SOUTHEAST ILLINOIS NEWS
— Ballot hijinks lead Southern Illinois Republicans to challenge party leadership vote – W.J. Kennedy
https://seillinoisnews.com/stories/511395529-ballot-hijinks-lead-southern-illinois-republicans-to-challenge-party-leadership-vote
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Governor Rauner and his hand-picked state GOP Chairman Timothy Schneider are declaring victory in Southern Illinois. But did they actually win? State party officials claim Southern Illinois Republicans voted for a new state central committeeman yesterday, replacing longtime incumbent, former legislator Bob Winchester of Rosiclare with State Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet). Rose supports Schneider for another four year term; Winchester does not. But county chairmen say an examination of the vote count shows Rose didn’t win and that the fix was in. They’re promising to challenge what they say are manipulated results. “Rauner’s people showed their true colors yesterday,” a source told SE Illinois News. “They’re glad to cheat to win.” “This has made us even more bitter” In the balance is one of 18 spots on the State Republican Party Central Committee, which governs the party and exerts influence up and down the ballot. On Wednesday, GOP precinct committeemen voted to elect their county chairmen and the state central committee members, who will convene in May to choose a party chairman. Schneider recruited Rose to challenge Winchester, a Rauner critic representing Southern IIlinois’ 15 Congressional District, which includes 33 counties. Winchester supported State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) in the March primary. “Many of us were already bitter and this has made us even more bitter,” Rhonda Belford, Hardin County GOP Chair, told SE Illinois News. “Bob Winchester stood tall for southern Illinois and all of Illinois, and this is how they treat him.” Belford said that some of her fellow county chairmen were offered financial rewards by Schneider. Others were threatened with retribution if they didn’t support Rose over Winchester. “They know not what they do,” she said. “This is all about money, but it’s the wrong kind of money, and in the end it’s probably not going to win them the race anyway.” Winner takes all? Mark Shaw, State Central Committeeman from Lake County’s 10th congressional district, said that he is concerned that some counties may have voted by acclamation, a procedural move that would have given Rose 100 percent of the vote when he may have received just over 50 percent. Shaw, who grew up in Mt. Carmel in Wabash County, said that voting by acclamation could be a violation of state law and some legal action may be in order. Results do show that Winchester received zero votes in nine of 33 counties, including four of the ten most populated, a result that Shaw and others said would be an impossibility. Several counties, sources tell SE Illinois News, didn’t even offer Winchester as a candidate for consideration. In Fayette County, home to Rauner Downstate Director Randy Pollard, Winchester was not presented as an option, sources say. “Pollard asked for a voice vote by acclamation for Chapin (Rose) and just moved on,” a source said. “He didn’t even mention Winchester was a candidate, much less the incumbent.” Rose also received zero votes in 13 counties carried 100 percent by Winchester. In all, 22 of 33 counties voted by acclamation, representing 63 percent of Rose’s vote and 59 percent of Winchester’s. County votes are weighted based on their respective turn-out in the March primary. “There are a lot of irregularities here,” Shaw said. “We want to see the raw data on a precinct level presented to the party.” The Shimkus Machine Aides to U.S. Rep. John Shimkus (R-Collinsville) actively recruited Rose to challenge Winchester, offering to help him replace Shimkus in Congress when the opportunity presents itself, sources say. Sources in Madison County, Shimkus’ home which carries the second-largest weighted vote in the district, say that when they, too, voted by acclamation for Winchester, a lawyer volunteer for Shimkus present protested and said acclamation votes were not legal. Shimkus’ District Director, Deb Detmers Fansler, then threatened Madison County precinct committee members by phone. Madison County submitted each candidate’s vote totals to the state GOP, sources say, along with the caveat that they voted by acclamation to deliver all of them to Winchester, who won 59 percent of the actual vote. State GOP officials didn’t include Madison County’s acclamation vote in their official totals; it would have meant Winchester won re-election by 644 votes. Chicago GOP Chairman Chris Cleveland said he would push to see the actual vote data as well. “This was a very contentious election, and it’s important that we have full transparency in the results,” Cleveland said. “That means complete, precinct-level reporting that we can verify.”)

https://chicago.suntimes.com/cannabis/pols-high-on-marijuana-legalization-hope-to-clear-the-air-on-4-20-pot-holiday/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: On Thursday, Healthy & Productive Illinois, a “marijuana policy group” that has argued against legalization, released its own study. The group argues it would cost the state $670.5 million a year to legalize pot, outweighing annual estimated tax revenue projections of about $566 million. They’re not the only ones not joining the party. Gov. Bruce Rauner told a Downstate TV station in December that it would be a “mistake” to legalize marijuana in Illinois. The Republican governor has, in the past, said he wants more studies on the “ramifications” in states that have legalized the drug. “I do not support legalizing marijuana. I think that’s a mistake. You know there’s a massive, human experiment going on in Colorado, and California, other places. We should see how that’s impacted lives and addiction and hurt young people before we make any decision about it here,” Rauner said in an interview on WSIL in Marion. “I do not support legalizing marijuana.” Still, Rauner instituted a medical marijuana pilot program that started doling out weed to patients in 2015. And Rauner last year signed a bill that decriminalized the possession of 10 grams or less of marijuana, making it a ticketable offense subject to fines of $100 to $200.)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-met-loizon-evans-lawsuit-20180418-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A white supervisor in the Cook County Adult Probation Department has filed a federal lawsuit claiming he was wrongly dismissed last year, while numerous black employees in the department have received little or no discipline for alleged misconduct. Philippe Loizon, a former deputy chief who made about $115,000 a year, on Tuesday sued Chief Judge Timothy Evans, alleging that Evans, the county’s first African-American chief judge, had discriminated against him because of his race. Evans fired Loizon in May 2017 following a series of Tribune investigations into accusations that a rogue unit of officers under Loizon’s command had improperly teamed up with Chicago police and the FBI to conduct warrantless searches of homes, and coerced probationers to work as police informants. The county paid $110,000 to two Chicago men who alleged in federal civil rights lawsuits that probation officers, joined by the FBI and city police, conducted illegal searches of homes. And a series of gun cases fell apart following accusations of those questionable searches. Loizon, who was assigned to desk duty for two years before he was dismissed, said the Tribune’s accusations were false and were “based primarily on information provided to the reporters by convicted felons.” He said he had a “clean personnel record” and received outstanding job reviews during his 29 years with the probation department. He alleged Evans treated him differently because he is white. “Evans imposed discipline against Loizon in a manner and at a level he had never imposed on an African-American employee of the (department), despite conduct of an egregious nature by some of the African-American employees,” according to the suit. Evans’ spokesman, Pat Milhizer, declined to comment, citing a state Supreme Court rule that he said forbids judges and court personnel from commenting on pending court matters. One of Loizon’s lawyers, Gregory Friedman, declined to comment Wednesday, referring the Tribune to a statement he issued last June. In that statement, Friedman said Loizon was an exemplary employee who was wrongly fired, and that the Tribune had “done a great disservice to a good man. “Throughout his employment, Mr. Loizon performed his duties in an outstanding manner and in conformity with Departmental polices,” Friedman wrote then. “Philippe Loizon was a diligent and dedicated probation officer and Deputy Chief.” In his suit, Loizon identified 12 current and former probation officers, all of whom are black, who allegedly committed misconduct or violated department policy, yet received little or no punishment at all. The suit cited a probation officer who frequently worked to turn probationers into police informants; an officer who falsely claimed to meet with probationers who actually turned out to be in jail or dead; and an officer who shot and wounded a 14-year-old boy. Loizon said that none of those employees were disciplined. Loizon is seeking reinstatement as deputy chief, back pay with interest, compensatory and punitive damages, and his lawyers’ fees and expenses.)

NPR ILLINOIS
— Gubernatorial Candidates Have Fence-Mending Ahead – DAISY CONTRERAS (DIERSEN: What does Rauner say to his advisors who tell him that the harder that he works against the Illinois Republican Party platform, the more votes that he will get from Democrats and from Independents?)
http://nprillinois.org/post/gubernatorial-candidates-have-fence-mending-ahead#stream/0
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Last month, the state’s voters decided on the Republican and Democratic nominees for governor. But the primaries behind them, the winners still have to convince those who wanted someone else at the top of the ticket. Incumbent Gov. Bruce Rauner probably thought he didn’t need to worry about his only Republican opponent, state Rep. Jeanne Ives, during the primary campaign. In the past, he’d called her a “fringe candidate” and decided to forgo campaigning against her until just a few weeks before election day. When the votes were tallied election night, Rauner had snuck past Ives by just 3 percentage points. It was closer than most expected, and the governor acknowledged that in his victory speech by saying he had heard the message those dissatisfied voters were sending him. “I have traveled the state and I have listened to you,” he said in his election night speech. . .Rauner, on the other hand, must try to get more than the 50 percent of Republicans who voted to renew their trust in him and get them out to the polls in November. Chris Mooney, a political science professor at the University of Illinois Chicago, said the governor has the more difficult task of restoring trust with a large segment of his party’s base. “And so the question is can Rauner look to them – he doesn’t have to worry about them voting for Pritzker, I think that’s pretty clear. What he has to do is get them to come out to vote in November.” . . . Rauner has done his best to separate himself from President Trump, but there are similarities in their backgrounds. Both tout success in business and very wealthy. Rauner’s wealth has been a key rallying point for Democrats, who view him as out of touch with the working class and spotlight his attacks on organized labor to make their point. . .Rauner has been traveling the state campaigning, it appears he has yet to bring Ives’ backers into the fold. This may not be an easy feat to accomplish – even for the wealthy governor. Ives was heavily outspent, but she was able to easily tap into the dissatisfaction among conservatives who felt Rauner had broken his promise on key legislation, including a measure to allow public funding for abortions. Despite a push from conservative groups – and even Chicago Cardinal Blaise Cupich – to hold the governor to his word, Rauner signed the legislation into law. Ives herself makes that point, saying many of her supporters feel betrayed. “There are supporter voters of mine, they are saying we are not going to vote for him regardless of what he says.” While the circumstances might be different, the insurgent campaign Ives ran harkens to Donald Trump defeating establishment Republicans on his way to the White House. Those who felt left out, or maybe taken for granted, went for Trump and sent a message. In Illinois, Rauner doesn’t deny there is still work for him to do. Soon after election night, Rauner hit the campaign trail to acknowledge there were some divisive issues. “And I know now, as I’ve known for a while that we need to find common ground to bridge the divides.” As for Ives, she has said she will vote for Rauner but made it clear she has no plans to campaign for him. While both Pritzker and Rauner will spend the next several months telling all voters why they should be elected, they’ll also be busy mending fences – in their own political backyards.)

— You Won’t Believe What Tax Reform Will Cost Wealthy Californians In 2019 – ED MORRISSEY (DIERSEN: Roskam should increase the $10,000 SALT cap to $20,000 for married filing jointly.)
https://hotair.com/archives/2018/04/18/wont-believe-tax-reform-will-cost-wealthy-californians-2019/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: President Donald Trump’s tax cuts will be anything but for about 1 million California taxpayers who will owe Uncle Sam more money a year from now. They’re the Californians who will lose a collective $12 billion because the new law caps a deduction they have been able to take for paying their state and local taxes, according to a new analysis by the Franchise Tax Board. Very wealthy Californians earning more than $1 million a year will pay the lion’s share of that money, with 43,000 of them paying a combined $9 billion. It’s not all coming from the wealthy. Another $1.1 billion will come from households earning less than $250,000, hiking their tax liability $4400 on average. That’s not peanuts, but it’s a far cry from the average $209,302 per family that will be owed by those households earning more than a million dollars a year. Put this another way. That represents the federal tax liabilities that everyone else in the country subsidized through SALT. The “progressive” income tax used taxes paid by people in low-tax states to repay the wealthy for their taxes in places like California. The SALT deduction really only comes into play for people who can itemize enough to outstrip the standard deductions, so its benefit plays mostly to the wealthy anyway. It also plays mostly to the benefit of a very few states. California and New York taxpayers soak up almost third of all benefits from SALT deductions; add in New Jersey, Illinois, Texas, and Pennsylvania, and they account for more than half of its benefits.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Ford also took the opportunity to announce that the Mustang is the world’s bestselling sports car for its third year in a row. Ford sold 125,809 Mustangs in 146 countries in 2017, with sales of 81,866 in the U.S., and 7,125 in China. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Every two years, potential candidates line up to make their pitches to party leaders. The ones who win endorsement are asked to contribute $40,000 to the party, which uses the money on election mailings, robocalls and get-out-the-vote efforts. And when the primaries are done, the party works to elect the nominees in the general election. The names of endorsed candidates are placed on palm cards — lists of party-endorsed candidates handed out by precinct committeemen. But what was once a monolithic effort is no longer. https://chicago.suntimes.com/chicago-politics/machine-shifting-gears-toni-preckwinkle-poised-to-make-history/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “Given this moment of heightened racial awareness … having a black woman as head of the political party in Cook County says that at least there is an overt acknowledgement that African Americans and women are good leaders,” said Jacky Grimshaw, a former aide to Mayor Harold Washington, the city’s first black mayor. “That’s not to say that the party has overcome its racial bias.” The party that Preckwinkle would lead looks different than the one Berrios took over in 2007. Berrios spokeswoman Monica Trevino said in a statement that under Berrios’ leadership, the number of minority Democratic candidates increased by 76 percent, and twice as many women have been slated for countywide office. “The leadership of the Cook County Democratic Party is mostly men, mostly white and mostly old school,” Carol Marin wrote in a 2007 Sun-Times column prior to Berrios’ election as chairman. Berrios took over shortly before Barack Obama won his election as the first African American U.S. president. “There’s even more reason to breathe some life, some youth and some real diversity into the leadership of this sickly organization,” Marin wrote back then.)

Mr. Kirsanow said he assumes the segregated meetings were instituted in response to a recommendation in District 65’s May 2017 Equity Report that the District create “social identity affinity groups.” He said, “I am astonished that District 65 spent taxpayer money on a report that includes the recommendation, ‘separate teachers by race.’ Separating teachers by race fosters racial division and is prima facie unlawful. By its nature, it forces teachers to view themselves in terms of what divides them, rather than what they have in common. It also encourages a binary view of society that, depending on your perspective, is either, ‘whites against everyone else’ or ‘everyone else against whites.’ It may even foster a sense among both groups that they are threatened by the other. “However well-intentioned, this is segregation for the 21st century,” Mr. Kirsanow said. “Unless a legitimate, nondiscriminatory educational reason can be articulated, the segregation almost certainly would be found unlawful. Discussions of politically correct notions of ‘privilege,’ unsupported by methodological rigor, do not qualify as legitimate reasons, and they are by their own definition discriminatory.” The letter also suggested that the District’s hiring practices may run afoul of prohibitions against racial discrimination in hiring. He also raised a question about the Equity Report’s analysis of the achievement gap. While stating that the achievement gap is concerning, he says, “It’s interesting that the equity report assiduously avoids any examination of the home lives of the children as a possible partial explanation for the achievement gap. “The racially-conscious efforts you and District 65 have undertaken will foster racial division instead of racial understanding. Sending teachers to racially separate meetings is a stark picture of the future you are sowing. You are encouraging students and teachers to view each other as members of groups, not as individuals.”)

Were you considered to be college material? While I attended Crete-Monee High School 1962-1966, I took college preparatory courses notwithstanding the fact that many, if not most, if not virtually everyone at the time viewed me as NOT being “college material.” Neither of my parents had attended college. My father was the first of his ancestors to earn a high school diploma. My mother never attended high school. I spent my junior and senior years and the summer in between washing dishes for the minimum wage in the basement of the S.S. Kresges in Chicago Heights. I just barely made into the top 20% of my class, my ACT score was only 24, I was draft bait, my eyesight could not be corrected to 20/20, I had partial red/green color blindness, and I had Osgood-Schlatter disease (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osgood%E2%80%93Schlatter_disease). The prizes go to “the most competitive applicants in the pool,” admissions materials say, and include awards of $5,000 to $30,000 for each student. At some other colleges, a solid majority of students get similarly hefty scholarships. At still others, virtually everyone gets them. Hundreds of colleges and universities are using academic scholarships and other merit-based financial aid to gain an edge in a battle for students. The scholarships make students feel wanted and let families think they’re getting a good deal, like a shopper who buys an expensive sweater on sale.)

https://northcooknews.com/stories/511393548-politics-has-paid-for-illinois-gop-chairman-schneider
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In 1997, he traded up to become Hanover Township highway commissioner, lording over 13 miles of roadway in one of the smallest road districts in the state. Voters officially abolished the district, and Schneider’s former post, in a referendum last year. Schneider first sought a seat on the Cook County board in 2002, challenging then-76-year-old Carl Hansen, a conservative who had served on the board for 28 years. He lost, but tried again in 2006 and narrowly won, with 3,481 votes to Hansen’s 3,429. Rauner tapped Schneider to run the Illinois GOP in 2014. . .Schneider recently came under fire for revelations that a car wash he owns in Elgin owes $21,448 in back taxes. In addition, Schneider has faced withering criticism for standing by Rauner, whose decision to back taxpayer-funded abortions and make Illinois a sanctuary state resulted in a fracture in the Illinois conservative block and a very narrow win in a primary challenge from state Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton). Schneider appears to be facing an uphill battle in his pursuit to remain as the head of the Illinois Republican party.)

The resulting budget deficit of $6,856 per household will bring the total national debt to nearly $170,000 per household. Federal spending has soared more than $5,000 per household since 2007 and is projected to rise another $9,000 over the next decade (all numbers in this article are adjusted for inflation). Unless spending is reined in, similar tax increases must eventually result. Washington will spend this year’s $33,054 per household as follows: . . . Federal employee retirement benefits: $1,098. A portion of this cost is offset by federal employee payroll contributions)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-bruce-rauner-jb-pritzker-cash-20180417-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner spent over four times more than state Rep. Jeanne Ives in the months before his narrow primary victory on March 20. The first-term governor spent about $17.7 million in the first quarter, according to campaign records filed late Monday. That’s compared with about $4.3 million spent by Ives, who lost by just three percentage points. And Democrat J.B. Pritzker spent nearly double what Rauner did, reporting $34 million in expenses this year, far more than state Sen. Daniel Biss’ $5.8 million and Kenilworth businessman Chris Kennedy’s $3.9 million. Rauner starts the fall campaign with about $38.5 million in his campaign fund for what some observers predict could be the most expensive governor campaign in history. Pritzker showed about $8.1 million in the bank at the start of the month. He’s given his campaign $7 million since the primary ended, bringing his self-funding total to $76.5 million.)

https://www.illinoispolicy.org/more-than-100-township-governments-file-in-opposition-to-township-consolidation-bill/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: One common critique of consolidation measures by government officials is that services would be diminished. But HB 3133 provides that the responsibilities and obligations of a dissolved township be transferred to its receiving county, suggesting that residents could expect continued delivery of public services at a reduced cost. This concept is not without precedent: DuPage County has eliminated multiple units of local government, while consolidating the services of others, since the passage of a 2013 consolidation law that only applied to DuPage County. In a 2015 report, Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti held up the DuPage example as a model for fiscal reform for other counties. Sure enough, lawmakers representing Lake and McHenry counties successfully pushed through the General Assembly a similar consolidation bill that extended much of DuPage County’s consolidation powers to both counties.)

Because they make tax laws for all of us, all U.S. Representatives and U.S. Senators should be required to prepare their own tax returns, and they if fail/refuse to do that, they should be barred from having anything to do with tax laws. I have prepared my own tax returns since I was 16 years old in 1965. I have filed itemized returns since I was 24 year old in 1973. I worked for IRS 1971-1980, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880. I worked for GAO on audits of IRS 1986-1988 at the GS-13 Step 1-3 levels, currently $96,403-$102,830. I passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979. I earned master’s degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980. I paid less federal income tax 1972-1977 because I itemized and my wife and I have paid less federal income tax since 1978 because we have itemized. However, because of the marriage penalty, my wife and I have paid more federal income tax since 1978. It seems that those who are not married and those whose spouse has little or no income want to keep the marriage penalty or even increase it. It seems that those who pay little or no real estate tax and/or state income tax want those deductions to be capped. April 16 Morning Edition

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform. QUESTION: What should Illinois Republican Party (IRP) State Central Committee (SCC) candidates promise to do, and do, if they are elected? ANSWER: Defend and advance the IRP platform. Be loyal to the platform and NOT to whoever gives them, or the IRP, the most money. Notify in a timely manner all the party leaders and elected Precinct Committeemen in their congressional district of the date, time, and location of IRP SCC meetings. Seek input for agenda items from the aforesaid before each IRP SCC meeting. Provide the aforesaid with IRP SCC meeting agendas as soon as they are finalized. Attend all IRP SCC meetings and actively represent the Republicans in their district. Provide the party leaders and elected Precinct Committeemen in their district with a summary of major actions taken at IRP SCC meetings within a week after the meetings. Appoint a member to the 2020 IRP State Convention Platform and Resolutions Committee who is a Republican, and NOT a RINO, a Democrat plant, a Libertarian plant, or a Green plant. Appoint a Deputy IRP SCC Member who can and will help you do the aforesaid. Further, IRP SCC candidates should be extremely financially secure because RINOs, Democrat plants, Libertarian plants, and Green plants are moral relativists who believe that their end justifies their means, because they are disciples of Saul Alinsky, and because they have destroyed and will destroy those who defend and advance the traditional family, right to life, immigration, Second Amendment, and other planks in the IRP platform. – Dave Diersen

PRAIRIE STATE WIRE
— Rauner attempts conservative “purge” of Illinois GOP leadership (DIERSEN: Incumbents who go against their party’s platform want a primary challenge. It certainly looks like Rauner went against the traditional family, right to life, and immigration planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform to get a conservative to challenge him in the primary. It certainly looks like Rauner’s reelection strategy was to use his crushing that conservative to run as an anti-conservative to get votes from Democrats like most Republican candidates in Illinois do. Obviously, Rauner erroneously assumed that he would crush Ives.)
https://prairiestatewire.com/stories/511392525-rauner-attempts-conservative-purge-of-illinois-gop-leadership
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner is publicly preaching party unity on the campaign trail. But behind the scenes, Rauner is quietly leading an effort to purge conservatives from the Illinois Republican State Central Committee, which governs the party. At issue: the re-election of current Illinois GOP Chairman Timothy O. Schneider of Bartlett, a close ally of Rauner and a sharp critic of State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) in the recent gubernatorial primary. “He’s in trouble,” a source close to the situation told Prairie State Wire. Lake County GOP Chairman Mark Shaw is mounting a strong challenge to Schneider, sources say. Republican precinct committeemen gather at their county conventions this Wed. to nominate and elect eighteen State Central Committee members, or one from each Illinois congressional district. State Central Committee members will meet in May to select the state party chairman. Rauner and his allies have targeted three members for defeat– John McGlasson of Pontiac (16th Congressional District/U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger), Robert Winchester, Sr. of Rosiclare (15th Congressional District/U.S. Rep. John Shimkus) and Fred Floreth of Springfield (13th Congressional District/U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis). DeWitt County GOP Chairman Dustin Peterson dropped his challenge to Floreth on Friday, after reports that he had once been arrested for a DUI. Challenging McGlasson is State Rep. Thomas Demmer (R-Dixon) and Winchester, State Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet). . .Sources say Rauner allies have offered to have Rose will withdraw his candidacy and put a designee of Winchester, a retired state employee who spent ten years in the Illinois House (1974-84) and joined the State Central Committee in 2002, on the Illinois GOP payroll. Illinois House GOP Leader Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) and Illinois Senate Minority Leader Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) are backing Rose’s bid and criticizing Winchester for being disloyal to the governor, sources say. Winchester campaigned at the Bond County Lincoln Day Dinner Saturday night, but Rose did not appear. Detmers Fansler, a former aide to then-Illinois Secretary of State George Ryan, was ousted from the State Central Committee in 2014 after backing then-chairman Pat Brady, a Rauner ally who sought to change the party platform to support gay marriage.)

CAPITOL FAX
— APRIL 5, 2018 FLASHBACK: Circular firing squad battle moves to state central committee races
https://capitolfax.com/2018/04/05/circular-firing-squad-battle-moves-to-state-central-committee-races/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Every four years, Republican Party conventions of precinct committeemen are held in every Illinois county for the purpose of electing state central committee members in each of the state’s congressional districts. The filing deadline was March 26th. Dave Diersen posted a list of contested races. I’ve added incumbent (i) designations… . . . That’s a lot of challenges. I asked Dan Proft if he was behind any of these candidates in an attempt to take over the party. Chris Cleveland was a big Jeanne Ives supporter, for example, as was David Smith, Patrick Harlan and others on that list. Proft’s texted response… Think you’ve got it reversed. It reads to me as if Rauner and his big government apparatchiks are working to continue their purge of conservatives from the party per their backing candidates against McGlasson, Floreth and Winchester. Message to Ives and her supporters: leave the party. I checked in with the ILGOP, former statewide candidate Bob Grogan and the Ives campaign, but haven’t yet heard back. . .KOL: What is going on in the 6th? All three are Rauner allies, so I thought)

BAKERSFIELD
— APRIL 16, 2018 FLASHBACK: Four big risks from Bolton’s purge of National Security Council – Hal Brands (DIERSEN: I should write a book about conservatives in Illinois, in DuPage County, in Milton Township, in Glen Ellyn, and in Wheaton who have been purged by Republican Party leaders a) because they are “too conservative,” that is, because they support too many planks in the Republican Party platform, most commonly, its traditional family, right to life, immigration, Second Amendment, illegal drugs, and/or equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) planks and/or because they fail/refuse to promote dependency on government, dependency on charity, LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, abolition of the First and Second Amendments, booze, gambling, pot, and other vices, patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and even worse things.)

DAILY COMMERCIAL
— APRIL 14, 2018 FLASHBACK: GOP should follow FDR’s example, purge extremists – David J. Meltsner (DIERSEN: Who is a Republican extremist? According to Democrats and Democrat plants, Libertarians and Libertarian plants, Greens and Green plants, and RINOs in Illinois, in DuPage County, and in Milton Township, Republican extremists support all the planks in the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) and should be purged. I should write a book about past and present IRP, DuPage County Republican Central Committee, and Milton Township Republican Central Committee leaders who focus on purging those like me who support all the planks in the IRP platform, including its traditional family, right to life, immigration, and Second Amendment planks.)

NEW YORK MAGAZINE
— MARCH 16, 2018 FLASHBACK: The Attempted Purge of a Rare Pro-Choice Republican (Rauner) in Illinois – Ed Kilgore (DIERSEN: In Illinois, far too many “Republican” activists, candidates, elected officials, party leaders, major donors, political consultants, etc. fail/refuse to defend/advance the right to life plank in the party’s platform. Far too many of them focus on getting rid of those like me who support the right to life plank in the party’s platform.)

NEW CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT
— TRUMP POISED TO PURGE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT – TOM BOGGIONI (DIERSEN: Democrats run the federal government. While I worked for the federal government for almost 30 years, my Democrat superiors constantly purged their employees who were Republican, and especially those like me who were White, male, and/or non-veteran who they had not promoted to GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40. ABC NEWS
— Comey opens up about the shocking way he found out he was fired by Trump – MEGHAN KENEALLY (DIERSEN: Right up to the end of August of 1997, my Democrat GAO superiors unethically led me to believe that they were going to let me work until I would first be eligible for regular retirement when I turned 55 on September 29, 2003. In February of 1971, my Firestone Stores boss fired me immediate after I told him that I had accepted a job offer from Oldsmobile. Then, Oldsmobile withdrew that job offer saying that it had just agreed to stop hiring Whites to settle an EEOC complaint. That directly resulted in my accepting a job offer from IRS. Right up to the end of August of 1969, my Democrat Post Office superiors unethically led me to believe that they were going to let me continue working part-time while took classes at NIU. All of a sudden, they declared that my being available to work all Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, holidays, and all days that NIU was not in session was not good enough.)

— A $76,000 Monthly Pension: Why States and Cities Are Short on Cash Governments are struggling as mounting pension obligations crowd out the rest of their budgets. Overwhelmingly, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes are either not getting a pension or are not earning credits toward a pension. — So-called ‘migrant caravan’ of asylum-seekers departs Mexico City for U.S. – Danny Clemens (DIERSEN: How soon will Mexico officially declare war on America? http://abc7chicago.com/politics/smaller-migrant-caravan-departs-mexico-city-for-us/3342706/
— Public officials facing less scrutiny by journalists – BGA (DIERSEN: Similarly, those who run the federal government face less scrutiny because Republican U.S. Senators and Republican U.S. Representatives  a) successfully led the effort to gut GAO during the 1980s and 1990s and b) continue to keep GAO a shell of what it once was.)
http://abc7chicago.com/politics/weekend-watch-public-officials-facing-less-scrutiny-by-journalists/3338139/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: There is a lack of transparency, efficiency, service or accountability. The job of journalists and watchdogs is to hold government officials and politicians accountable. But with fewer and fewer professional reporters on the case, as print and broadcast media keep shedding staff to cut costs, such as the Chicago Tribune cutbacks last month, public officials face less scrutiny. The BGA believes that the Riverdale library’s transgressions should be investigated by the Illinois attorney general. However, there aren’t enough watchdogs left to shine a light on every Riverdale and hold all their officials accountable, and that should alarm every taxpayer in Illinois. https://www.theblaze.com/news/2018/04/14/lgbt-courses-will-be-added-to-illinois-public-schools-curriculum-if-lawmakers-approve-pending-bill
(FROM THE ARTICLE: What have opponents said? But this is different, opponents said, because it goes against the religious beliefs of other students. Adding LGBT beliefs to public school curriculums would force some students to hear about personal values counter to what they believe, said Ralph Rivera, a lobbyist with the conservative Illinois Family Institute. “Where’s the protection for students and parents who have a religious belief?” Rivera told the Chicago Tribune. “Which has always been the case, this is not a new, avant-garde thing that they find this behavior to be against their religious beliefs and their churches’ or synagogues’ beliefs. No one seems to be mindful of that. They don’t care.” The Illinois Association of School Boards is also leery of the proposal. The board typically opposes most state requirements for schools because they believe districts, not lawmakers, should make such decisions, the Chicago Tribune reported. . .Illinois has a history of supporting LGBT issues. For example: The state approved same-sex marriage before the U.S. Supreme Court allowed it nationwide. Last year, lawmakers approved a measure to allow transgenders in the state to change the sex listed on their birth certificates. A new law plans the “gay panic defense,” which allowed criminals charged with first degree murder to maintain they “acted out of passion after learning their victim was gay or transgender.”)

The tax court allowed all of my graduate business courses, but disallowed all of my graduate accounting courses by creating a new rule that accounting courses are not deductible until you have taken enough of them to qualify to take the CPA examination.)

SPRINGFIELD STATE JOURNAL REGISTER
— Openly carried guns not allowed at Illinois Capitol gun rights rally – AP
http://www.sj-r.com/news/20180412/openly-carried-guns-not-allowed-at-illinois-capitol-gun-rights-rally
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “Illinois is not an open-carry state,” said Beth Kaufman, a spokeswoman for the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office, which oversees the Capitol Complex. ”… They’ve been advised to not bring firearms to the event.” A group called the National Constitutional Coalition of Patriotic Americans is spreading word of the gun-rights gatherings on social media. Organizers have permits for rallies Saturday outside 45 statehouses, including Illinois, said David Clayton of West Virginia, one of the coalition’s founders. The group’s event at the Illinois Capitol is set for 1-5 p.m. Saturday near the Abraham Lincoln statue at Second Street and Capitol Avenue. The rallies come less than three weeks after hundreds of thousands marched in Washington, New York and other U.S. cities to demand tougher gun laws after the February school shooting that killed 17 in Parkland, Florida. It’s unclear how many will show up — turnout predictions of national organizers are vastly higher than those of local planners. As of Thursday afternoon, 86 people had indicated on Facebook that they planned to attend the Springfield event. Clayton said a new gun law in Florida and similar measures being considered in other states threaten the rights of law-abiding gun owners. He said those attending rallies are encouraged to carry rifles — unloaded, with no magazines inserted — in states where it’s legal. “This is a very peaceful approach to a show of force,” Clayton said. “What that means is we’re not going to go there looking for a fight. We’re saying, ‘Look at all the people gathered here. We have a voice, too.’”)

https://www.peoplesworld.org/article/sanders-rouses-progressive-candidates-with-call-to-fight-party-establishments/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Sen. Bernie Sanders, Ind-Vt., roused a crowd of hundreds of progressives running for political office—from county board to Congress—with a call to fight back against the political establishments of both parties. “When we have the least-qualified president in our history and right-wing extremists in governors chairs, our job is to stand up, to fight back, to bring our brothers and sisters and friends and neighbors into the political process by providing hope,” he declared. “It is to transform America.” Sanders keynoted the opening all-day session on April 12 of a 4-day D.C. conference and training for prospective candidates, organized by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee. Some 450 hopefuls, more than half of them women, 18 percent of them unionists, 40 percent people of color, and 20 percent LGBTQ, signed up. And the union count doesn’t include those, such as two female county board hopefuls from Will County, Ill., and a congressional candidate from Nevada, whose fathers and grandfathers were unionists, or a third Will County candidate whose doctoral thesis was on how German and Irish immigrants created Chicago’s unions. Most attendees are first-time hopefuls, motivated by either disgust at the GOP-run Congress and President Donald Trump, duplication of the right-wing agenda at the state and local levels, or local issues the hopefuls said veteran politicians don’t address, such as criminal justice reform, good roads, infrastructure, child care, and well-paying jobs.)

In retrospect, with benefit of hindsight, I am extremely proud that they failed to purge me for almost 3 years at the Post Office, almost 9 years at IRS, and almost 18 years at GAO.)

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— How much free time do you have, why do you have that free time, and what do you do with that free time? – Dave Diersen
https://gopillinois.com

What you do with your free time (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leisure) says more about you than anything that you can say about yourself.

I have lots of free time a) because my Democrat GAO superiors succeeded in forcing me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 years old, b) because my Democrat GAO superiors successfully did everything that they could to assure that I would never get a job that was appropriate for someone with my education, work experience, professional certifications, and professional license, c) because I was denied my 7th Amendment rights in Diersen v. GAO, d) because my Republican U.S. Senators, U.S. Representatives, their staffs, and others dumped me, e) because my wife and I gave up trying to have children, we did not adopt, and we did not become foster parents, f) because my wife and I have no debts and we saved for our retirement, g) because my Civil Service Retirement System pension is $51,864/year, my federal health, dental, and vision insurance subsidy is $18,000/year, and my Social Security is $2,064/year, h) because I have good health, i) because I am not a member of a church, I do not attend church services, and I do not give money to a church, j) because my wife and I have not gone on any vacations since the early 1990s, k) because my wife and I do not have any pets, and l) because I do not exercise.

I have more free time because my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes succeeded in ending my TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairmanship in 2012, ending my Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee membership in 2011, ending my Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) webmaster service in 2010 and 2004, ending my Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee membership in 2007, and ending my American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board membership in 2004. Some of my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes brag about their ending my aforesaid roles, but others deny it and hint/imply/argue/shout that I brought it all on myself.

I use thousands of my dollars each year and 10+ hours of my free time each and every day to put GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and send them out each and every morning and each and every evening. That is 70+ hours a week, 300+ hours a month, 3,650+ hours a year, and 36,500+ hours a decade. The emails are free of charge and contain no advertising. The emails promote religious principles, promote conservative principles, promote the Republican Party platform, promote the Illinois Republican Party platform, and promote the MTRCC resolution against video gambling.

Again, how much free time do you have, why do you have that free time, and what do you do with that free time? What you do with your free time says more about you than anything that you can say about yourself.

https://chicago.suntimes.com/opinion/firefighter-steep-tax-bill-gop-plan-2018/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As promised, my paycheck has gone up by about $175. But when I went to see my accountant this year to go over my taxes, I found out that instead of getting a $3,000 refund like usual, I’ll owe more than $1,500 in taxes next year beyond what was already withheld — all on the same income. I was so shocked I asked my accountant to check again. But he came back with the same math and that same unexpected number. That’s when I realized that the GOP’s plan is a classic bait-and-switch. And everyday Americans like my family are going to pay the price very soon. Thanks to a cap on deductions for state and local taxes (SALT) — deductions that benefit many middle and upper-middle class families — and other changes to deductions, many hardworking Americans will find themselves paying more in 2019. Instead of the refunds we’re accustomed to, we’ll be the ones writing checks. The GOP tax plan added nearly $1.5 trillion to the deficit, while slashing taxes for the very wealthy and big corporations. According to the Tax Policy Center, 83 percent of the tax bill’s cuts will go to the top 1 percent in our country. Ending SALT deductions is a way for the GOP to help raise revenue to cover the cost of those cuts — leaving working families like mine to foot the bill for tax giveaways to those who need them least. For me, that means I’ll have less money to take care of my family and my property. Last year, I reinvested my return to make important improvements to my house and the apartment I rent out. Some of these costs I can predict, but there’s always something that comes up whether it’s basic maintenance or serious roof repairs. And as a parent with one daughter in college and one about to start, every penny counts. A $4,500 change in my taxes is a lot of pennies. I’ve saved to make sure my children’s college education isn’t a heavy financial burden on them, but without my usual return, my financial plans may need to change.)

GAO, Peter Fitzgerald appointed both the district court judge, Amy J. St. Eve, and the attorney who represented GAO, Patrick Fitzgerald. All of the aforesaid made it very clear that they favored patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation. Eve granted Patrick Fitzgerald’s motion to deny me my 7th Amendment rights, that is, to deny me a jury trial. Of course, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes used that to hint/imply/argue/shout that Peter Fitzgerald, Eve, and Patrick Fitzgerald viewed me as being someone who was lazy, stupid, bad, and even worse things.)

If I had not been denied my 7th Amendment rights in Diersen v. GAO, I would have provided a jury with many examples in which GAO paid its employees who were minority and/or female not only more for the same work, but more for lesser work, including one example in which GAO paid one of my subordinates who was a minority, a female, and a veteran more than it paid me. She had less job-related work experience, less job-related education, no professional certifications, and no professional licenses. I had almost 18 years experience working for GAO, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently $96,403-$125,325; almost 9 years experience working for IRS, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880; three job-related master’s degrees; six job-related professional certifications, and a job-related professional license.)

CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS

Overwhelmingly, immigrants have made it clear that if/when they become citizens, they will help the Democrats get rid of Republicans, and especially Republicans who are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, draft avoiders, and those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.

— In Illinois, we need all the watchdogs we can get – ANDY SHAW (DIERSEN: GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails draw attention to the work that watchdogs do. I worked for a watchdog, that is, for GAO, for almost 18 years, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently $96,403-$125,325. Of course, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes dismiss, belittle, badmouth, demonize, denigrate, and condemn that. I should write a book about my nasty, troubled, failed, vicious critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes who have a) little or no government or political experience, b) little or no relevant education, and/or c) few or no relevant professional certifications or licenses.)
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20180406/ISSUE07/180409942/illinois-needs-government-oversight
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois has more separate units of government than any other state, and too many, like Riverdale’s library, have overseers who would rather hunker down in their bunkers than embrace tax-saving mergers. The job of journalists and watchdogs is to hold government officials and politicians accountable. But with fewer and fewer professional reporters on the case, as print and broadcast media keep shedding staff to cut costs—i.e., Tribune cutbacks—public officials face less and less scrutiny, emboldening them to misbehave with impunity, laws and taxpayers be damned. Riverdale is in a “news desert,” an out-of-the-way place that gets little or no attention from mainstream media unless a murder or riot attracts TV trucks. Wonky issues like a library controversy? Fuggedaboutit! The BGA’s not insulated from these forces. We have limited resources and tend to deploy them on investigations with broad scope and impact. It took Riverdale activists three tries over several months to get us to realize they, too, suffered from government abuse with implications far beyond their town. It’s good they persisted, and the Riverdale library’s transgressions should be investigated by the Illinois attorney general. But sadly, there aren’t enough watchdogs left to shine a light on every Riverdale and hold all their officials accountable, and that should alarm every taxpayer in Illinois.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republican candidates are getting ready for this year’s Illinois general election in November. Several candidates met with other party leaders at today’s Lincoln Day Dinner sponsored by the Henry County Republicans. Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner addressed many GOP supporters at the event. As he runs for re-election, he says he will continue to stand by education reform. . .On Saturday, newly-minted competitor, Democrat Sean Casten, benefited from the lengthy exposure in front of a captivated crowd. When Casten was introduced, he got a standing ovation. “It’s too bad that Peter Roskam is not here today,” Casten said at the forum. “Because I would defy anyone to stand in this room and not be inspired by all of these impassioned young people, their families, and their supporters.” Why wasn’t he there? “Unfortunately Representative Roskam had previous commitments, which we communicated to the student who extended the invitation on the day that he emailed our office,” Roskam spokeswoman Veronica Vera said in an emailed response. “Representative Roskam believes this is an important issue and our office is looking at alternatives to have students from the district meet with the Representative for a productive conversation on this issue.” Roskam’s office said he met with Glenbard North High School students after the Parkland shooting for about an hour.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Another weekend in the Illinois 6th congressional district, where U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.) is fighting to keep his seat, meant another packed town hall. This time, school violence was the issue at the forum organized by high school students. Inside of a Glen Ellyn church with a capacity to hold 600, it was standing room only, according to organizers. The large turnout isn’t new for this district. And like so many other town halls held in the 6th over the past year, one thing remained consistent: Roskam was a no-show. Since President Donald Trump’s 2016 election, the congressman has been dogged by activists to meet at a town hall-style setting to take questions.)

Facebook has the following information about me that my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes use against me: Trump supporter, Protestant (baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran), conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, old (born in 1948), non-poor, gun owner, draft avoider, 100% German American, my ancestors have been in America since 1844, BMI is 30, federal retiree, former union member, American nameplate car owner, childless, pet-less, I am demonized, denigrated, and condemned by lots of people who say that they are religious, conservative, and/or Republican, and even worse things.)

My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that instead of me, UIC, NIU, Loyola, DePaul, Roosevelt, and IIT should have admitted minorities, females, and veterans in 1966, 1969, 1972, 1976, 1980, and 1992 respectively.)

CNBC
— DIERSEN HEADLINE: Anti-Trumps say “As elections near, many older, educated, white voters shift away from Trump’s party.” To “shift away from Trump’s party” is to promote dependency on government, dependency on charity, LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, further erosion of the Second Amendment, booze, gambling, pot, and other vices, patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and even worse things.
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/04/09/as-elections-near-many-older-educated-white-voters-shift-away-from-trumps-party.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Nationwide, whites over the age of 60 with college degrees now favor Democrats over Republicans for Congress by a 2-point margin, according to Reuters/Ipsos opinion polling during the first three months of the year. During the same period in 2016, that same group favored Republicans for Congress by 10 percentage points. The 12-point swing is one of the largest shifts in support toward Democrats that the Reuters/Ipsos poll has measured over the past two years. If that trend continues, Republicans will struggle to keep control of the House of Representatives, and possibly the Senate, in the November elections, potentially dooming President Trump’s legislative agenda. The real core for the Republicans is white, older white, and if they’re losing ground there, they’re going to have a tsunami, said Larry Sabato, a University of Virginia political scientist who closely tracks political races. If that continues to November, they’re toast.)

— Forcing judges to meet quotas won’t reduce immigration court backlogs. It will undermine due process – Editorial (DIERSEN: Forcing my superiors in the federal government to meet Affirmative Action, Diversity, and Inclusion quotas, goals, and targets resulted in reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and a tremendous waste of experience that federal employees had who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)

DENVER POST
— As vultures circle, The Denver Post must be saved – Editorial (DIERSEN: GAO is only a shell of what it once was. By September 30, 1997, the Democrats who ran GAO had gotten rid of virtually all the agency’s employees who were Republican. I should write a book about “Republican” Presidents, U.S. Senators, U.S. Representatives, etc. a) who have no problem with that destruction and b) who promoted that destruction.)
https://www.denverpost.com/2018/04/06/as-vultures-circle-the-denver-post-must-be-saved/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: At The Denver Post on Monday, more than two dozen reporters, editors, photographers, videographers, page designers, digital producers and opinion staff will walk out the door. Our marching orders are to cut a full 30 by the start of July. These heartbreaking instructions raise the question: Does this cut, which follows so many in recent years that our ranks have shriveled from more than 250 to fewer than 100 today, represent the beginning of the end for the Voice of the Rocky Mountain Empire? The cuts, backed by our owner, the New York City hedge fund Alden Global Capital, also are a mystery, if you look at them from the point of view of those of us intent on running a serious news operation befitting the city that bears our name. Media experts locally and nationally question why our future looks so bleak, as many newspapers still enjoy double-digit profits and our management reported solid profits as recently as last year. We call for action. Consider this editorial and this Sunday’s Perspective offerings a plea to Alden — owner of Digital First Media, one of the largest newspaper chains in the country — to rethink its business strategy across all its newspaper holdings. Consider this also a signal to our community and civic leaders that they ought to demand better. Denver deserves a newspaper owner who supports its newsroom. If Alden isn’t willing to do good journalism here, it should sell The Post to owners who will. A flagship local newspaper like The Post plays a critically important role in its city and state: It provides a public record of the good and the bad, serves as a watchdog against public and private corruption, offers a free marketplace of ideas and stands as a lighthouse reflective and protective of — and accountable to — a community’s values and goals. A news organization like ours ought to be seen, especially by our owner, as a necessary public institution vital to the very maintenance of our grand democratic experiment.)
