Fear of social sanctions (FOSSs) therefore represents a promising approach to investigate why people often avoid expressing political opinions online. Using panel survey data collected during the 2020 U.S. election, this study examines the predictors of FOSSs, as well as its relationship with several forms of online political expression. Results indicate that the ideological diversity of people’s online networks fosters their FOSSs, which in turn is associated with decreases in several types of online political expression. Thus, FOSSs may be an important determinant in individuals’ calculations to express political opinions online and may also hinder lower commitment forms of political engagement. Social media allow people to publicly express their political views, but many say they do not take advantage of this opportunity because they are afraid that sharing their political opinions online could lead to negative consequences in their personal or professional lives, such as damaging their relationships with friends and family or jeopardizing their job. This study has two goals. First, we examine whether characteristics of people’s social media environments impact their fears about sharing their political views online. Second, we test whether fears about the social and professional consequences of sharing political views online actually make it less likely that people express their political opinions on social media. We find that people who have more politically diverse social media environments are more fearful of sharing their political views online. We also find that people who are more afraid of the social and professional consequences of sharing their political views on social media often engage in self-censorship, becoming less likely to share news or their political opinions online, including liking or commenting on political posts made by others. This suggests that fears about the negative consequences of sharing political views on social media can limit political expression online.)

The fact that 8.5 million illegal immigrants have obtained work in the country is a result of employers paying workers under the table, unknowingly hiring workers who have committed document fraud, and hiring non-U.S. citizens whom the government authorizes to work temporarily. The largest number of illegal immigrants work in construction, followed by accommodation, food services, and manufacturing. Immigrants who are paid under the table are the most difficult for the federal government to track because they are often employed in person-to-person gigs. These include workers hired at home improvement stores or as house cleaners who offer their services on social media marketplaces, as well as businesses such as landscaping companies and restaurants. All employers in the U.S. are legally required to verify that new hires have completed an I-9 form, which requires the applicant’s Social Security number, proof of identity, and work authorization documentation. Select immigrants navigating immigration proceedings in court or who are temporarily protected from deportation may be issued a Social Security card for the purpose of working legally in the U.S., but this document does not confer U.S. citizenship or lawful presence. The Bipartisan Policy Center defended workers who are illegal immigrants and said many choose to file federal taxes on their own at the year’s end despite working off the books. In this case, workers without Social Security numbers use an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number issued by the IRS to report income and pay taxes on what they earn. “Many undocumented immigrants find ways to legally pay both federal income and payroll taxes even if they don’t have a Social Security number (which is normally required) and even if their income was earned by working illegally,” the BPC wrote in an analysis on illegal immigrants in the workplace. “Though there are many undocumented immigrants who are paid ‘under the table’ for their work and do not pay taxes on their income, many others do pay in the hope that it will someday help them become citizens,” the BPC analysis reads.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: To bring our nation back to legitimate self reliance would require a total reformation of our society and the removal of the political left (including globalists) from the equation. Part of this long term reformation demands a reversal of open borders ideology and multiculturalism, which has ravaged the west. Migrants view our economy as a “global commons”, a wealth pool they are all entitled to access. They don’t see it is a privilege, they see it as a “right”. This is something that Trump does have the capacity to fix in the three years he has left in office, but he has a tendency to get sidetracked by minutia and bad advice. I have been warning since before Trump was re-elected that the economy was going to be his Achilles Heal. From past examples it seems that Trump delegates a lot of his policy ideas to advisers and among these advisers (he has dozens of them, official and unofficial) there are always people who give him suicidal arguments and terrible talking points. His lack of concrete planning for economic repair is putting conservatives on edge and handing immense social influence over to Democrats and woke activists. All they have to do is point at the lack of a clear strategy and suggest that they can do better (they can’t, but it won’t matter to voters living paycheck to paycheck). Trump has done some things right. His tariff policies are absolutely necessary to counter the wealth gap created by corporate globalism. The US has been turned into a consumer nation that continuously takes on debt in order to create ever depreciating wealth. That wealth is then siphoned from the public by international conglomerates, banks and foreign interests. We are being slowly drained of our lifeblood by a nest of vampires. Tariffs are one of the few measures at Trump’s disposal to unilaterally stop the bleeding and force corporations to bring the wealth and jobs back to the US. This is done through new domestic manufacturing and the end of general outsourcing using third world labor. Globalism is NOT the free market, it is the opposite. It is forced interdependency of nations and economies to the benefit of a tiny handful of ultra-wealthy elites. The tariff fight is direct and Trump’s reasons are evident. The average Joe wants more American jobs with higher salaries for the middle class instead of wallowing in low-wage retail and service sector hell. But Trump can’t say he’s fighting for this end result through tariffs and then turn around and let an army of migrants take middle class jobs. The President stumbled into multiple forehead slapping blunders this past week. He called for 600,000 Chinese students to prop up US colleges. He called for 50-year mortgages to offset plunging home ownership, and he argued that America doesn’t have the talent pool to fill jobs taken by H1B foreigners.)
