegal entrants. So the Biden administration pulled off the near impossible. In a mere four years, it had invited in almost as many illegal immigrants as had entered through Ellis Island legally over seven decades. But unlike past immigrants, we now witness organized violence against ICE officials. We see Orwellian scenes of mobs burning the American flag — the flag of the country they demand to stay in — while waving the flags of the countries they have no desire or intention of returning to. In sum, three generations ago, a smaller, poorer, but wiser America properly solved its immigration problem at Ellis Island — welcoming in immigrants orderly and legally with health and background screenings. In contrast, during the Biden years, we, in our arrogance and affluence, engaged in a great experiment — or rather misadventure. Never in our history has the U.S. been home to roughly 53 million foreign-born residents. Never have immigrants comprised nearly 16 percent of the population. Never has California had 27% of its residents not born in the U.S. Never have we allowed in up to 10,000 aliens a day, with little concern for whether they carried fentanyl, had criminal records, were sick, were unvaccinated, were traffickers, or belonged to violent gangs. Worse still, the Biden administration made zero effort to acculturate, integrate, and assimilate this massive influx. In fact, they did the very opposite of Ellis Island’s protocols, which fostered pro-American values, melting-pot integration, and respect for American history and culture. Once upon a time, new arrivals were all expected to become Americans — or why else had they come? Now, the moment an illegal alien has entered the U.S., he likely senses that his ethnicity or race will be essential to his identity. In the minds of the ruling DEI commissariat, claiming a tribal identity offers an easy pathway to generous housing, food, healthcare, legal, and educational entitlements. So, under Biden’s immigration non-policy, almost all illegal immigrants were immediately categorized as victims in the Marxist binary ledger that now divides America into the oppressed vs. the oppressors. If one devised a plan to damage America, he could not have done better than further dividing us by tribal chauvinism, overwhelming our fragile social services so essential to struggling Americans, and fueling the already dangerous neo-Confederate state and local nullifications of federal law and the growth of “sanctuary cities.” Daily, we witness performance-art mayors and governors boasting of how they “resist” federal law enforcement. These modern rebels pose as if they are our own era’s versions of mini-Confederate states. They now brag of states’ rights as they dare the federal government to protect its own property and enforce federal laws within their parochial jurisdictions. Why did Biden — or whoever was making policy in his place — destroy the border? What was his utterly mad intent? To alter the nation’s demography by importing future Democratic constituents dependent on state largesse? To bow to the demands of his DEI base? To mindlessly do the opposite of the prior Trump administration, which had closed the border and returned to legal-only immigration? Virtue signaling while waving illegal aliens across an open border is easy. But trying to close the border and return millions who entered unlawfully to their homelands is nearly impossible. (FROM THE ARTICLE: On Tuesday, New Yorkers — by a slight majority, but a majority nonetheless — endorsed Zohran Mamdani and the proud, unrepentant form of socialism he champions as the answer to, as least as he presents it, all of their woes. “We will prove that there is no problem too large for government to solve, and no concern too small for it to care about,” Mamdani declared during his victory speech, an inversion of Ronald Reagan’s famous truism. At least some of the Big Apple’s lurch to the far left is attributable to the 34-year-old’s undeniable political talent. But there are greater, or — to be blunt — more sinister forces at work. Most insidious of all are two intertwined lies: that Americans today have it worse than their forebearers and that their wealthy peers bear the blame for their plight. Campaigning is the art of hearing people, and Mamdani heard New Yorkers better than anyone. They and their countrymen remain alarmed by the cost of living across a wide variety of goods and services: from housing, to groceries, to child care to transportation. These are real concerns that no voter should be ashamed of expressing and every politician worth their salt ought to devote their time and energy to alleviating. These justifiable feelings have been unjustly compounded, though, by progressives’ relentless demoralization campaign. Want to buy a house? Not in this economy, they say. Need health care? Good luck. Are you hopeful your kids will enjoy a better life than you did? They won’t. Never mind whether any of that is true, these claims are meant to discourage Americans into handing more power over to the government — and it’s working. Moreover, the treatment Mamdani and his comrades propose will make New Yorkers’ real problems worse. Instead of telling his soon-to-be constituents that they are the masters of their own lives — and trying to cultivate the necessary conditions for them to improve their lot — the mayor-elect’s message to his followers is that they have somehow been gipped. His celebration of his ticket to Gracie Mansion on Tuesday included denunciations of “bad landlords” and “billionaires,” as well the assertion, “For as long as we can remember, the working people of New York have been told by the wealthy and the well-connected that power does not belong in their hands.” Blame games It is tempting to buy into the blame game that Mamdani has turned into such a potent weapon. To some, it comes as a great relief to believe that every errant degree they’ve pursued, every frivolous dollar they’ve spent, indeed, every mistake they’ve ever made can be chalked up to some successful person or entity pulling a fast one over them. And to hear that it is someone else’s job to get them back on track. But then again, this message — disguised as it is by flowery language, a remarkable faux generosity of spirit and seemingly optimistic utopianism — is actually astonishingly bleak. What Zohran Mamdani and his fellow travelers are telling people is that they live in a dystopia in which they lack the power to better themselves. That they’re being dragged down by anchors from which only the government can free them. And if they can’t do anything about their problems, why should they try? This accountability-free approach is alluring at first glance, but a shortfall of self-responsibility always leads to a surplus of self-loathing. Moreover, the socialist dream has been, paradoxically, kept alive by American politicians’ already pernicious spending habits. Contrary to Mamdani’s claims, the United States has hardly been practicing trickle-up austerity. As of this week, America owes its creditors over $38 trillion. Is it any wonder that voters — who have yet to suffer the worst consequences of the debt crisis — wonder why they shouldn’t receive free health care, child care, transportation and more for this substantial cost? Holding people back The charge is even more curious in New York, where the city and state enjoy ritual increases passed as a matter of course by its homogenous, left-wing leaders, who have saddled their constituents with countless taxes, regulations and union concessions — you know, the kind of malignant nuisances that actually hold people back. Mamdani wants to worsen the housing crisis with price controls; why not unshackle its builders instead? Rather than stripping gifted students of opportunities to excel, why not extend the offer to more? And if there are a dearth of well-paying jobs in the city, shouldn’t he be trying to attract, rather than antagonize, employers? The siren song of socialism always begins so beautifully. The extravagant promises, the dearth of trade-offs: It’s John Lennon’s “Imagine” come to life. But Americans had best plug their ears and look past the fog to the rocky shores ahead. Because they, not the bogeymen of Mamdani’s campaign, are at the helm.)

Equity is a sleek euphemism that’s gained cultural rizz for Progressive Americans who believe the future lies in a virulent form of social Marxism that’s cloaked in woke cultural rizz of transgender rights, social justice, equality, fairness, tolerance, critical race theory, DEI, anti-racism, white supremacy, and systemic inequality. It’s an expansion of Marxist theory, transformed by critical theory and postmodern philosophy, which connects with the emotions of those who suffer the harsh realities of inner-city poverty and violence perpetrated by generations of Leftist policy. Rather than take responsibility for the urban decay that undeniably spews from their liberalism, Democrats turned to equity’s neo-Marxist message, declaring that the suffrage in New York was the result genocidal oppression of America’s Western, Judeo-Christian, capitalist ideals (enforced by the fascist Trump administration) that created the endless inequalities of wealth, education, race, crime, incarceration, gender, sexual preference, patriarchy, and white supremacy that were systemically devouring inner-city New Yorkers. Equity was the only solution to end inequalities, because it would ensure comprehensive equal outcomes for all by imposing economic justice, tolerance, gender freedom, absolute sexual liberation, and anti-racism; it’s the last great hope of liberating humanity. Mamdani claimed his vision could deliver New York, which resonated with those who suffered from inner-city decay and despair. Equity has captured the minds of New Yorkers because it offers a new moral vision of “hope” and unlimited freedom, as a nation facing an existential crisis leaves Christianity in record numbers. People who need a new secular religion to replace Christianity were drawn to equity’s promise to bring justice and deliverance of a progressive and permissive post-Christian society. Everyone who suffered the oppression of poverty, hunger, incarceration, white supremacy, homophobia, and transphobia would thrive in racial and economic equality. They would be equally free to choose the lifestyle they want and the pleasure they deserve, all without condemnation. And the rich are finally going to surrender their wealth to pay for it all. The Left, and many in America, are buying in. It boggles the mind that this genocidal narrative that’s failed all through history has become truth in the uncritical mind. But the Left has abandoned reason for the post-truth world of emotions, a second critical point that led to Mamdani’s win. We live in a post-truth world where feelings and emotions determine reality, and facts and reason no longer matter. Today, the feelings, preferences, and desires that confirm our pre-existing narratives and cognitive biases define our individual “truths.” It’s the consequence of the postmodern movement’s quiet destruction of reason and rational thought, which has successfully undermined our confidence that truth exists and that facts, data, logic, and common sense accurately describe the world. Philosophers argued that rationalism could not intrinsically justify its claim that facts were derived from objective reality. There was no objective truth; facts were simply beliefs and opinions in a world of moral relativism. Postmodernism’s successful destruction of truth left humanity in a bind. People needed another way to interpret the world once they left rationalism behind. Emotivism, which argued that preferences, attitudes, or feelings determined all our value judgments, replaced truth and reason as post-truth became the choice of a nation determined to bask in the glow of its emotions. Today, the death of facts has liberated the world from the inconvenience of verification or falsification; “truth” is whatever aligns with feelings, emotions, and preferences. Ben Shapiro’s “Facts don’t care about your feelings” is a reaction to post-truth’s devastating effect on the nation. What happens when you offer equity as liberation to a vast number of people who have little hope of escaping the suffering and rely on their emotions to confirm predetermined anti-Western narratives? They accept it as reality without critical evaluation because a post-truth world doesn’t rely on the facts of failed Leftist policies. Feelings convince them that their suffering is caused by the racism, greed, and religious bigotry imposed under decades of Republican fascism. It is a perfect storm to resonate within the hearts of those who suffer generations of poverty, violence, and the loss of hope. This is how Mamdani won: his rise in New York followed the same path that brought Lenin, Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot to power. They promised to rescue the suffering masses, yet the masses didn’t understand political theory or have the capacity to comprehend what Marxism meant for their future. Critical thinking wasn’t part of the equation; they wanted an end to their pain and suffering imposed by the heavy hands of the Tsars and the oligarchs of their day. They trusted anyone who offered deliverance from oppression and the promise of unlimited freedom and prosperity. One can hardly blame them, yet they suffered beyond imagination for generations. Over 100 million died and nearly all experienced starvation, torture, imprisonment, and, most importantly of all, the near-total loss of their freedom. We must come to terms with the implications of Mamdani’s victory. It would be easy to rationalize it as New York’s momentary loss of sanity, telling ourselves that the communist new dark age that tormented the USSR, China, and Cambodia could never happen here. But, as Mamdani’s win shows us, anything is possible in a post-truth world of pain and suffering. Even here in America.)
