— CEO in new book tells workers to take the long view of a career – Rex Huppke  (DIERSEN: When you were younger, did you “take the long view” of your career?  I sought and accepted three job offers from federal agencies – the Post Office in 1966 when I was 18 years old, IRS in 1971, and GAO in 1980.  One could argue that if I really wanted to have a successful career in the federal government, that is, GS-13 ($92,632) by age 25, GS-14 ($109,463) by age 30, GS-15 ($128,759) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service ($160,300) by age 40, a) I would have become a Democrat and b) I would have helped my superiors get rid of their employees who are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— ALL OF THE FRONT PAGE: Their property-tax bills? Zero – Tim Novak
http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/the-watchdogs-their-property-tax-bills-zero/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: They are among 4,188 senior citizens across Chicago who didn’t have to pay property taxes on their homes this year, a Chicago Sun-Times analysis of more than 880,000 tax bills and property assessments in the city has found. The tax breaks those seniors got meant higher taxes for everyone else, shifting $9.6 million in property taxes to other homeowners and businesses, most of whom have been socked with soaring tax bills this year caused by a combination of new, higher property values set by Cook County Assessor Joseph Berrios and Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s tax hike to fund pensions for police and firefighters. Another 1,692 seniors living in the Cook County suburbs also received tax bills showing they owed no taxes on their homes this year, the Sun-Times found. It’s difficult to determine how much those breaks cost others in those suburbs since tax rates vary by community and school district. All of these seniors are benefiting from a program called the senior citizen assessment freeze, which the state of Illinois created two decades ago as a lifeline for older people who feared they’d be forced out of their homes when their neighborhoods became hot and real estate taxes skyrocketed. Under the program, the longer seniors stay in their homes, the more they can save on their property taxes, often ending up paying nothing at all.)
— Illinois public schools chiefs mostly men’s club – Katie Drews  (DIERSEN: Illinois public schools should consider bringing in Charles Bowsher.  During the 1980s and 1990s, Bowsher had great success in getting rid of GAO’s employees who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)

DAILY HERALD
— Labor Day’s become a day off rather than a holiday – Editorial  (DIERSEN: What is your connection with unions?  Virtually all my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes are vehemently anti-union, if not union haters. They stress that I was a union member for almost 12 years, that unions helped me win grievances against the Post Office and IRS, that I might still be a GAO employee if GAO had been unionized in 1997, and that I have only bought cars that were built by union members.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20160903/discuss/160909619/
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: Labor Day was born, in large measure, as so many things seem to be in the United States, as a political favor granted to a special interest group. The national holiday was approved unanimously by Congress in 1894 and signed into law by President Grover Cleveland at least in part to reach out to trade unions following the bitter and bloody Pullman Strike of that year. Did the politicians of that time feel a genuine allegiance to unions? Many did, so we don’t want to get too cynical here. And the holiday without question was a sincere tribute by a large number to the achievements the labor movement had made on behalf of the worker. But there was a benefit for politicians who backed it — support from unions that were growing in strength. And a benefit for the unions — annual promotional branding in parades and celebrations across America. The holiday’s roots in the organized labor movement actually extended back a dozen years earlier when a more parochial version of it was celebrated in New York at the behest of the Central Labor Union. Is it still viewed largely as a tribute to union workers and the benefits generated by the American labor movement? Well, it no doubt is if you live in a union household. But the holiday has evolved to have a generalized meaning that is considerably more vague.)

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/04/opinion/sunday/a-bold-attempt-to-redefine-dissidence-in-cuba.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “Dissident” is a loaded word in Cuba, a label used to discredit and punish. Those who have embraced the term can be shut out of public jobs and are often subjected to arbitrary detentions and beatings. This year, with expectations reset by the normalization of relations between Cuba and the United States, Luis Manuel Otero and Yanelis Nuñez Leyva, a couple in Havana, figured it was time to redefine what it means to be a dissident. They created the Museum of Dissidence in Cuba, a website that chronicles the long line of people who have stood in opposition to the government throughout history. Among the dissidents they feature are President Raúl Castro and his brother, Fidel, who took power through an armed revolt, along with prominent leaders of modern opposition groups, who have been suppressed by the Cuban government. The project carries an implicit message: The current ruling class, which seems so rigidly entrenched, will most likely be replaced one day.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: According to career coaches, recruiters and other experts, it takes a fair amount of sleuthing to get the scoop on what a company’s really like to work for, including researching potential employers’ financials, reputation and hiring practices and talking to current and former employees and managers. “Watch, look, and listen to the people already there,” advises career coach Paula Gregorowicz of The Paula G. Co. “Is there a vibe of adrenaline and intense pressure? What do they expect of you in terms of availability?” she suggests asking. “Few people on their deathbed wish they spent more time at work. Choose wisely according to your personal values and when an employer shows you what they are like, believe them.” Here are other suggestions for uncovering a prospective employer’s true colors, from career experts and coaches, recruiters and company owners:)

BUSINESS 2 COMMUNITY
— The Marketing Tool That Will Help You Build The Best Teams – AJ Brustein  (DIERSEN: Democrats run the federal government.  If you want to “fit in” the “culture” as a federal employee, you need to be anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.  Of course, needless-to-say, I never “fit in” the federal employee “culture.”)
http://www.business2community.com/human-resources/marketing-tool-will-help-build-best-teams-01646841#mL7bml2eAlYyXdTU.97
(FROM THE ARTICLE: I want to ensure that every new teammate we have – on the field or in the office – is going to be a great fit and contribute to our success. The process of screening candidates is straightforward but sprinkled with pitfalls from illegal questions to picking the wrong conference room. But let’s take a step back and start with a quote from one of the world’s biggest recruiting firms, Robert Half. “No one can know for sure how someone will perform as an employee.” As obvious as that sounds, it is full of wisdom. Screening is more of an art than a science. The manager who best uses processes and data in their screening has a decidedly better shot at a successful outcome than the ‘play it by gut feel’ manager, but there are definitely no certainties in recruiting. That’s why most headhunters offer a 30-day guarantee. . .When hiring for an individual contributor, for example, having someone in the upper left-hand quadrant probably isn’t your aim. It will also depend on your company culture, the goals of the position, and the function for which you are hiring. An Outlaw, for example, would be a much better fit in Market Operations at Uber than in HR at Walmart. You can similarly map out managers, leaders, and even hire specific archetypes to build the culture in your organization. To help ground the Archetype map, please see the Pop Culture Cheat Sheet from Emily Bennett below.)

— Rauner fires 29 from patronage scandal under predecessors – AP (DIERSEN: Just like Jim Thompson and Jim Edgar, my Democrat superiors in the federal government rejected the Rutan decision.  My Democrat superiors in the federal government did not want to hire, to retain, or to promote Republicans, and especially Republicans like me who were conservative, White, male, and non-veteran. GAO hired me in 1980 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, younger person, or veteran who would take the job.  IRS hired me in 1971 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, or veteran who would take the job.  The Post Office hired me in 1966 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, or veteran who would take the job.)
http://www.fox32chicago.com/news/local/199081035-story
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The state’s inspector general found in 2014 that the politically connected hires should have been put into their positions based on merit. The high court ruling, known as “Rutan,” allows consideration of political loyalty in filling sensitive, policymaking positions or those involving confidential information or which require public statements. The inspector general’s investigation determined that IDOT often filled the jobs with politically connected candidates to perform tasks related to those functions, but they ended up doing routine jobs, such as answering phones and mowing lawns, and therefore the posts should have been open to anyone.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Democratic candidate for the 18th Congressional District blasted his Republican opponent Tuesday morning for using taxpayer money to promote his campaign. Junius Rodriguez said Republican U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood of from Dunlap committed “abuses of power” allowed by incumbency by opening a new office in Bloomington and sending a taxpayer-funded promotional mailer a few months before the election. He promised to introduce bills in Congress to eliminate both practices in the run-up to an election. While LaHood’s staff defended his opening of an office at 3004 General Electric Road in Bloomington on Monday as a way to improve constituent service, Rodriguez called it an example of LaHood using taxpayer money to promote his re-election campaign. “When a politician makes this type of decision just 10 weeks before a contested election, it is hard to view it as anything more than a crass political ploy to score points using the taxpayer’s dime,” he said Tuesday at a news conference at the McLean County Democratic headquarters in Bloomington.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: If you are just back — whether from an exotic vacation or an economical stay at home — welcome. You haven’t missed much. It won’t take long to bring you up to speed. So here it goes: Congress, which was gone when you left, is still away on one of its many extended 2016 breaks. Appropriations bills (again) have not been passed, so we will have the whole CR (continuing resolution) thing to deal with to avoid a government shutdown just before the election. Despite its dismal track record, experts predict that 90 percent of all incumbents — House, Senate, Democrats or Republicans — will be reelected, as per usual. If you are a white collar fed, a 1.6 percent pay raise is still on track. Congress could raise or lower it, but they probably won’t. With two months to go in the cost-of-living adjustment countdown, federal-military-Social Security retirees are looking at a very, very small COLA in January. The exact amount won’t be announced until mid-October. As of today, it stands at 0.23 percent. No new word on buyouts or early retirement offers. After four years in the works, the phased retirement program is up and running, in some places. So far, fewer than 100 feds have applied for the part-time mentoring program. Many workers say it’s not from lack of interest, but that their agencies aren’t offering it. Something else, what was it? Oh yes, the American public still hates you. Or at least has the most negative feelings toward the government of any other organization or profession. You rank even lower than lawyers and the media.)

— Out-of-work financial execs still feeling bite of economic crisis – Gail MarksJarvis
http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-searching-for-financial-jobs-0828-biz-20160825-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: About eight years after the financial crisis, the turmoil that began on Wall Street and then drifted into companies of all types has left the ranks of the unemployed and underemployed heavy with people who once enjoyed senior financial positions in a variety of industries. They face a sharply reduced market for the types of jobs they used to take for granted. Rosengard stated adamantly: “Banking is not a stable position.” Since the crash, she’s had well-paying short-term consulting positions and poor-paying temp work, but nothing like the security she used to have. Now, as she continues her search, “It’s like a twilight zone. You are either offered a position that has good pay, but a position way below your capabilities, or you are offered a top position with no pay.” Rosengard isn’t alone. She’s beginning to attend meetings of the Financial Executives Networking Group, or FENG, that are filled with people who’ve gone to premier MBA programs, guided companies through multimillion-dollar decisions, had titles like chief financial officer, treasurer and vice president of finance, and generally excelled at what they’ve done. At a recent downtown Chicago event in an Addison Group boardroom, Rosengard and 31 others exchanged job leads with one another and listened to a motivational speaker. “You aren’t getting recognized for your skills,” said the speaker, Conor Cunneen. “I know it’s a pain in the butt when you know you can do the job with your eyes closed, and they are going to give it to someone new at it, taking half the salary.” The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that there has been almost no recovery in the number of financial positions in Illinois since the financial crisis set off thousands of layoffs. During summer 2006, as the economy seemed strong and few worried about jobs, financial positions peaked at 335,100 in Illinois. But by March 2011, only 283,000 remained, and by June this year the numbers had improved only slightly to 295,200. Nationally, many of the 718,000 financial jobs that disappeared have returned, but commercial banking is still short more than 58,000 jobs. Positions in leasing and rental equipment are down 93,200. “Whatever the government says, the recession continues,” said Matt Bud, national chairman of FENG, which holds sessions like the Chicago meetup in cities throughout the country. About 50,000 out-of-work or underemployed executives are members nationwide.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Hillary Clinton has landed on a very personal counterpunch to what she says is Donald Trump’s checkered business past: her dad. As the Democratic presidential nominee works to undercut Trump’s economic record and promote her plans for small businesses, she is invoking memories of her late father’s Chicago drapery business. Recalling Hugh Rodham hard at work making and printing curtains for hotels and office buildings, Clinton argues that he would have been “stiffed” in a deal with the celebrity businessman. “He expected to be paid when he showed up,” Clinton said recently during an event in Warren, Michigan. “He did the work. He paid for the supplies and the labor he often hired to help him on big jobs. I can’t imagine what would have happened to my father and his business if he had gotten a contract from Trump.” With fuzzy memories of her father, Clinton hopes to remind voters that despite her years in public life that have left her a multimillionaire, she comes from a middle-class background and understands the life of a small-business owner. She also wants to contrast her biography with that of Trump, who was raised by a successful real estate developer and has drawn criticism for his treatment of small businesses during his career. Trump has promoted his business record as a key qualification for the White House. But Trump casinos failed on several occasions. When the Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey went bankrupt in the early 1990s, some contractors who worked on the property went under because Trump’s company didn’t pay what they were owed, according to interviews with The Associated Press. In a statement to the AP, Clinton said her father’s business gave her “a sense of responsibility,” adding that she was “living proof that a successful small business is at the core of the basic bargain in America, that if you work hard and do your part, you can make your own dreams and those of your children a reality.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Chairman TIM SCHNEIDER after Thursday’s ruling. “David Gill is a failed career politician who has been running for Congress for 12 years,” Schneider said. “Voters rejected him as a Democrat in 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2012. In 2014, disgraced former Governor PAT QUINN bribed Gill with a state job in exchange for not running. Feeling the itch to run for Congress a fifth time, Gill is now hoping to trick voters by running as an independent in 2016. David Gill is no independent; he is an extreme liberal who will clearly do or say anything to get elected.”)

From what I see, Holmberg would join my critics/opponents in demonizing me, in denigrating me, and in condemning me as someone who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and who has always been privileged.  Holmberg would stress the new cars and collector cars that I bought, the real estate that I bought, the college degrees, professional certifications, and professional license that I earned, the salary that I was paid, the money that I saved for retirement, the retirement benefits that I have, etc.  Holmberg would hint/imply/argue/shout that I got all of the aforesaid a) because I benefited tremendously from my parents’, from my grand parents’, from my great grand parents’, and from the rest of my ancestors’ racism, sexism, and bigotry; b) because I avoided the draft; and c) because my wife and gave up trying to have children, we did not adopt, and we did not become foster parents.)
https://chicagomaroon.com/2016/08/27/student-president-calls-free-speech-letter-messed-up/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Student Government President Eric Holmberg said in an interview that Dean John “Jay” Ellison’s letter condemning trigger warnings and intellectual safe spaces exploited a “false narrative” of coddled millennials for publicity. “It’s a messed up letter. I think the tone is condescending,” he told The Maroon. “The University is creating this threat of trigger warnings and safe spaces that really isn’t an active conversation on campus.”  Holmberg called the letter “hypocritical,” saying that the University hasn’t done its part to engage in challenging discourse with its students. He noted that activists have struggled to get administrators to attend their meetings. “Of anyone else on campus, the administration is far more fearful of challenge and discomfort than any student I know,” he said. “It’s ironic that during my time at the University of Chicago, administrators have continuously sought to create a comfortable space for themselves free of challenge by avoiding engagement with student leaders,” he said in a statement. “It’s a bit hypocritical, but I see why they’re doing it,” he said. “A couple of benefits: 1) Fundraising—I’m sure President Zimmer’s Op-Ed in the Wall Street Journal yesterday was good for polarizing around this topic and making it seem like it’s a big issue on campus. 2) It creates this specter of trigger warnings and safe spaces based on false narratives of coddled millennials. That doesn’t really exist. There hasn’t been organized activism around trigger warnings on campus.”)

http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/roger-ailes-opposition-research-gabriel-sherman/2016/08/26/id/745425/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Two years before Gabriel Sherman published his book about Roger Ailes, the now-former Fox News CEO amassed a 400-page dossier on the New York magazine editor seeking to discredit him and his work, according to news reports. “We always wondered why Ailes was so obsessed and paranoid about Gabe’s book,” a former Fox News reporter told CNN’s Brian Stelter. Sherman’s work — “The Loudest Voice in the Room” — was first published in January 2014. When reminded of the lawsuit filed last month by former Fox anchor Gretchen Carlson alleging sexual harassment that ultimately led to Alies’ subsequent resignation, the ex-reporter then said, “maybe we know why.” Ailes, 76, has denied Carlson’s accusations. He remains a Fox consultant through 2018. According to Stelter, the document was a book-length memo dated Jan. 5, 2012. He likened it to “opposition research” against an adversary in a political campaign.)

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/careers/the-future-of-work/job-candidates-checking-references-on-their-potential-employers/article31580806/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The difference this Labour Day is that the hiring dynamics are changing. Employers find, increasingly, that top prospects are checking their references. “They are very, very sophisticated job seekers now,” said Laura Williams, founder and principal of Williams HR Law and Williams HR Consulting Inc. of Markham, Ont. “Social media platforms, LinkedIn included, create opportunities to identify past employees of an organization. The trend I am seeing is that when people become viable candidates, they will do a search, find someone who worked there and call,” Ms. Williams said in an interview. “As an employer, you are vulnerable to any candidate learning about the real deal by just contacting someone who was there before.” Research by the professional networking site LinkedIn has found that the majority of its members are receptive to an approach from other employers but are unlikely to job hop without knowing “what it’s really like” to work there, said Julie Dossett, a marketing and communications specialist with LinkedIn Canada, which has more than 12.5 million members. There’s still movement, of course. “We are entering an age where loyalty is decreasing. In fact, while more than half of the workforce (67 per cent) say they are satisfied with their jobs, nearly a quarter (23 per cent) still see themselves leaving by the end of the year,” LinkedIn reported in its 2016 talent trends survey. There tends to be a lot more give and take in the interview process, especially when employees have the option of staying in their current jobs. Candidates want to know why the position is open, what happened to the previous person in the role, and what they can expect in terms of career advancement if they join the company, Ms. Dossett said in an interview. They want “honest and up-front” specifics of responsibilities and workload, and will press recruiters to describe “a realistic day in the life of a person in that job, good and bad.”)

http://fortune.com/2016/08/26/pet-industry/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: If you thought the love of your pet was priceless, the American Pet Products Association is here to prove you wrong. The APPA found that in 2016 U.S. pet owners are expected to spend $62.75 billion on their furry (or scaly) friends. That estimate is up about 4% from the $60.28 billion spent last year. In fact, total U.S. pet industry expenditures have gone up every single year that the association has collected this data, which it began doing in 1994. That first year, the industry was worth $17 billion. Of the $60.28 billion spent on pets in 2015, $23.05 billion was spent on food alone. Veterinary care was the next most expensive aspect of pet ownership, coming in at $15.42 billion. Supplies, like over the counter medicine, and services, including grooming and boarding, came out to $19.69 billion. Another $2.12 billion went toward “live animal purchases,” which generally means that an animal has been purchased as a pet, though a fraction are used as live feed. Excluding live animal purchases, each one of those categories is expected to grow this year. In the U.S. there are currently 312.1 million domesticated pets living in 129.8 million households. Cats and dogs are by far the most popular pets, with 75% of pet-owning households having at least one. However, cats and dogs are each outnumbered fish, which account for 105 million pets, more than a third of all the pets owned in the country. Cat and dog owners generally spend a good chunk of money on their pets each year. Tallying up veterinary care, food, treats, boarding, grooming, vitamins, and toys, it costs $1,641 per year to take care of a dog and $1,125 to take care of a cat.)

http://time.com/money/4468821/money-national-dog-day-pets/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In honor of National Dog Day, we asked MONEY staffers to divulge just how much they spend on their pooches. While we know you can’t put a price on a pup’s unconditional love, the bills do add up. This year, U.S. pet owners are expected to spend $62.75 billion on dogs and other furry, scaly, and feathered friends—a figure that has steadily increased each year, according to the American Pet Products Association. Puppy chow eats up the largest chunk of that total, with Americans expected to spend $23 billion on pet food. Trips to the vet are also costly, too, running pet owners a total of $15.42 billion in 2016. The essential expenses are only part of the total cost; there’s also grooming, boarding, vitamins, and Fido’s toys and treats. In total, the APPA estimates that man will spend $1,641 each year to take care of his best friend. There certainly are ways that you can cut back on pet spending without depriving your furry family member. Here are the best—and worst—money habits of MONEY’s favorite dogs.)

— WHEATON WOMAN NAMED CAREGIVER OF THE YEAR  (DIERSEN: I want to again thank Jim Flickinger for convincing Randy Hultgren and Peter Roskam to endorse me when I first ran for DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 9 Republican Committeeman in 2000.)
http://abc7chicago.com/health/wheaton-woman-named-caregiver-of-the-year/1486823/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A Wheaton woman is chosen among thousands as Brightstar Care’s Caregiver of the Year in the Midwest region. Elsa Salguero was surprised today by the home care agency and the family she works with. The family who nominated her says Salguero’s devotion to her patients is unequaled. “My ultimate goal every time I encounter my patients and clients is to always leave them better than what they are when you first encounter them. Walk out of the room knowing that you’ve done everything that you possibly could to leave them feeling loved and important,” she said.  Salguero was awarded a trophy, a cake and a sash.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— FRONT PAGE TOP OF FOLD HARDCOPY ARTICLE TITLE: University of Chicago Dean’s letter prompts backlash – Angie Leventis Lourgos  (DIERSEN: One would expect that the backlash would come from those who are anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors.)

— Abdul-Jabbar doesn’t shy from tough topics in Naperville appearance – David Sharos
http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/naperville-sun/ct-nvs-abdul-jabbar-napervile-st-0828-20160826-story.html
— Naperville Sun Q&A: Abdul-Jabbar urges Americans to approach issues using facts, not emotions – David Sharos  (DIERSEN: What demographic facts about you would Abdul-Jabbar use to form his opinion of you?  From what I see, Abdul-Jabbar would use the following demographic facts about me to form an extremely negative opinion about me: baptized in 1948, raised, and confirmed in 1962 as a Missouri Synod Lutheran; conservative; Republican; American; White; male; old (67); non-poor; gun owner; Wheaton resident since 1978; Crete resident 1948-1972; 100% German national origin; and ancestors have been in America since the 1840s.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/naperville-sun/ct-nvs-abdul-jabbar-q-and-a-st-0828-20160826-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Q: Why do you think race has become such a source of conflict in this country that hasn’t been seen since Martin Luther King and the 1960s? A: It has ramped up, and it has to do with people noticing change — the complexion of America is getting a little bit more brown. It’s not like white people are getting outproduced or soon be a minority, but there’s a lot more people of color, and a lot of these people are in positions of power and influence, and it doesn’t look like it did in the ’40s and ’50s. The greater number of people of color is adding to the racial tension. Q: You’ve had a chance to talk with Donald Trump. What’s your take on him? A: I met him, which he doesn’t even acknowledge. I met him twice. My take on him is that he’s trying to exploit fear for votes. I think that’s reprehensible on his part.)

DAILY HERALD
— FRONT PAGE TOP OF FOLD HARDCOPY ARTICLE TITLE: Lisle teachers raises likely to be OK’d – Robert Sanchez (DIERSEN: Who hints/implies/argues/shouts that you are/were overpaid?  To discredit me, to promote envy against me, and to promote hatred against me, virtually all my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes hint/imply/argue/shout a) that the Post Office overpaid me 1966-1969, b) that IRS overpaid me 1971-1980, c) that GAO overpaid me 1980-1997, d) that my Civil Service Retirement System pension since 1997 has been too generous, d) and that my federal health, dental, and vision insurance subsidies and other federal benefits have always been too generous. It would be great if my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes a) would get together and put their charges against me in writing, b) give me sufficient time to prepare my rebuttal, and c) agree to publicly debate me in the Wheaton Bowl Banquet Hall or in one of their larger “safe place” type venues.  Should I ask my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes to put in writing a) their top ten reasons why they are/were not a federal employee or federal retiree, b) the sources and amounts of all their income for the last ten years, c) their assets, liabilities, and net worth, and d) the top ten reasons why they do not have more income and a higher net worth than they have now?)

PEORIA PUBLIC RADIO
— BEYOND DISGUSTING, BEYOND TRAGIC: Video (GAMBLING) Reaches New Heights In Illinois – JENNA DOOLEY
http://peoriapublicradio.org/post/video-gaming-reaches-new-heights-illinois#stream/0
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Anita Bedell is with the Illinois Church Action on Alcohol and Addiction Problems. “There has been embezzlement. There’s been bankruptcy, divorce, and crime – all of the results of video gambling,” Bedell says, “and that will just continue to grow.” Notice that she calls it video gambling instead of video gaming. The distinction is important because her group also monitors the state gaming numbers, but she focuses her attention on how much money players have lost. Bedell’s group tallies the top ten communities by dollars lost by players. Since 2012, they include Springfield, Rockford, Decatur, Bloomington, Champaign, and Peoria. Bedell says her group will continue to educate communities which want to add or expand video gaming.)

— U.S. Senate Candidates Court Farmers – Greg Bishop  (DIERSEN: What are your demographics?  Do candidates court voters who share your demographics?  To give preference to one demographic is to discriminate against another demographic. Ever-increasingly, Democrats and RINOs court, that is, promise to give preference to, voters who are anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: People might be shocked at how high drug prices have gotten. But equally lucrative are the compensation packages hauled in by drug company CEOs. CEOs of the 14 biotech and pharmaceutical companies in the Standard & Poor’s 500 that served all of 2015 pulled down median compensation packages valued at $18.5 million in 2015, according to a USA TODAY analysis of data from S&P Global Market Intelligence. That was 71% greater than the median $10.8 million hauled in by S&P 500 executives in all industries in 2015, according to an analysis by Equilar. “We all know drug prices are high,” says Eleanor Bloxham, CEO of compensation analysis firm The Value Alliance. “Companies award (the CEOs) very generous packages.” Health care CEOs received the highest median pay packages of any of the 10 sectors, according to the Equilar analysis.)
