But my excuse for not starting the car since 2009 is that since 2004, I have spent 10+ hours each and every day putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out.)

I’m proud to be an “outsider.” Open wide! That’s basically what’s unfolding right now in Illinois. For the second consecutive election, voters in the Land of Lincoln this November will choose a mega-wealthy governor who has never held any lower political office, and who only got to this one with a massive boost from his personal checkbook. We know this will be true regardless of the election result, because it’s a description that fits both of the major-party candidates. Sure, incumbent Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner can claim four years of on-the-job training, but given his performance during that time, it’s not much of a claim. He had never held any political office before buying into his first gubernatorial term in 2014 with $27.6 million from his own pocket. A venture capitalist, what he brought with him from that world were boardroom skills that you can’t say have been unproductive in office — because they’ve been counterproductive in office. As for Hyatt Hotels heir and Democratic nominee J.B. Pritzker, it seems his primary qualification for governor, and the main reason his party handed him the nomination over more experienced Democrats, is the 10-figure fortune he was born into and his willingness to use it. Rauner is worth nine figures, and Democrats decided to fight fire with more fire. Business people with no political experience who run for high office invariably argue that their business skills are not just an adequate substitute for political skills, but are better. This has never made sense. The goals, rules and responsibilities of business are completely different from those of politics. Rauner’s first term has been a textbook illustration of those differences.)

According to my mechanic it’s ethanol in our gasoline. To understand how this happens you need to know how ethanol affects your fuel system. Ethanol itself is not particularly corrosive. When the oil companies first started blending ethanol in gas, it corroded some rubber and plastic gaskets on some cars and equipment. Manufacturers figured it out and substituted new materials. The unlucky consumers whose equipment was ruined or whose fuel systems had to be replaced just took it on the chin as per usual with most government programs. But that wasn’t the end of it. Ethanol attracts water. When the two get together, they create the perfect environment to grow a type of bacteria called acetobacter. After getting drunk on their EPA-sponsored kegger in your gas tank, the acetobacter excrete acetic acid. And acetic acid is very corrosive. If you’re refilling your gas tank every week or two, acetobacter don’t have time to grow a sufficient size colony to damage metal parts in your fuel system. But if your fuel sits for longer periods of time these microorganisms continue to multiply until your gas tank contains damaging levels of acetic acid.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Tuesday’s primary runoff will be another test for Alabama’s crossover voting ban. The Alabama Legislature passed a law in 2017 banning crossover voting. The law specifically prohibits voters from casting a ballot for one party in a primary and then switching to the other party to cast a ballot in the runoff. Simply put: If you voted on the Democratic ballot in the primary, you can only vote in the Democratic runoff. If you voted a Republican ballot in the primary, you can only vote in the Republican runoff. If you didn’t vote in the primary, you are free to cast a ballot in whichever party runoff you choose. No matter what your vote, there are no restrictions on the Nov. 6 general election, where you can choose whichever candidate you prefer. Gov. Kay Ivey signed the crossover voting ban law in 2017. At the time, Sen. Tom Whatley, R-Auburn, said the bill “helps the Democrats choose Democratic candidate” and helps “Republicans choose Republican candidates.” Enforcing the ban In the October special U.S. Senate election to replace Jeff Sessions, Secretary of State John Merrill said his office had identified 674 cases in which people voted in the Democratic primary election on Aug. 15, 2017 and then crossed over to vote in the Republican runoff election on Sept. 26, 2017. A later review found most of the voters in question were on the wrong list. One-hundred-forty instances of crossover voting were confirmed but none were deemed necessary by local probate judges to investigate further or pursue prosecution, Merrill’s office said. Merrill has been mum on if crossover violators will be prosecuted this time, however. In an update from his office, Merrill only reminded voters of the rules and encouraged people to get out and vote. “Some candidates for both parties have already been selected, but voters are encouraged to return to the polls to make the final selections for their party representatives,” Merrill said.)
