(FROM THE ARTICLE: THE ASSASSINATION of Charlie Kirk — the Wheeling native who rose from Illinois politics to become one of Donald Trump’s closest conservative allies — is reverberating through the state’s political circles, with friends saying they had feared for his well-being. “Those of us who love and care about Charlie have been worried about his safety,” Illinois businessman Gary Rabine said in a text statement. Rabine was an early backer of Turning Point USA, which Kirk cofounded in 2012 to bring conservative ideas to college campuses. “I have watched him over the past 13 years become the greatest leader behind positive change in our college universities and our country,” said Rabine, who ran for governor in 2022. “Terrible tragedy,” said former Gov. Bruce Rauner, another early donor to Turning Point noting Kirk was part of his 2014 rise to Springfield. Rauner described the young activist as “bright, talented and charismatic.” What we know: Kirk, 31, was killed by a single gunshot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University in the conservative town of Orem, about 40 miles south of Salt Lake City. No one is yet in custody, according to The Associated Press. He leaves behind a wife and two young children. Congressman Darin LaHood, a Republican, called the murder “a heinous act of political violence that has become too common in our country. Charlie did not deserve to die because of his ideological views.” Though they rarely saw eye to eye, Gov. JB Pritzker condemned the shooting and drew a wider lesson. “We’ve seen other political violence occur in other states, and it’s got to stop. There are people who are fomenting it in this country,” Pritzker told reporters upon first hearing of the shooting. He pointed to Trump’s pardons of Jan. 6 protesters as having “tripped a new era of political violence.” Trump himself broke the news, posting on Truth Social: “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. (FROM THE ARTICLE: George Floyd was a criminal and a sometime thug. By the time he died of a drug overdose in 2020, he had spent at least the last 23 years committing crimes. Over that 23-year period, he was arrested at least nine times for everything from drug possession and distribution to theft to aggravated assault. He was stopped for a wide variety of other activities that required him to do community service or did not result in an arrest. Nine arrests over 23 years might not sound like a lot, but for more than eight of those years, he was in prison and not able to prey on people. Although arrested and jailed for aggravated assault, the crime that was the catalyst for his death was his decision to pass a counterfeit $20 bill. When the police arrived, he refused to comply, fought the police, and then died from natural causes when he was pinned down to the ground, as the police were surrounded by an angry mob that made it impossible for them even to try to address Floyd’s health. Then suddenly, George Floyd became a saint. Across the country and around the world, there was gnashing of teeth, protests, and riots about his death. The Black Lives Matter grifters monetized it, politicians made speeches using it to demonize police and America, and the draconian regulations meant to protect us from a supposedly extinction-level virus were conveniently suspended so long as people were busy protesting and burning down cities. However, only with a fuller understanding of the circumstances leading up to the events captured on video does one understand that Floyd’s death was not murder or even police brutality, but rather a very unfortunate circumstance brought about by Floyd himself. But then it wasn’t George Floyd’s death itself that caused half the country to rally around the fiction of police brutality and systemic racism; it was the videos. While the videos are indeed difficult to watch, they don’t change the fact that it was Floyd’s choices that were responsible.)
