(FROM THE ARTICLE: The next two days at the Illinois State Fair will feature political rallies led by both political parties as the countdown to next year’s election season marches forward. Democrats will kick off action on Wednesday with Governor’s Day and Republicans follow on Thursday. Outside of the fair, the parties will hold meetings in downtown Springfield including the Illinois Democratic County Chairs’ Association brunch at the Bank of Springfield Center. There, Illinois Democrats will be joined by guest speaker U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nevada, starting at 9 a.m. before heading to the fairgrounds. Republican’s time on the Director’s Lawn will be preceded with several events, among them the Republican County Chairs’ Association president reception on Wednesday before a joint meeting with RCCA and the State Central Committee Thursday morning at the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel. For Democrats and Republicans alike, the fair days and meetings provide opportunities to build up its campaign finance war chests heading into 2024. No statewide candidates will be featured in next year’s election, but votes for president, U.S. Congress, the Illinois House of Representatives and a handful of state Senate seats among other local races will take place. The political days fall just more than seven months away from the March primary, but also less than three weeks from when candidates can begin circulating nomination papers. Congressional, state legislature and other local candidates begin this process on Sept. 5. Presidential candidates start on Oct. 27. All candidates have until Dec. 4 to file the papers with the Illinois State Board of Elections. . .Illinois Republicans have their work cut out for them, not holding power in any of the state’s three branches of government in addition to a smaller pool of political backers for major campaign funding. Who the party chooses to back for the White House has not been clear at this point, but it could have to put its weight behind a familiar name. National polls indicate if the presidential election were to take place today, it would be a 2020 rematch of Biden and former President Donald Trump. Already not a popular figure in Illinois, losing the state by more than 15 points in both 2016 and 2020, Trump is coming off his fourth indictment this time for allegedly tinkering with 2020 election results in Georgia. The indictments of the former commander-in-chief have prompted varying responses from GOP lawmakers in the state, some of which have pledged continued support to Trump and others to say move on. U.S. Rep. Mary Miller, R-Oakland, has claimed investigations led by the U.S. Department of Justice into Trump have been politically motivated. “The American people will not tolerate this attack from Biden’s DOJ on our electoral process or our system of justice, where justice is supposed to be blind,” she said in a statement earlier this month. The party’s 2022 gubernatorial candidate, Darren Bailey, rose in prominence among Republicans before the primary thanks in part to an endorsement from the former president. Still, he and other candidates speaking at last year’s fair were mum on Trump and instead focused on what they described as failures by Democrats to control crime and spending. That backing from Trump, in the end, proved in some ways to bite Bailey in the general election where Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker won a second term with comfortable margins.)

In 1997, when I was 49 years old, my Democrat GAO superiors succeeded in forcing me to take their early retirement “offer” that expired on September 30th of that year. If I had not taken their “offer,” I would not have been eligible to take regular retirement until I was 55 in 2003. In 1998, my attorney filed a lawsuit in Washington DC against them charging them with political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Over the past three months, the number of reporters with access to the White House dropped by 31%. There are now 442 fewer reporters with a coveted “hard pass”—the result of new rules announced in May that took effect Tuesday. The Daily Signal’s Fred Lucas was among the reporters slated to lose his White House press credentials, although he was given a 10-day extension “to submit the required materials.” The White House now requires reporters to obtain press credentials from Congress or the Supreme Court to fulfill its new requirement; Lucas is currently awaiting a decision on his applications to the other branches. Politico’s West Wing Playbook first reported the numbers Wednesday along with news that Simon Ateba, the White House correspondent for Today News Africa, lost his hard pass. Ateba, along with the other 441 reporters who no longer have credentials, won’t be able to attend White House press briefings or access the sprawling Pennsylvania Avenue campus unless they obtain what’s called a temporary day pass. The White House announced new rules in May to limit the number of journalists who are eligible for a White House hard pass. Reporters are still allowed to apply for a day pass, but they must do so daily and undergo Secret Service review. Up until this week, the White House didn’t disclose the number of reporters who had a hard pass. Politico reported, “Within the past three months, the number of hard pass holders dropped from 1,417 to 975, with those approved reflecting a mix of renewals and new applications.” . . . The six rules outlined in the May memo require reporters to be employed full time at an organization that disseminates news, live in the Washington, D.C., area, regularly access and cover the White House, and submit to a Secret Service investigation. Another Republican, former DuPage County Board member Pete DiCianni, was paid by Conroy’s campaign for marketing efforts to get her elected. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Safe Suburbs USA is questioning which suburban communities Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is planning on partnering with to punt the city’s illegal immigrant population. As of 2023, Chicago’s sanctuary status has attracted over 800,000 undocumented residents. “Mayor Johnson says he’s been in dialogue with suburban cities to help share the migrant burden,” Safe Suburbs USA said on Twitter. “Johnson says he sees suburban support on the horizon. Is your community one that is agreeing to do this?” Johnson noted in a recent press conference that he had been in discussions with suburban governments to accept the border crossers. “We see some real support on the horizon,” Johnson said at the press conference, Chicago City Wire reported. The Migration Policy Institute reports DuPage County, where Safe Suburbs USA, is based is already home to over 32,000 illegal immigrants, which is over three times the 10,000 reported in each of the counties of DuPage, Kane, Lake, and Will in 2014 by the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. The bulk of the undocumented population comprises those aged 35 to 44. But that figure pales in comparison to Chicago’s staggering population of 829,000, according to NBC News, which also reports Chicago’s open arms policies have given illegal immigrants a soft landing spot. The city has taken to setting up temporary shelters, sometimes in police stations where allegations of sexual impropriety have arisen, and committing millions of taxpayer dollars to provide for those in the country illegally. While former mayor Lori Lightfoot spoke welcoming words to those incoming she later changed her tune when Texas Gov. Greg Abbott began sending border crosses to Chicago and other Democrat-controlled sanctuary cities by the busload. Johnson has similarly toed a line between welcoming the undocumented to the city – where there is no longer room – while condemning the politics of those seeking to put an end to illegal border crossings. Thus, Johnson’s move to push the undocumented to the suburbs.)
