The efforts have been led by Republicans, including three lawsuits from failed Attorney General candidate Thomas DeVore. Earlier this week, a split appellate court upheld a decision by an Effingham County judge to issue a temporary restraining order in favor of DeVore and the 886 plaintiffs he was representing. Through House Bill 1564, Republicans seek to repeal several provisions of the Protect Illinois Communities Act — signed into law as Public Act 102-1116 by Pritzker during the lame-duck session. Specifically, the bill from state Rep. Dave Severin, R-Benton, would remove the act’s language that prevents an individual’s ability to “knowingly possess an assault weapon, assault weapon attachment, .50 caliber rifle, or .50 caliber cartridge,” as of Jan. 1, 2024. It would also return the firearm restraining order to six months instead of the current one-year order created by PICA. Severin is joined by nine other GOP co-sponsors in opposition to the ban passed under House Bill 5471. “The people that I represent, and indeed the people of our entire region believe the firearms ban that Governor Pritzker signed is a direct attack on Second Amendment rights, and I agree,” Severin said in a statement. “I am a pro-2nd Amendment legislator and always have been. I filed this bill because I believe firmly that the firearms ban is unconstitutional and it should be repealed immediately.”

Daniel Lipinski and on October 22, 2022, just weeks before the midterm election, Egofske endorsed Illinois Democratic State Rep. Larry Walsh, Jr., a member of Democratic House Speaker Chris Welch’s leadership team – where he serves as Downstate Caucus Whip, saying, “Regardless of partisan politics, it’s all about getting things done, and I have seen firsthand that Larry Walsh Jr gets things done.” Sources confirm to Illinois Review that Durkin wrote a letter of support to the committee, expressing his support for Egofske to replace him in the Illinois House of Representatives. In announcing the formation of the committee tasked with finding Durkin’s replacement, DuPage Republican Chairman Jim Zay said, “Leader Durkin has been a tremendous advocate for our region and state, and we thank him for his extraordinary service. Our committee looks forward to a transparent and thorough process to fill this important position.” In addition to Zay, the committee includes Tim Ozinga (Will Co.), Michael Shackel (Lemont Twp.), Terrance Carr (Lyons Twp.), Cindy Nelson Katsenes (Orland Twp.) and Sean Morrison (Palos Twp.). The vote is weighted, with Zay’s vote having the most influence on the committee (44%). Carr, 24%; Shackel, 22%; Ozinga, 4%; Katsenes, 3%; and Morrison, 2%. During the Republican primary, Durkin, Morrison, Ozinga and Zay endorsed Richard Irvin’s campaign for governor. But in previous elections, Irvin not only pulled Democratic Primary ballots in 2014, 2016 and 2020, but he also spent years praising Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker – referring to him as a “great friend and a great leader.” And in 2020, Irvin attended a Black Lives Matter rally, yelling, “I can’t breathe!” During the midterm election, Durkin suffered embarrassing losses, giving House Democrats once again, supermajority control in the Illinois House. In media interviews after announcing his resignation as House GOP leader the day after the midterms, Durkin attempted to place all of the blame on the 45th President of the United States Donald Trump. “As long as we continue to say that we are the party of Trump and that we have to abide by the party principles in the platform, 100% we’re gonna continue down this path of losing.” When Durkin announced that he was resigning from his seat in the legislature in January, he once again blamed Trump for Illinois’ losses, saying, “I hope that at some point in the near future, and I think we’re getting there, that the party breaks its fever of Donald Trump and understands and learns from the past. Some people will never get there.” Durkin then suggested that pro-life and 2nd Amendment issues were “dragging” the Republican party down. “So I would just say the sooner that the public realizes that he’s not value added to the Republican Party, we can start looking at what this party used to be about. A party that didn’t insist upon this purity test. A party that is a fiscally conservative first of all, certainly, but we can have a fair and respectful debate within the party on issues related to the Second Amendment, to life and these other social issues, that have been dragging us down in areas that we have to compete in — mainly the suburbs and the collar counties.” In the last few months, Illinois Review has published several articles about Durkin using his political influence to target conservative grassroots candidates during the Illinois Primary. Sources also confirmed to Illinois Review that the IL GOP is blaming Durkin for the party’s postage discount abuse, where mailers “Paid for by the Republican Party of Illinois” were sent during the primary to viciously attack conservative Republican grassroots candidates that were challenging Durkin’s friends and political allies. And in January, before he resigned from the legislature, Durkin was the only Republican to join the Democrats, voting in favor of the assault weapons ban. Attorney and former Illinois Attorney General candidate Thomas DeVore has filed multiple lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of the assault weapons ban on the equal protection clause, and so far, Judges in Effingham and White Counties, and the 5th District Appellate Court view the equal protection clause as the most credible argument in the case – and a literal “silver bullet” for DeVore and his plaintiffs. In another blow to Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker’s assault weapons ban, and following the directive of the Appellate Court, White County Judge T. Scott Webb on Thursday granted DeVore’s motion for a temporary restraining order (TRO), halting the ban while the lawsuit proceeds. The lawsuit raises the same claims as the one filed in Effingham County, where Judge Joshua Morrison granted the first TRO and names Gov. JB Pritzker, State Senate President Don Harmon, D, Illinois House Speaker Christopher Welch, D, and Attorney General Kwame Raoul, D, as defendants. The lawsuit filed in White County by DeVore includes over 1,600 plaintiffs, including former Illinois State Senator and Republican nominee for governor Darren Bailey; 68 federal firearms dealers and covers 92 counties. On Tuesday, 5th District Appellate Court affirmed Effingham County’s TRO and goes beyond the original 866 plaintiffs in the original lawsuit, and is now binding precedent on all lower courts statewide.)

DAILY SIGNAL — Race Everywhere in Today’s America – Victor Davis Hanson https://www.dailysignal.com/2023/02/03/race-everywhere-in-todays-america/ (FROM THE ARTICLE: In sum, class, not race, remains the best litmus test of being underprivileged in America. It is no longer synonymous with race. No wonder the identity politics industry now strains to attach prefixes such as “systemic” or “implicit” to “racism,” or “micro” to “aggression,” purportedly to ferret out bias that otherwise is not apparent. Pause to reflect that America is the only successful multiracial constitutional republic in history. To survive in an increasingly dysfunctional and hostile world abroad, the unique idea of the United States requires concord. But national cohesion is only possible through citizens subordinating their tribal interests to a common culture. Only then do they cease being automatons of warring tribes and collectives. As the world becomes ever scarier, Americans must—as Benjamin Franklin once warned—hang together, or most certainly they will soon all hang separately.)

DUPAGE POLICY JOURNAL — Mendrick: ‘If they’ll treat your duly elected sheriff of this county that way, just think how they’ll treat you’ https://dupagepolicyjournal.com/stories/639176461-mendrick-if-they-ll-treat-your-duly-elected-sheriff-of-this-county-that-way-just-think-how-they-ll-treat-you (FROM THE ARTICLE: DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick said U.S. Rep. Sean Casten (R-IL) “got nasty” with him in a phone call after he said he would not enforce the state’s gun ban. Mendrick is one of around 95 sheriffs who said they won’t enforce the ban involving over 170 types of firearms and millions of guns statewide. The law was ruled unconstitutional in a downstate court and is expected to see the same fate in other courts. “My voters had asked me to put out a statement on my opinion of what I’ll be doing on this and the way the law was written. It did nothing on enforcement,” Mendrick told Chicago’s Morning Answer radio host Dan Proft. “We all know if you don’t put who’s responsible, enforcing the law, that it’s going to be an unfunded mandate down at the end of the year. That’s just how this works every time. And I couldn’t get anybody to tell me yes or no. Will we be expected to enforce this? Until I got a call from Sean Casten, congressman, who told me that if I was willing to go to a house filled with Molotov cocktails, I should have no problem going to people’s doors for this law.” Proft pointed out Casten, a Democrat, had suggested Mendrick resign. “And he called on you to resign,” Proft said. “Yeah, to resign. ‘Recall,’ I think he said there’s something like that. He told me on the phone to I have no First Amendment right as a sheriff. And I really thought that was odd, to see the shock and horror of a politician when they don’t get their way or when somebody challenges them, simply because before you even started the conversation of is this right or wrong,” Mendrick said. Mendrick added that when he pushed backed against Casten the congressman “got nasty.” “Well, it got worse, he said some other things I’m not going to divulge just because he really got nasty with me,” Mendrick said. Mendrick added that the lack of respect for another elected official had him question how Casten treats ordinary Illinoisans. “But think about it, if they’ll treat your duly elected sheriff of this county that way, just think how they’ll treat you,” Mendrick said. “I mean, I couldn’t believe it. I live in the definition of a hostile work environment, political intimidation.” Casten was one of five other Democrats in Illinois’ congressional delegation who penned a letter against Mendrick. Casten took to extreme language in his characterization of the decision by Mendrick and around 95% of the state’s sheriffs to not enforce the law saying the sheriff’s “actions are going to make future mass shootings more likely.” Mendrick answered Casten’s accusations in a statement. “There is absolutely nothing that we are doing or not doing that would make a mass shooting more accessible in DuPage County,” Mendrick said. “In fact, I have asked on multiple occasions to increase penalties on all existing gun crimes, but it does not appear that they want to have that conversation.” Mendrick was clear in his rebuke of the law after its signing in early January. “I, among many others, believe that HB 5471 is a clear violation of the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution,” Mendrick said. “Therefore, as the custodian of the jail and chief law enforcement official for DuPage County, that neither myself nor my office will be checking to ensure that lawful gun owners register their weapons with the State, nor will we be arresting or housing law-abiding individuals that have been arrested solely with non-compliance of this Act.” He has since become a focal point of angry Democrats seeking to impose their will on local law enforcement. Political organizer Jeanne Ives, a former state representative and former gubernatorial and congressional candidate, was one of hundreds who packed into the DuPage county Board chambers in a Jan. 24 meeting. “I stand in support of Sheriff Mendrick. He has done an outstanding job keeping our communities safe. He has also worked very hard in turning around the lives of those incarcerated in his jail,” Ives said in statement.)

The meeting that I had with State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and County Board Chair … Conroy yesterday was the first day three tiers of government came together in discussion on this topic.” First, a little context — and clarity. “This topic,” of course, is the sheriff’s initial refusal to enforce a provision of the new law requiring current owners of high-powered weapons to register them with the state. The meeting he refers to ended with an agreement that he would enforce the law after clarification that the ban does not mandate deputies go door to door checking on compliance. And while Monday’s meeting may not have mentioned censure, it was followed by a joint statement in which Conroy says she will not seek censure — an idea raised at an earlier public meeting and elsewhere. Mendrick’s statement then assures gun owners that sheriff’s deputies would not be showing up at the homes of “law-abiding residents to harass them over gun registration.” “We will not be sending deputies out proactively to take your lawfully owned guns,” he went on. “Please remove that stressor from your lives.” We would argue that Mendrick and others created “that stressor.” Officials have every right to question how they will be expected to enforce the law, but they jumped all too quickly to conclusions and, in some cases, distortions. While lawmakers have made clear that house-to-house inspections are not expected, opponents continue to stoke fears. Earlier this month, Gov. J.B. Pritzker called the refusal of many Illinois sheriffs to enforce the law “political grandstanding at its worst.” We have come to agree. Just look to McHenry County, where the partisanship is so strong Republicans have called for the county to become a gun sanctuary. In DuPage, Mendrick refused to answer calls from local reporters on his stance. He did not appear before the county board. But he was more than happy to share his concerns with like-minded listeners on AM 560’s “Black and Right” radio program and on Fox News’ “America Reports.” It’s a big step forward that Mendrick has agreed to enforce the law. Other dissenting sheriffs should follow suit. NORTHWEST HERALD — COMMENT: Democrats say “Nearly 40 residents speak about McHenry County resolution denouncing state gun ban. Resolution will move to full board despite concerns about ‘inflammatory’ language.” What are the Republican leaders of your county doing to make your county a gun sanctuary? https://www.shawlocal.com/northwest-herald/2023/01/31/nearly-40-residents-speak-about-mchenry-county-resolution-denouncing-state-gun-ban/ (FROM THE ARTICLE: A resolution opposing the new Illinois gun ban is set to be considered by the McHenry County Board, but changes to the measure are almost certain to come, officials said. The resolution, which would affirm McHenry County’s stance against House Bill 5471, would not make the county a gun sanctuary as some have pushed for, but does denounce the new law, calling it unconstitutional and a violation of the Second Amendment. At the county’s Law and Government Committee meeting on Tuesday, more than 100 residents showed up, with nearly 40 of them speaking. As has been the case with previous meetings where this topic was discussed, those who spoke were divided on the topic. The resolution did not get enough votes on Tuesday to be recommended as written, with the committee split in a 3-3 vote. However, the resolution will still move on to the full County Board where it will be considered in a part of the agenda that will open it up for more discussion instead of the consent agenda where items are voted en masse and typically without discussion. The gun ban, passed by the Illinois General Assembly and signed into law by Gov. JB Pritzker in early January, bans more than 100 different guns from being purchased, most of which are semi-automatic rifles, along with different attachments and caps the amount of ammunition certain guns can have. It also creates a requirement that owners of the newly banned guns eventually register them with the Illinois State Police. . .In addition to the resolution being considered, McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally has filed a lawsuit seeking to declare the law unconstitutional. Other lawsuits throughout the state – including one with a McHenry County gun shop on board – seek similar outcomes. Tuesday’s meeting also follows a statement by McHenry County Sheriff Robb Tadelman saying neither he or other deputies would enforce the registration provision of the bill. He joined roughly 80 other sheriffs in Illinois in making the declaration.) — COMMENT: Ever-increasingly, Democrats do more to abolish the Second Amendment. https://www.shawlocal.com/northwest-herald/opinion/letters-to-the-editor/2023/01/31/letter-tired-of-hearing-about-the-second-amendment/

NORTHWEST HERALD — Stop calling semi-automatic rifles assault rifles – Patrick Donlea, Crystal Lake https://www.shawlocal.com/northwest-herald/opinion/letters-to-the-editor/2023/01/29/letter-stop-calling-semi-automatic-rifles-assault-rifles/ (FROM THE LETTER: I understand many people use hyperbole to make their arguments sound more compelling. That being said, we have to stop calling any semi-automatic rifle designed and sold for civilian and police use an “assault rifle.” An assault rifle is a specific tool designed for and used by the military. Because of this, it should not be available for civilian or civil police use. The assault rifle is distinguished from the standard battle rifle by three primary characteristics that make it easier to use in close quarters, such as urban or jungle fighting. These characteristics are: 1. It’s comparatively short and light. 2. It fires a less powerful, and, therefore lighter, round bullet. 3. It has a selective fire switch which allows it to shoot in either semi-automatic or fully automatic mode, such as firing three shot bursts as a third option. The last of these characteristics makes it a type of machine gun. This puts the assault rifle under the registration requirements of the National Firearms Act (NFA). It should be noted that Illinois law has already prohibited the possession of all NFA weapons, specifically machine guns, by Illinois residents since 1961 (720 ILCS 5/24). So, please stop calling a semi-automatic rifle a machine gun or assault rifle when discussing current gun laws. For the past 62 years, it has been illegal to own assault rifles in Illinois.)

Johnson showed the economists gathered there. Older workers do worse under conditions of layoffs and business closures. Job-finding is easier for workers under 50 who get displaced from a job — more than 70% of displaced workers under 50 typically find new work within three years of their job loss. For workers 55-61, however, that number falls to 59%. Among those who can start claiming Social Security, at ages 62 and older the reemployment rate falls to just 38%. So they claim early Social Security benefits at reduced monthly benefits or they start bidding down and take jobs that are worse than their previous ones. Early retirement is an all-too-common last resort, and involuntary retirements increase the risk of depression and downward mobility. Labor market scarring is another effect of job loss beyond the pain of unemployment. Scarring refers to the earnings losses experienced by displaced workers who do manage to find work again. Once again, things get worse as you move up in age. Re-employed displaced workers, age 55-61, earn 22% less than they did before, a scarring effect that is more than twice as severe as for those in their 30s. Weekly earnings are 29% lower for reemployed displaced workers 62 and older.)

NBC NEWS — COMMENT: Democrats ask “Bad candidates or not enough money?” and say “RNC officials debate why they lost in 2022. In a closed-door session during this week’s RNC meeting, two members working on the party’s 2022 audit debated whether “candidate quality” was to blame for midterm losses.” Ever-increasingly, in deciding which candidates to back in primaries and in nonpartisan races, conservative and Republican organizations give more and more and more weight to candidate demographics instead of candidate quadfurcations. Ever-increasingly, they give more and more and more preference to candidates who are minority, female, younger, non-conservative, non-Protestant, non-German American, and/or those whose ancestors have not been in America for a long time. Did you get a student loan? I did not. First off, I doubt that I could have gotten a student loan. I just barely made it into the upper 20% of Crete-Monee High School class of 1966. My ACT was only 24. Neither of my parents had attended college. My father was the first of my ancestors to earn a high school diploma. My mother never attended high school. My GPA and ACT would have been much higher if I had not washed dishes in the basement of the S.S. Kresge in Chicago Heights every evening Monday through Thursday during my junior and senior years and full-time during the summer in between. But if I had gotten a student loan, my GPA at UIC and at NIU would have been much higher and I would have majored in accounting instead of management. While I took classes at UIC 1966-1969 and at NIU 1969-1970, I worked as many hours as I possibly could for the Park Forest Post Office. UNITED STATE COAST GUARD — How to spot and report retaliation – Arcady Darter (COMMENT: While I worked for the Democrats who ran the Post Office 1966-1969, IRS 1971-1980, and GAO 1980-1997, I increasingly engaged in protected activities. I increasingly objected to my Democrat superiors giving preference to their employees who were Democrat, minority, female, and/or younger, that is, their increasing discrimination against their employees who were Republican, White, male, and/or older. My Democrat Post office superiors retaliated against me by disallowing my sick leave requests in 1968 and 1969 and forcing me to resign in 1969. My Democrat IRS superiors retaliated against me by a) disallowing my travel vouchers in 1974, b) forcing the IRS manager to transfer to Texas in 1975 who had promoted me to GS-9 in 1972, to GS-11 in 1973, and to GS-12 in 1974, c) not promoting me beyond GS-12, d) disallowing my education deductions in 1978, and e) getting GAO to offer me a transfer in 1980 only if I took a $21,863 (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars. My Democrat GAO superiors retaliated against me by a) forcing me to take the aforesaid pay cut to transfer, b) giving me unfair job assignments, performance expectations, and performance appraisals, c) delaying my promotions to GS-11, GS-12, and GS-13, d) not promoting me to GS-14, e) keeping me off audits of IRS except for 3 years 1986-1988, f) forcing the GAO manager to retire in 1987 who had arranged for my transfer from IRS in 1980, assigned me to audits of IRS in 1986, and promoted me to GS-13 in 1986, g) always ranking me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, and h) forcing me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997. Retaliation increased significantly after I became an active member in a class action lawsuit in 1988 that charged my GAO superiors with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation.) https://www.mycg.uscg.mil/News/Article/3271731/how-to-spot-and-report-retaliation/ (FROM THE ARTICLE: Workplace retaliation can take many forms and it is important for employees to understand how to identify retaliation and the ways to report it. But how does one determine if an action is retaliatory? 3 Elements of retaliation Retaliation occurs when an employer takes actions or negative behaviors against an employee for engaging in legally protected Equal Employment Opportunity/Equal Opportunity (EEO/EO) activity such as reporting discrimination and harassment or participating in an investigation of harassment. Let’s break down the components of retaliation: First, for an employee or applicant to file a complaint on the basis of retaliation, they must have engaged in a protected activity. This means that the employee asserted their rights by filing an EEO/EO complaint, being a witness to an EEO/EO complaint, or simply contacting the Civil Rights Directorate for information regarding the complaint process. Pointing out exclusionary hiring practices, resisting sexual advances, or intervening to protect others from harassment or discrimination are also examples of protected activities. The second element of a retaliation claim is that after engaging in a protected activity, the employee or applicant suffers an unfavorable action from their employer. For instance, adverse actions can include being fired, being passed over for a promotion, or receiving low-performance reviews after speaking out and engaging in a protected activity. The final element of a retaliation claim is that there is a connection and evidence that shows the adverse action was taken because of the protected activity. This means that the employees’ participation in protected activity motivated the employer’s adverse action or behaviors.)

J.B. Pritzker’s latest “assault weapons” ban, and now Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin claiming that the Founding Fathers would have supported banning certain guns. Democrats have made a lot of noise about banning “military-style” weapons and “weapons of war,” particularly the AR-15 platform – their favorite punching bag – in the name of stopping shootings mostly committed in the ghettos of Democrat-run cities such as Los Angeles, New Orleans, Detroit and most famously Lori Lightfoot’s Chicago. Obviously, this is a false proposition. Criminals don’t register guns or obey the law – they’re criminals. Armed civilians deter crime, whether with “military-style” weapons or a Taurus G3C Subcompact. Gun advocates have made this argument repeatedly. Unfortunately, it falls short and even helps justify bans like the Illinois one. If a subcompact with a five-round magazine is enough for self-defense, then it shouldn’t be a problem if Chicago, for instance, bans anything over 10 rounds, full autos and certain long guns. Because as Democrats argue, you don’t need an M4 to shoot a criminal or hunt. But history says there’s more to the Second Amendment. When the Founders wrote the Second Amendment, it was a shock to the world of monarchs and tyrants who kept their populations in line by force and decree. Its protections make America unique. Virtually no country has anything close to it. It gave meaning to the idea of being a citizen of a nation instead of the subject of a despot.)

WIKIPEDIA — Aggression (COMMENT: What factors have discouraged you from being aggressive? My parents, my grandparents, and the rest of my ancestors were not aggressive. None of them engaged in any kind of aggressive sports like football. My father fought type 1 diabetes from childhood. Neither of my parents attended college. My father was the first of my ancestors to earn a high school diploma. He worked in the office of a nasty chemical plant and almost always worked second jobs to pay the family’s bills. My mother never attended high school. My mother stayed home and raised me and my brother. My parents had me baptized as a Missouri Synod Lutheran (MSL), raised me as a MSL, and had me confirmed as a MSL. My parents sent me to Trinity Lutheran Grade School in Crete and then to Hope Lutheran Grade School in Park Forest to stay with the Missouri Synod. Ever since I developed a bone disease in grade school, I have not been able to run. I washed dishes during my junior and senior years in high school and the summer in between. I have never been in the military. DUPAGE POLICY JOURNAL — Ives: ‘I stand in support of Sheriff Mendrick’ https://dupagepolicyjournal.com/stories/639074798-ives-i-stand-in-support-of-sheriff-mendrick (FROM THE ARTICLE: Political organizer Jeanne Ives spoke in support of DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick who stands opposed to the implementation of the state’s recent gun ban. . .Ives, the CEO of Breakthrough Ideas, stands against the move by DuPage County Board Chair Deb Conroy and a delegation of like-minded fellow party members to criticize Mendrick and seek his removal. Ives, a former state representative and former gubernatorial and congressional candidate, was one of hundreds, many holding signs reading “We support Sheriff Mendrick” who packed into the DuPage County Board chambers in a January 24 meeting. “I stand in support of Sheriff Mendrick. He has done an outstanding job keeping our communities safe. He has also worked very hard in turning around the lives of those incarcerated in his jail,” Ives said. “When Sheriff Mendrick started heroin and criminality recidivism rates were 90% and 75% respectively and came down to 18 and 15% respectively. The chairwoman herself, just acknowledged that DuPage is one of the safest states in the country.” “It is remarkable, and hypocritical, of the chairman, and her Democrat state legislative colleagues and the Democrat Congressional delegation to politically assault Sheriff Mendrick for his thoughtful and reasonable position that HB5471 is unconstitutional. After Fridays decision by an IL judge to issue a TRO on the law, it is likely that the law IS unconstitutional.” “The DuPage chairman has herself passed numerous laws, that she probably thought were constitutional, but they aren’t.” “In 2013, she voted for pension reform, that in 2015 was judged unconstitutional.” “In 2017, she voted for SB31, a law requiring Illinois officials to not enforce federal immigration laws.” “For a decade, she voted for unbalanced budgets that are unconstitutional.” “And the chairman, along with her fellow legislators have passed numerous laws without the constitutionally required single subject for a bill or the requirement to read a bill on three separate days before passage.” “Those last two provisions were two of the reasons the judge issued a TRO on the law.” “The Chairman commented that ‘You do not get to choose which laws you comply with in the state of Illinois.’” “Five million illegal immigrants have crossed our border in the last two years and none of these people who insist that our laws be followed have said anything about that.” “If you think this is about keeping people safe, then you should know the chairwoman sponsored and voted for HB3447 which decriminalizes possession of enough fentanyl to kill 1500 people. She does not care about public safety.” “Everyone wants the violence to stop. But taking away the rights of legal gun owners while Cook County refuses to prosecute criminals with illegal guns is irrational.” “And it is telling that the law allows gun manufacturers in Illinois to continue to make and sell these now ‘banned’ guns for people in other states. SO, I guess it isn’t about the guns.” U.S. Rep. Sean Casten (D-IL) took to extreme language in his characterization of the decision by Mendrick and nearly 90% of the state’s sheriffs to not enforce the law saying the sheriff’s “actions are going to make future mass shootings more likely.” Mendrick answered Casten’s accusations in a statement. “There is absolutely nothing that we are doing or not doing that would make a mass shooting more accessible in DuPage County,” Mendrick said. “In fact, I have asked on multiple occasions to increase penalties on all existing gun crimes, but it does not appear that they want to have that conversation.” Casten was one of five other Democrats in Illinois’ congressional delegation who penned a letter against Mendrick.)

The Illinois Youth Survey is undertaken every two years by participating school districts across the state. FHN provided the survey results for Stephenson and Jo Daviess counties, which showed that past-year alcohol use is between 24 – 31% in the 10th grade, increasing to 44 – 52% in the 12th grade, with more than 50% of the students who drank reporting that they received the alcohol from their parents. Winnebago County showed 32% alcohol use in 10th grade, increasing to 42% in 12th grade. Boone County showed 27% in 10th grade and 34% in 12th grade. Ogle County showed 31% alcohol use in 10th grade, increasing to 51% in 12th grade. ALBUQERQUE JOURNAL — Governments that disarm the people have troubling history – CLIFFORD C. NICHOLS https://www.abqjournal.com/1154293/governments-that-disarm-the-people-have-troubling-history.html (FROM THE ARTICLE: When considering gun controls, a nation must first acknowledge that this world is, by definition, broken. It’s a given evil will erupt from time to time, no matter what anyone does to prevent it. It’s just where and when it will happen that is most often unforeseeable. Once that is agreed upon, perhaps we can also further agree that, when evil does erupt – whether the threat is personal or national – the last thing any of us should want is for us to have allowed our government to have removed our ability to defend ourselves against it. Consider Hitler. He took away guns in Germany in the 1930s and in every country he conquered thereafter, particularly from (those) “disfavored” by his government. In the words of Heinrich Himmler, “Ordinary citizens don’t need guns, as having guns doesn’t serve the State.” Within that context, compare the evolution of today’s gun debate with the events that actually occurred in Germany not so very long ago: “In 1931, Weimar (Republic government) authorities discovered plans for a Nazi takeover… In reaction to such threats, the (Weimer) government authorized the registration of all firearms … for ‘public safety.’ The interior minister warned that the records must not fall into the hands of any extremist group. “In 1933, the ultimate extremist group, led by Adolf Hitler, seized power and used the (gun registration) records (of the former Weimer government) to identify, disarm, and attack political opponents and Jews. …” (“How the Nazis Used Gun Control,” by Stephen P. Halbrook, National Review, Dec. 2, 2013.) At minimum, the foregoing should highlight that, from the perspective of some governments’ like Hitler’s, the operative word in “gun control” is control. Such control as that which allowed the Nazis, i.e. German government, in the 1940s to deport millions of people on trains to destinations like Auschwitz from every country over which Hitler’s “government,” i.e. tyranny, took control…. These were people who knew … they were destined to die – people who should have resisted, but didn’t in part because they had been disarmed. Guns taken from good people by their government only really matters when government, for whatever reason, turns evil and decides to do evil to good people. Whether a person supported Clinton or Trump, all should be able to agree … any government anywhere is susceptible to becoming a tyranny led by men or women who are evil. If you don’t think that can happen in any nation – even America – think again. Consider the massacre at Wounded Knee in South Dakota on Dec. 29, 1890. After the United States 7th Cavalry confiscated the firearms of a group of Lakota Sioux “for their own safety and protection at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation,” 297 Indians were murdered. After the majority of the Sioux had peacefully turned in their firearms, the Calvary began shooting and wiped out the camp; 200 of the dead were women and children. To empower the people of the United States with the ability to resist any tyranny that might threaten them in the future was the sole reason our founding fathers gave all Americans the right to bear arms guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment. Those who disagree should ask: Why?)
