WASHINGTON POST
— JANUARY 26, 2016 FLASHBACK: 600 ‘requests’ from Benghazi for better security: What this statistic really means – Glenn Kessler (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents hint/imply/argue/shout that there is no need for Illinois Republican Party (IRP) State Central Committee (SCC) members to communicate with Republican Precinct Committeemen/Captains directly because they communicate with a) Randy Pollard, the President of the Illinois Republican County Chairman’s Association, b) the chairmen of the Republican county/township/ward party organizations in their district, and c) the Republican elected officials in their district. However, far too often, far too many of the aforesaid fail/refuse to communicate with Republican Precinct Committeemen/Captains. I should write a book about it. Far too often, far too many of them communicate only with those Republican Precinct Committeemen who a) glorify and praise them, b) pander to them, c) serve as their operative or dupe, and/or d) give them money.)
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2016/01/26/600-requests-from-benghazi-for-better-security-what-this-statistic-really-means/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A key point that Republicans on the committee have tried to make was that Ambassador Chris Stevens — who perished in the 2012 attacks on U.S. facilities that left three others dead — did not directly communicate with Clinton on her private email system. (Generally, ambassadors would send messages through the chain of command.) So none of these came directly from Stevens to Clinton, “asking for help,” as Trump put it.)
— Trump’s welfare reform plan misses a key piece: transportation – Martine Powers (DIERSEN: What cars did you use to get to/from work? I used a:
– 1958 Chevy BelAir 1964-1966,
– 1966 Pontiac Tempest Sprint 1966-1967,
– 1968 Oldsmobile 442 1967-1968,

RECODE
— Amazon shareholders are getting opposite advice on whether diversity should be mandated for the company’s board – Jason Del Rey (DIERSEN: How successful would Amazon be today if it had operated like the federal government? The federal government gives tremendous preference to its employees who are Democrat, and especially to those who are minority and/or female and b) wastes the careers of and gets rid of its employees who are Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran if they do not make GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40.)

http://thetacomaledger.com/2018/05/07/opinion-green-funerals-are-a-must/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Nothing says classy quite like death. That is, dying in a way that gives back to others, whether that’s giving your possessions to charity or making your life’s accomplishments an example of what hard work and determination can earn. However, there’s one way we can all give back in death: ourselves. No, not in a metaphorical sense. Our bodies are rich in carbon, bacteria and other stuff that naturally decomposes into the environment with relative ease. That being said, it seems odd that to this day burial seems to be the preferred route of putting a loved one to eternal rest. Burial of an entire body in a metal and plastic coffin seems so off-putting and gaudy, not to mention contrary to the natural process of decomposition. While there are certain religious justifications, nonetheless the modern practice of burial is environmentally unfriendly and creates a future environmental crisis. Graveyards alone contain hundreds if not thousands of bodies, both subterranean and in mausoleums. With a large elderly and baby boomer population beginning to die off, many of these locations will be hard pressed to make room for more. The process, money and storage it takes to put the deceased in their own plot of land or on a marble shelf makes no sense. Furthermore, the resources that go into burials aren’t necessarily friendly to the earth. Since most coffins are made of plastic and varying metal alloys, they aren’t really known for their ability to break down. While the idea of being able to visit a loved one’s final resting place can be therapeutic or provide emotional closure, this practice is as wasteful as it is impractical.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: In a country that fetishizes youth, writing a book subtitled Why Life Gets Better After 50 is practically an act of revolution. But that’s exactly what the Jonathan Rauch has done. The Happiness Curve: Why Life Gets Better After 50 is a mind-blowing synthesis of social science and deeply moving personal accounts that will change the way you think about every stage of your life. Whether you’re in your early twenties, the thick of middle age, or your golden years, The Happiness Curve will help to explain not just what’s going on in your life now, but what to expect down the road. If knowledge is power, this book is pure dynamite. In a wide-ranging conversation with Nick Gillespie, Rauch explains why being aware of the aging process can help individuals be more productive and more fulfilled at every stage of life.)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— DIERSEN HEADLINE: Ever-increasingly, Illinois Democrats want Illinois taxpayers to do even more to encourage people to come to America illegally, to stay in America illegally, and to bring others to America illegally. Ever-increasingly, Illinois Democrats focus on driving individuals, organizations, and companies out of Illinois that are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time. Ever-increasingly, Illinois Democrats act like they are paid agents for criminals in Mexico and in other foreign countries.

— OCTOBER 9, 2017 FLASHBACK: When government sues to keep you in the dark – Madeleine Doubek (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents want to keep you in the dark, that is, they do not want you or anyone else to first learn of anything by reading GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails. They want you to first learn of things only from them, or from those who they manipulate/dominate or who they are in bed with. Should I write a book about the aforesaid who claim to be religious, conservative, and/or Republican? Virtually all of them reject planks in the Republican Party and/or the Illinois Republican Party platforms, most commonly, the traditional family, right to life, immigration, and/or equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) planks. Most commonly, they promote LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, booze, gambling, pot, and other vices, abolition of First and Second Amendment rights, patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Former Lake in the Hills cop in prison for sex assault on teen girl will keep $84K pension – George Houde (DIERSEN: How much is the pension that you a) are in line to get or b) are getting? Of course, since 1997, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have hinted/implied/argued/shouted that my COLA-adjusted Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) pension, currently $51,864/year, is excessive. In my defense, I worked for federal government for almost 30 years – almost 3 years for the Post Office 1966-1969, almost 9 years for IRS 1971-1980, and almost 18 years for GAO 1980-1997. In today’s dollars, my ending GS-13 Step 10 GAO salary was $125,325. My $51,864/year CSRS pension is $6,224/year less because my Democrat GAO superiors succeeded in forcing me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 and suffer a 12% early retirement penalty (2% X 6 years). Of course, my CSRS pension would be much higher if my Democrat superiors in the federal government had not wasted my career and forced me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 years old. If the Democrats who run the federal government had promoted me into their Senior Executive Service, my CSRS pension would be $131,360/year (80% of $164,200/year.)

DAILY HERALD
— College of DuPage students define their own success – Ann Rondeau (DIERSEN: In retrospect, with benefit of hindsight, what could you have done that would have made your career more successful? For me, as a federal employee, it would have been my a) becoming a Democrat, b) becoming a veteran, c) painting myself as being a yes-man, and d) helping my superiors get rid of their employees who were Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran who did not make GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40.)

http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180511/district-200-school-board-teachers-union-ink-4-year-contract
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Union members will receive across-the-board base salary increases of 2.5 percent in the first year. The district will determine annual salary increases in remaining years by averaging the rate of inflation over two levy years. The pact also establishes a 2.5 percent floor and 3.5 percent ceiling for annual cost-of-living raises in the remaining years. A first-year teacher now makes $44,525. Under the new contract, that teacher will make $45,416. The highest-paid teacher under the previous agreement received $114,616. The new contract eliminates scheduled salary steps based on longevity in the district, so there won’t be a set top salary. Instead, teachers will receive lane increases tied to their education and professional development.)

http://qctimes.com/opinion/editorial/editorial-thumbs-up-thumbs-down/article_b32a8a4e-82c4-5c0b-b141-c165f47eea0b.html
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: Illinois’ Republican governor won’t say whether he would back a state ratification of the long-stalled Equal Rights Amendment. The center-right politician is battling conservatives angered by his handling of abortion and immigration. And he’s facing Democrats frothing over his role in Illinois’ continued budgetary morass. We supported Rauner because he was precisely the kind of Republican the country needs. He’s business minded. He’s not interested in waging a culture war. He’s a man whose party has abandoned him. And that’s unfortunate. But, decades ago, Illinois was key player in stalling the proposed constitutional amendment that would guarantee women equal rights. The country has changed. And Rauner should muster Republican support in the Illinois House in order to ensure its passage.)

POLITICO ILLINOIS
— Welcome to the POLITICO Illinois Playbook! Please send tips, events, announcements to nkorecki@politico.com or @natashakorecki (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents want to keep you in the dark, that is, they do not want you or anyone else to first learn of anything by reading GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails.

INTELLECTUAL CONSERVATIVE
— Google Censoring Christian Ads – Rachel Alexander (DIERSEN: I should write a book about those in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois who have lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout who talk and act like they hate Missouri Synod Lutherans.)
http://www.intellectualconservative.com/google-censoring-christian-ads/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Google said no to the conservative Lutheran publisher because … it’s religious. Concordia Publishing House CEO Bruce Kintz says Google will no longer accept ads for its Remarketing AdWords program because “the items in the ad and on the CPH website refer to Jesus and/or the Bible.” According to a Concordia press release, Google told CPH its ads were “disabled due to a violation of Google’s policy for advertising based on interests and location.” When CPH objected, the company told them it did not allow remarketing ads based on Christian beliefs. CPH could either remove the offending words or apply for a different type of ad. When asked, the Google rep refused to send the decision to reject the ads up for review. Remarketing ads are targeted at users who have visited a website. Google describes them as showing “ads to people who’ve visited your website or used your mobile app. When people leave your website without buying anything, for example, remarketing helps you reconnect with them by showing relevant ads across their different devices.”)

NEW YORK TIMES
— DIERSEN HEADLINE: Ever-increasingly, Democrats want American taxpayers to do even more to encourage people to come to America illegally, to stay in America illegally, and to bring others to America illegally. Ever-increasingly, Democrats focus on driving individuals, organizations, and companies out of America that are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time. — Colleges Hire Consultants to Help Manipulate Student Loan Default Rates – Erica L. Green (DIERSEN: What percent of defaulted student loans were for degrees that are not job-related? My undergraduate degree and my three graduate degrees are job-related. Nevertheless, my Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates in the federal government always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that those degrees a) were not job-related, b) did not help me carry out my job duties, c) were taken by me to get a job in the private sector, and d) were a distraction.)

I should write a book about those in my precinct, in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, in the 6th congressional district, and in Illinois who take the lead in promoting hatred against federal employees and against federal retirees. Because I am a federal retiree, if I was a “single issue” person like many, if not most of my critics/opponents, their operatives, their dupes are, I WOULD BE A DEMOCRAT. (DIERSEN: Questions for your Illinois Republican Party (IRP) State Central Committee (SCC) member:
– Does the agenda for the May 19 IRS SCC meeting include a public comment period, and if so, how long and how many minutes will each speaker be limited to?
– What is the status of potential Winchester litigation against the IRP?
– If the 15th Congressional District (CD) IRP SCC position is still in dispute on May 19, will the vote for IRP chairman be postponed or will the vote be taken without the 12.1% 15th CD weighted vote?
– Do you agree with those who believe that if Rose casts the 15th CD weighted vote, Schneider will be reelected and if the vote is taken without the 15th CD weighted vote, or if Winchester casts it, Shaw will be elected?
– In the past, especially in 2005 and 2013, many have sought the IRP chairman position. Why are only two seeking the position now?
– Will the IRP allow Ives to speak in favor of Shaw at the May 19 IRP SCC meeting?
– Who does Schneider want the IRP Executive Director to be? Who does Shaw want the IRP Executive Director to be?
– Would it be correct to say that you will only vote for an IRP chairman candidate who can and will defend and advance all the planks in the Republican Party platform and the IRP platform, including their traditional family, right to life, and immigration planks?
– What is your weighted vote and which IRP chairman candidate are you going to vote for and why?
– How many chairs will the IRP set up for observers at the IRP SCC meeting: 100, 200, 300, 400, 500+?

To get my Post Office job, I passed the Post Office’s employment test in 1966, earned a high school diploma in 1966, and met the job’s many other requirements. To get my IRS job, I passed the Federal Service Entrance Examination in 1970, earned a job-related bachelor’s degree in 1970, and met the job’s many other requirements. I overcame tremendous efforts by my Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates to waste my career and to get rid of me. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Three Illinois conservatives who have a keen understanding of politics were asked by Illinois Family Action to comment on the upcoming meeting of the Illinois Republican Party’s State Central Committee on May 19th. A lot is at stake — here are just two related items. First, there’s the question of the establishment’s tampering with the county party State Central Committee elections last month. The outcome of one of the races is being contested. Second, that outcome will probably decide who gets chosen for the party chairmanship. The Bruce Rauner-backed incumbent, Tim Schneider, is seeking reelection, and conservatives who are seeking better leadership have put forward an alternative candidate, Mark Shaw. There needs to be a strong conservative turnout at that meeting! Here are the comments of three conservative leaders in Illinois (Carol Davis, Pam Johnson, and Doug Ibendahl):)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-rauner-gop-chairman-squabble-0511-20180510-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: An attorney for an unsuccessful candidate for the Republican State Central Committee says his client may go to court to try to reverse a decision by the Illinois State Board of Elections — a move that could affect who becomes the next state GOP chairman. State Board officials said they had no choice under law Thursday but to certify the results of county conventions held previously across the state that elected a member of the state central committee from each of the state’s 18 congressional districts. Those 18 will decide — by a weighted vote of GOP ballots cast in the March primary — whether to keep Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner’s handpicked chairman, Cook County Commissioner Tim Schneider, or opt for challenger Lake County GOP Chairman Mark Shaw. The battle represents a continued outgrowth of dissatisfaction among the party’s social conservatives that played out in Rauner’s narrow win in the March GOP gubernatorial primary over state Rep. Jeanne Ives of Wheaton. Ives is backing Shaw, as are many of Rauner’s conservative critics. Rauner has pointed out he picked Schneider, and the wealthy governor has largely been the state GOP’s sole funding source. At issue are the results of the Downstate GOP state committeeman’s race in the 15th Congressional District, one of the most Republican in the state, which could decide the outcome of the party chairman’s contest. Rauner supporter and state Rep. Chapin Rose of Mahomet was declared the narrow winner over former state Rep. Bob Winchester of Rosiclare who is backing Shaw. Stephen Boulton, an attorney representing Winchester, said no decision had been made about going to court, alleging irregularities in counting by a GOP staff working under Schneider’s direction. Such a decision will have to come quickly, with the Republican State Central Committee scheduled to meet May 19 in Springfield. “It’s difficult, expensive and a few other things, so I think a lot of people who aren’t me have to decide what they want to do,” Boulton said after the state board’s 7-0 vote. John Fogarty, the legal counsel for the state GOP, dismissed Boulton’s criticism that vote tallying at the county conventions lacked safeguards. “These are political elections. They are not any type of election that the state can come in and force, order with election judges and the like. These are county conventions and the counties are perfectly able to conduct these elections in the manner that they see fit,” Fogarty said.)

They would not have done that if I had been a Democrat, a minority, a female, or a veteran.)

http://www.illinoishomepage.net/capitol-connection/gop-chairman-showdown-heats-up/1172844944
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The fight for control of the Illinois Republican Party is heating up with little more than a week left before they pick a party chair. Thursday afternoon, the Illinois State Board of Elections confirmed results from the State Central Committee’s contest. But, there is still a dispute over the winner in the 15th Congressional District. The results showed State Senator Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) won. He could be the deciding vote, but critics say the process was rigged. According to Matt Dietrich, a spokesman for the State Board of Elections, ISBE has no legal authority over the party rules. “All we are able to do under state statute is accept the results when the party gives them to us from their county conventions and certify those results, which are then used to elect the state chairman,” Dietrich said. Local party operative Mark Shaw said Thursday’s announcement shouldn’t significantly change the outcome of his race against current GOP Chairman Tim Schneider. Shaw is threatening legal action because of the dispute. Governor Bruce Rauner’s office released a statement after the results were announced. “Sen. Rose and the 17 other members of the State Central Committee will be seated at the upcoming meeting and will cast their votes for party chairman,” Rauner spokesman Aaron DeGroot stated. “We look forward to completing this important party business and focusing our efforts to defeat JB Pritzker and Mike Madigan in the upcoming November election.” The committee is scheduled to appoint the party chair on May 19th.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Illinois Senate is sending a message to Washington D.C. They took action on a bill on Thursday that would ensure all people in Illinois wouldn’t have to register their faith in a database. The Senate unanimously approved Senate Bill 3488, which would bar Illinois from participating in any sort of religious registry. Senate President John Cullerton, D-Chicago, is the sponsor of the bill. He said the bill comes after President Donald Trump suggested creating a Muslim-registry. President Trump floated the idea during his campaign. Cullerton said forcing people to register their religion is ‘un-American.’ He said he doesn’t want Illinois to be part of such narrow-minded politics. “The bill was initially in response, quite frankly, to the last presidential election where it was indicated by the president that he wanted to create a federal registry of Muslims,” Cullerton said. A Senate Republican spokesman said Republicans who voted for this bill aren’t necessarily taking a stance against the president. He said they’re trying to protect religious freedoms. The bill is now heading to the House for consideration.)

The Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit noted that federal retirements (and resignations) are presumed to be voluntary, but that presumption can be overcome if the employee proves that he or she “had no realistic alternative but to resign or retire, and the employee’s resignation or retirement was the result of improper acts by the agency.” That should be determined by examining “the surrounding circumstances to test the ability of the employee to exercise free choice.” The court sent back to the MSPB a case in which a retiree argued that his retirement was involuntary, saying that the MSPB improperly viewed his evidence as a series of separate developments, none of which it found was sufficient to support that claim. The court cited the employee’s evidence that he was afraid to meet personally with certain supervisors after “multiple instances of hostility” from them, his request to be transferred away from them, and the worsening of a health problem. The court said that they should have been considered “as a series of escalating incidents” and viewing them “collectively, rather than dismissing them one by one, as the Board did, we find that a person in like circumstances could reasonably feel unable to exercise free choice and compelled to retire.”)
— Guidance Sent on Recording Resignations ahead of Possible Discipline (DIERSEN: Outrageously, I was denied my 7th Amendment rights in Diersen v GAO.)
https://www.fedweek.com/federal-managers-daily-report/guidance-sent-on-recording-resignations-ahead-of-possible-discipline/

(FROM THE ARTICLE: OPM has told agencies to record in the official personnel file of an employee who resigns during an investigation that could lead to disciplinary the results of that investigation if the agency concludes that action would have been warranted. The guidance carries out a 2016 change in law resulting from concerns that by resigning, those employees could later return to the government without consequences because their personnel records would not reflect it. That same law also required agencies to review those records when considering hiring a former federal employee. OPM’s memo says that before putting that information in an individual’s official personnel file, an agency must provide notice of the adverse finding and an opportunity to respond and receive a final agency decision. That could be appealed to the MSPB. “While the statute prescribes the process for making the required permanent notation, an agency may use its own discretion for determining the format for making the notation. Agencies may wish to consult with their legal counsel,” OPM said. The guidance includes a sample for documenting the notation, and further recommends that agencies place the document and any supporting materials on the permanent side of the employee’s OPF, subject to removal if the employee prevails in an appeal at the MSPB.)

NORTHWEST HERALD
— McSweeney: Gov. Bruce Rauner should apologize for meeting with ‘known extremist’ Diane Evertsen David McSweeney attacks governor for meeting with ‘known extremist’ Diane Evertsen – ED KOMENDA  (DIERSEN: Why did Rauner meet privately with the leaders of the McHenry County Republican Party? What if Rauner met privately with the leaders of your Republican county party organization and/or with the leaders of your Republican township/ward party organization? In the 2002 Illinois Republican gubernatorial primary, Corrine Wood called Jim Ryan an extremist.)
http://www.nwherald.com/2018/05/08/mcsweeney-gov-bruce-rauner-should-apologize-for-meeting-with-known-extremist-diane-evertsen/adt9cfh/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A state lawmaker is lambasting Gov. Bruce Rauner after Illinois’ top leader met with members of the McHenry County Republican Party over the weekend in private. Rauner spent part of his Saturday at an invitation-only roundtable at the McHenry County GOP’s Crystal Lake headquarters – an event featuring a Who’s Who of party insiders, including: McHenry County Sheriff Bill Prim, McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally and McHenry County Board Member Jim Kearns. But State Rep. David McSweeney, R-Barrington Hills, took issue with someone else in attendance at the Saturday meet-up: McHenry County’s new chairwoman, Diane Evertsen, who at one time served as president of the Minutemen Midwest – an organization the Southern Poverty Law Center designated a “nativist extremist” group. “The governor should apologize for meeting with a known extremist,” said McSweeney, who heard about the meeting after it happened. McSweeney pointed to Evertsen’s association with Minutemen Midwest, which the SPLC named several times on its annual list of nativist extremist groups between 2007 and 2010. The Alabama-based civil rights nonprofit defines nativist extremist groups as organizations that go beyond mere advocacy to personally confront suspected undocumented immigrants or those who hire or help them. McSweeney said a simple Google search reveals the views of the group Evertsen chaired. The legislator characterized those views as “disgraceful.” Minutemen Midwest had a website – www.minutemenmidwest.com – but it has been taken down since its launch. While the site is dead, some of the material published there is recoverable with the internet archive known as the “Wayback Machine,” McSweeney said. McSweeney highlighted an article published on the website written by William H. Calhoun titled “Illegal Immigration: Third-World Invasion” – a piece suggesting the U.S. is under threat by immigrants of different “blood.” “Invaders from the Orient, Asia, Africa, Central and South America are invading the first world, and they are intent only upon conquest,” the article said. “With the exception of a very small upper class of pure European blood, most Mexicans are either Amerindian or Mestizo (mostly Amerindian with a few drops of Spaniard or African blood). They are not Western; genealogically they are Asiatic; and they despise the West.” The article appalled McSweeney, he said. “It’s probably the most extreme article that I’ve read in a long time,” McSweeney said. “It’s disgusting.” Evertsen, a 73-year-old Harvard grandmother who once served on the McHenry County Board and now serves on McHenry County College’s board of trustees, could not be reached for comment. The Northwest Herald also reached out to Gov. Rauner’s campaign communications director for comment, but campaign officials weren’t immediately available Tuesday. About 20 people attended the Saturday gathering, according to sources invited to the event.)

(Paid for by our outrageous property taxes, by the way.) This bill (SB3249) also requires schools to teach about the illegal deportation of Mexicans during the Great Depression and labor union contributions to our economy. And children will not be permitted to graduate eighth grade if they don’t receive this instruction. Holy political agenda, Democrats! But, perhaps you are sincerely interested in teaching our children an accurate and nondiscriminatory account of our history. If this is true, you must necessarily include a unit on the societal benefits that Catholics have contributed toward Illinois’ schools, hospitals and charities. The impact is quite significant. I would encourage anyone reading this to demand that your particular group be recognized in a mandatory history unit as well. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Companies trying to rectify a legacy of discrimination are finding that some tactics are backfiring and sparking new grievances. The Wing, a women’s shared-office space and networking club, has drawn such ire. Its no-men-allowed membership policy for collaboration spaces in trendy New York neighborhoods is designed to attract like-minded women professionals who want to encourage and invest in one another. The Wing recently opened a Washington, D.C., location and there is a wait list for a future office in Los Angeles, the company says. In March, the New York City Human Rights Commission launched an investigation into the Wing’s practices, which include workshops on political organization and panels reserved for members featuring celebrities and U.S. legislators. Seth Hoy, a spokesman for the New York commission, confirmed the agency’s probe and declined to comment on it further. He says the agency works to ensure that businesses comply with laws prohibiting gender discrimination. The inquiry is one of the latest examples of how female-only initiatives and other diversity efforts are drawing objections from those who feel left out or challenge the idea that people in historically underrepresented groups need targeted resources to help them accelerate in their careers and are raising concerns that the programs unfairly exclude other people.)

My critics/opponents who have less income than I do use that to paint me as being a undeservedly filthy rich.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/discuss/20180507/estimated-tax-savings-appears-to-be-inflated
(FROM THE LETTER: In the Daily Herald’s March 22 issue, Peter Roskam is quoted saying that the median income of a family of four in the 6th congressional district is $135,000. And it stands to save $4,000 in 2018 federal income taxes. My senses told me that Rep. Roskam’s numbers were inflated, so I searched a number of sources and selected the highest 6th District family income given by the federal government’s Census Bureau. The Census Bureau reports the district’s median family income is $98,000. I also calculated the income taxes at both levels and found that a family owning a home with a mortgage would save only $2,000 at Roskam’s suggested median income and only a few hundred dollars at the Census Bureau’s reported median income.)

– individual responsibility,
– traditional marriage and traditional family,
– homeownership,
– right to life,
– compliance with America’s immigration laws,

– all the planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform.)

http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180505/roskam-meets-in-closed-door-session-with-students-on-gun-issues
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Among the issues discussed were universal background checks, whether teachers should be armed in classrooms and mental health issues. Since media were not invited, some of the six students who originally requested the meeting with Roskam held a media conference call afterward. “What we were looking for from Mr. Roskam was to basically get an insight of whether he had taken any action on school safety and common sense gun reform,” said Jeromel Lara, a junior at Glenbard North. “It wasn’t very politically divisive,” said Caleb Laschinski, a Carol Stream senior at Wheaton Academy who found out about the Saturday meeting from a friend who was a former Roskam intern. “We all saw that there definitely should be reform and laws passed and we need to see some action on the part of lawmakers — whatever those actions should be is where we differed.” Contacted by phone after the meeting, Laschinski said he was surprised by Roskam’s reluctance to support arming teachers — though Roskam did clarify that he wanted individual school districts to make the call on that issue. “I hope the students left the meeting knowing that we found common ground and feeling like the meeting was as productive as I believe it was,” Roskam said in a prepared statement. “I encourage these students to stay engaged and informed on issues that they are passionate about like gun safety and am pleased that we were able to connect on such an important subject.” While many of the students were glad that Roskam agreed to the Saturday meeting, they still wished he would have done so in a more public forum. “It’s an issue that affects the whole community,” Lara said. “Not just students going to school, but all of us.”)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— The hunt for Pancho Villa in Mexico — and the massive deployment of National Guard troops – Ron Grossman (DIERSEN: What do today’s citizens of Mexico, many millions of whom are in America legally or illegally, say about Pancho Villa and America’s response to Pancho Villa?)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/commentary/ct-perspec-flash-pancho-villa-mexico-border-troops-0506-20180430-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: But each of those actions was small potatoes compared with what happened in 1916, when President Woodrow Wilson mobilized more than 100,000 National Guard members for duty on the U.S. side of the Rio Grande — plus 14,000 more regular U.S. Army troops ready to serve as a mobile strike force in Mexico. The Mexican Revolution, which had begun in 1910, had lapped over to U.S. soil, and on March 9, 1916, Gen. Francisco “Pancho” Villa attacked Columbus, N.M., burning the town and killing 19 Americans. The Tribune reported that, after the battle, a copy of a letter was found that Villa had sent to a rival revolutionary leader. “I shall not expend another shell on brother Mexicans,” Villa wrote in the letter, “but will prepare and organize to attack Americans on their own soil and let them know that Mexico is a land of the free and the tomb of thorn less crowns and traitors.” The incident and the letter put enormous pressure on Wilson. The president had been tiptoeing through the tangled web of Mexican politics, but the press demanded action. The New York Times thundered: “We cannot afford to make this latest Mexican outrage a matter for extended parley and negotiation.” The St. Louis Post-Dispatch seconded the motion: “Hesitation in this crisis would be fatal.” The Philadelphia Inquirer crowed: “President Wilson’s pet bandit is not at all grateful.” In fact, Wilson had momentarily backed Villa during the incessant power struggles of the Mexican revolutionary leaders. “Why has never been explained adequately,” the Tribune noted, adding its own theory. Wilson’s secretary of state, William Jennings Bryan, being an evangelical Christian, favored Villa “after being informed, though incorrectly, that the bandit neither smoked or drank.” In the face of the public outcry, Wilson authorized “a punitive expedition” to pursue Villa, who had crossed back into Mexico. In the deployment that followed, the Illinois National Guard was the first to reach the border. Its mobilization mirrored the social order of the day. A North Shore artillery unit was known as “the millionaire battery,” having been formed by members of the swank University Club. Noting its initial encampment en route to the border, a Tribune headline read: “University Men Members of National Guard Will Take Cannon Through Evanston To Golf Club.” Robert McCormick, the Tribune’s publisher, was a major in a National Guard cavalry unit and wrote to a U.S. senator from Illinois pleading for better pay for the soldiers, many of whom he said were “working for the government for criminally small compensation.” “Isn’t it about time to bring up in congress the question of adequately paying our soldiers?” he wrote. Rich or poor, Illinois citizen-soldiers arrived in Texas inadequately equipped, as one guardsman wrote in a letter passed on to the Tribune. “The tentage was not complete,” he noted. “Some tents were unserviceable. The poles did not fit.”)

They say he retains office funding and other legislator rights, including voting, representing constituents and seeking assistance from offices that write bills and perform research. That led to the following exchange this week between McCann and a TV reporter. Reporter: “You still have the right to vote. You still have the right to debate on the (Senate) floor. You still have the Legislative Reference Bureau. How is your power as a legislator in any way void from what it was two weeks ago?” McCann: “I think the way you phrased that question shows me you are not an honest arbiter in this process. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Daniel Marques had hoped to parlay his “Dreamer” work permit into a job with Bank of America Corp. Instead, he’s suing the firm for discrimination. Marques, who is from Brazil, claims his application to work in the bank’s wealth management department in New Jersey was denied after he told a vice president who interviewed him in 2016 that he’d be required to renew his work authorization under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Bill Halldin, a spokesman for Bank of America, said the company would be reviewing Marques’ claims as the bank “does not have any prohibition on hiring individuals with DACA status.” The complaint was filed Thursday as a class action by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), which said it seeks to represent other immigrants nationwide with renewable work permits rejected for jobs with the second-largest U.S. bank. Marques has a similar complaint against Allied Wealth Partners, which also declined to hire him while he was hunting for a job in the spring of 2016. MALDEF separately sued Procter & Gamble Co. on behalf of another so-called Dreamer. A company’s refusal to hire a candidate because their work authorization papers will ultimately expire “may constitute illegal discrimination,” according to the Department of Homeland Security.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: According to the six-year-old NAR survey, 65 percent of all buyers are married couples. That was up from 58 percent for married buyers. Meanwhile, Brookings last year noted income and graduation rates in an article on the “new face of American homeownership.” The writer Jenny Schuetz says new homeowners outstripped renters in educational attainment and income. New homeowners’ $69,000 median income was close to double that of renters and slightly higher than established owners. Also, nearly 40 percent of owners have a college degree, compared with 26 percent for tenants. “These differences are not surprising, given that households with higher, more stable incomes and more assets can more easily accumulate down payments and qualify for mortgages,” she says.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Should you marry when you’re young or old? Keep your marriage open or closed? Change your name, or not? Should you marry at all? (Oprah doesn’t think so.) These are questions many couples grapple with, but marriage also comes with financial consequences. It can significantly alter your taxes, student loans, and chances of getting a mortgage, among other things. So don’t wait to think about “for richer, for poorer” until it’s time to take the vows. Here are three key financial factors to consider when you’re deciding whether to tie the knot. Taxes There’s a widely held belief that marriage comes with tax perks: namely, that a married couple’s combined tax bill will fall. But it’s also possible that you and your partner could face a marriage penalty, paying more in taxes on your combined income than if you both stayed single.)

— Too many men: Examining the gender imbalances of India and China Decades of selective births have left the two countries with a delicate issue: What to do with 70 million lonely men? – SIMON DENYER and ANNIE GOWEN
https://www.thestar.com/news/insight/2018/05/05/too-many-men-examining-the-gender-imbalances-of-india-and-china.html

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Stagnant lives: Village life and mental health. Among men, loneliness and depression are widespread. Villages are emptying out. Men are learning to cook and perform other chores long relegated to women. The desperate effort to land a bride: Housing prices and savings rates. Bachelors are furiously building houses in China to attract wives, and prices are soaring. But otherwise they are not spending, and that in turn fuels China’s huge trade surplus. In India, there is the opposite effect: Because brides are scarce, families are under less pressure to save for expensive dowries. Importing a bride: Human trafficking. Trafficking of brides is on the rise. Foreign women are being recruited and lured to China, effectively creating similar imbalances in China’s neighbors. Taking a stand over harassment: Public safety. With the increase in men has come a surge in sexual crime in India and concerns about a rise in other crimes in both countries. Harassment of schoolgirls in India has in some towns sparked an effort to push back — but at a cost of restricting them to more protected lives.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— JUNE 1, 2013 FLASHBACK: Lobbyist Jack Dorgan is new Illinois GOP party chairman – Monique Garcia (DIERSEN: I was there while “Each candidate had five minutes to sell themselves to members of the Republican State Central Committee before the group conducted closed door interviews.”)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-illinois-republican-gop-chairman-jack-dorgan-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois Republican leaders on Saturday choose a lobbyist and Rosemont trustee to serve as state party chairman following several hours of closed door talks. Jack Dorgan’s selection follows the resignation of former chair Pat Brady, who came under fire for bucking the Republican platform when he announced his support for gay marriage. “We’ve had some growing pains right now, and we’re ready, we’re united, were going to move forward and show people there’s a two-party system (in Illinois),” said Dorgan, who was the favorite entering deliberations. Dorgan has long been involved in Republican politics, beginning as an aide to the late Rep. Roger McAuliffe, who long held the designation as the only Republican legislator from Chicago. Dorgan also served as deputy chief of staff to former House Speaker Lee Daniels and as an aide to Gov. Jim Thompson and director of the Liquor Control Commission under Gov. Jim Edgar. But Dorgan also has close ties to Illinois’ ruling Democrats. He founded a lobbying practice with James McPike, a former majority leader for House Speaker Michael Madigan, who doubles as Illinois Democratic Party chairman. The firm’s clients include Ameren, AT&T, Fairmount Park race track, the Illinois Hospital Association and the Illinois Asphalt Pavement Association, a group formerly headed by Bill Cellini, who is now serving prison time after being convicted of federal corruption charges. Other finalists for the position included Hinsdale businessman Jim Nalepa; Angel Garcia, head of the Chicago Young Republicans; Lake Forest attorney Mark Shaw; Springfield lawyer Don Tracy; Chicago attorney Lori Yokoyama and former congressman and tea party activist Joe Walsh. Each candidate had five minutes to sell themselves to members of the Republican State Central Committee before the group conducted closed door interviews. Deliberations were not open to the public, but officials said Dorgan won after the first round of balloting.)
— Cook County clerk on how, when and where people voted — or didn’t vote — in March primary – Ted Slowik (DIERSEN: In your precinct, what do you think the main reasons are why a) registered Republican voters cast or did not cast Republican ballots, b) registered Democrat voters cast or did not cast Democrat ballots, c) unaffiliated voters cast or did not cast Republican or Democrat ballots, d) registered Republican voters changed their party affiliation by casting Democrat ballots, and e) registered Democrat voters changed their party affiliation by casting Republican ballots? Why do voters who cast Republican ballots vote for candidates in contested races, but not for candidates in uncontested races?)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/daily-southtown/news/ct-sta-slowik-post-election-report-st-0506-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Before the March gubernatorial primary fades into memory and voters focus on November, let’s take a moment to review a few details about the most recent election. This analysis comes courtesy of the office of distinguished public servant and retiring Cook County Clerk David Orr. His office on Wednesday released its post-election report for the March primary. Orr’s office is one of a handful of county clerks that provides the detailed post-mortem statistical analysis. The clerk’s website has post-election reports dating back to 2008. “We send it to a few friends,” Orr told me Friday. “If we get a good idea from somewhere else we adapt it. Every year we build on it.” The 110-page report is full of data about voter behavior, trends and historical analysis. For some, this dense study might seem like a cure for insomnia. But political geeks can discover compelling nuggets about when, how and where people voted — or didn’t vote. The March primary saw record-breaking or near-record setting marks in the number of registered voters, voters who took part in the election, the percentage of voters who participated in early voting and the overall turnout rate, the report said. “There are some fascinating findings,” Orr told me. “One result was the amazing percentage of Democratic ballots versus Republican ballots.” In March, 76 percent of suburban Cook County voters pulled Democratic ballots. That ties with the February 2008 primary for the highest percentage in the past 24 years. The lowest rate of Democratic ballots pulled since 1994 was in March 2014, at just 45 percent. “I don’t think it’s a case of Republicans not voting so much as it is greater numbers of Democrats turning out,” Orr said. “You had hot races for governor in both parties and several other hot contests.” Statewide, incumbent Gov. Bruce Rauner eked out a narrow win over challenger Jeanne Ives in the Republican primary. Rauner won with about 52 percent of the vote — an unexpectedly close margin of about 20,000 votes. Rauner carried suburban Cook County by about 10,000 votes, though Ives, a state representative from Wheaton, won in Bremen, Lemont, Thornton and Worth townships. Orr’s post-election report is a deep dive that might give voters in some south suburbs and their party leaders a chance to brag about the success of their ability to get out the vote.)

DAILY HERALD
— MAY 13, 2014 FLASHBACK: Illinois GOP leader Dorgan says he won’t seek another term – Mike Riopell
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20140512/news/140519516/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois Republican Party Chairman Jack Dorgan of Rosemont won’t run for another term and will back Cook County Commissioner Tim Schneider of Bartlett to replace him, he announced Monday. Dorgan, a Rosemont village trustee and Springfield lobbyist, said he’s joining Republican Bruce Rauner’s campaign for governor to co-chair the Winnetka businessman’s finance committee. The Republican State Central Committee is set to pick a new chairman Saturday in Springfield. Dorgan sits on that committee representing the 5th Congressional District. Blair Garber of Evanston, who sits on the committee from the 9th Congressional District, is the only other candidate. But Schneider’s backing from both Rauner and Dorgan gives him a clear advantage going into Saturday’s vote. “It has been my great honor to lead the Illinois Republican Party as chairman over the last year, helping position our candidates across Illinois for an incredible victory this November,” Dorgan said in a statement. Dorgan was first elected to the post a year ago following the resignation of Pat Brady of St. Charles, who was nearly ousted from the job after lobbying state lawmakers to vote for same-sex marriage. Dorgan released his statement jointly with Rauner, whose success or failure at the top of the ticket against Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn is likely to be linked to the party’s fate statewide in November. The party’s chairman is tasked with raising money and trying to help its candidates win in November, a big task for a volunteer job in a state that’s leaned Democratic statewide in recent years. The GOP in Illinois has targeted the governor’s race as its top priority.)

CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
— MAY 13, 2014 FLASHBACK: Rauner’s revealing move to replace Illinois GOP chairman
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20140513/BLOGS02/140519950/rauners-revealing-move-to-replace-illinois-gop-chairman
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Bruce Rauner has played his cards incredibly close to the vest since winning the GOP gubernatorial nomination, disclosing almost nothing about who will be on his team, how he’d balance the budget and what his governance style would be. But we may have learned a few things from his decision to oust Jack Dorgan as Illinois GOP chairman and replace him with Cook County Commissioner Tim Schneider. The first thing we learned is that, for a zillionaire used to getting his way, Mr. Rauner sometimes can act with a minimum of fingerprints. Though Crain’s (via an AP story) and other outlets reported this morning that Mr. Dorgan had chosen not to seek a new term as chairman and instead would become co-chair of Mr. Rauner’s finance team, the truth is that he was pushed. Multiple party sources report that Team Rauner was concerned that it didn’t look very good that the state party was headed by a registered lobbyist with an A-list of clients — or that, at a time when incumbent Gov. Pat Quinn is under fire for alleged patronage abuses, Mr. Dorgan had held top political jobs with former Govs. Jim Thompson and Jim Edgar. So squeaky-clean was in and the political warhorse was out. Good for Mr. Dorgan for getting the message and not putting up a fight. But we certainly learned that Mr. Rauner is capable of decisive actions that pull the plug. I think we also discovered that Mr. Rauner is loyal — particularly to people who emulate his mode of politics of being socially moderate and fiscally conservative. BIG EARLY BACKER Mr. Schneider didn’t return my call today. But he was an early, big backer of the Rauner candidacy, and he’s really tight — he once tried to block creation of a county film office as frivolous spending — without having developed a reputation as a social-issues crusader. It also doesn’t hurt a bit that he cuts a nice figure on TV, a crucial skill in this media-driven age. Meanwhile, in statements, Mr. Rauner is praising Mr. Dorgan as “an extraordinary chairman,” and Mr. Dorgan said the party is “firing on all cylinders and ready to deliver a new direction to the people of Illinois.” Mr. Schneider does have one opponent in the vote set for May 17: Blair Garber, the committeeman from the North Side/north suburban 9th District. But I’d be surprised if there was much of a fight. Gubernatorial nominees by tradition get to remake their party. And if this nominee becomes governor, we may have learned a couple of things about how he’d remake Illinois.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Gov. Rauner says he doesn’t rest or sleep much but likes to skate and ride his motorcycle with veterans and “union guys,” according to his re-election campaign’s latest social strategy, a series of videos called “Brewskis with Bruce.” Sitting with seven people over beers, one of them tells Rauner in the one-minute video: “Your presence at the motorcycle shows and at the different events they have throughout the local area here is awesome.” Rauner, who rode his Harley-Davidson in a kickoff video for his re-election campaign, responds by touting his motorcycle rides with “union guys” — despite his frequent clashes with organized labor. He also promotes how much he likes to ride with veterans, as his administration faces sharp criticism over its handling of continued Legionnaire’s disease outbreaks at the state-run veterans home in Downstate Quincy, where a 2015 outbreak killed 13 people. “I love riding with veterans. I love riding with police officers. I love riding for Toys for Tots to fundraise. I’ve been a motorcycle rider since I was 14. I got my first dirt bike. I saved up. I raked leaves and mowed grass and saved up. I saved up and bought a little dirt bike,” Rauner says in the video. “Since I became governor I’ve joined, um, I was invited to join and I was honored to do it, a group called the Canaryville Veterans Riders Association,” Rauner said. He had a dust-up with the group in 2015. “They’re based on the South Side of Chicago. It’s a lot of union guys. It’s police officers, firefighters, carpenters, electricians, plumbers and they support veterans. And I love to ride with veterans.”)

NORTHWEST HERALD
— Roskam makes 6th Congressional District campaign stop in Marengo Incumbent defends Trump’s $1.5T tax cut plan; Casten attacks his standing with president – ED KOMENDA (DIERSEN: Those who want Roskam to lose on November 6, 2018 want him to pander to those who are anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-patriotic, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, anti-draft avoiders, and anti-those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time. Those who want Roskam to lose on November 6, 2018 want Roskam to dump those who share my demographics: Trump supporter, Protestant (baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran), conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, old (I am 69), non-poor, gun owner, German American, draft avoider, ancestors have been in America for a long time, former union member, retiree, homeowner, married, childless, pet-less, American nameplate car owner, etc. I should write a book about those in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in DuPage County, and in Illinois who want Roskam to lose on November 6, 2018. They focus on demonizing me, denigrating me, and condemning me. They blame me for their problems. They blame me for Roskam’s problems. They blame me for your problems. They blame me for my problems. They blame me for everyone’s problems.)

WBUR
— Debt Plagues Too Many College Graduates. Public Universities Should Be Free – Rich Barlow (DIERSEN: If you were graduating this year instead of the year that you did, would you be debt-free? I graduated debt-free from NIU 38 years ago and owing a 18-month-old Dodge Charger SE. Almost all the money for my college expenses came from my part-time job delivering mail for the Post Office. In today’s dollars, my pay increased from $15.85/hour in 1966 to $16.91/hour in 1969. Because my parents provided me with room and board while attended UIC 1966-1968, I could afford to a) pay all my tuition and book expenses, b) buy a new 1968 Oldsmobile 442 in 1967, c) buy a new 1969 Dodge Charger SE in 1968, and d) pay for my room and board at NIU 1969-1970.)
http://www.wbur.org/cognoscenti/2018/05/03/the-case-for-free-college-rich-barlow
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Seventy percent of college students graduate owing significant student loans; the average exceeds $37,000, a burdensome headwind discouraging attendance. In particular, low-income students, plagued by poor K-through-12 schools and, well, low incomes, lag their wealthier peers in college enrollment.)

— IL Senate Says ‘No More’ To Hefty Severance Payouts For Dismissed Public Employees – DAISY CONTRERAS (DIERSEN: Should I sue those who hint/imply/argue/shout that I am guilty of “misconduct” and that is why the federal government took adverse actions against me?)
http://nprillinois.org/post/il-senate-says-no-more-hefty-severance-payouts-dismissed-public-employees#stream/0
(FROM THE ARTICLE: When Illinois public officials are dismissed for misconduct, they are sometimes awarded large severance packages – which are paid for by taxpayers. A new proposal approved by the Senate would stop the practice. Under the plan, golden parachutes – as these payouts are called – would be eliminated in cases where someone is fired under circumstances of misconduct. These range from criminal assault, abuse or neglect in the workplace. When dismissal is not for misconduct, packages would be capped at 5 months. If the plan becomes law, any future public employee contract would follow this limit.)

DUPAGE POLICY JOURNAL
— Public employee tally: Bottom 25 counties in Illinois (DIERSEN: The number of DuPage County employees per capita will increase significantly a) because Democrats and RINOs are bringing into the county more and more and more people who need massive government assistance and b) because the cost of living in the county is very high.)
https://dupagepolicyjournal.com/stories/511369206-public-employee-tally-bottom-25-counties-in-illinois
(FROM THE ARTICLE: DuPage is among the Illinois counties that employ the fewest government workers per capita, according to 2016 Illinois State Comptroller financial reports. State law requires local governments to self-report financial records each year, including the number of employees whose paychecks come from taxpayers. Employees per capita is calculated to compare staffs across cities and villages.)
