(FROM THE ARTICLE: U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly putting “America First” even within his own administration. As the president continues to slash the federal workforce, he and his team have reportedly unveiled a new plan to ensure that any new hires are “patriotic Americans” who vow to advance the president’s policy priorities. The White House, in coordination with the Office of Personnel Management, released the directives for the departments to use when recruiting employees in a memo on Thursday. The directives represent a dramatic shift in hiring procedures at the federal level. POLITICO reported that prospective federal employees will now be required to write a short essay about how they plan to advance Trump’s priorities when applying for a job. The new procedure comes after Trump and many of his allies have railed against civil servants and accused them of trying to undermine Trump’s plans. It was also reported that those federal job vacancy announcements starting at a GS-5 pay grade or above will now have to complete the short essay responses to questions about their commitment to the Constitution, how they plan to improve government efficiency, how they plan to advance Trump’s executive orders and policy priorities, and about their work ethic. . .According to the Trump plan, federal employee hiring has focused too much on “elite universities and credentials.” The memo dictates that the government will target recruits from “state and land-grant universities, religious colleges and universities, community colleges, high schools, trade and technical schools, homeschooling groups, faith-based groups, American Legion, 4-H youth programs, and the military, veterans, and law enforcement communities.” The memo also states that agency heads are to “cease using statistics on race, sex, ethnicity or national origin, or the broader concept of ‘underrepresentation’ of certain groups” when deciding hiring or promotions. It also orders agencies to stop disseminating information about the composition of agencies’ workers based on their race, sex, color, religion, or national origin. Trump’s hiring plan also allegedly aims to expedite the hiring process in response to the order directing government-wide hiring to be completed within 80 days. Additionally, on Thursday, the administration issued a memo outlining new guidelines for hiring and talent development plans for leaders within the federal government’s career employee ranks, known as the Senior Executive Service (SES). During his first days back in the Oval Office, Trump issued a memo saying that because those officials “wield significant governmental authority, they must serve at the pleasure of the President.” The most recent memo now criticizes SES hiring as a “broken, insular” process that has “resulted in the hiring of executives who engage in unauthorized disclosure of Executive Branch deliberations, violate the constitutional rights of Americans, refuse to implement policy priorities, or perform their duties inefficiently or negligently.” Prior to the memo, it was claimed the qualifications for SES hiring “included unlawful ‘diversity, equity and inclusion’ (DEI) criteria for hiring Federal executives.” Trump’s memo stated that they were eliminating DEI factors in the hiring process and would instead focus on candidates’ efficiency, merit, competence, ability to lead, and ability to achieve results. To sustain the quick 80-day turnaround, the memo claims that OPM will provide an 80-hour intensive “fee-based aspiring executive development program” that’s “grounded in the Constitution, laws, and Founding ideals of our government, and will provide training on President Trump’s Executive Orders.” The program is “designed to equip aspiring leaders with the skills, knowledge, technical expertise, and strategic mindset necessary to excel in senior leadership roles.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Dodge is pulling the plug, so to speak, on its base model electric Charger Daytona, the R/T, as it deals with slow sales, but don’t expect what appears to be a limited-edition run of vehicles to turn into collector’s items, according to a key industry watcher. “Rarity does not make a collectible. You need to have demand for it,” said Sam Fiorani, vice president of global vehicle forecasting for AutoForecast Solutions. “You can’t presume that this will be a Charger Daytona of 1970. They couldn’t sell those originally and years later, they were collectible.” Fiorani said it’s risky to bet on a car of today becoming something that brings big dollars in the years to come, even when the numbers of those made and sold are relatively small. Still, Dodge will continue to offer the more powerful and expensive electric Charger Daytona Scat Pack for the upcoming model year, even as it prepares to launch several gas-powered versions. While it’s not clear how many Dodge Charger Daytonas will be produced this year, so far, the sales picture is showing a fairly light impact. Electric Charger sales – the company did not distinguish between versions – for the first three months of this year were at 1,947. Granted, they were just beginning to arrive in showrooms in January after months of delays. However, the automaker likely had higher hopes. Fiorani noted that he’d recently driven by a Dodge dealership and saw a row of Chargers waiting to be sold. In a statement, Dodge CEO Matt McAlear said, “Production of the Dodge Charger Daytona R/T is postponed for the 2026 model year as we continue to assess the effects of U.S. tariff policies. The Charger’s flexible, multi-energy STLA Large platform allows us to focus on the Charger Daytona Scat Pack’s performance as the world’s quickest and most powerful muscle car, add the new four-door model to the Charger mix for the 2026 model year and lean into the new Charger SIXPACK models that will launch in the second half of the year.” Sixpack refers to the engine, the inline-six Hurricane, which will come in 550-horsepower or 420-horsepower variants. The electric Scat Pack promises a peak power base of 630 horsepower with a limited push-button burst to 670 horsepower called the Power Shot. The Dodge website lists the Scat Pack all-wheel drive with a starting price of $73,985, excluding destination charge. Adding gas-powered versions to the lineup is not a surprise, as Dodge had previously said that was the plan.
