Alan was warmly received by the crowd which gave him several standing ovations during his 20-minute speech. State Senators Kirk Dillard and Peter Roskam served as Master of Ceremonies. Senator Dillard introduced the elected officials and candidates who were on the band shell stage with Alan while he gave his speech — State Senator Raymond Soden, State Representative Randy Hultgren, State Representative Candidate Roger Jenisch, DuPage County Board Commissioner Debra Olson, DuPage Coroner candidate Peter Siekmann, Illinois GOP State Central Committeeman Ron Smith, Milton Township Assessor Jim Gumm, and Milton Township Trustee Don Sender. The band shell stage is the same one that Bob Dole gave a speech from immediately after he walked in Wheaton’s 1996 Independence Day Parade — CNN broadcast that speech live. Senator Dillard recognized event attendees including DuPage County Auditor Jim Rasins, DuPage County Regional Superintendent of Schools Darlene Ruscitti, DuPage Regional School Board Trustee Tim Whelan, and District 89 School Board Trustee Howard Levine. He recognized the event’s sponsors — State Farm Insurance Agent Mark Prutzman, Oberweis Dairy, John Cox, All Star Printing, himself, Randy Hultgren, Debra Olson, Pete Siekmann, Tim Whelan, Don Sender, and Diersen Consulting. Senator Roskam gave some remarks concerning September 11 and he introduced Alan. Apparently, even though the Daily Herald, the Wheaton Leader, and the Wheaton Sun had been asked to cover the event, the only reporters who covered the event were Rich Samuels with WTTW’s Chicago Tonight and Dave Diersen with GOPUSA.com. Samuels and Diersen made VHS recordings of Alan’s speech. Event photographers included Matt Ferguson and Don Sender. The free event provided attendees with a great opportunity to enjoy great food, to meet their neighbors, to meet their elected officials, and to meet candidates who will appear on November 2 ballots in DuPage County. On July 5 last year, 200 attended a similar event in Wheaton’s Prairie Path Park, including Jack Ryan, Jim Oberweis, Andy McKenna, Chirinjeev Kathuria, and John Cox. Attendees at this year’s event enjoyed hot dogs and Polish sausages personally handed out by Debbie Malek from her cart. Debbie normally locates her cart at Cross and Wesley Streets at the southeast corner of Wheaton’s Adam’s Park, across the street from Wheaton’s Public Library. My Democrat GAO superiors stressed to her a) that I had become an active member in a class action lawsuit in 1988 that charged them with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation, b) that I was conservative while she was liberal, c) that I was Republican while she was Democrat, d) that she was female while I was male, e) that she was younger than me, f) that she was Jewish while I was baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran, g) that she was 100% Russian American while I was 100% German American, g) that she lived in Chicago while I lived in Crete 1948-1972 and in Wheaton since 1978, h) that Republicans had cut GAO’s budget tremendously, i) that GAO was under tremendous pressure from Democrat politicians to get rid of its employees who were Republican, and especially those who were White, male, older, and/or non-veteran like me, j) that one of my subordinates, a Black CPA, wanted my job and my preferred corner office, k) that she should ignore the fact that I had earned a directly job-related master’s degree in financial markets and trading from IIT in 1997, that I was the only member of her group who tool courses in that program, and that I had gotten her appointed to the advisory board of that program, and l) that she should ignore the fact that I had volunteered to work for her while many, if not most, of my GAO supervisors, coworkers, and subordinate refused to work with her or to work for her because she was female, Jewish, younger than they were, and/or because she had more educational and/or professional credentials than they had. She had an MBA from the University of Chicago and she had passed the CPA examination on her first attempt. During August and September of 1997, when I was 49 years old and was 6 years away from being eligible for regular retirement, she made it clear to me that if I did not take GAO’s early retirement “offer,” GAO would make the rest of my GAO career a living hell, that GAO would constructively demote me, that GAO would assign me to work for those who I had previously supervised, that GAO would my make my performance expectations, performance appraisals, and pay-for-performance rankings even more unfair, and that GAO would take even more severe adverse actions against me. After she and the rest of my Democrat GAO Chicago superiors, all of whom were Jewish, succeeded in forcing me to take their early retirement “offer” on September 30, 1997, she gave my Black CPA subordinate my job and my preferred corner office.)

She says those issues include Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s “overreach” by not working with the legislature to enact Covid-19 mitigation rules, passage of police-reform legislation, and signing a law that decriminalizes possession of certain amounts of fentanyl and cocaine. On the state Senate side, “More Republicans in the Cook County region are interested in running for state office than I’ve seen before,” says Senate GOP Political Director Nick McNeely. There’s no litmus test for running, but the House Republican organization is asking whether candidates believe the 2020 election was stolen. “We’re looking for people who are interested in running and who fit the constituency of their district,” said Odom. Recruiting on all fronts: Along with state House and Senate recruitment efforts, the conservative think tank Illinois Policy Institute (IPI) is scouting for candidates. Even Jeanne Ives, a former GOP state representative who in 2018 lost a congressional race, is working to get candidates to run, according to two Republican Party sources. “When you don’t have contested races, a lot of people don’t vote,” IPI’s Matt Paprocki told Playbook.
