He’s not only no longer doing that, Rauner’s not even registered to vote in Illinois anymore; he’s set to cast his ballot from Florida. It’s a sign of the lurch the Illinois GOP is in: The Congressional delegation is split 13 Democrats to five Republicans, both of the state’s U.S. Senators are Democrats, there are no GOP constitutional officers and Republicans are in super-minorities in both the Illinois House and Senate. It wasn’t always this way; in Gov. Jim Edgar’s day it was Republicans who held the reins in Illinois. But, in another indication of the state party’s identity crisis, Edgar is voting for Democrat Joe Biden instead of President Donald Trump. “Donald Trump just hasn’t grown in office. I hoped when he got elected that maybe he might grow in office,” Edgar said. “He has been more of a disappointment than I thought he would be four years ago, and I was definitely bummed out when he won four years ago. But I’m just – I think this country has suffered a lot that going to take a while to take care of.” While Trump is popular in much of downstate Illinois, Edgar said the President hurts Republican candidates who run statewide, in the city of Chicago and in the suburbs. “If Trump would lose in November, then I think the Republican Party in Illinois statewide has a better chance of coming back,” Edgar said. “Republican candidates have to answer everything Trump says and does. … It hurts them in the suburbs and in the city.” Illinois Republican Party chairman Tim Schneider said on Monday that President Donald Trump can win the state. “Our side has the energy going this election. It actually, in a way, it expands our viewership, it expands how many people could actually be involved,” said George Pearson, Will County Republican chairman. Pearson is planning watch parties with supporters at the headquarters office in Crest Hill. Due to coronavirus concerns, only two Illinois delegates are actually going to Charlotte for the roll call vote on Monday where they will formally nominate the President. Testing, face coverings and social distancing will be required. Illinois Republican Party chairman Tim Schneider is one of delegates who will attend the convention. “The RNC sent out COVID tests to every member that’s attending the Charlotte convention. I had to test negative to go to Charlotte. I also have to do a self-test every day and go online and reflect all my symptoms every day,” Schneider said. Delegates also are not concerned with the polls, pointing to how wrong they were four years ago with Hillary Clinton and seeing a silent majority out there that will support the President. “Because there’s so much negativity that’s being put out by the media, that people aren’t going to, they’re not going to answer polls, neighbors aren’t going to talk to neighbors, they’re not going to tell who they’re going to be voting for, come this election,” said Lori Yokohama, a Republican delegate for Chicago’s 1st District. For the longtime member of Illinois’ GOP State Central Committee, it was to have been his last Republican National Convention after at least eight previous trips — a last chance to buy “shirts, hats, salt shakers, whistles, buttons, banners” and other memorabilia for his vast collection. “I’m obviously going to miss the chance to get the latest and greatest and be the only kid on your block that owns it,” the 74-year-old Claar said. But in the age of COVID-19 and a variety of fits and starts, the Republican National Convention that kicks off Monday will be held largely in a virtual digital setting just as the recently completed Democratic convention. Unlike the Democratic convention, where states’ delegates were told to stay home as former Vice President Joe Biden was nominated for president, Republicans are allowing 336 delegates to actually go to the host city, representing the 50 states, plus territories. The Post complained in two recent articles that The Gateway Pundit, The Epoch Times and One America News Network (OANN), three conservative sites that it says are “amplifying hoaxes,” were allowed into White House press briefings given by President Donald Trump. The Post won a Pulitzer Prize for amplifying the Trump-Russia hoax. Many have called on it to return the prize. The Post opined in its news pages that “The White House press corps just got a little more Trump-friendly, thanks to a bit of maneuvering by the White House itself.” The Jeff Bezos-owned “newspaper” says the conservative outlets are being unjustly given special treatment at Trump’s press briefings at which the preponderance of “journalists” present represent anti-Trump corporate media monopolies. Powe asked the president about Joe Biden attempting to take credit for the Trump administration’s brokering of the normalization of relations between Israel and the UAE. Powe “asked one of the only sensible questions during the entire presidential press conference,” Gateway Pundit founder Jim Hoft noted. In another article, the Post was irate that Trump fielded questions at his Aug. 13 press briefing from The Epoch Times and OANN. As for OANN, the cancel culture mavens at the Washington Post have complained many times about the network. The Post summed it up in a June headline about OANN: “When Fox News disappoints, Trump has a backup”. “The far left media STILL believes they are entitled to promote the news narrative in America today,” Hoft said. “These far left dinosaurs have failed to keep up with the times. According to DuPage County Circuit Court Clerk Chris Kachiroubas, Jorgensen — a surgeon — responded “in a New York second” to a man in distress Aug. 15 at a restaurant. Jorgensen and Kachiroubas were at an informal monthly political lunch when a man began to flail about and stand up. The coroner grabbed him, sat him down and performed the Heimlich maneuver several times, dislodging a piece of meat from the man’s throat. “The Doctor Richard Jorgensen may have cheated the Coroner Richard Jorgensen,” Kachiroubas said at a county board committee meeting Tuesday. “That was pretty crazy,” Jorgensen told us. He was in medical school about the time the Heimlich maneuver became well-known and learned it there. He has performed it several times since, he said. As a med student, he taught it to his parents — and shortly thereafter, his father used it to save his mother. “Everyone should know the Heimlich,” he said. Why put the guy in a chair? Biden has just raised the stakes of the 2020 election and relinquished his claim to being a “safe pick.” Not in our lifetimes has a nominee’s running mate been so consequential. His choice matters, not only because he is very old and clearly in decline but also because he is running to be a placeholder president. Biden was nominated not for his virtues but for his lack of the politically deadly vices that beset his opponents in this year’s primary. It is shocking that he would pick such a divisive No. 2, whose unpopularity outside the core Democratic base is abundantly evident. Harris collapsed in the presidential polls almost the moment she stepped into the spotlight. Despite being amply funded, she went from tied for second place at 15% in mid-July 2019 to low single digits by September. Harris’ favorability is underwater among independents, with 33% unfavorable to 25% favorable, and during her presidential run, she was never above water. Harris is not the pick Biden would make if he were trying to maximize his chances of winning the election. This is baffling if you believe, as the cable networks and graying old editorial pages have screamed, that getting rid of President Donald Trump is of utmost importance for the survival of the republic. No, you pick Harris if you are beholden to your party’s woke culture warriors. The left has largely won the culture war, securing gay marriage, saving Roe v. Wade, and normalizing transgender ideology. Now, they want to punish dissenters. This is Harris’ area of expertise. You can call it “cancel culture,” but that term is too benign. She is not a mere demagogue. She is a demagogue who will use the power of the government to punish “the other side.” She is a dead-on prosecutor, ”her mentor Willie Brown wrote,” and when she goes into that mode, watch out. She is out for blood.” As California attorney general, Harris prosecuted and persecuted pro-life undercover filmmaker David Daleiden for his work exposing Planned Parenthood’s trade in fetal remains. She seized his recordings while pursuing the abortion lobby’s endorsement for Senate. She was also the first prosecutor to use California’s eavesdropping laws against a journalist, all after secret consultations with the abortion provider. The government should treat pro-lifers like segregationists, Harris has argued publicly. A clear majority of the public, about 70%, believe there should be restrictions on abortion, but Harris wants to treat states that pass restrictions as if they are acting outside the bounds of democratic legitimacy. She’s called the Knights of Columbus “extremist.” She will attack “the bad guys” on the flimsiest grounds. Recall her bizarre line of questioning about the “Kasowitz law firm” during Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings. When Kavanaugh looked confused by the questions, Kamala’s cheerleaders in the media credited her with a beautiful “prosecutorial beatdown.” It turns out there was nothing there but innuendo — empty badgering to make a political opponent look bad is just what an abusive prosecutor does in front of a jury. It’s her style. Harris’ presidential campaign was focused on dividing the country. Gun owners, pro-lifers, home-schoolers, and traditional religions will have reason to fear persecution in an administration where Harris has sway. We know she will have sway because the culture-war wing calls the tune in Biden’s Democratic Party. Biden will probably continue to talk about reuniting a country divided by Trump’s presidency. But as of today, nobody should believe it.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Qualifications requirements are one of the biggest sources of racism in hiring and promotion. They are described as being the core of merit-based hiring, but are they really? If an agency decides it wants to hire only people with Bachelor’s degrees, but the job does not require a degree and the agency has no proof that a degree leads to higher performance, the agency is discriminating against people who lack a particular credential that is not needed for the job. When we look at this chart of census data on education and race, it becomes apparent that a degree requirement that is not valid is likely to make more white and Asian people eligible for the job, and fewer Black and Hispanic people eligible. Was the intent to be racist? Probably not, but the intent does not erase the racially biased outcome of the decision. There are other education-related practices that can result in racial disparities. For example, I have worked with many senior executives who like to recruit at particular schools (often their alma mater). Depending on the racial makeup of the school, the result can be racial disparity. Again, those are generally not cases where the person making the recruiting decision intends to discriminate based on race, but that is still the outcome.
