A decade later, that group—Turning Point USA—has grown into a political juggernaut, generating nearly a half-billion in total revenue in the 13 years since its inception, creating a sprawling network of campus chapters, and building a media machine that rivals legacy establishments. On Sept, 10, Kirk, a husband and father of two, was shot and killed at a Turning Point event at Utah Valley University. He was 31 years old. His death has ignited conspiracy theories, calls for gun control, and a nationwide political debate over his legacy. But it has also left the future of his formidable conservative business and non-profit enterprises hanging in the balance. By channeling polarization and student engagement, Kirk not only built an empire that sits at the center of the American right’s culture wars, but also made himself a multi-millionaire, according to the Associated Press—and one of the nation’s youngest political power brokers, with a seat at President Donald Trump’s table. A review of Kirk’s and Turning Point’s finances shows just how much Kirk benefited from and capitalized on two key trends of the last decade-plus: an energized web of right-wing donors from the business community, and the meteoric rise of the conservative media ecosystem. Turning Point USA netted $85 million in revenue in 2024 alone, up more than 142% over the last five years. The vast majority, 99.2%, of that revenue comes from charitable contributions, including at least $350,000 from Kirk himself in 2024. According to Kolvet, the organization brought in approximately 350,000 grassroots, “small dollar” donors. “The goal was to get over 500,000 this year. And, given all that’s happened, we’ve eclipsed that goal, and that’s exciting,” he added. Large and hard to trace How exactly Turning Point spends its money, and who benefits from the organization’s hefty annual revenue, is unclear. Like many political advocacy groups, it’s organized as a 501(c)3 non-profit; the IRS does not require such groups to publicly disclose detailed expenditure accounts. The lack of clarity is compounded by the fact that many of Turning Point’s largest vendors are limited liability companies registered in states that do not mandate public ownership disclosure. Within Turning Point’s organizational structure, there are also several interconnected nonprofit groups, political action committees, and a for-profit merchandise company, none of which are required to publicly report their finances. One branch, the Turning Point Endowment, held $64.3 million in 2024, having grown from $7.2 million in 2020. (FROM THE ARTICLE: THE ASSASSINATION of Charlie Kirk — the Wheeling native who rose from Illinois politics to become one of Donald Trump’s closest conservative allies — is reverberating through the state’s political circles, with friends saying they had feared for his well-being. “Those of us who love and care about Charlie have been worried about his safety,” Illinois businessman Gary Rabine said in a text statement. Rabine was an early backer of Turning Point USA, which Kirk cofounded in 2012 to bring conservative ideas to college campuses. “I have watched him over the past 13 years become the greatest leader behind positive change in our college universities and our country,” said Rabine, who ran for governor in 2022. “Terrible tragedy,” said former Gov. Bruce Rauner, another early donor to Turning Point noting Kirk was part of his 2014 rise to Springfield. Rauner described the young activist as “bright, talented and charismatic.” What we know: Kirk, 31, was killed by a single gunshot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University in the conservative town of Orem, about 40 miles south of Salt Lake City. No one is yet in custody, according to The Associated Press. He leaves behind a wife and two young children. Congressman Darin LaHood, a Republican, called the murder “a heinous act of political violence that has become too common in our country. Charlie did not deserve to die because of his ideological views.” Though they rarely saw eye to eye, Gov. JB Pritzker condemned the shooting and drew a wider lesson. “We’ve seen other political violence occur in other states, and it’s got to stop. There are people who are fomenting it in this country,” Pritzker told reporters upon first hearing of the shooting. He pointed to Trump’s pardons of Jan. 6 protesters as having “tripped a new era of political violence.” Trump himself broke the news, posting on Truth Social: “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!” Later, Trump signaled his anger, blaming the media and “radical left” in a video address from the Oval Office. Kirk got to know Trump while handling social media during his 2016 presidential. — FRONT PAGE TOP OF FOLD: Student enrollment at Illinois’ regional universities is plummeting. Under the Democrats and under the RINOs, demographics trump everything. I earned a) a bachelor’s degree when I was 21, b) master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, c) professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 46, and 48, and d) a professional license when I was 32 I spent a tremendous amount of time and money doing the aforesaid. But could I find the motivation to do the aforesaid if I was young today? From what I see, fewer and fewer and fewer of those share demographics seek college degrees, professional certifications, and professional licenses. From what I see, it is because of ever-increasing Affirmative Action and DEI, that is, it is because of ever-increasing race and gender based preference giving, patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, religious discrimination, and national origin discrimination. Young people with my demographics ever-increasingly believe that it is not only not worth the effort, but that it is impossible. From what I see, ever-increasingly, America is up-or-out for those who share my demographics. If you share my demographics, you are written off and gotten rid of if you are not making say $150,000+/year by age 25, $200,000+/year by age 30, $250,000+/year by age 35, $400,000+/year by age 40, etc. In the federal government, the earnings deadlines are $117,807 by age 25, $139,211 by age 30, $163,749 by age 35, and $195,200 by age 40. Extremely few of those who share my demographics are able to meet those earnings deadlines. Because of my demographics and because I did not make any of the aforesaid earnings deadlines, my Democrat superiors in the federal government wasted my career and got rid of me.
