CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Volunteer work is the best remedy for our anxious times (COMMENT: What volunteer work do you do?  I spend 15+ hours each and every day and thousands of dollars every year putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS newsletters together and sending them out every day. Those newsletters promote the Republican Party platform. What motivates you to do the volunteer work that you do? For me, it is filling the tremendous void in communication from the Illinois Republican Party (IRP), DuPage County Republican Central Committee (DCRCC), and Milton Township Republican Organization (MTRO). The IRP should be doing what I do for Illinois Republicans daily. The DCRCC and MTRO should be doing what I do for DuPage County and Milton Township Republicans at least weekly. Political organizations exist to help elect candidates in their jurisdictions who can and will defend and advance their platform. Democrat organizations do not have to do what I do because the mainstream news media promotes the Democrat Party platform.)

My critics/opponents hinted/implied/argued/shouted that I was grossly overpaid ($153,151/year in today’s dollars) and that I must be an extremely bad employee because I was forced to retire even though I had three job-related master’s degrees (1997, 1980, and 1976), six job-related professional certifications (1997, 1996, 1994, 1990, 1981, and 1979), and a job-related professional license (1981).)

My Democrat IRS superiors took adverse actions against me and wasted my career. GAO audits IRS. I transferred from IRS to GAO when I was 31 years old in 1980. http://www.gopillinois.com
— How would your life been different if Democrats had not had Affirmative Action and DEI to use against Republicans? For me, the federal government would have promoted me into its Senior Executive Service, currently $195,200/year, long before I was 40 years old. I had three job-related master’s degrees (business, accounting, and finance), six job-related professional certifications (accounting, internal auditing, fraud examination, government financial management, financial services auditing, and forensic accounting), and a job-related professional license (CPA). None of my coworkers who my Democrat superiors promoted over me had anything close to that. – Dave Diersen

— What is your attitude toward fired federal employees? My critics/opponents stress that virtually no one came to my defense when my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire when I was 49 years old in 1997. http://www.gopillinois.com
— A big reason why I got virtually no sympathy when my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire when I was 49 years old in 1997 was that that I immediately started getting a Civil Service Retirement System pension of $66,780/year in today’s dollars and that the federal government continues to pay 72% of my and my wife’s health care premiums. But in today’s dollars, my GAO salary was $153,151, and therefore, I suffered a $86,371/year or 56% loss of income. But virtually everyone accepted back then and continues to accept the hinting/implying/arguing/shouting from my critics/opponents that I was grossly overpaid. – Dave Diersen

If you accept that, you can understand why my employers had such a hard time recruiting and retaining women for those jobs and why they gave the women who they did hire so much preference over men. With Affirmative Action and DEI, the women who they hired could always get better jobs elsewhere. All the women who my employers promoted over me a) had less work experience than I had b) had less education than I had, c) had no professional certifications or fewer than I had, and/or d) had no professional license like the one that I had. — Trump puts new limits on Elon Musk’s authority amid backlash to DOGE cuts. The president instructed his Cabinet to work with Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency but clarified that Cabinet members should be the ones making staffing decisions. (COMMENT: What about the legislative branch? During the 1990s, Gingrich cut GAO’s budget dramatically, but he let the head of GAO, Charles Bowsher, make all the staffing decisions. Because of the above, my having master’s degrees in management, accounting, and finance from non-Ivy League universities, my having six job-related professional certifications including in accounting and internal auditing, and my having a CPA license did not save me. If I was still working, instead of collecting that $1.8 million to not work, I would have paid $295,000 into the CSRS. Who do you blame the most for the aforesaid? My Democrat GAO superiors or Gingrich? What is your position on paying employees to not work? – Dave Diersen

— You want privacy with that? (COMMENT: I worked for the Democrats who ran the federal government for almost 30 years, including almost 9 years for IRS and 3 years for GAO on audits of IRS. Federal employees who are Republican should anticipate/expect that their Democrat superiors will get your tax information and use it against you. My Democrat IRS superiors used my tax information to disallow my education deductions. My Democrat GAO superiors used my and my wife’s tax information to paint me as being undeservedly filthy rich.)
https://www.northernpublicradio.org/wnij-news/2025-03-05/perspective-you-want-privacy-with-that
(FROM THE ARTICLE: We’re well into a particularly dreaded time of year. Ah, yes. It’s time to pay 2024 taxes. According to a 2023 report from an ad hoc Congressional committee, “Big Tax Prep has recklessly shared tens of millions of taxpayers’ sensitive personal and financial data…for years in what appears to represent a violation of taxpayer privacy laws.” That’s pretty scathing. Think about this: the instant you open that commercial tax package and start uploading your data, you may be risking the loss of your financial privacy. It has me thinking about going back to the twentieth century and filing on paper! Fortunately, Congress and the Internal Revenue Service are rolling out a remedy. This year, it’s now possible for taxpayers in twenty-five states (including Illinois and Wisconsin) to file directly with the IRS – for free. The process will forever be (dare I say) taxing. But at least we’re getting some privacy protections with the new IRS Direct File program. I suppose we can call that……progress.)

None of my Democrat GAO superiors had anything close to the number of job-related degrees, professional certifications, and professional license that I had. They all decried the time and money needed to raise children. According to them, my not having children gave me a tremendous unfair advantage over them.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The ideal worker at the Chinese chemical manufacturer, according to the internal memo, is hardworking, virtuous and loyal. And — perhaps most important — willing to have children for the good of the country. That was the message that the company, Shandong Shuntian Chemical Group, sent to unmarried employees recently, in a notice that spread widely on social media. It instructed them to start families by Sept. 30, or else. “If you cannot get married and start a family within three quarters, the company will terminate your labor contract,” the memo said.)

— Overwhelmingly, Republicans view federal employees negatively. Why is that? Virtually all federal employees are Democrats, and many of them are minority, female, and/or veteran. I am Republican, White, male, and non-veteran, but nevertheless, I survived as a federal employee for almost 30 years and I have been a federal retiree for more than 27 years. To demonize me, denigrate me, and condemn me, my Republican critics/opponents stress that I was a federal employee 1966-1969 and 1971-1997 and that I have been a federal retiree since 1997. They especially stress that I was an IRS employee 1971-1980. I should write about why Republicans view federal employees negatively. I would stress how my Democrat superiors treated me. In reality, only 3% of the 2.4 million federal employees make more than $200,000 a year, while half make between $50,000 and $110,000 a year, according to government figures. Further, workers who have made six figures for a number of years could easily be worth seven figures, particularly those in their 50s or 60s who have been saving for retirement for decades and have considerable equity in their homes. But Musk’s assertion raises the more fundamental question about how he would know the financial situations of federal employees.)

Few members have formal Washington experience. Many are software engineers. All seem to have a clear mandate: Shrink and disrupt the federal government. Mr. Musk’s team has taken aim at more than 20 agencies while gaining access to sensitive government data systems. But the full extent of its reach or ambitions is unclear. Much of the team’s operations are opaque, and most of its personnel have not been disclosed by the Trump administration, and it is unclear exactly how large the operation is. Through executive order, President Trump moved the team from the Office of Management and Budget, where it had been housed as the United States Digital Service since its founding, into the White House — a transition that effectively shielded its work from open records laws that could give the public insight into its operations. The list below includes some of Mr. Musk’s allies; engineers — many of whom are young men — with backgrounds in artificial intelligence; former employees; and others who have helped the operation. Several have recently deleted their social media accounts after their names appeared in news reports.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: In the summer of 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court ended the practice of affirmative action, or race-based admission practices in its decision in a pair of cases brought by Students for Fair Admissions. But California is not only still driving race-based admissions practices, it’s shifted the policy into overdrive, and the California university system is now the target of a lawsuit because of it. Weirder yet, the person who filed the lawsuit is himself a member of a minority group, but he’s a member of the wrong one — he’s Asian, and his credentials are amazing.)

— Former Gov. Bruce Rauner is among Republicans looking at Elon Musk and President Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency with a bit of nostalgia, uncertainty and caution. In an interview, Rauner acknowledged the challenges of trimming government. “There are all kinds of restrictions and union rules and regulatory rules for what you can do as an executive versus what needs legislative or other approvals, including union approvals and employee approvals,” he said. “It was very, very, very tough to shrink.” . . . Sen. Tammy Duckworth, an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump’s funding freeze, will host Lauri Morrison-Frichtl during the president’s speech before Congress on Tuesday. Morrison-Frichtl is executive director of the Illinois Head Start Association, which has been affected by the freeze. Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04) will bring Eric Rodriguez for Trump’s speech. Rodriguez is a disabled Army veteran who works at the Hines VA Hospital and is concerned about Trump’s cuts to veterans’ services and the rights of unionized federal employees, according to Garcia’s team.

If qualified minorities and females had applied in 1966, UIC would have admitted them instead of me. The same for NIU in 1969, Loyola in 1972, DePaul in 1976, and IIT in 1992.)

— No consensus on who comes to mind when Americans are asked to name a news influencer (COMMENT: Since 2000, as your GOPUSA Illinois Editor, I have served as a conservative Republican political and government news and commentary aggregator. Of course, my critics/opponents do not want me to influence anything. That is why they a) ended my service as the Milton Township Republican Organization (MTRO) webmaster in 2004 and 2010, b) ended my bid to serves as MTRO Treasurer in 2004, c) ended my service as an American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board member in 2004, d) almost got Illinois Center Right Coalition (ICRC) to censure me for my GOPUSA ILLINOIS newsletters in 2006, e) ended my ICRC Steering Committee membership in 2007, f) ended my Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee membership in 2011, g) ended my TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairmanship in 2012, h) gerrymandered my precinct in 2015, i) ended my service as the Republican fundraiser for Wheaton Independence Day parades and fireworks in 2021, and j) ended my Illinois Republican Party State Convention Platform and Resolutions Committee membership in 2024.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: About one-in-five U.S. adults (21%) say they regularly get news from news influencers on social media, according to our recent study. The study is part of the Pew-Knight Initiative, a research program funded jointly by The Pew Charitable Trusts and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. But because the idea of “news influencers” is relatively new, we also wanted to know who Americans are thinking of when they hear the term. So in an open-ended question, we asked U.S. adults who say they regularly get news from news influencers to name the first one who comes to mind for them. In response, half named a person (as opposed to an organization or entity) or gave no response. The 425 people they named reflect a wide range of backgrounds – from journalists to opinion commentators to politicians to content creators. Most of these people fit the definition of news influencers in our larger study – that is, people with large followings on social media who regularly post about news or politics. The influencers our respondents most often named include Philip DeFranco (volunteered by 3%), Tucker Carlson (2%), Ben Shapiro (2%), V Spehar from Under the Desk News (2%) and Carlos Eduardo Espina (2%).)
