ILLINOIS FAMILY INSTITUTE
— Is White Privilege merely “Fake News?” – Oliver Perry (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that I have always benefited immensely from White Privilege. They hint/imply/argue/shout that were it not for White Privilege, I never would have gotten the jobs that I did doing yard work, delivering newspapers, washing dishes, cleaning golf shoes, chipping slag, pumping gasoline, delivering mail, working on an automobile assembly line, working as a security guard, selling tires, automotive services, and major appliances, collecting delinquent federal taxes, and auditing federal agencies. But wait, they demonize, denigrate, and condemn all the aforesaid jobs as being so “bad” a) that they themselves would never take those jobs and b) that no minority, no female, no younger person, and no veteran should ever have to take those jobs.)
https://illinoisfamily.org/education/white-privilege-merely-fake-news/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The White Privilege concept claims that white people have certain invisible advantages. These advantages might merely be the result of acquiring income, education, or a residence in “nice” neighborhood. A Department of Education study states that “Black students are suspended and expelled at a rate three times greater than white students.” But was the study covering disparities in just one school? Or were some data gathered from schools in peaceful communities and other data from schools serving as substitute gang battlegrounds? Again, all of the details matter. An important part of the White Privilege concept is that you can’t lose it, avoid it, or fix it. You’re guilty of racism just by living. This is important for activists, for guilty people are easily manipulated, and you’ll keep doing whatever the accusers ask for. Finally, the White Privilege concept creates its own definition of racism. The common definition of racism judges a person on their thoughts, words and deeds. The White Privilege version says that you’re guilty because the accuser doesn’t like how society is currently structured. These advocates are moving the goalposts to encourage a political and social reengineering of America. So what do we know about White Privilege? It was invented to push people into accepting a socialist or Marxist society. You are accused of being racist, but not for anything you did. There is no way for you to fix this so-called racism. Your only hope is to join your accusers and reshape society to their plans. That sounds like “fake news” to me. It is guilt inducing without cause. Throw it out.)

— What Trump’s latest H-1B move means for workers and business – Jackie Wattles and Parija Kavilanz (DIERSEN: Are/were you employed?  How strongly did/does your employer prefer employees who were citizens of foreign countries over citizens of America?)
http://money.cnn.com/2017/03/04/news/economy/h1b-visa-expedited-suspended-reaction/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: H-1B visas allow employers to bring in skilled foreign workers; about 85,000 will be given out this year. The visas are in high demand and given out by lottery. It can take six months or longer for an application to be reviewed. But the government announced Friday that, as of April 3, it will suspend the “premium processing” option, which ensures an application will be reviewed within 15 days. It costs $1,225. Trump has accused companies of abusing the H-1B program as a way to hire foreign workers who take jobs away from Americans, at lower salaries. The Trump administration says it’s doing away with quick-turn processing so it can sort through a large backlog of applications and try to “reduce overall H-1B processing times.”)

Overwhelmingly, anti-Trumps are also anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, anti-draft avoiders, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors.  I was baptized, raised, and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran and I am conservative, Republican, American, White, male, older (68), non-poor, a gun owner, 100% German American, a draft avoider, and my ancestors have been in America since 1844.  Ever-increasingly, anti-Trumps talk and act like they are going to get rid of Trump supporters like me.)

BRADENTON HERALD
— Progressives wants to silence foes – PATRICK NEYLAN, BRADENTON
http://www.bradenton.com/opinion/letters-to-the-editor/article136275133.html
(FROM THJE LETTER: After four years of national malaise, conservatives were devastated by the presidential election results of 2012 even though they recaptured the House and Senate. While this was a definite setback for Democrats, the incumbent president defiantly declared he had a phone and a pen to enact his vision for America. The progressive reaction to the presidential election of 2016 is something to behold. Unlike conservatives, they destroy property, hold hate rallies, and spread a blizzard of lies, vulgar invective and fake news. The left wants to silence or destroy anyone who doesn’t fit in. They use terms such as the subject is settled, the discussion is over or the subject is not politically correct. This helps their lemmings avoid the headache of independent thought or objective inquiry. The national debt is never mentioned because it might cause the naïve to realize that America cannot afford the benefits that we currently enjoy. World-citizen progressives lobby for open borders and amnesty; this will provide excellent competition for the race to the bottom in jobs, wages and benefits, etc. Progressives’ idea of multiculturalism supports anti-western cultures and laws which document (in writing) a terrible human rights and antidemocratic record. They call it diversity. Qualified conservative professionals have about a one in 14 chance of gaining employment in the news media or academia. Does that sound democratic to you? Before this bias destroys America, laws like Equal Employment Opportunity must be passed. Perhaps readers will notice that world-citizen progressives avoid addressing the economy, existing unenforced laws, patriotism, borders, security, debt control and time-honored ethics, etc. What do they really have in mind, not even their lemmings know?)

http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20170302/discuss/170309695/
(FROM THE LETTER: Each year it seems that gambling becomes more pervasive. In Illinois, video gambling sites have increased significantly in the past 18 months, and there is serious discussion about expanding the number of casinos. For most people gambling is entertaining, but for the problem gambler it can eventually lead to the loss of a home, job, family and friends. Common signs of a problem gambler often include lying to your partner about where you’ve been and how you’ve spent your money; lost sleep due to gambling stress and anxiety; reducing time one spends with family and work to gamble; feeling guilty about gambling; trying to cut back in gambling without success. Gambling disorders are treatable, but professional help is needed. Renz Addiction Counseling Center is offering free gambling assessments throughout 2017 and free treatment during National problem Gambling Awareness Month this March at our Two American Way location in Elgin. For more information on Renz Center’s problem gambling services, visit www.RenzCenter.org or call the Center at (847) 742-3545.)

ILLINOIS TIMES
— The vanishing Statehouse press corps  In an era of mainstream news cutbacks, ideological media step in – Tara McClellan McAndrew  (DIERSEN: Since 2000, your GOPUSA Illinois Editor has increasingly stepped in a) to counter the media’s ever-increasingly pro-Democrat slant and b) to fill Republican communication voids.)
http://illinoistimes.com/article-18344-the-vanishing-statehouse-press-corps.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As mainstream coverage of government has decreased, new media have risen to fill the void. According to the Pew’s 2014 study, there was a boom across the nation in “ideological” organizations covering state government after the Great Recession. That includes outlets funded by politicians or partisan groups which can be designed to look like mainstream media. A couple examples are the Illinois Policy Institute and Local Government Information Services, which have links to the Republican Party. Currently, there are no known media outlets covering Illinois government that have ties to other parties. In 2015, the Illinois Policy Institute, which already ran Illinois News Network, purchased Illinois Radio Network. It covers state government, among other topics. In 2013 and 2014, the Institute’s Illinois News Network tried to get press credentials from the Illinois House of Representatives and the Illinois Senate, but was denied because of its relationship to a partisan, lobbying group – the Institute. The Institute sued and took its case all of the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, but lost. State Journal-Register reporter Bernard Schoenburg has written several columns about Republican ties to the Institute and Local Government Information Services, including donations Governor Bruce Rauner made to both groups, totaling at least $3 million. Local Government Information Services has online websites with articles about communities around the state. One called the Sangamon Sun covers the Springfield area. On Feb. 13, its headline was: “State Comptroller Mendoza added to BossMadigan.com,” referring to an Illinois Republican Party site. Some ideological media, like the Illinois News Network, make their audio and articles available for free. In an Oct. 7, 2015, column, Schoenburg wrote: “Any of those papers or stations using that content and not clearly identifying the source as the Illinois Policy Institute are doing a disservice to their readers and listeners.” Free content is very attractive to small radio stations or newspapers with limited staff and budgets, Wheeler says. “Having fewer Statehouse reporters and fewer independent, unbiased sources of news committed to the consistent practices of journalism will make it easier for the folks who are peddling the slant to have their stuff accepted and used.” In a democracy, media have an important task, Wheeler adds, especially at a time when the federal government is making many decisions that could affect the responsibilities of state governments. “The First Amendment wasn’t created with the idea that we have to help people who are going to be running newspapers to make a lot of money.” As one Statehouse reporter I talked to put it: “Somebody has to cover the news!”)

If an employer does not use E-Verify, a) it shouts that it wants cheap labor, b) it shouts that it hires and exploits illegals, c) it shouts that it despises if not hates American workers, d) it shouts that it encourages people to come to America illegally, e) it shouts that it encourages people to stay in America illegally, and f) it shouts that it encourages people to bring other people to America illegally.)
http://www.fairus.org/issue/the-impact-of-new-and-expanded-e-verify-measures-on-unemployment-rates-since-the-great-recession
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Congress created E-Verify in 1996, and launched the program in 1997, to assist employers in verifying new employees’ eligibility to work in the United States. The stated goal is to provide fast and reliable verification by comparing an employee’s I-9 form to U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration databases.(1)
Though easy to use and accessible to all employers, participation in the E-Verify program is not required by federal law. However, the 2011 Supreme Court case Chamber of Commerce v Whiting affirmed that states may constitutionally pass legislation requiring some or all employers within their jurisdiction to use E-Verify. Unfortunately, most states have left its use optional, or only require certain employers to use the program.(2) Does E-Verify Work? The E-Verify program protects job opportunities for American workers by ensuring that employers using the program only hire individuals who are authorized by the federal government to work in the United States. Opponents of E-Verify often claim, however, that the program’s 99.7 percent verification accuracy rate isn’t reliable enough and assert that any false-positive returns will remain uncorrected, even when appealed.(3) Some opponents go as far as to argue that requiring widespread usage of the program will result in increased unemployment rates. To determine whether state E-Verify laws impact job markets after their implementation, this report examines the U-6 unemployment rate(4) in states one year after instituting or expanding E-Verify requirements. The U-6 unemployment rate includes discouraged job-seekers who have stopped searching for employment and those who are working part time for purely economic reasons – as opposed to those who may be working part time by choice.)

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/03/03/illinois-congressman-uses-derogatory-term-when-describing-raucous-town-halls.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “While there was no malicious intent, I regret that my words may have distracted from an important point,” Bost said. “When the booing and shouting drowns out the conversation we’re trying to have with our constituents, it becomes that much harder to govern.” Some Republicans in Congress have participated in rowdy town halls in which crowds have expressed concerns about President Donald Trump’s policies. A few, like Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz, have been shouted down and booed. Bost described the town halls as “out of control, which means you don’t actually get to talk to people and listen, and we’re looking for ways to do that.” In an editorial, the Southern Illinoisan noted that the people of his district want to have their voices heard, and doing it over the phone or the internet just won’t do. It went on to say, “It is part of his job description to, from time to time, take the heat. A leader should not be reluctant to meet with his constituents personally.”)

WALL STREET JOURNAL
— Journalists Demand Access, but Sometimes They’re Selective   An Illinois reporter Scott Reeder lost his press credential when he left the legacy media to work for a nonprofit. – JACOB HUEBERT
https://www.wsj.com/articles/journalists-demand-access-but-sometimes-theyre-selective-1488498959
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The national press was outraged after reporters from CNN, the New York Times, Politico, BuzzFeed and the Los Angeles Times were kept out of an off-camera White House press briefing last week. CNN anchor Jake Tapper called the action “un-American.” Washington Post executive editor Marty Baron said it was “appalling” and “undemocratic.” National Press Club president Jeffrey Ballou labeled the exclusion “deeply disturbing and completely unacceptable.” Their concerns are valid: Government officials can silence critics by picking and choosing who gets access. But few have noted that the Trump administration’s actions are far from unprecedented. Similar scenes have played out at all levels of government and media, yet the press rarely object so vociferously. Worse, mainstream outlets sometimes are complicit in helping the government limit the access of other journalists. A prime example comes from Illinois. As an attorney for the Liberty Justice Center, I represented a veteran journalist who was denied statehouse press credentials in Springfield. Scott Reeder had been a reporter and editor for more than 25 years. He spent the first 20 years of his career at newspapers in Texas, Nevada and Illinois, racking up journalism awards along the way. He became a well-known fixture in the Illinois Capitol. Then he decided to start a statehouse news service to keep doing the same work he had always done. Joining with the Illinois Policy Institute, a government watchdog organization, Mr. Reeder planned to launch his new venture in 2013. But when he applied for statehouse press credentials, Mr. Reeder got the cold shoulder from lawmakers who decide which outlets can cover them. Mr. Reeder was a tough reporter, ruffling feathers of politicians on both sides of the aisle—as journalists should—and his application was denied because of his association with the institute. Officials determined that under the legislature’s rules Mr. Reeder was no longer entitled to a pass because the institute was registered as a lobbyist and wasn’t “primarily” engaged in news reporting. But the legislature never excluded reporters from for-profit newspapers simply because their parent companies lobbied and engaged in other businesses besides news. The Chicago Tribune had no trouble getting credentials when its then-owner, the Tribune Co., hired a firm to lobby on its behalf and operated businesses unrelated to news, such as the Chicago Cubs. We challenged Mr. Reeder’s exclusion from the press gallery on First Amendment grounds. The courts declined to consider the claim, holding that “absolute legislative immunity” precludes lawsuits over credentialing decisions. The precedent was a 1975 case involving access to the congressional press galleries. In 1972 the Standing Committee of Correspondents had voted to exclude writers from Consumer Reports because the magazine was published by a nonprofit advocacy group rather than a traditional news organization. The publisher sued. A federal judge ruled that the exclusion violated the First Amendment, which prohibits the government from arbitrarily keeping reporters out of press facilities based on who employs them or the ideas they advocate. But the decision was overturned on appeal. The judges held they could not interfere with the internal operations of Congress, even to vindicate the First Amendment. In the Consumer Reports case, it was journalists who made the decision to exclude. The Standing Committee, to which Congress delegates authority over credentials, is composed of journalists from traditional news organizations (including, in some years, The Wall Street Journal). As for Mr. Reeder, he got little support from fellow reporters. Some even published articles attempting to delegitimize his work because he was no longer employed by a legacy media outlet. The White House has not always provided equal access either. In 2009 the Obama administration tried to exclude Fox News reporters from a round of interviews with a Treasury official. A top White House staffer had recently described Fox as “not really a news station.” In that case, other media organizations lined up behind Fox, and the White House eventually relented. But the incident didn’t get nearly as much attention as last week’s brouhaha. It’s good that the media united in objection to the Trump administration last week. Perhaps the incident will serve as an important civics lesson about the dangers of the government granting special privileges to select media outlets. Here’s to hoping the media will continue to advocate equal access, just as forcefully as they are now, for journalists of all stripes covering all levels of government.)

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2017/03/welcome_to_the_real_world_federal_bureaucrats.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A specter haunts Washington, D.C.: federal workers, accustomed to job security, may actually be reduced in status to the level of private-sector peasants, who must live with the possibility of being laid off due to workforce reductions.  The Washington Post, in many ways the trade paper of the government industry, shares the anxiety of its readership: “Federal workers are growing increasingly anxious at the prospect of massive budget cuts President Trump proposed this week that would pave the way for increased military spending. Employees who list endangered species, collect taxes and distribute aid to foreign countries are fearing for their livelihoods as they sift through rumors and wait to see whether their offices will be targeted for steep reductions.”  Those of us who work in the private sector have never had the job security of a federal employee.  And few of us have the retirement benefits they enjoy, so we have the constant issue of providing for ourselves beyond our working years.  Frankly, it is a lot of stress, and I find that in my case, at least, it provides quite a lot of motivation for hard work.  After all, I have no rich Uncle Sam to rely on to keep money coming in to pay for the groceries, much less fund an extended vacation called “retirement.” Ordinarily, in the rare case of a government agency reducing its workforce, attrition is relied upon.  Deaths and retirements (and hardly ever firing for cause) automatically reduce the number of working bodies in a large organization.  If you don’t bring in replacements, the workforce declines in number.)

FED SMITH
— Congress Considering Change in Calculating retiree COLAs – Michael Wald  (DIERSEN: The purchasing power of my $50,856 Civil Service Retirement System pension and my $2,028 Social Security decreases dramatically each year as inflation is far greater than COLAs.)
http://www.fedsmith.com/2017/03/01/congress-considering-change-in-calculating-retiree-benefit-increases/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Congressman John Garamendi (D-Modesto, CA) has introduced the CPI-E Act of 2017 (H.R. 1251). The bill would require the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) methodology to use CPI-E as opposed to the currently used CPI-W when calculating changes in retiree benefits for both Social Security recipients and annuities provided under the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). “The fact that we do not do this already is shocking. Instead, cost-of-living adjustments, or COLAs, for seniors collecting Social Security and those retired from the military or federal service, are based on the costs experienced by, quote: urban wage earners and clerical workers. They are not based on the costs that they – as elderly individuals – experience. And that doesn’t make a lot of sense,” stated Richard Thissen, president of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE). Retirees began receiving automatic annual COLAs in 1975. When Congress first approved automatic cost-of-living adjustments as part of the 1972 Social Security Amendments, the only Consumer Price Index available was the index now designated as CPI-W. Before that, benefits were increased only when Congress enacted special legislation.)

Robert Blackwell Jr., a Chicago entrepreneur and friend and supporter of President Barack Obama, says his daughter stayed home. While the school took some heat from conservative parents who thought the curriculum leaned too far left, Blackwell worried the content just wasn’t appropriate. He lives on the South Side and his daughter lives on the North Shore with her mom. Blackwell said negative images were being reinforced, and he pointed to a session called “Blackenomics 101,” based on a rap song that uses the N-word. “This session tells white teenagers that blacks need to express themselves through vulgarity and violence,” he said. Blackwell is chairman of EKI-Digital, which helps companies monetize technology investments, and he’a chairman of Killerspin table-tennis company. Keynote speakers were Colson Whitehead, who wrote “The Underground Railroad,” and Andrew Aydin, who with U.S. Rep. John Lewis, co-authored “March.”)

(FROM THEARTICLE: The study’s claim ignores much of its own data.  Its data clearly suggests the salary gap is because female journalists are, on average, six years younger than their male colleagues, and have 5.3 less years of work experience. They are also less likely to work full time and hold management positions. . .The study did find the average after-tax income of a male journalist in the country is $55,552, while the average female journalist earns $44,104. http://www.chicagobusiness.com/realestate/20170228/CRED0701/170229891
(FROM THE ARTICLE: ON ENDANGERED BUILDINGS WATCHLIST  Constructed in 1897, the red brick mansion on the site is now attached to a chapel and the dormitory, both of which were built by the nuns’ order after they took ownership of the property in 1946. The mansion was one of 12 built by original members of Chicago Golf, the Wheaton club that in 1894 built what is now the oldest 18-hole golf course in North America. Illinois Steel president Jay C. Morse built the house for his daughter, Carolyn Morse Ely, and her husband, Arthur Ely, at about the time their marriage was breaking up. It was one of several mansions architect Jarvis Hunt designed for Chicago Golf members. Hunt also designed the course’s clubhouse, which faces the old Ely house across about a half-mile of lawn. Jarvis Hunt’s other buildings included one at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Jackson Park, and railroad stations in several cities. For Kansas City, Hunt designed the 900-room Union Station. Wheaton has no landmarks ordinances that prevent demolition of the convent’s building, said Michael Dzugan, the city manager. “The developer at this point is not interested in restoring the historic structure,” Dzugan said, “so that’s where we’re at with it.” A few weeks ago, Pulte announced it would give the building to anyone wiling to move it, “but nobody has spoken up, as far as I know,” Dzugan said. Wheaton resident Jean Follett said the lack of ordinances protecting the house is “an excuse. People in Wheaton have known the building was threatened since 2009, and have been saying they want it preserved” she said. In 2009, Landmarks Illinois, the historic-buildings advocacy group, included the historical Chicago Golf houses, including the convent, on its Watch List of endangered buildings. “The city could have done something about it any time since 2009,” said Follett, a former Landmarks Illinois board member. Landmarks has sent two letters in recent months to Wheaton officials, urging the city to require Pulte to reuse the mansion. It could house several condos, a park district recreation center, or both, both Follett and the Casas said.)

During that time, and especially after 1988, Republican politicians pushed for and got massive budget and staff cuts at GAO.  Because I was virtually the only non-veteran White male Republican in GAO’s Chicago office, my Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates in GAO’s Chicago office took their anger against Republican politicians like Newt Gingrich out on me.  Prior to 1988, they forced me to take an $18,847 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980, they kept me off audits of IRS 1980-1985, and they did not promote me beyond GS-13. After 1988, they kept me off audits of IRS, they did not promote be beyond GS-13, they always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, and they forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old.)

— ROGUE ADMINISTRATIVE STATE NEEDS TO GO ONCE AND FOR ALL – Kent Kellar  (DIERSEN: What about stopping patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation for complaining about the aforesaid? GAO hired me in 1980 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, younger person, or veteran who would take the job.  IRS hired me in 1971 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, or veteran who would take the job.  The Post Office hired me in 1966 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, or veteran who would take the job.)
http://conservativerepublicannews.com/2017/02/27/rogue-administrative-state-needs-to-go-once-and-for-all/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Part of the problem is former President Barack Obama changed civil service rules to make it easier to hire federal employees. Trump has solved that by initiating his hiring freeze. But federal rules also make it extremely difficult to fire civil servants. It is a process that can take up to two years, even when there is cause. That said, problem employees who, say, don’t show up for work should be dealt with through this process immediately. But to do more requires Congress to step in, which can assist this process three-fold: 1) By incentivizing early retirement via the appropriations process with limited-time-only buy-outs; 2) cutting the personnel budgets of non-defense civilian departments and agencies, reducing the enacted full-time equivalent number for each department, agency and office by 10 to 20 percent in the workforce on a last-one-in, first-one-out basis; and 3) defunding existing preferences under federal rules being given to those laid off being later rehired on a first-in-line basis. That would eliminate politicized Obama administration holdovers, and prevent them from being rehired should it become necessary to fill in some gaps. Other ideas include eliminating automatic dues deduction for federal employees unions and getting rid of any full-time official time union personnel.)

http://www.federaltimes.com/articles/former-border-patrol-heads-question-rush-to-accelerate-hiring
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A shared concern among those interviewed was that a rapid hiring initiative could pose logistical issues and result in a compromised vetting stage. “When you speed up the process and don’t take the requisite time, you pay a price later in things like corruption,” said Gil Kerlikowske, CBP head for three years under President Barack Obama. During the post-9/11 manpower push, which doubled CBP border patrol agents from 10,000 to 20,000 by 2008, internal corruption cases increased to the point the Anti-Border Corruption Act of 2010 was passed, making polygraph testing mandatory for all border patrol agents. Rauner Says He’s Working With White House To Curb Violence – Derrick Blakley  (DIERSEN: Yes, but what about also working with the White House to create good jobs in Illinois; to end the promotion of dependency on government and on charity in Illinois; to end sanctuary cities in Illinois; to send the illegals in Illinois back to their motherlands; to end abortion in Illinois; to end the promotion of LGBTQ activity in Illinois, that is, end the destruction of the traditional family in Illinois; to end the promotion of vices in Illinois including booze, pot, and gambling; to end patronage in Illinois, that is, end political affiliation discrimination in Illinois; to end race and gender based preference giving in Illinois, that is, end reverse discrimination in Illinois; to end age discrimination in Illinois; to end further erosion of the Second Amendment in Illinois; etc.?)
http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2017/02/27/gov-rauner-says-hes-working-with-white-house-on-violence-in-illinois/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Gov. Bruce Rauner contends he’s working with the Trump White House to attack crime in Illinois.  Just who he’s working with he won’t say, and Rauner continues to try to distance himself from the new administration. CBS 2 Political Reporter Derrick Blakley has more. President Trump met with at least 46 of the nation’s governor’s today, fellow Republican Rauner wasn’t there. Rauner returned to Chicago Sunday night, after spending the weekend huddling with other Republican governors. “I have personally been in communication with members of the Trump administration on the violence issue — the folks who are developing the policy,” he says. Unclear is what policy that is. Rauner would not elaborate, nor say who he met from the Trump administration. What’s clear is Rauner still hasn’t met with President Trump, unlike Mayor Rahm Emanuel and a host of other governors. Because he wasn’t with Trump on Monday, Rauner missed another trump verbal barrage directed at the state’s biggest city. It’s no secret Rauner is not exactly fond of the president. He didn’t endorse him, skipped the inauguration, and refuses to even use the words “President” and “Trump” together. It’s fair to ask if avoiding Trump is helping Rauner. A new poll shows Rauner losing in 2018, to an un-named generic Democrat by about 15 points.)

ILLINOIS REVIEW
— RAUNER’S BOYCOTT OF WHITE HOUSE EVENT DOESN’T SET WELL WITH TRUMP SUPPORTERS
http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2017/02/rauner-.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Governor Rauner’s actions were noticed by Macoupin County’s GOP Chairman Terri Koyne, who said Rauner not attending the White House event was disrespectful, but not surprising. “Trump won Illinois in the Primary election – the Republican voters spoke,” she told Illinois Review. “If Rauner chooses to disrespect the voters, that is his choice.” In Koyne’s Macoupin County, more votes were cast for Trump in the General Election than any other presidential candidate – Republican or Democrat – in decades. “It seems by his actions that counties like mine don’t matter to the governor in his re-election strategy,” Koyne said. “It will be interesting to see if Rauner can help the lower offices in their races in Central/Southern Illinois in the next election as much as Trump did in this past election.” To be noted, those statewide races in November where GOP candidates were more closely aligned with Rauner than Trump didn’t turn out so well.)

WORLD NET DAILY
— ‘CENTURIES OF RELIGIOUS CONFLICT’ NOW ON U.S. SOIL ‘To leave would be like giving up on our Constitution’ – LEO HOHMANN  (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, Democrats make it clear that if you do not promote Islam, they will get rid of you.)
http://www.wnd.com/2017/02/centuries-of-religious-conflict-now-on-u-s-soil/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: After the Sterling Heights City Council agreed to settle a lawsuit with the U.S. Justice Department and allow a third mosque to be built in the city, this time right in the midst of a neighborhood populated by Christian refugees who escaped persecution from Islam, some residents said they planned to move out of the city. Sterling Heights, Michigan, is home to the nation’s second largest community of Chaldean and Assyrian Christians, many of them coming directly from Iraq where their families were the victims of a genocide by ISIS, al-Qaida and other Islamic militants over the past 50 years. While understandable, picking up and moving in the wake of a mosque approval is exactly the wrong response, say Michigan activists. “This is our city and our country and our community,” said Tom Mitchell, a 52-year resident of Sterling Heights who says the council’s vote gave him renewed determination to help support his Chaldean neighbors. “To leave would be like giving up on our Constitution, giving up to a culture that doesn’t believe in our Constitution and our laws. I tell people to stick it out, get more active but don’t move out.” Mitchell is a former member of the Army’s 82nd Airborne unit. “I never surrender. I’m a veteran,” he said. “God, family, country, that’s where I stand.” But real-estate transactions are often a fact of life when a mosque gets built in a previously non-Muslim area. The newly released book, “Stealth Invasion,” documents homes being snatched up by Middle-Eastern buyers in certain neighborhoods of Idaho and Minnesota after the U.S. State Department began sending heavy numbers of Islamic refugees to those areas. The same trend has been seen in Warren, which borders Sterling Heights in Macomb County, Michigan.)

JOURNAL COURIER
— Disappearing company towns search for identity – AP
http://myjournalcourier.com/news/106230/disappearing-company-towns-search-for-identity
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis planned to open this year’s State of the City speech by thanking Caterpillar Inc. for its longtime commitment to the central Illinois town, declaring “We wouldn’t be Peoria without Caterpillar.”  It’s been that way for decades in Peoria and in other company towns across the United States. A major employer provided generations of locals with jobs and gave the cities a central identity, while executives helped keep cultural institutions, Rotary clubs and higher-end housing markets healthy. Now many of those midsize communities are looking for a new identity as more companies trade their longtime hometowns for major cities with easier access to global markets and to the lifestyle talented young workers want, with public transit, nightlife and trendy restaurants. Caterpillar’s recent decision to move 300 top headquarters jobs to the Chicago area made Peoria the latest city with a vacuum to fill. In 2014, Decatur lost Archer Daniels Midland’s headquarters to Chicago after 40 years in the town. ConAgra Foods moved 1,000 jobs last year from Omaha to Chicago.)

http://www.beloitdailynews.com/article/20170224/AP/302249938
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republican governors who face re-election next year in states that voted for Clinton are Charlie Baker of Massachusetts, Larry Hogan of Maryland, Bruce Rauner of Illinois, Phil Scott of Vermont and Chris Sununu of New Hampshire. Four other states that voted for Clinton have governors who will be forced out by term limits: Chris Christie in New Jersey; Paul LePage in Maine; Susana Martinez in New Mexico; and Brian Sandoval in Nevada. . .As with the other governors, Rauner in Illinois said he is focusing on his state — or at least he’s trying to. He went to great lengths not to stake a clear position on Trump during the campaign — refusing to comment on the race, who he was voting for or even to say Trump’s name. Since the election, he has continued to avoid taking a clear position on the administration’s policies. His strategy is clearly intended to avoid alienating voters in Chicago, the suburbs and other urban areas who supported Hillary Clinton in November, or those in rural counties that went overwhelmingly for Trump. But avoidance also comes with some peril: Democrats, who control the Illinois Legislature, called the Republican governor cowardly for meeting with billionaire donors out of state while refugees were stranded at Chicago’s O’Hare airport after the president’s travel-banning executive order. Rauner already has a slim margin for error after a two-year budget stalemate has tanked his approval ratings.)

REAL CLEAR POLITICS
— Illinois exit: Time to Pull the Plug on a Failed State – Tom Bevan  (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, the Democrats who run Illinois make it clear that they want individuals, organizations, and companies that are a member of one or more of the following groups TO LEAVE ILLINOIS IMMEDIATELY: Trump supporter, Protestant, conservative, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, draft avoider, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2017/02/24/ilexit_time_to_pull_the_plug_on_a_failed_state_133181.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois is a different story. I’ve spent most of my adult life here; for more than 25 years I’ve called Chicagoland home. I started a business and raised my family here. But the more I’ve watched the city of Chicago and the state flail about in the last few years, unable to protect its citizens and unwilling to put its fiscal house in order, the more convinced I’ve become that maybe it’s time for Illinois to leave the Union – as a favor to the rest of America. I’m joking about “ILexit,” but less than you might think. In the city of Chicago, the carnage – and, yes, I use that Trumpian phrase on purpose – continues unabated.  Six people were shot dead on Wednesday, including a pregnant woman in her 20s, making it the deadliest single day in the city since eight people were killed on Christmas.  So far this year, homicides are outpacing last year’s obscene total of 762, a 55 percent increase from 2015 and the highest number of murders the city has seen since 1996. Decades of mismanagement, lavish spending programs, and kowtowing to public employee unions have left the city’s finances in shambles. Taxes and fees in the city are skyrocketing, while its bond status has been reduced to junk. Despite all this, voters have continued to reward just one party with power. Democrats have run the city of Chicago since before Franklin Roosevelt was president. Outside of Chicago, things are no better, even if they’re a bit more bipartisan. Of Illinois’ last four governors, two (Republican George Ryan and Democrat Rod Blagojevich) went to prison. (Two others, Otto Kerner and Dan Walker, both Democrats, also spent time in the slammer.))

POLITICO
— Chief digital officer Gerrit Lansing steps down from White House job over background check – TARA PALMERI and DANIEL LIPPMAN (DIERSEN: Can you past a background check?  I did in 1966 for my Post Office job, in 1971 for my IRS job, and in 1980 for my GAO job.  Many millions do not seek jobs with the federal government because they know that they cannot pass a background check.  I wonder how many of my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in DuPage County, and in Illinois cannot pass a pack ground check.  I wonder how many of them employ/employed illegals.  I wonder how many of them use/used illegal drugs.)
http://www.politico.com/blogs/donald-trump-administration/2017/02/gerrit-lansing-trump-digital-chief-ousted-235268
(FROM THE ARTICLE: White House Chief Digital Officer Gerrit Lansing was among the six staffers who were dismissed from the White House last week after being unable to pass an FBI background check, according to sources. A source close to Lansing said the issue with the background check was over investments. Lansing previously led the digital department for the Republican National Committee. The background check, security questionnaire SF86, must be completed by White House staffers for positions that cover national security. President Donald Trump’s director of scheduling, Caroline Wiles, was also among the six staffers who did not pass the intensive FBI screening. She is the daughter of Susan Wiles, Trump’s Florida campaign director. Caroline Wiles resigned Friday before the background check was completed. She was appointed deputy assistant secretary before the inauguration in January. Two sources close to Wiles said she will get another job in the Treasury Department. Lansing left Feb. 9; his official file says he left on his accord. The intensive background check includes questions on the applicant’s credit score, substance use and other personal subjects.)
