(FROM THE ARTICLE: The ordinance would require Chicago employers to post work schedules for their employees at least two weeks in advance. Employers would be required to pay their employees for at least one hour extra if the schedule changed or work was added or subtracted. Companies also could face fines of $500 for each employee affected in each pay period if they fail to comply. If employers make changes with 24 hours’ notice or less to on-call workers, the workers would have to be compensated. Companies with hourly employees or salaried workers earning less than $50,000 annually would be affected. That would sweep thousands of Chicago businesses under the new rules, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce says. I base my opinions on what I learned a) working for the federal government for almost 30 years — Post Office 1966-1969, IRS 1971-1980, and GAO 1980-1997, serving on the Executive Committee of the Association of Government Accountants Chicago Chapter 1983-1996, and being a union member while I worked for the Post Office and IRS; b) earning an MBA from Loyola in 1976, a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980, and a master’s degree in financial markets and trading from IIT in 1997; c) passing the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979 and passing the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt in 1981; c) serving as a Republican Precinct Committeeman since 1999, the GOPUSA Illinois Editor since 2000, the TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois Chairman 2005-2012, a member of the 2008 Illinois Republican Party (IRP) Platform and Resolutions Committee, a Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee member 2003-2011, the Milton Township Republican Central Committee webmaster 2008-2010 and 2000-2004, an Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee member 2003-2007, and an American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board member 2001-2004; d) attending the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016 IRP State Conventions as a delegate; e) being the subject of a nasty 4-page article in the February 1978 issue of Money Magazine; f) pursing litigation including Diersen v. GAO and Diersen v. Chicago Car Exchange; g) being married since 1978; h) living in Crete 1948-1972, in University Park 1972-1976, in Chicago 1976-1978, and in DuPage County, Milton Township, and Wheaton since 1978; and i) being baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran. (THE ARTICLE: I should write a book about registered voters in my precinct who cast Republican primary ballots, but a) talk and/or act like they are Democrats, Libertarians, or Greens; b) talk and/or act like they are filled with hatred of Trump; c) talk and/or act like they do not vote for candidates who are unopposed in Republican primaries; d) talk and/or act like they vote for Democrats in general elections, e) talk and/or act like they do not want me to bring any Republican literature to their door; f) say “take me off your list,” g) say “don’t bring anything to my home anymore,” and/or h) treat me rudely, if not threateningly. 112 voted in the March 20, 2018 Republican primary in my precinct, but in the unopposed races, 26 (23%) did not vote for Helland, 28 (25%) did not vote for Dodge, 22 (20%) did not vote for Roskam, 24 (21%) did not vote for Connelly, 29 (26%) did not vote for Ruscitti, 27 (24%) did not vote for Cronin, 28 (25%) did not vote for Hinds, 23 (21%) did not vote for Henry, 33 (29%) did not vote for Cantore, 32 (29%) did not vote Wilson, 32 (29%) did not vote for MacKay, and 31 (28%) did not vote for me. In the 2016 general election, in my precinct, only 137 voted for Trump while 211 voted for Clinton.)
