http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-bruce-rauner-cursive-20171026-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: House Republican leader Jim Durkin of Western Springs has released a list of mayors and village presidents who are backing his re-election. He released the list after Burr Ridge Village President Mickey Straub said earlier this month that he was considering a primary challenge to Durkin, who has been House GOP leader since 2013 and has served in the legislature for 19 years. The 16 mayors backing Durkin come from throughout the suburban area including from outside his district, such as Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin, Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico and Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns. But he’s also backed closer to home by Western Springs Village President Alice Gallagher and Homer Glen Mayor George Yukich. Straub’s potential challenge to Durkin is part of the conservative fallout over GOP Gov. Bruce Rauner’s decision to sign legislation expanding taxpayer-subsidized abortions. Some conservatives also expressed dismay that several Republicans defected from Rauner and Durkin to join with Democrats in enacting a spending and tax-hike package that ended the state’s historic budget impasse in July. Straub said many conservative groups encouraged him to take on Durkin, including getting support from failed 2010 governor candidate and current radio show host Dan Proft and onetime U.S. Senate candidate Patrick Hughes. Proft and Hughes co-founded the politically tax-exempt group the Illinois Opportunity Project.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: State Rep. Jeanne Ives sounds like she’ll be a candidate for Illinois governor. The Wheaton Republican is one of the most conservative members of the General Assembly, and she is hopping mad at Gov. Bruce Rauner, whom she contends is not trustworthy. Rauner angered many in his party by signing a bill last month providing state funding for elective abortions. He did this after promising multiple Catholic bishops and state lawmakers that he wouldn’t. “He’s failed the integrity test. No one in the Legislature believes a word he says,” Ives said. If Ives enters the race, she would be the only candidate opposing abortion rights in either the Republican or Democrat gubernatorial primaries. “The state is broke. We can’t afford to create another entitlement program, let alone for something as morally reprehensible as abortion,” she said. But Ives says her objection to Rauner goes beyond this. For example, although he ran on a platform opposing “crony capitalism,” Rauner signed a measure giving a multibillion-dollar bailout to Exelon, a power company. Are you starting to get the feeling that she really dislikes the governor? Yeah, me too. But it’s one thing to object to what the leader of your party is doing, and it’s another thing to leave your safe seat in the Legislature and challenge him. Ives said she hasn’t decided yet whether she will run. But listening to her, it sure sounds like she is on the brink of diving in. But running and winning are two different things. And, sadly, money is the lifeblood of politics. Ives began the month with $8,488 in her campaign coffers, while Rauner had $65.5 million. Most of that money came from either himself or his billionaire buddy, businessman Ken Griffin. That almost makes David and Goliath seem like an even contest. And the front-runner for the Democratic nomination, J.B. Pritzker, also is a billionaire who is self- funding. Could Ives beat not only Rauner but Pritzker? Mike Lawrence, a longtime statehouse observer and former senior adviser to Gov. Jim Edgar, is skeptical. “I don’t think she will win the primary, but I’m not writing her off. I think if she runs, she will start out with a solid 30 percent of Republicans who vote in primaries. Far-right conservatives have a disproportionate influence in primaries,” he said. Lawrence noted that when Edgar ran in the Republican primary in 1990 against Steve Baer, the relatively unknown Baer got more than 30 percent of the vote, mainly from anti-abortion voters angry that Edgar supported abortion rights. So, can a middle-class mother of five beat two of the wealthiest men in Illinois? She faces long odds. But she seems undeterred. And there may be a certain populist appeal to someone who isn’t among the wealthiest Illinoisans running. When pressed about her candidacy, Ives said her 8th-grade daughter told her, “Mom, I thought you were going to announce last week.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Senate GOP Leader BILL BRADY, R-Bloomington, on Wednesday announced that JASON GERWIG is his new press secretary. Gerwig, 44, of Springfield, takes over for PATTY SCHUH, who was named Gov. Rauner’s deputy chief of staff for communications earlier this month. Gerwig has worked for the GOP Senate staff, the state treasurer’s office, the Illinois GOP, DuPage County government, and the FleishmanHillard public relations firm in Chicago. He’s been back on Senate staff since January 2016, and his pay goes to $105,000 — up from $98,500 — in the new job. He grew up in Evergreen Park and double-majored in history and political science at North Central College in Naperville. He and his wife, EMILY, have a 5-year-old daughter. “Jason brings over 20 years of communications and government experience to this important position, and he’s been a well-respected, and valued, member of our staff,” Brady said. Gerwig was first on Senate GOP communications staff in 1996. He said that even back then, the job he just got was one to which he aspired. “I took a long road to get there, but I’m happy to be doing it now,” he said.)

While I worked for the federal government, they wanted Congress a) to have my Democrat GAO superiors force me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, always rank me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, not promote me beyond GS-13, keep me off audits of IRS, and force me to take an $18,847 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980; b) to have my Democrat IRS superiors not promote me beyond GS-12, disallow my education deductions in 1978, and disallow my partial day per diem claims in 1974; and c) to have my Democrat Post Office superiors force me resign in 1969 and disallow my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968. In Diersen v. GAO, my Democrat GAO superiors stated that they treated me just like Congress wanted them to.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Gov. Bruce Rauner says he is calling on Congress to pass a federal bill that would allow Illinois to reorganize its pension debt, but no one must have picked up the phone. Last month, Rauner told a group of business leaders that he’s pushing for a bill that would allow the state to restructure much of its estimated $130 billion in unfunded pension liabilities. “We’ve got a bill now. We’re working with Congress to pass a law. We’re lobbying right now that would allow states to reorganize and restructure their pensions,” he said. “If we can get this bill passed in Congress, and I’m hoping to get it done with this tax overhaul that we’re doing, if we can get this bill passed, [it will be] transformative to Illinois taxpayers.” But none of Illinois’ Republican congressional delegation would confirm this week that anyone from Rauner’s camp has approached them about a standalone proposal or one that would be tied in with the coming tax reform plan. Rauner doesn’t have the best relationship with the GOP Congressmen. They strongly rebuked Rauner last month for his signing of a controversial bill allowing for the public funding of abortions. Rep. Peter Roskam, R-Wheaton, who’s in charge of the GOP’s tax reform plan, wouldn’t comment on the premise of allowing a bankruptcy-style restructuring but told others that the idea has been discussed but only conceptually. The Hill reports that House Speaker Paul Ryan will release the details of their tax reform legislation next week. A spokesperson with the governor’s office did not immediately respond to questions for this story.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: In a press release today, the Chicago Republican Party expressed disappointment that a staffer has been denied access to Illinois Republican Party headquarters. The Chicago GOP staffer was told by a Rauner staffer that he could no longer use a desk within the office. According to the press release, the reason the IL GOP offered is a press report that Chris Cleveland, chairman of the Chicago Republican Party, is under consideration as a running mate for State Rep Jeanne Ives. Ives is considering a gubernatorial bid. “We’re disappointed the governor’s team would do something like this. We’re running candidates in Chicago, and the city and state parties need to coordinate so they’re not left out in the cold,” said Cleveland. “The governor should be above such petty retribution.”)

WASHINGTON POST
— Flake and Corker feel liberated to speak their minds. That should terrify Trump. – James Hohmann (DIERSEN: When my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 years old, they liberated me to speak my mind, but that did not worry them at all because they knew that I had no “jury appeal” because of my terrible demographics. Further, they wanted me to serve as an “example” to current and potential future GAO employees. They wanted current and potential future GAO employees to see a) that GAO gives preference to its employees who are Democrat, minority, female, younger, and/or veteran, that is, that GAO discriminates against its employees who are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran and b) that GAO wastes the careers of and gets rid of its employees who complain about political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, or age discrimination. Further, they knew that virtually all the Republican activists, candidates, elected officials, party leaders, major donors, and political consultants in Illinois promote patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation.)

Because I complained about political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation and because in 1988 when I was 40 years old, I became an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged GAO with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation, my Democrat superiors disciplined me as follows: a) my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $18,847 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980; b) my Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974; and c) my Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968.)

WBEZ
— Primary challenge for Rauner?
https://www.wbez.org/shows/wbez-news/4-takeaways-from-gov-bruce-rauners-reelection-launch/e98ff166-6dd8-4f1d-a492-67ad30c00ade
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Walsh has taken himself out of a primary against Rauner but is considering an independent run. All eyes are now on State Rep. Jeanne Ives, a three-term House member from west suburban Wheaton. She’s been the most visible voice of conservative anger over Rauner’s abandonment of a past pledge to veto legislation that allows public funding for abortions. Ives told WBEZ Monday she intends to announce an exploratory committee for governor this week and has gotten commitments of support from past Rauner donors. She also ridiculed Rauner’s campaign video: “To me, it didn’t matter what he said in that video. You can’t trust his word. Venture capitalist Rauner would have fired Rauner by now for failure to perform and for lying.” How hard is it to unseat a sitting Illinois governor in a primary? It’s beyond hard. And in recent political history, it’s been outright impossible. Going back to 1990, incumbent Illinois governors have been challenged four times in primaries. Each time, the challengers got clobbered. Protest votes against Republican Gov. Jim Edgar and Democratic Govs. Rod Blagojevich and Pat Quinn trended between 25 percent and 33 percent. Rauner is clearly vulnerable with one poll in March measuring his public approval numbers in the mid-30s. But Rauner has money in the bank: $65.5 million to be exact. Last week, by contrast, Ives reported only $8,500 in her political fund.)

— How to Know When You’re on Thin Ice at Work – Sue Shellenbarger (DIERSEN: Democrats run the federal government. They use Affirmative Action, Diversity, and Inclusion to not hire, to waste the careers of, and to get rid of Republicans, and especially Republicans who are White, male, older, and/or non-veteran. While I worked for the federal government for almost 30 years, I was always on thin ice. GAO hired me in 1980 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, younger person, or veteran who would take the job. IRS hired me in 1971 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, or veteran who would take the job. The Post Office hired me in 1966 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, or veteran who would take the job. Because I have always been a Republican, were it not for federal civil service protections, a) the Post Office would NOT have hired me in 1966 or let me work there for almost 3 years, b) IRS would NOT have hired me in 1971 or let me work there for almost 9 years, c) IRS would NOT have promoted me in 1972, 1973, or 1974, d) GAO would NOT have hired me in 1980 or let me work there for almost 18 years, and e) GAO would NOT have promoted me in 1986.)

A coalition of conservative, anti-abortion organizations met Saturday for the second time in as many weeks to discuss a “viable Republican primary candidate” against the first-term governor, according to Paul Caprio, director of the Family-Pac political action committee. While no formal decision was made, Caprio said the group of about 35 people planned to meet again in November “to further clarify the group’s position” and likely endorse a challenger to Rauner. “Historically, the way the pro-life, pro-family movement has operated relative to selecting and endorsing candidates for statewide office, we have always had a meeting of all of these different groups together,” Caprio said. The coalition met around this time three years ago, he continued, at which point there was a split, though not drastic, among its members in their support of a gubernatorial candidate. The group officially endorsed then-state Sen. Kirk Dillard, though some in attendance chose instead to back state Sen. Bill Brady. Rauner – the eventual nominee – was invited to the 2014 meeting despite his pro-abortion rights stance at the time, though he declined to attend or fill out a questionnaire to receive the organizations’ support and financial backing. While some of the organizations eventually ended up supporting Rauner in the race against the incumbent Democrat Pat Quinn, this time around, the coalition has made it clear that under no circumstances will Rauner receive their endorsement. During its initial meeting on Oct. 9, the coalition of 20 statewide organizations voted unanimously in favor of a “Bill of Particulars” outlining the groups’ stance on Rauner and in particular, his support of House Bill 40. Signed into law on Sept. 28, HB 40 allows the state of Illinois to cover abortions for its employees and Medicaid recipients, and protects access to abortion in Illinois should the landmark Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing it be overturned. Rauner publicly changed his stance on the issue multiple times, attempting to traverse the politically difficult decision without alienating either his GOP base or more moderate, particularly female voters ahead of his upcoming bid for re-election. However, his choice to ultimately sign the bill into law angered conservatives, who have quickly moved to organize against him. The coalition’s “Bill of Particulars” vows that the groups will not support Rauner in next year’s GOP primary or general election after he “shockingly, caved to pressure from radical abortion extremists and signed this dastardly legislation” and will only support candidates committed to repealing the law. This marks a major departure from 2014 in which some organizations offered Rauner their qualified endorsement in solely the general election. Now, conservative groups have not only disavowed Rauner, but are actively searching for a challenger. One potential candidate is state Rep. Jeanne Ives, of Wheaton. Ives said earlier this month that she was “exploring the option by having important conversations with folks around the state,” and while she hasn’t begun circulating nominating petitions, sources said that may change over the next week. Ives is looking into forming an exploratory committee, sources said, adding that she would likely run if she could raise $1 million. While Ives is among the candidates that the anti-abortion groups are considering, Caprio said there have been a few other names floated and the coalition hopes to make an official determination at its next meeting in November. Reflecting on this year’s “unusual set of circumstances,” Caprio said that there are typically three or four significant candidates in the race at the time the groups make their decision, but without any declared challengers – who would certainly face an uphill battle against an incumbent Republican governor with very deep pockets – the task of reaching a consensus has become that much more difficult. But the groups are united in their staunch opposition to Rauner’s re-election, so much so that Caprio foresees a situation in which conservatives might even “take two bites at the apple.” While the right-wing firebrand was not in attendance at Saturday’s meeting, former Congressman Joe Walsh is also considering throwing his hat in the ring for governor – but only as an Independent. In August, Walsh slammed Rauner, saying he was “done” should the governor sign a bill to effectively turn Illinois into a so-called “sanctuary state,” preventing law enforcement officials from detaining individuals based solely on their immigration status. And ever since Rauner signed that bill the following week, it appears as though Walsh – who did not immediately respond to request for comment – has been floating the idea of taking on the governor himself. “He feels like he’s going to focus his interest, in the issue of the defeat of Rauner, on the possibility of his own Independent candidacy,” Caprio said of Walsh, adding that the oft-incendiary radio host is “very interested” in running. But Walsh is leaning towards waiting until after the primary, Caprio said, to see if Rauner is able to emerge victorious even without a large swath of conservative support. If the billionaire governor succeeds, Walsh may at that point enter the race as an Independent – drawing both votes and perhaps even the backing of Republican organizations away from the GOP governor. “If Rauner and his millions are able to buy the election, if our candidate were not successful in the Republican primary, then I think there would be a very serious discussion of the possibility of an independent candidate,” Caprio said. But first, the organizations will gather once again in November at which point it’s “very likely that we will have a candidate,” he added.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Sunday that 14,020 people have applied to become Chicago Police officers. The Chicago Police Department will give an exam in December, the second one this year and the fourth in six years. The city plans to add nearly 1,000 officers by the end of 2018. The mayor said his proposed budget includes more than $27 million for increased police training to help departments reach hiring goals. In August, Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said the two-year hiring plan was moving on schedule, and that an April exam generated 8,700 qualified candidates. When announcing the upcoming exam, Johnson emphasized a need for greater diversity in the police force. “CPD should reflect the demographics of this city. If we’re gonna get there, we have to ensure that we have a viable pool of people to constantly pull from,” he said. The mayor’s office said the current “applicant pool reflects the diversity of the city.” Of the applicants, 35 percent are female and 76 percent identify as minorities. The exam is scheduled for Dec. 16 at McCormick Place.)

The attorney suggested in a letter that the marker could read that Ridgeway supported “victims of clergy sex abuse.” Ruhl says it is important to keep the words “priest rapist victims” because those are the people his mother supported.)

If they had not succeeded in forcing me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 years old, I would have paid into the CSRS $172,187 instead of the CSRS paying me $1,017,120 in today’s dollars.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-bruce-rauner-washington-20171020-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The focus on D.C. allows the first-term governor to show supporters he has a plan for delivering on the promises he made as a candidate despite losing a two-year budget battle with Democrats over the summer. And it comes as Rauner prepares for a re-election campaign in which he needs to win back his conservative base after his approval of controversial abortion and immigration legislation left many of them angry. Much of the major legislation Rauner signed this year — an overhaul of the state’s education funding system and a boost in spending on schools; a bill protecting immigrants from federal deportation efforts; an expansion of taxpayer-funded abortions; and a new law allowing automatic voter registration — are measures that Democrats first pushed. Left undone is his promise to get the state’s financial house in order, which hinged in part on cutting the cost of Illinois’ unionized government workforce. Speaking to a gathering of business leaders in late September, Rauner said he was turning to Washington for help with one part of that effort — getting control of Illinois’ massive pension debt, which stands at about $130 billion and ranks among the worst in the nation. “We need the help. We need the help because the system’s rigged. Can’t change it, can’t fix it,” Rauner said. As a candidate and as governor, Rauner had proposed cutting pension costs by transitioning workers to less generous benefit packages or 401(k)-style retirement plans. But past attempts to cut retirement costs have run up against legal problems. The Illinois Constitution stipulates that benefits cannot be “diminished or impaired” once they are bestowed to workers, and the state Supreme Court has stood by those words. The governor thinks Congress can release the state from that restriction by passing a law that would give states permission to come up with cost-saving changes to their pension programs. The option would be available to states only after they had established that spending money on workers’ retirement plans is hampering other essential services.)

Those were the reasons why my Democrat GAO superiors succeeded in forcing me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 years old. (FROM THE ARTICLE: 1. Don’t start spending more because you’re making more. . .2. Start saving more, and think about maxing out multiple retirement accounts. . .3. Look for side work that you can sustain in the long term. . .4. Focus on owning your home outright. . .5. Find a sacrifice you’re willing to make that most people deem “necessary.” . . 6. Set up passive income streams.)

BUSINESS INSIDER
— I retired at 30 with $1.25 million — here are the 3 key strategies I used to get there – Grant Sabatier (DIERSEN: What is the main reason why you have less money? For me, the main reason is that my Democrat superiors in the federal government wasted my career and forced me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 years old.)
http://www.businessinsider.com/net-worth-million-strategies-anyone-can-use-2017-10
(FROM THE ARTICLE: How long will it take you to save $1 million? This all depends on how much money you are making, how much you are saving, and how much your investment grows. Here are the variables that matter most: 1. Income: How much money you are making 2. Expenses: How much money you are spending 3. Savings: How much money you are saving 4. Savings Rate: = Savings divided by #4 5. Investment Growth Rate: How much your investments compound annually. For the purpose of these examples I’ve set it at 7%, but as you’ll see from my specific situation, the higher your compounding rate that faster you will reach $1 million.)

DAILY SIGNAL
— The Facts About Who Pays the Most in Taxes in America – Walter E. Williams (DIERSEN: Should everyone in America be required to publicly disclose each year how much federal income tax that they paid during the last year and during the last 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35. 40, 45, and 50+ years adjusted for inflation?)
http://dailysignal.com/2017/10/18/rich-pay-fair-share-numbers/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The top 10 percent of income earners, those having an adjusted gross income over $138,031, pay about 70.6 percent of federal income taxes. About 1.7 million Americans, less than 1 percent of our population, pay 70.6 percent of federal income taxes. Is that fair, or do you think they should pay more? By the way, earning $500,000 a year doesn’t make one rich. It’s not even yacht money. But the fairness question goes further. The bottom 50 percent of income earners, those having an adjusted gross income of $39,275 or less, pay 2.83 percent of federal income taxes. Thirty-seven million tax filers have no tax obligation at all. The Tax Policy Center estimates that 45.5 percent of households will not pay federal income tax this year. There’s a severe political problem of so many Americans not having any skin in the game. These Americans become natural constituencies for big-spending politicians. After all, if you don’t pay federal taxes, what do you care about big spending? Also, if you don’t pay federal taxes, why should you be happy about a tax cut? What’s in it for you? In fact, you might see tax cuts as threatening your handout programs.)

— The truth about DACA is uglier than we’ve been told – MATT O’BRIEN
http://thehill.com/opinion/immigration/356231-the-truth-about-daca-is-uglier-than-weve-been-told
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The narrative surrounding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program holds that it was put in place to protect “kids” who were brought here through no fault of their own. DACA supporters implied that applicants were mostly Hispanic and that as citizens of distressed republics a short distance away from the wealthy United States, their violation of our immigration laws was somehow understandable. Program applicants were also portrayed as brilliant valedictorians and proud members of the military. From the outset, that narrative rang hollow. In a column for the Washington Post, Mickey Kaus described it as public-relations-style “hooey.” Here’s why. Many of the DACA “kids” were not brought here as young children. They entered the U.S. illegally as teenagers. A large number of DACA applicants weren’t “brought” here at all. They crossed the border themselves. Over 2,000 individuals approved for DACA had their status terminated for criminal activity ranging from alien smuggling to sexual assault. That number is still growing. Fewer than 900 DACA recipients – or slightly more than one-tenth of one percent of the total DACA population – joined the military. New data released by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) definitively establishes that most of the DACA narrative is false. Particularly overblown are claims that deported DACA recipients would inevitably be strangers in a strange land. USCIS lists 149 countries of origin for DACA applicants. English is the national language in at least 26 of those countries. Those include the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. A large number of applicants are from India, Hong Kong and the Philippines, where there are enormous English-speaking communities. Other statistics also undermine claims that the United States must “take care of the DACAs” or condemn them to a life of isolation and poverty.)

http://www.newsweek.com/old-americans-suffer-one-worst-wage-gaps-world-688081
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Income inequality is rising and the wage gap is widening for American workers—and the problem is even worse for U.S. senior citizens, a new report shows. It’s so bad, in fact, that the income inequality numbers among the elderly in the U.S. resemble more a report out of a developing country than what would be expected of America. The gap between wealthy and poor seniors is one of the widest in any nation in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. The only countries with wider gaps among seniors are Mexico and Chile, according to a study by the OECD and a CNN article. Past generations of retired Americans tended to see increased economic security, but with wages lower in comparison to inflation and fewer middle-class workers retiring with pensions, seniors now are not nearly as financially stable as in the past, according to CNN. Just 29 percent of Americans over 55 years old have a retirement savings account or a pension plan to lean on, a 2015 report from the Government Accountability Office showed. And it only gets worse as younger generations age, another OECD report shows.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Dan Goodwin, Chairman and CEO of The Inland Real Estate Group, is canceling his popular annual holiday luncheon that is always well-attended by elected officials, among other influencers. Last year, news celebrity Megyn Kelly headlined the event and even a few Cubs players, fresh from the World Series win, were on hand. This email went out over the weekend: “As you know, each year for the past decade, it has been Dan Goodwin’s pleasure to host an annual holiday party for leaders throughout our state. While you will receive a formal letter from Mr. Goodwin, he has decided not to host a holiday party this year. As a businessman, philanthropist, and former teacher, he is very aware of how the budget battles in Springfield over the past two years have affected the lives of many of our fellow Illinois citizens. We know that schools, social services, and health care need our support. Therefore, he has decided that in lieu of a holiday party, he will provide additional support directly to various charities that assist the most vulnerable among us.”)
