(FROM THE ARTICLE: The event had a distinct pro-Democrat, anti-Donald Trump feel, something that did not sit well with the chairman of the Lake County Republican Party. Signage and posters around the room were pro-Democratic. An anti-Trump poster was seen near the speaker’s podium. Some who spoke during the event dramatically called for an end to the Trump era. County GOP Chairman Mark Shaw said he was “taken back” when he heard about the event via email blast. “Generally, I’m disappointed we weren’t extended (an invitation),” he said. ”Frankly, my assessment of Stevenson High School is that they have basically decided to support liberal causes, and they aren’t interested in hearing different viewpoints. “I’m extremely disappointed given the amount of money that taxpayers pay to support Stevenson High School,” he added. “I do worry about the future of education.” . . . On Saturday, there was no evidence of Republican activism at the event. “Republicans generally don’t try to cause a scene,” Shaw said. However, he added, “Republicans believe in free speech.”)

— FRONT PAGE TOP OF FOLD WITH BIG COLOR PICTURE: DIERSEN HEADLINE: Needless-to-say, the worst national origin to have is German. What if I had lied and successfully claimed Swedish ancestry? During the 1840s and 1850s, all my ancestors immigrated to northeast Illinois from what is now Germany. Of course, needless-to-say, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always used that against me as well as the fact that I was baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran and I lived in Crete 1948-1972. In my defense, I stress that my grandfather on my father’s side fought the Germans during WWI, that my uncles on my mother’s side fought the Germans during WWII, and that my father would have fought the Germans during WWII if he had not been 4-F. Further, according to http://dna.ancestry.com, my ancestry is 33% Europe West, 28% Scandinavia, 24% Great Britain, 11% Ireland, 2% Europe East, 1% Finland/Northwest Russia, and 1% Italy/Greece. (FROM THE ARTICLE: The presidential hopeful replied, “I respect your activism, but sometimes love is not expressed by interruption. Sometimes love is expressed in a different way.” Buttigieg then offered a common political tactic to encourage a protester to quiet down — he promised to meet afterward. The protester remained undeterred, shouting some more. That prompted a campaign donor to yell, “You’re not the only one in the room!” After the disruption went on for more than three minutes, Buttigieg finally relented, “You know what? Just go ahead. Let’s do this.” The protester, who identified himself as queer and nonbinary but did not give a name, brought up the South Bend police shooting death last summer of a black robbery suspect, Eric Logan, by a white police officer. The shooting, which the officer’s body camera and dashcam failed to record, remains under investigation. “Mayor Pete, as somebody who says you want to unify communities, as someone who says they want to follow the rules of the road, there are police officers in South Bend who kill people. What’s his name Logan …” the protester said, trying to recall the name of the shooting victim. “Not what’s his name,” a visibly perturbed Buttigieg said. “His name is Eric Logan.” “There’s so many, I can’t keep track anymore,” the protester shot back. “That’s false,” Buttigieg replied. Then, finally, came the question: “How can we trust you will show up for queer and trans people and people of color when there were eight community meetings in South Bend about a police officer who killed someone in your community and you did not go to them?” Buttigieg replied by noting he set up the series of community meetings with “rank-and-file officers to elected leaders to some of my harshest critics, and people who have been in my administration all along” to “empower the community” to help come up with solutions for better policing in South Bend.)

— DIERSEN HEADLINE: Needless-to-say, the worst national origin to have is German. Again, what if I had lied and successfully claimed Swedish ancestry?

DETROIT FREE PRESS
— Man who paid $3M for the first 2020 Corvette Stingray says he’ll never drive it – Jamie L. LaReau
https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/general-motors/2020/01/23/first-corvette-auction-rick-hendrick/4531737002/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Corvettes have been good to car dealer and racing legend Rick Hendrick. He had his first date with his wife in one nearly half a century ago. Then, in 1976, he sold that same Corvette to pay for his first car dealership in South Carolina. Today, he owns 94 dealerships, 15 of which are Chevrolet stores, from the Carolinas to California (none in Michigan). But the Corvette that Hendrick, 70, bought on Saturday is in a different league. It’s the one of his boyhood dreams. It is the first mid-engine 2020 Corvette Stingray. “I’ve been going to those auctions for 25 to 30 years and I’ve bought a lot of No.1s at auction for charity,” Hendrick told the Free Press this week. “But nothing like this car. This had bidders from all over the world. It was so much drama. When you have the CEO of General Motors on the stage, that’s a big deal.” Hendrick happens to own one of the largest private collections of Corvettes in the world, including several with VIN number 0001. He is a member of the Corvette Hall of Fame Class of 2015. So it’s fitting that the mid-engine Corvette with VIN number 0001 would wind up in Hendrick’s garage, even at an eye-popping $3 million. The money is donated to the Detroit Children’s Fund.)

GOVERNMENT EXECUTIVE
— Warren Pledges Major Overhaul of Federal Hiring and Ethics Laws The Democratic presidential contender pledges to use executive branch experience to rebuild the civil service. – ERIC KATZ (DIERSEN: GAO hired me in 1980 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, younger person, or veteran who would take the job. IRS hired me in 1971 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, or veteran who would take the job. The Post Office hired me in 1966 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, or veteran who would take the job.)
https://www.govexec.com/management/2020/01/warren-pledges-major-overhaul-federal-hiring-and-ethics-laws/162583/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Among her priorities, she said, would be ensuring agencies have full staffing. All but three Cabinet-level departments have shed jobs under Trump. “To implement the kind of big, structural changes I have proposed, we will need to address the substantial vacancies in career civil service positions left behind by the Trump administration,” Warren said, adding, “If our government doesn’t have good people, it can’t perform for the American people. The senator promised to empower the Office of Personnel Management to award direct hire authority more often, which allows agencies to skip the hoops they must normally jump through when recruiting. She would also direct agencies to use more expedited hiring for veterans and to bring back feds who had left government. Warren would task OPM with ensuring agencies use specific hiring authorities granted to them. The presidential candidate would also seek to increase diversity in the federal ranks by boosting recruiting at historically black colleges and universities, creating fellowships that target marginalized communities and creating pathways so more minority employees could climb to executive level positions. She noted the Senior Executive Service specifically has endured a significant number of departures since Trump took office, which drained “the agencies of long-held expertise and institutional knowledge.”)

FED WEEK
— GS Pay System May Hamper Reskilling Programs, MSPB Says (DIERSEN: GAO audits IRS. In 1980, when I was 31 years old, according to the Democrats who ran GAO, I was NOT qualified to transfer in from IRS as a GS-12 Step 5, currently $93,592/year. They insisted that I accept a downgrade to GS-9 Step 10, currently $76,274/year, a pay cut of $20,157/year (21%) in today’s dollars. They never would have done that if I had been a Democrat, minority, female, or veteran. I had passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979. I had almost completed the requirements for a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul. I had earned an MBA from Loyola in 1976. I had worked for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $85,084-$96,431/year. I had earned a bachelor’s degree in management from NIU in 1970. Much of what I did for IRS was very similar to what I would be doing for GAO including interviewing, gathering data, summarizing data, analyzing data, report writing, and making recommendations.)

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2020/jan/21/letters-to-the-editor-gao-finding-no-surprise/
(FROM THE LETTER: Recently, the Government Accountability Office, a component of Congress, found President Trump guilty of withholding funds from the Ukrainians (“Trump says GAO is part of ‘the Swamp’ after watchdog finds he broke law on Ukraine aid,” Web, Jan. 17). Let’s be clear: The GAO is a deep-state creature composed of bureaucrats who are left-wing sympathizers and anti-Trumpers. The malaise which infects the general federal bureaucracy that created the deep state likewise is at work in the purportedly bipartisan GAO. The American people have lost their power to influence the direction of the country by the election of the president. Instead, lifelong left-leaning bureaucrats serve as a resistance mechanism working against the will of the people, who seek to move the country in the direction of constitutional integrity and traditional ideals. The American people must deal with the problem of the deep state by forcefully asserting their will at the ballot box until the scourge of the deep state has been purged and democracy is restored to the nation.)

I earned a) a job-related bachelor’s degree when I was 21 in 1970 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) a job-related professional license when I was 32.)
https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/progressives-treat-the-unequal-as-equal/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In the 21st century in America and elsewhere, self-described progressives strove to display virtue and gain power through advocating a maximalist position on equality. Equality of opportunity, still imperfectly implemented, was jettisoned in favor of equality of result or outcome. Any inequality, from whatever source, was deemed by progressive to be evil and requiring correction. This has led to the attempt by progressives to treat inequalities among parties as illegitimate, and imposed equality as obligatory. As a result, many new proposed equalities were specious. Here are some examples. Progressives, including most Democrats and most candidates for the Democratic nomination for president, now claim equality and equivalence between criminal illegal aliens who have entered the country by stealth, and legal immigrants who have been admitted by government procedures, and citizens. Progressives advocate open borders, allowing anyone who arrives to enter the country, and providing for them the same medical and welfare benefits given to legal immigrants and native-born citizens. One reason for supporting open borders is that progressives see America as an oppressive race hierarchy, and open borders would allow the intake of multitudes of people of color, thus displacing the evil American whites. Progressives do not think that illegal aliens, even criminals, should be expelled, and demand that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) be restricted or disbanded. Many Democrat-controlled jurisdictions have declared themselves sanctuaries for illegal immigrants, flouting laws passed by Congress.)

Fitzsimmons (DIERSEN: How long have you lived in your precinct, in your municipal district, in your municipality, in your township, in your county, and in Illinois? I have lived a) in my precinct and in Wheaton’s West District since 1984, b) in Wheaton, Milton Township, and DuPage County since 1978, and c) in northeast Illinois since 1948. I should write a book about those in Wheaton, Milton Township, and DuPage County who continue to demonize me, denigrate me, and condemn be as being a newcomer.)
