— The 0.3%: Million-dollar earners in Illinois – SABRINA GASULLA (DIERSEN: How many of the 19,800 million-dollar earners in Illinois live in your county, in your township/ward, in your municipality, and in your precinct? If there are 300 or more households in your precinct, is one or more of them a million-dollar earner?)
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20180420/ISSUE01/180429990/the-0-3-million-dollar-earners-in-illinois
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Only 1 in 300 Illinois households can brag they earn at least $1 million a year. Still, that ratio is higher than in neighboring states and on par with percentages in tax havens Florida and Texas. And in sheer numbers, Illinois has more million-dollar earners than ever.)

— Bustos Disagrees With Welfare-To-Work – Cole Lauterbach (DIERSEN: Are you able-bodied? Of course, because I am still able-bodied, Bustos, as well as all my critics/opponents, all their operatives, and all their dupes would support requiring abled-bodied federal retirees like me to work to qualify for Civil Service Retirement System pensions and for federal health, dental, and vision insurance subsidies. To prove that I still able-bodied, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes would stress that even though I am 69 years old, I continue to put GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and send them out each and every morning and each and every evening.)
http://altondailynews.com/news/details.cfm?clientid=17&id=263990#.Wt8oOMuKSM8
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As written, the provisions in the farm bill would expand state welfare-to-work programs already in place. It would require able-bodied adults without dependents under six years old to either work or enroll in job training programs for at least 20 hours per week to qualify for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.)

PRAIRIE STATE WIRE
— Illinois House approves spending of $635K on three “lactation and wellness” rooms at State Capitol (DIERSEN: During the early 1990s, to help GAO a) hire, retain, and promote young women and b) to get rid of its employees who smoked (overwhelmingly old White men), GAO gutted the smoking room in its Chicago office and turned it into a lactation room.)
https://prairiestatewire.com/stories/511397874-illinois-house-approves-spending-of-635k-on-three-lactation-and-wellness-rooms-at-state-capitol
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “Lactation rooms should provide, at a minimum, a lockable door; a work surface and chair; a small utility-type sink; storage for cleaning supplies and paper towels; adequate HVAC service, including a thermostat; and well-placed electrical outlets,” according to the AIA. “Telephone service and network connections for the room are also recommended to increase worker safety and productivity. Accessibility guidelines should be met for all the features of the room.” AIA standards also dictate the coating used for the table work surface (“plastic laminate”), the size of the table (“20 inch deep by 30 inch wide”), the location of power outlets and other “useful accessories” that must be required, including “a trash can, a paper towel dispenser, a coat rack or coat hooks, a full-length mirror, a magazine rack, and a bulletin board.” The Illinois Capital Development Board, which would handle the lactation room construction, estimated the construction cost at $211,856 per room or $847.42 per square foot, provided the room were 250 square feet. The only ‘no’ vote was State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton), who suggested the state should pay its $8.4 billion in unpaid bills before considering new projects like this one. The bill, House Bill 1042, now goes to the Illinois State Senate for approval. Last month, the Senate passed a resolution to approve the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), which would render female-only accommodations like a lactation room unconstitutional.)

ILLINOIS HOME PAGE
— Lawmakers push net neutrality at state level – Raquel Martin (DIERSEN: I should write a book about those who if they could have, they would have stopped me by now from sending out GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails. They are nasty rule-or-ruin types. They focus on destroying individuals, destroying organizations, destroying companies, destroying governments, and destroying countries that they cannot manipulate/dominate. According to them, the only news that is not fake is the news that they put out or bless. They blame me and my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails for all of their problems, for all of your problems, for all of my problems, and for all of everyone’s problems. They blame me and my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails for all the defeats that Republicans have suffered in Illinois since 2000.)
http://www.illinoishomepage.net/news/local-news/lawmakers-push-net-neutrality-at-state-level/1136892136
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Monday net neutrality rules expired nationwide but Williams is spearheading a plan to keep regulations in place in Illinois. She fears without it, internet providers will be able to charge higher rates and limit access. “Right now consumers can access the internet not as a luxury but as a necessity and when that’s something that you need for everyday life, if that’s for access to government services, to go to school or to do work for small business, we think that should be open for everyone.” Though the FCC okayed changes nationally, she’s taking control where she can. Under her proposal, providers who don’t abide by net neutrality rules can’t do business with the state.)

ILLINOIS CHURCH ACTION ON ALCOHOL & ADDICTION PROBLEMS
— Gambling Action Alert (DIERSEN: I just called my Senator Mike Connelly’s office and asked for him to not only vote NO on SB 3166 and SB 3452, but to also speak against those bills.)
http://ilcaaap.org/gambling-alert/
(FROM THE ALERT: Call your Senator to Vote NO on SB 3166, SB 3452 Senator Terry Link is sponsoring two bills to expand gambling. SB 3166 and SB 3452 are on 3rd reading and could be called for a vote at any time. SB 3166 allows licensed veterans establishments to operate video gambling machines in a municipality or unincorporated area of a county that has banned video gambling. The Video Gambling Act allows municipalities to “opt out” of video gambling. SB 3166 would open the door for video gambling in other liquor pouring establishments to “even the playing field”. Problem, Pathological Gambling Rates High Among Veterans: About 8% of U.S. veterans are problem gamblers, and an additional 2% are pathological gamblers, a study from the Department of Veterans Affairs reveals. People who have more posttraumatic symptoms, anxiety, and depression tend to have more gambling problems. “Read more SB 3452 legalizes Internet betting on horse racing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from computers, smart phones, I-pads and tablets. The General Assembly approved a three-year Advanced Deposit Wagering “pilot program” in 2009. SB 3452 would extend Internet gambling on horse racing until 2022. SB 3452 will not save horse racing, but will make track owners and their ADW companies richer. For Immediate Action Call your State Senator TODAY and ask him/her to Vote NO on SB 3166 and SB 3452 -expansion of gambling. (Capitol Switchboard – 217-782-2000) Share this Alert with your faith community Forward to 10 others.)

ILLINOIS FAMILY INSTITUTE
— Queering Government Schools: Just Say No – Laurie Higgins (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, to send a child to a public school is to encourage that child to engage in LGBTQ activity. I should write a book about LGBTQ promoters in Wheaton and in Glen Ellyn who demonize, denigrate, and condemn my parents because they sent me to Trinity Lutheran Grade School in Crete 1953-1961 and then to Hope Lutheran Grade School in Park Forest 1961-1962 to stay with the Missouri Synod. They hint/imply/argue/shout that if had gone to a public grade school like they did, I would be promoting LGBTQ activity like they do.)
https://illinoisfamily.org/education/queering-government-schools-just-say-no/
https://illinoisfamily.org/podcast/podcast-queering-government-schools-just-say-no/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: For decades homosexual and “trans” activists have used schools to indoctrinate children with the disordered and destructive “LGBTQ” ideology. Thirteen years ago, the Journal of Gay & Lesbian Issues in Education published an article titled “Trans-Friendly Preschool” by now-ordained Rev. Laurel A. Dykstra, a “bisexual Christian activist” who has twins via a sperm donor. I wrote about her article for IFI in 2008—a decade ago. Here are some of Dykstra’s ideas for training up children in the way they should go:)

CAPITOL FAX
— Rauner’s new website slams Pritzker-Madigan “corruption” (DIERSEN: I have been the DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 9 Republican Committeeman since 1999. From I see, in my precinct, those who vote for Democrats do not care about Illinois’ financial problems or corruption, but they despise, if not hate, Trump and those who are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, draft avoiders, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)
https://capitolfax.com/2018/04/24/rauners-new-website-slams-pritzker-madigan-corruption/
— Madigan and lone chairmanship “No” vote together on Joravsky’s show (FROM THE ARTICLE: I doubt we’ll ever see Rauner and Ives appear together on Dan Proft’s radio show.) (DIERSEN: QUESTION: If/when Rauner loses to Pritzker, who will the Democrats and Democrat plants, Libertarians and Libertarian plants, Greens and Green plants, and RINOs blame? ANSWER: Those who supported Ives in the primary. I supported Pat O’Malley in the 2002 Republican gubernatorial primary. I should write a book about those who continue to blame me, but not Dan Proft, for Jim Ryan’s defeat in the general election.)
https://capitolfax.com/2018/04/24/todays-must-listen-madigan-and-lone-chairmanship-no-vote-together-on-joravskys-show/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: House Speaker Michael Madigan was a guest on “The Ben Joravsky Show” radio program yesterday, which is odd in and of itself. The anti-machine Chicago Reader columnist ain’t exactly a member of the Madigan wing of the Democratic Party. But making this even more interesting, Madigan appeared on the show with Peter Janko, who was the lone vote against Madigan’s bid for party chairman yesterday. Everyone appeared to get along fine, partly because Madigan kept the focus on defeating Gov. Rauner. Madigan was also asked what he would say to Alaina Hampton if he could.)
— Madigan says he hasn’t made up his mind on legalizing marijuana (DIERSEN: Pot is poison. If you promote pot, you shout that you promote destruction. — Liberals Killed Equal Rights Amendment, Not ‘Religious Right’ – Bill Donohue
https://www.cnsnews.com/commentary/bill-donohue/liberals-killed-equal-rights-amendment-not-religious-right
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Times looks even more hypocritical when it says that while there are laws granting equal rights to women, “The E.R.A. would add an extra layer of legal protection for women—and men—against discrimination.” Yet when it comes to laws offering a new round of legal protection for the unborn, or for white men victimized by affirmative action, the same New York Times says we have enough laws on the books for them.)

NEW YORK TIMES
— Ronny Jackson, Trump’s V.A. Nominee, Faces Claims of Overprescription and Hostile Work Environment – Nicholas Fandos (DIERSEN: Have you worked in a hostile work environment? While I worked for GAO 1980-1997 in its Chicago office, the work environment became increasingly hostile for its employees who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/24/us/politics/ronny-jackson-veterans-affairs.html?emc=edit_na_20180424
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Senate Veterans Affairs Committee is examining allegations that President Trump’s nominee to lead the Veterans Affairs Department oversaw a hostile work environment as the White House physician and allowed the overprescribing of drugs, according to congressional officials briefed on the committee’s work. They have also received claims that Dr. Ronny L. Jackson drank too much on the job. The allegations, which have been under investigation since last week, forced the postponement of Dr. Jackson’s confirmation hearing, planned for this Wednesday as senators scrutinize the nominee’s time leading the White House medical staff. Officials familiar with the allegations against Dr. Jackson declined to offer precise details but said that they suggest a pattern of behavior, not just one or two isolated incidents.)
— ERA: A Rebuke to Trump, a Century in the Making – Editorial
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/19/opinion/a-rebuke-to-trump-a-century-in-the-making.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Then there’s the question of what the E.R.A. would do. Even the most die-hard proponents of the amendment acknowledge that it’s unlikely to radically advance women’s rights, at least in the short term. That’s because, for decades, many courts have applied the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment to sex discrimination, creating a body of case law that’s functioned as a sort of de facto E.R.A. As to whether the amendment could actually undo some programs that are beneficial to women, like sex-based affirmative action efforts, legal experts point to the fact that though the Constitution already protects the rights of people regardless of race, race-based affirmative action continues to exist. They also point to parts of the country that have state-level E.R.A.s and have not had such outcomes.)

WASHINGTON POST
— Shrinking workspaces – Eric Yoder (DIERSEN: Of course, my Democrat GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinate were beyond furious when I got a preferred corner office instead of a cube when GAO moved into a new building in 1990. I would not have gotten that office if the GAO manager who had hired me in 1980 and had gotten me assigned to audits of IRS in 1986, had not promoted me to GS-13 in 1986. I would not have gotten a preferred office if my working for the Post Office for almost 3 years and for IRS for almost 9 years had not been counted for seniority purposes.)

My wife and I will, but with a far lower standard of living than if the Democrats who run the federal government had not wasted my career and forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old. My $51,864/year Civil Service Retirement System pension is only 41% of what my $125,325 salary was in 1997 in today’s dollars. https://www.wsj.com/articles/retirees-are-less-confident-about-having-enough-to-live-on-1524562200
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Other findings indicate that workers may be overestimating how long they will be able to remain on the job. While workers expect to retire at a median age of 65, retirees typically reported leaving the workforce at 62. While 79% of workers plan to work for pay in retirement, just 34% of retirees said they have actually done so. About 65% of American workers said they or a spouse have saved money for retirement. BLOOMBERG
— To Save Democracy, This Economist Wants to Kill Its Core Principle Dambisa Moyo’s Edge of Chaos makes an argument for weighted voting—giving more voting power to the educated, and taking it away for others. – PETER COY (DIERSEN: How informed are the voters in your precinct, in your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, in Illinois, and in America? Why do they vote? To vote for Democrats is to vote to get rid of individuals, organizations, companies, governments, and countries that are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, draft avoiders, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-04-19/dambisa-moyo-edge-of-chaos-review
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As is often the case, though, Moyo’s solutions aren’t as persuasive as her diagnosis. If you think about it, even devoted democrats draw the line somewhere on ballot box access: The right to vote is generally denied to prisoners, children, noncitizens, and people judged mentally incompetent. But imagine the envy and anger that would be unleashed if voting power were based on profession or education. Who would decide how to divide the public into first-, second-, and third-class citizens? Would biology professors be certified as “highly qualified” but high school history teachers ranked “standard qualified”? What about journalists vs. carpenters vs. actors vs. the unemployed? And how much of the public would be consigned to the lowest tier of “unqualified” voters—would it be 1 percent or 10 percent or more? A civics test seems a more defensible way to implement weighted voting, but not really. It implicitly equates knowledge with good judgment, which experience tells us isn’t a sound equation. As the conservative writer William F. Buckley Jr. once said, “I’d rather entrust the government of the United States to the first 400 people listed in the Boston telephone directory than to the faculty of Harvard University.” In the end, Moyo comes across as a well-meaning meritocrat. Democracy has its flaws, all right, but elitism isn’t the way to cure them.)

What percent of voters vote for a candidate because that candidate promises to use government to get rid of those individuals, organizations, companies, governments, and countries that are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, draft avoiders, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time?)

— Certifying online journalists: A bad idea whose time has come? – FRANK CATALANO (DIERSEN: I should write a book about my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in DuPage County, and in Illinois who have since 2000 hinted/implied/argued/shouted that I am NOT a journalist. They dismiss/belittle/badmouth/demonize/denigrate/condemn the fact a) that much of what GAO Analysts do is very similar to what journalists do, and that I worked for GAO for almost 18 years, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently $96,403-$125,325 and b) that I have been the GOPUSA Illinois Editor since 2000. Instead, they stress a) that I do not have a degree in journalism, b) that no one pays me for what I do as your GOPUSA Illinois Editor, c) that GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails are free and do not contain any advertising or pictures, and d) that certain people who have lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in DuPage County, and in Illinois shout that I am NOT a journalist. Inconsistently, outrageously, many of the aforesaid at the same time hint/imply/argue/shout that I AM A JOURNALIST, AND THEREFORE, I SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO: a) be a Republican Precinct Committeeman, b) be a Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC), DuPage County Republican Central Committee (DCRCC), or Illinois Republican Party (IRP) officer, and c) attend MTRCC, DCRCC, or IRP events that are closed to journalists.)
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Part of the difficulty in any kind of certification is the notoriously independent nature of many attracted to the craft of journalism. Another is that even professional journalism organizations may be hard-pressed to agree on specifics of any credential, or be able to manage it when their membership ranks are in decline due to deep staffing cuts within traditional media organizations. “Professional journalists do, at nearly unanimous numbers, adhere to the professional standards of organizations like SPJ (Society of Professional Journalists ) and NPPA (National Press Photographers Association) and RTDNA (Radio Television Digital News Association), whether they have a certification that says so or not,” said Caley Cook, journalism lecturer at the University of Washington and an investigative and feature reporter. “I don’t think it hurts, really, to get a journalistic certification, but I don’t think an average news consumer is going to take one look at that and say, well I trust you now.” Those doubts are shared by SPJ Washington board member Daniel Person. “When you look at the sites/pages/accounts that are disseminating false information, there are all sorts of red flags suggesting that it’s not a reputable source: goofy URLs, lack of citation, bad grammar, etc.,” Person, a former Seattle Weekly editor, said. “Yet people seem willing to blow past these caution signs so long as the ‘news’ they are reporting confirms their worldview … If people are willing to share a story from SpicyAmericaNewz.Ru, what’s to say they’ll check the reporter’s credentials beforehand?” While there may be a place for some kind of voluntary certification for journalism newbies or freelancers who don’t belong to a professional media organization, Cook thinks a better solution lies beyond the outflow end of the story pipe. “When normal people truly don’t consider the source of their information or how it was gathered, we have a greater problem than certification of journalists could solve,” Cook said. Instead, she points to the oft-cited need for better media literacy, “what makes information reliable, how to question the source of information, media industrialization and consolidation, etc,” she said “I think you’d find this would have a far greater impact on the perception of ‘fake news’ than if you put that onus on the journalists.”)

She garnered 341,836 statewide votes, while spending about $4.3 million since first announcing her run. Ives received $3.926 million in contributions, with $2.5 million from Richard Uihlein and $20,000 from conservative radio host Dan Proft. Illinois Policy Institute CEO John Tillman also contributed $5,000 to Ives’ campaign. The bulk of Ives’ campaign money — $2.74 million — was spent on advertising. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner spent over four times more than state Rep. Jeanne Ives in the months before his narrow primary victory on March 20. The first-term governor spent about $17.7 million in the first quarter, according to campaign records filed late Monday. That’s compared with about $4.3 million spent by Ives, who lost by just three percentage points. And Democrat J.B. Pritzker spent nearly double what Rauner did, reporting $34 million in expenses this year, far more than state Sen. Daniel Biss’ $5.8 million and Kenilworth businessman Chris Kennedy’s $3.9 million. Rauner starts the fall campaign with about $38.5 million in his campaign fund for what some observers predict could be the most expensive governor campaign in history. Pritzker showed about $8.1 million in the bank at the start of the month. He’s given his campaign $7 million since the primary ended, bringing his self-funding total to $76.5 million.)

ILLINOIS POLICY INSTITUTE
— MORE THAN 100 TOWNSHIP GOVERNMENTS FILE IN OPPOSITION TO TOWNSHIP CONSOLIDATION BILL A House bill that would allow communities to consolidate local township governments has earned support from both parties – and the opposition of township officials. – Vincent Caruso (DIERSEN: Did your township file a witness slip?)
https://www.illinoispolicy.org/more-than-100-township-governments-file-in-opposition-to-township-consolidation-bill/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: One common critique of consolidation measures by government officials is that services would be diminished. But HB 3133 provides that the responsibilities and obligations of a dissolved township be transferred to its receiving county, suggesting that residents could expect continued delivery of public services at a reduced cost. This concept is not without precedent: DuPage County has eliminated multiple units of local government, while consolidating the services of others, since the passage of a 2013 consolidation law that only applied to DuPage County. In a 2015 report, Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti held up the DuPage example as a model for fiscal reform for other counties. Sure enough, lawmakers representing Lake and McHenry counties successfully pushed through the General Assembly a similar consolidation bill that extended much of DuPage County’s consolidation powers to both counties.)

— FRONT PAGE: BEYOND OUTRAGEOUS: Yes, It’s Tax Day and You’re Still Doing Returns for Your Adult Children Parents are preparing returns for their grown children even into their 40s, with no plans to hand over the chore – Katherine Bindley (DIERSEN: Do you prepare your own tax returns? Because they make tax laws for all of us, all U.S. Representatives and U.S. Senators should be required to prepare their own tax returns, and they if fail/refuse to do that, they should be barred from having anything to do with tax laws. I have prepared my own tax returns since I was 16 years old in 1965. I have filed itemized returns since I was 24 year old in 1973. I worked for IRS 1971-1980, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880. I worked for GAO on audits of IRS 1986-1988 at the GS-13 Step 1-3 levels, currently $96,403-$102,830. I passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979. I earned master’s degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980. I paid less federal income tax 1972-1977 because I itemized and my wife and I have paid less federal income tax since 1978 because we have itemized. However, because of the marriage penalty, my wife and I have paid more federal income tax since 1978. It seems that those who are not married and those whose spouse has little or no income want to keep the marriage penalty or even increase it. It seems that those who pay little or no real estate tax and/or state income tax want those deductions to be capped. I am more than happy to teach U.S. Representatives, U.S. Senators, and their staffs how to use Quicken and Turbotax.)

April 16 Morning Edition

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform. QUESTION: What should Illinois Republican Party (IRP) State Central Committee (SCC) candidates promise to do, and do, if they are elected? ANSWER: Defend and advance the IRP platform. Be loyal to the platform and NOT to whoever gives them, or the IRP, the most money. Notify in a timely manner all the party leaders and elected Precinct Committeemen in their congressional district of the date, time, and location of IRP SCC meetings. Seek input for agenda items from the aforesaid before each IRP SCC meeting. Provide the aforesaid with IRP SCC meeting agendas as soon as they are finalized. Attend all IRP SCC meetings and actively represent the Republicans in their district. Provide the party leaders and elected Precinct Committeemen in their district with a summary of major actions taken at IRP SCC meetings within a week after the meetings. Appoint a member to the 2020 IRP State Convention Platform and Resolutions Committee who is a Republican, and NOT a RINO, a Democrat plant, a Libertarian plant, or a Green plant. Appoint a Deputy IRP SCC Member who can and will help you do the aforesaid. Further, IRP SCC candidates should be extremely financially secure because RINOs, Democrat plants, Libertarian plants, and Green plants are moral relativists who believe that their end justifies their means, because they are disciples of Saul Alinsky, and because they have destroyed and will destroy those who defend and advance the traditional family, right to life, immigration, Second Amendment, and other planks in the IRP platform. – Dave Diersen

Are you a conservative? I am. How would you react if a Republican candidate hinted/implied/argued/shouted a) that conservatives run the IRP, DuPage County Republican Central Committee, Milton Township Central Committee, etc., b) that those conservatives should stop purging “those who don’t completely align with our platform,” and c) that Rauner’s rejection of the traditional family, right to life, and immigration planks in the IRP platform did not justify a primary challenge? PRAIRIE STATE WIRE
— Rauner attempts conservative “purge” of Illinois GOP leadership (DIERSEN: Incumbents who go against their party’s platform want a primary challenge. It certainly looks like Rauner went against the traditional family, right to life, and immigration planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform to get a conservative to challenge him in the primary. It certainly looks like Rauner’s reelection strategy was to use his crushing that conservative to run as an anti-conservative to get votes from Democrats like most Republican candidates in Illinois do. Obviously, Rauner erroneously assumed that he would crush Ives.)
https://prairiestatewire.com/stories/511392525-rauner-attempts-conservative-purge-of-illinois-gop-leadership
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner is publicly preaching party unity on the campaign trail. But behind the scenes, Rauner is quietly leading an effort to purge conservatives from the Illinois Republican State Central Committee, which governs the party. At issue: the re-election of current Illinois GOP Chairman Timothy O. Schneider of Bartlett, a close ally of Rauner and a sharp critic of State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) in the recent gubernatorial primary. “He’s in trouble,” a source close to the situation told Prairie State Wire. Lake County GOP Chairman Mark Shaw is mounting a strong challenge to Schneider, sources say. Republican precinct committeemen gather at their county conventions this Wed. to nominate and elect eighteen State Central Committee members, or one from each Illinois congressional district. State Central Committee members will meet in May to select the state party chairman. Rauner and his allies have targeted three members for defeat– John McGlasson of Pontiac (16th Congressional District/U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger), Robert Winchester, Sr. of Rosiclare (15th Congressional District/U.S. Rep. John Shimkus) and Fred Floreth of Springfield (13th Congressional District/U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis). DeWitt County GOP Chairman Dustin Peterson dropped his challenge to Floreth on Friday, after reports that he had once been arrested for a DUI. Challenging McGlasson is State Rep. Thomas Demmer (R-Dixon) and Winchester, State Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet). . .Sources say Rauner allies have offered to have Rose will withdraw his candidacy and put a designee of Winchester, a retired state employee who spent ten years in the Illinois House (1974-84) and joined the State Central Committee in 2002, on the Illinois GOP payroll. Illinois House GOP Leader Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) and Illinois Senate Minority Leader Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) are backing Rose’s bid and criticizing Winchester for being disloyal to the governor, sources say. Winchester campaigned at the Bond County Lincoln Day Dinner Saturday night, but Rose did not appear. Detmers Fansler, a former aide to then-Illinois Secretary of State George Ryan, was ousted from the State Central Committee in 2014 after backing then-chairman Pat Brady, a Rauner ally who sought to change the party platform to support gay marriage.)

https://capitolfax.com/2018/04/05/circular-firing-squad-battle-moves-to-state-central-committee-races/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Every four years, Republican Party conventions of precinct committeemen are held in every Illinois county for the purpose of electing state central committee members in each of the state’s congressional districts. The filing deadline was March 26th. Dave Diersen posted a list of contested races. I’ve added incumbent (i) designations… . . . That’s a lot of challenges. I asked Dan Proft if he was behind any of these candidates in an attempt to take over the party. Chris Cleveland was a big Jeanne Ives supporter, for example, as was David Smith, Patrick Harlan and others on that list. Proft’s texted response… Think you’ve got it reversed. It reads to me as if Rauner and his big government apparatchiks are working to continue their purge of conservatives from the party per their backing candidates against McGlasson, Floreth and Winchester. Message to Ives and her supporters: leave the party. ABC NEWS
— Comey opens up about the shocking way he found out he was fired by Trump – MEGHAN KENEALLY (DIERSEN: Right up to the end of August of 1997, my Democrat GAO superiors unethically led me to believe that they were going to let me work until I would first be eligible for regular retirement when I turned 55 on September 29, 2003. In February of 1971, my Firestone Stores boss fired me immediate after I told him that I had accepted a job offer from Oldsmobile. Then, Oldsmobile withdrew that job offer saying that it had just agreed to stop hiring Whites to settle an EEOC complaint. That directly resulted in my accepting a job offer from IRS. Right up to the end of August of 1969, my Democrat Post Office superiors unethically led me to believe that they were going to let me continue working part-time while took classes at NIU. All of a sudden, they declared that my being available to work all Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, holidays, and all days that NIU was not in session was not good enough.)

— Openly carried guns not allowed at Illinois Capitol gun rights rally – AP
http://www.sj-r.com/news/20180412/openly-carried-guns-not-allowed-at-illinois-capitol-gun-rights-rally
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “Illinois is not an open-carry state,” said Beth Kaufman, a spokeswoman for the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office, which oversees the Capitol Complex. ”… They’ve been advised to not bring firearms to the event.” A group called the National Constitutional Coalition of Patriotic Americans is spreading word of the gun-rights gatherings on social media. Organizers have permits for rallies Saturday outside 45 statehouses, including Illinois, said David Clayton of West Virginia, one of the coalition’s founders. The group’s event at the Illinois Capitol is set for 1-5 p.m. Saturday near the Abraham Lincoln statue at Second Street and Capitol Avenue. The rallies come less than three weeks after hundreds of thousands marched in Washington, New York and other U.S. cities to demand tougher gun laws after the February school shooting that killed 17 in Parkland, Florida. It’s unclear how many will show up — turnout predictions of national organizers are vastly higher than those of local planners. As of Thursday afternoon, 86 people had indicated on Facebook that they planned to attend the Springfield event. Clayton said a new gun law in Florida and similar measures being considered in other states threaten the rights of law-abiding gun owners. He said those attending rallies are encouraged to carry rifles — unloaded, with no magazines inserted — in states where it’s legal. “This is a very peaceful approach to a show of force,” Clayton said. “What that means is we’re not going to go there looking for a fight. We’re saying, ‘Look at all the people gathered here. We have a voice, too.’”)

If I had not had a job-related bachelor’s degree, Firestone Stores would not have offered me a job in 1970, and Oldsmobile and IRS would not have offered me jobs in 1971. If I had not been taking job-related graduate business classes, IRS might not have promoted me in 1972, 1973, or 1974. If I had not had a job-related master’s degree, if I had not almost completed the requirements for a second job-related master’s degree, and I had not had a job-related professional certification, GAO might not have offered me a job in 1980. If I had not completed the requirements for a second job-related master’s degree, if I had not earned a second job-related professional certification, and if I had not earned a job-related professional license, GAO might not have promoted me in 1986. If I had not earned job-related professional certifications in 1990, 1994, 1996, and 1997, my Democrat superiors might have gotten rid of me sooner than they did.)

According to Democrats and Democrat plants, Libertarians and Libertarian plants, Greens and Green plants, and RINOs in Illinois, in DuPage County, and in Milton Township, Republican extremists support all the planks in the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) and should be purged. I should write a book about past and present IRP, DuPage County Republican Central Committee, and Milton Township Republican Central Committee leaders who focus on purging those like me who support all the planks in the IRP platform, including its traditional family, right to life, immigration, and Second Amendment planks.)

PEOPLE’S WORLD
— Sanders rouses progressive candidates with call to fight party establishments – MARK GRUENBERG (DIERSEN: What do those who dominate the Republican establishments in your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, and in Illinois hint/imply/argue/shout about you? Those who dominate the Republican establishments in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois hint/imply/argue/shout that I am “too conservative” because a) I support all the planks in the Republican Party platform and the Illinois Republican Party platform and b) I support the Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) resolution against video gambling. Those who dominate the aforesaid reject the traditional family, right to life, immigration, Second Amendment, and/or other planks and/or reject the MTRCC resolution.)
https://www.peoplesworld.org/article/sanders-rouses-progressive-candidates-with-call-to-fight-party-establishments/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Sen. Bernie Sanders, Ind-Vt., roused a crowd of hundreds of progressives running for political office—from county board to Congress—with a call to fight back against the political establishments of both parties. “When we have the least-qualified president in our history and right-wing extremists in governors chairs, our job is to stand up, to fight back, to bring our brothers and sisters and friends and neighbors into the political process by providing hope,” he declared. “It is to transform America.” Sanders keynoted the opening all-day session on April 12 of a 4-day D.C. conference and training for prospective candidates, organized by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee. Some 450 hopefuls, more than half of them women, 18 percent of them unionists, 40 percent people of color, and 20 percent LGBTQ, signed up. And the union count doesn’t include those, such as two female county board hopefuls from Will County, Ill., and a congressional candidate from Nevada, whose fathers and grandfathers were unionists, or a third Will County candidate whose doctoral thesis was on how German and Irish immigrants created Chicago’s unions. Most attendees are first-time hopefuls, motivated by either disgust at the GOP-run Congress and President Donald Trump, duplication of the right-wing agenda at the state and local levels, or local issues the hopefuls said veteran politicians don’t address, such as criminal justice reform, good roads, infrastructure, child care, and well-paying jobs.)

NEW CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT
— TRUMP POISED TO PURGE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT – TOM BOGGIONI (DIERSEN: Democrats run the federal government. While I worked for the federal government for almost 30 years, my Democrat superiors constantly purged their employees who were Republican, and especially those like me who were White, male, and/or non-veteran who they had not promoted to GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40. In retrospect, with benefit of hindsight, I am extremely proud that they failed to purge me for almost 3 years at the Post Office, almost 9 years at IRS, and almost 18 years at GAO.)

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— How much free time do you have, why do you have that free time, and what do you do with that free time? – Dave Diersen
https://gopillinois.com

What you do with your free time (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leisure) says more about you than anything that you can say about yourself.

I have lots of free time a) because my Democrat GAO superiors succeeded in forcing me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 years old, b) because my Democrat GAO superiors successfully did everything that they could to assure that I would never get a job that was appropriate for someone with my education, work experience, professional certifications, and professional license, c) because I was denied my 7th Amendment rights in Diersen v. GAO, d) because my Republican U.S. Senators, U.S. Representatives, their staffs, and others dumped me, e) because my wife and I gave up trying to have children, we did not adopt, and we did not become foster parents, f) because my wife and I have no debts and we saved for our retirement, g) because my Civil Service Retirement System pension is $51,864/year, my federal health, dental, and vision insurance subsidy is $18,000/year, and my Social Security is $2,064/year, h) because I have good health, i) because I am not a member of a church, I do not attend church services, and I do not give money to a church, j) because my wife and I have not gone on any vacations since the early 1990s, k) because my wife and I do not have any pets, and l) because I do not exercise.

I have more free time because my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes succeeded in ending my TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairmanship in 2012, ending my Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee membership in 2011, ending my Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) webmaster service in 2010 and 2004, ending my Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee membership in 2007, and ending my American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board membership in 2004. Some of my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes brag about their ending my aforesaid roles, but others deny it and hint/imply/argue/shout that I brought it all on myself.

I use thousands of my dollars each year and 10+ hours of my free time each and every day to put GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and send them out each and every morning and each and every evening. That is 70+ hours a week, 300+ hours a month, 3,650+ hours a year, and 36,500+ hours a decade. The emails are free of charge and contain no advertising. The emails promote religious principles, promote conservative principles, promote the Republican Party platform, promote the Illinois Republican Party platform, and promote the MTRCC resolution against video gambling.

Again, how much free time do you have, why do you have that free time, and what do you do with that free time? What you do with your free time says more about you than anything that you can say about yourself.

https://chicago.suntimes.com/opinion/firefighter-steep-tax-bill-gop-plan-2018/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As promised, my paycheck has gone up by about $175. But when I went to see my accountant this year to go over my taxes, I found out that instead of getting a $3,000 refund like usual, I’ll owe more than $1,500 in taxes next year beyond what was already withheld — all on the same income. I was so shocked I asked my accountant to check again. But he came back with the same math and that same unexpected number. That’s when I realized that the GOP’s plan is a classic bait-and-switch. And everyday Americans like my family are going to pay the price very soon. Thanks to a cap on deductions for state and local taxes (SALT) — deductions that benefit many middle and upper-middle class families — and other changes to deductions, many hardworking Americans will find themselves paying more in 2019. Instead of the refunds we’re accustomed to, we’ll be the ones writing checks. The GOP tax plan added nearly $1.5 trillion to the deficit, while slashing taxes for the very wealthy and big corporations. According to the Tax Policy Center, 83 percent of the tax bill’s cuts will go to the top 1 percent in our country. Ending SALT deductions is a way for the GOP to help raise revenue to cover the cost of those cuts — leaving working families like mine to foot the bill for tax giveaways to those who need them least. For me, that means I’ll have less money to take care of my family and my property. Last year, I reinvested my return to make important improvements to my house and the apartment I rent out. Some of these costs I can predict, but there’s always something that comes up whether it’s basic maintenance or serious roof repairs. And as a parent with one daughter in college and one about to start, every penny counts. A $4,500 change in my taxes is a lot of pennies. I’ve saved to make sure my children’s college education isn’t a heavy financial burden on them, but without my usual return, my financial plans may need to change.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Would the Illinois National Guard go to the border? – Bill Lukitsch
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-chicago-ohare-aldermen-20180411-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Gov. Rauner on Tuesday evening said the state has not been asked by President Donald Trump to send Illinois National Guard troops to the Mexican border. But, he said, he’d honor the request if it was made. “I’ve not spent any time thinking about it,” Rauner told reporters. “But frankly, the president is the commander in chief of our military. President Obama sent troops — National Guard to the border. President Bush sent National Guard troops to the border. Illinois has not been requested to send troops. If we are requested, I believe we’ll honor that request.”)
— Break into cars for animals? – Bill Lukitsch (DIERSEN: Outrageously, tragically, and unacceptably, since 1984, I have seen far too many situations in which dog owners mistreat if not abuse their dogs. Most commonly, they dump their dogs in their back yards and leave them there for hours on end unattended while their dogs loudly incessantly bark, howl, and cry.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-chicago-ohare-aldermen-20180411-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: House lawmakers on Tuesday advanced a bill that would give legal protections to people who break into a car to save animals from dying. The proposed law from Republican state Rep. David Olsen gives immunity from criminal and civil penalties if someone finds an animal left inside a car and must act immediately to save its life by breaking in. The person would be required to make sure there is no other way to get to the trapped animal, notify law enforcement of the situation and leave a note on the vehicle’s windshield. Republican state Rep. Peter Breen, of Lombard, said “some pretty significant concerns here that ought to be addressed.” He asked whether the vehicle owner would be responsible if the pet attacks the concerned citizen and what would happen if the animal is injured or killed during the rescue. Humane Society state Director Marc Ayers told lawmakers that several states have recently put so-called Good Samaritan laws on the books, saying it makes sense “when you start looking at the big picture.” “After you’ve called law enforcement under current law, you’ve got two choices: You can stay there and watch the dog die, or two, you can become a criminal by opening the car door to save the dog’s life and then risk being sued in court,” Ayers said. “And I don’t think those are things that someone who’s acting in good faith should really be facing.”)

http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180411/cronin-in-springfield-to-make-pitch-to-disband-dupages-election-commission
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A state law change is the easiest way to undo the election commission because it was formed by a state law. While it could be disbanded through a binding referendum, DuPage doesn’t have the authority to do so because it doesn’t have home rule power. The clerk’s office sends out property tax bills and handles other documents such as birth certificates, marriage licenses and death certificates. It’s run by Paul Hinds, a Republican, and has 19 employees. The election commission is run by Executive Director Joseph Sobecki and has 23 employees. It also pays the salaries of the three election commissioners who each receive $27,500 a year. County officials estimate that consolidating the election commission and clerk’s office could save taxpayers at least $300,000 a year by combining staffs and finding efficiencies. “It makes perfect sense,” Cronin said. “There’s no reason not to do it.”)

At a news conference today, city officials and Citadel CEO Ken Griffin are to announce that Griffin is contributing $10 million to the University of Chicago Crime Lab, which has worked closely with the city’s police department to curb soaring violent crime rates in some neighborhoods.)

To this day, my critics/opponents in Wheaton, in Milton Township, and in DuPage County who have lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout are beyond furious that I did that. I successfully argued that my home is worth less a) because Wheaton had approved a lot drainage plan for my home’s subdivision that was woefully inadequate, b) because Wheaton and the subdivision’s developer had failed to disclose subterranean drainage lines in the subdivision that created drainage easements, c) because Wheaton had let the subdivision’s developer attempt to clog the aforesaid lines instead of properly connecting them to Wheaton’s storm sewer system, d) because Wheaton had let my home’s builder violate many building codes when my home was built that resulted in damage to my home’s foundation, and e) because the aforesaid forced me to spend many hundreds of hours and many thousands of dollars to repair damages and to prevent further damages. https://northcooknews.com/stories/511387192-illinois-gop-chairman-schneider-s-elgin-car-wash-owes-21k-in-overdue-property-taxes
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Political ascendance, but financial woes Waterwerks isn’t the only financial challenge Schneider has faced since becoming a Cook County Commissioner in 2006. Two companies Schneider has operated have been named in foreclosure suits, court records show. In 2012, Northbrook Bank & Trust filed a foreclosure lawsuit in Kane County against FourFathers Development LLC, which owned four parcels of property commonly known as The Falls of Plato on Russell Road in Elgin. The property was sold at an auction and a deficiency judgment in the amount of $5,226,034 was issued against the defendants in 2013. Records indicate at least a portion of the judgment remains unpaid. In 2015, orders were issued against several of Schneider’s other companies, including WaterWerks, in an effort to discover assets. Any proceeds from a sale of WaterWerks would go to resolve the Northbrook Bank & Trust judgment, record show. In March of last year, Baraboo National Bank filed a foreclosure lawsuit against Schneider and Rolling Knolls LLC related to property at 1508 Circle Drive in Elgin. The case was dismissed in October last year.)

http://www.fedweek.com/fedweek/federal-employee-shortfall-on-pay-narrows-a-little/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The federal-private sector pay gap has narrowed a little, with federal employees now behind by an average of 31.86 percent, compared with 34.07 percent in the prior accounting, according to a report that, if the past is a guide, likely will have little impact on prospects for a January 2019 federal pay raise. The Federal Salary Council assessment comes about six months later than usual since the council did not meet last fall on its regular schedule; the members–union officials and outside pay experts–had not been reappointed on time. The prior number, reported in late 2016, had been virtually unchanged over the previous several years. The report shows that the widest pay gap continues to be in the San Francisco area, followed by Washington-Baltimore, New York and Los Angeles. The narrowest remains in the “rest of U.S.” locality, which covers areas in the contiguous states outside one of the 44 city areas (Alaska and Hawaii are separate localities in their entirety) as well as U.S. territories and possessions.)

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20180406/ISSUE07/180409942/illinois-needs-government-oversight
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois has more separate units of government than any other state, and too many, like Riverdale’s library, have overseers who would rather hunker down in their bunkers than embrace tax-saving mergers. The job of journalists and watchdogs is to hold government officials and politicians accountable. But with fewer and fewer professional reporters on the case, as print and broadcast media keep shedding staff to cut costs—i.e., Tribune cutbacks—public officials face less and less scrutiny, emboldening them to misbehave with impunity, laws and taxpayers be damned. Riverdale is in a “news desert,” an out-of-the-way place that gets little or no attention from mainstream media unless a murder or riot attracts TV trucks. Wonky issues like a library controversy? Fuggedaboutit! The BGA’s not insulated from these forces. We have limited resources and tend to deploy them on investigations with broad scope and impact. It took Riverdale activists three tries over several months to get us to realize they, too, suffered from government abuse with implications far beyond their town. It’s good they persisted, and the Riverdale library’s transgressions should be investigated by the Illinois attorney general. But sadly, there aren’t enough watchdogs left to shine a light on every Riverdale and hold all their officials accountable, and that should alarm every taxpayer in Illinois.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republican candidates are getting ready for this year’s Illinois general election in November. Several candidates met with other party leaders at today’s Lincoln Day Dinner sponsored by the Henry County Republicans. Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner addressed many GOP supporters at the event. As he runs for re-election, he says he will continue to stand by education reform. . .On Saturday, newly-minted competitor, Democrat Sean Casten, benefited from the lengthy exposure in front of a captivated crowd. When Casten was introduced, he got a standing ovation. “It’s too bad that Peter Roskam is not here today,” Casten said at the forum. “Because I would defy anyone to stand in this room and not be inspired by all of these impassioned young people, their families, and their supporters.” Why wasn’t he there? “Unfortunately Representative Roskam had previous commitments, which we communicated to the student who extended the invitation on the day that he emailed our office,” Roskam spokeswoman Veronica Vera said in an emailed response. “Representative Roskam believes this is an important issue and our office is looking at alternatives to have students from the district meet with the Representative for a productive conversation on this issue.” Roskam’s office said he met with Glenbard North High School students after the Parkland shooting for about an hour.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Another weekend in the Illinois 6th congressional district, where U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.) is fighting to keep his seat, meant another packed town hall. This time, school violence was the issue at the forum organized by high school students. Inside of a Glen Ellyn church with a capacity to hold 600, it was standing room only, according to organizers. The large turnout isn’t new for this district. And like so many other town halls held in the 6th over the past year, one thing remained consistent: Roskam was a no-show. — DIERSEN HEADLINE: Anti-Trumps say “As elections near, many older, educated, white voters shift away from Trump’s party.” To “shift away from Trump’s party” is to promote dependency on government, dependency on charity, LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, further erosion of the Second Amendment, booze, gambling, pot, and other vices, patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and even worse things.
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/04/09/as-elections-near-many-older-educated-white-voters-shift-away-from-trumps-party.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Nationwide, whites over the age of 60 with college degrees now favor Democrats over Republicans for Congress by a 2-point margin, according to Reuters/Ipsos opinion polling during the first three months of the year. During the same period in 2016, that same group favored Republicans for Congress by 10 percentage points. The 12-point swing is one of the largest shifts in support toward Democrats that the Reuters/Ipsos poll has measured over the past two years. If that trend continues, Republicans will struggle to keep control of the House of Representatives, and possibly the Senate, in the November elections, potentially dooming President Trump’s legislative agenda. The real core for the Republicans is white, older white, and if they’re losing ground there, they’re going to have a tsunami, said Larry Sabato, a University of Virginia political scientist who closely tracks political races. LOS ANGELES TIMES
— Forcing judges to meet quotas won’t reduce immigration court backlogs. It will undermine due process – Editorial (DIERSEN: Forcing my superiors in the federal government to meet Affirmative Action, Diversity, and Inclusion quotas, goals, and targets resulted in reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and a tremendous waste of experience that federal employees had who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)

DENVER POST
— As vultures circle, The Denver Post must be saved – Editorial (DIERSEN: GAO is only a shell of what it once was. By September 30, 1997, the Democrats who ran GAO had gotten rid of virtually all the agency’s employees who were Republican. I should write a book about “Republican” Presidents, U.S. Senators, U.S. Representatives, etc. a) who have no problem with that destruction and b) who promoted that destruction.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: At The Denver Post on Monday, more than two dozen reporters, editors, photographers, videographers, page designers, digital producers and opinion staff will walk out the door. Our marching orders are to cut a full 30 by the start of July. These heartbreaking instructions raise the question: Does this cut, which follows so many in recent years that our ranks have shriveled from more than 250 to fewer than 100 today, represent the beginning of the end for the Voice of the Rocky Mountain Empire? The cuts, backed by our owner, the New York City hedge fund Alden Global Capital, also are a mystery, if you look at them from the point of view of those of us intent on running a serious news operation befitting the city that bears our name. Media experts locally and nationally question why our future looks so bleak, as many newspapers still enjoy double-digit profits and our management reported solid profits as recently as last year. We call for action. Consider this editorial and this Sunday’s Perspective offerings a plea to Alden — owner of Digital First Media, one of the largest newspaper chains in the country — to rethink its business strategy across all its newspaper holdings. Consider this also a signal to our community and civic leaders that they ought to demand better. Denver deserves a newspaper owner who supports its newsroom. If Alden isn’t willing to do good journalism here, it should sell The Post to owners who will. A flagship local newspaper like The Post plays a critically important role in its city and state: It provides a public record of the good and the bad, serves as a watchdog against public and private corruption, offers a free marketplace of ideas and stands as a lighthouse reflective and protective of — and accountable to — a community’s values and goals. A news organization like ours ought to be seen, especially by our owner, as a necessary public institution vital to the very maintenance of our grand democratic experiment.)
