https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2018/11/22/thanksgiving-the-lefts-use-of-national-identity-for-immigration-maximalism/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: This trend of nonstop, immigration maximalism is the sort of driving force that Huntington’s Who Are We? notes has contributed to the decimation of America’s national identity which the political Left has justified through the revisionist story of the pilgrims. “‘We Americans’ face a substantive problem of national identity epitomized by the subject of this sentence. Are we a ‘we,’ one people or several? If we are a ‘we,’ what distinguishes us from the ‘thems’ who are not us? …” Huntington wrote in 2004. “These questions remain for Americans in their post-September 11 era.”)

— The Democrats’ vote-by-mail juggernaut
https://capitolfax.com/2018/11/20/the-democrats-vote-by-mail-juggernaut/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The overwhelming success of the Democrats’ vote-by-mail program is one of the least-covered stories of this election year. In 1994, the Democrats lost 13 House seats by something like 2,000 votes. Lots of races are won and lost at the margins and the Democrats essentially had the vote-by-mail field to themselves. So, as the Republicans talk about what they can do differently in 2020, a solid VBM program should be at or near the top of their list.)

— The way forward
https://capitolfax.com/2018/11/20/the-way-forward/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: I just don’t think that much of anything is going to change between now and 2020, when President Trump is likely to be on the ballot for reelection. The suburbs are gonna be brutal yet again for Republicans. They should focus mostly on Downstate (where the President will help), while doing the best they can to defend suburban incumbents and make an effort at picking off some of the fluke Democratic winners. Start early, work hard and smart and hold Gov. Pritzker to his promise to veto a redistricting map that isn’t fairly drawn and then help make sure his veto isn’t overridden by Democratic super-majorities. Also, find a way to get Dick Uihlein back on the same page. With Rauner and his checkbook making an exit, these primaries will only drain the resources necessary for the general election.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: As of Monday night, Hebreard clung to a 116-vote lead with 177,185 votes, around 50.02 percent of the unofficial total. Cantore had 177,069 votes, around 49.98 percent of the unofficial total. The DuPage County Election Commission counted nearly 300 vote-by-mail ballots on Monday. Suzanne Fahnestock, the commission’s executive director, said Tuesday is the deadline for additional vote-by-mail ballots to arrive. Also on Tuesday, the commission will complete its review of roughly 1,800 provisional ballots, Fahnestock said. Provisional ballots that are found to be valid then will be counted. DuPage’s election results won’t become official until Nov. 27. Then it will be up to the candidates to decide if they want to move to the next step.)

CANADA FREE PRESS
— When You Reward Something, the More You Get of it! – Chuck Lehmann
https://canadafreepress.com/article/when-you-reward-something-the-more-you-get-of-it
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Well, well, how true that statement is especially when it refers to our treatment of illegal aliens. When we give people who have “invaded” our country (even non-militarily) illegally, and we give them food, shelter, clothing, education, health care, sanctuary cities, and a drivers license, you know right away that our benevolence will attract others to do the same, it’s almost like a magnet. In other words, when you reward something the more you get of it. Common sense tells us that if we weren’t so generous to those people we call “illegal aliens” (according to liberals – they’re undocumented workers), the flow of these illegals into our country would drop to a trickle as there would be no incentive for them to not get the “goodies” that we now give them. Why is that so difficult for liberals to understand? Is there a political motive that influences their thought processes? Could it be that they expect these “future citizens” to be reliable Democrat voters? Sounds about right, doesn’t it? But, when you ask a liberal, if someone, he/she doesn’t know, walks through his/her front door uninvited and demands that you take care of them, would you let them stay or would you summon the police to have them removed? The overwhelming answer of these liberals would be “NO” they can’t stay, so why are they against a tightening up the border (with a fence that President Trump wants put in place) in order to prevent letting people into our country that have not been invited? You could deduce that liberals have a “double-standard” and their resistance to tightening up the border is a valid case in point. This column’s headline also applies to other situations affecting our country, like lowering the standards in our schools (the “dumbing” down of the curriculum) and not sufficiently punishing disruptive students, thereby preventing learning from taking place for the students who want to learn. Also, when people in government, in high elective or appointed offices, violate the rules of conduct and they get off with no or little punishment (a slap on the wrist), you’ll get more illegal behavior ( a play on our headline might go like this, “When you reward bad behavior, you get more of it”). The obvious case in point is the rules that Hillary Clinton violated while in office and still no punishment has been meted out because of a two-tier justice system, one for the well connected and one for the rest of us poor slobs. Now, we are faced with another problem that will affect society, and that is the major push by some influential people to legalize drugs. We’ve started with the legalization of marijuana in a few of the states of the union, with more to come on board in the near future. Again, you see that when you reward something, you get more of it. The adverse effects of the legalization of marijuana already has had a negative effect in the State of Colorado where traffic accidents and deaths have spiked up dramatically since legalization. Although marijuana is not a hard drug like cocaine and heroin, it is still a mind altering drug that does affect the person using it, and legalizing it has more people using it, not for medicinal use, but for recreational use. So, in conclusion, when you reward something, you get more of it, can be considered a sane conclusion in those areas mentioned above. It’s just common sense. So, be wary of those who want to do away with our tried and true rules of conduct that have been handed down through the ages, it might just be a change for the worst, not the better.)

But Rooney, considered a moderate in some Republican circles, said he doesn’t see an immediate path forward for the party in suburban elections. He attributed his recent narrow defeat at the polls to suburban dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump. “Absolutely no doubt people had nationalized this election, and quite frankly I spoke to people at doors who said, ‘Sorry, I’m not doing anything with an R,'” said Rooney, a Marco Rubio presidential delegate who even wrote in the Florida senator on the 2016 general election ballot. “The suburban vote is tough for Republicans at this point.”)

DAILY HERALD
— California GOP ponders way forward after stunning losses – AP (DIERSEN: What is the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) pondering? Has your representative on the IRP State Central Committee sought your input? What is on the agenda for the December 1, 2018 IRP SCC meeting? Where, and at what time, will the meeting be held? Will public comments be allowed? What will be discussed in the open part of the meeting and what will be discussed in executive session part of the meeting?)
https://www.dailyherald.com/article/20181116/news/311169983/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “The California Republican Party isn’t salvageable at this time,” concluded Kristin Olsen, a former Republican leader in the state Assembly. “The Grand Old Party is dead – partly because it has failed to separate itself from today’s toxic, national brand of Republican politics,” she wrote in a column on the website CALmatters. Shawn Steel, one of the state’s two Republican National Committee members, said her party has “reached the point of desperation.” “The party’s problems have been around longer and run much deeper than any one person. From money to grassroots organization, California Republicans are completely outmatched,” Steel wrote on the Washington Examiner website. A generation ago, the state was once a reliable win for the GOP in presidential elections. And in Orange County, largely white, conservative homeowners delivered winning margins for Republicans year after year. But a surge in immigrants transformed the state and its voting patterns. The number of Hispanics, blacks and Asians has outnumbered whites since 1998. And many of those new voters lean Democratic. The number of registered Republicans has been in a freefall for years – even independents outnumber them. In a sign of what was to come, Hillary Clinton carried Orange County in the 2016 presidential election, the first Democrat to do so since the Depression era. A stronger tack leftward has now dramatically arrived. . .Clearly, President Donald Trump was a factor. He lost California by over 4 million votes in 2016 and has remained unpopular, and many voters saw an opportunity to send a message to Washington. Walters and Rohrabacher, for example, were closely tied to the president, while Democratic candidates campaigned openly against Trump’s agenda. But demographic changes have also helped Democrats, and in key congressional races they fielded a group of fresh faces, not career politicians. Steel, the GOP committeeman, noted that Democrats raised more money and did a better job registering voters and using social media. The state GOP has debated for years whether the party needs to turn to the political center, or right. As far back as 2007, Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger warned the party was “dying at the box office” and needed to claim issues usually associated with the Democratic agenda, including climate change and health care reform. The latest setbacks have set off a fresh round of Republican soul-searching. Travis Allen, a former GOP candidate for governor and ardent Trump supporter, said Thursday he was entering the race to be the state party leader. The party, he said, is at the “lowest point it’s been since the 1880s.”)

— The Republicans Broke Congress. Democrats Can Fix It. A roadmap for House Democrats between now and the 2020 election – NORMAN J. ORNSTEIN (DIERSEN: If Gingrich had not gutted GAO in 1990s, I might still be a GAO employee. Gingrich had to know that the Democrats who ran GAO in the 1990s would use his tremendous budget cuts to get rid of GAO’s employees like me who were Republican, and especially those like me who were White, male, older, and/or non-veteran. My critics/opponents hint/imply/argue/shout a) that Gingrich knew full-well that because of his tremendous budget cuts, GAO forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old and b) that Gingrich had no problem with that. They stress that Gingrich, Hastert, Republican U.S. Senators from Illinois, and Republican U.S. Representatives from Illinois have not come to my defense.)
https://newrepublic.com/article/152127/republicans-broke-congress-democrats-can-fix-it

(FROM THE ARTICLE: For many decades, Congress has provided orientations for its new members. These used to be bipartisan, including a wide range of experts who taught newcomers the rules of how Congress works. After Newt Gingrich’s speakership in the 1990s, they became more partisan and generally less effective. The Democrats will need a much more robust orientation for members, new and otherwise, who have never served in the majority—and the same for staff. There should also be training about how to conduct investigations—there’s going to be a lot to investigate—how to do oversight, how to ask questions of witnesses, and how to use the alphabet soup of resources available to Congress, from CBO to GAO to CRS.)
