— The 0.3%: Million-dollar earners in Illinois – SABRINA GASULLA (DIERSEN: How many of the 19,800 million-dollar earners in Illinois live in your county, in your township/ward, in your municipality, and in your precinct? If there are 300 or more households in your precinct, is one or more of them a million-dollar earner?)
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20180420/ISSUE01/180429990/the-0-3-million-dollar-earners-in-illinois
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Only 1 in 300 Illinois households can brag they earn at least $1 million a year. Still, that ratio is higher than in neighboring states and on par with percentages in tax havens Florida and Texas. And in sheer numbers, Illinois has more million-dollar earners than ever.)

— Bustos Disagrees With Welfare-To-Work – Cole Lauterbach (DIERSEN: Are you able-bodied? Of course, because I am still able-bodied, Bustos, as well as all my critics/opponents, all their operatives, and all their dupes would support requiring abled-bodied federal retirees like me to work to qualify for Civil Service Retirement System pensions and for federal health, dental, and vision insurance subsidies. To prove that I still able-bodied, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes would stress that even though I am 69 years old, I continue to put GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and send them out each and every morning and each and every evening.)
http://altondailynews.com/news/details.cfm?clientid=17&id=263990#.Wt8oOMuKSM8
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As written, the provisions in the farm bill would expand state welfare-to-work programs already in place. It would require able-bodied adults without dependents under six years old to either work or enroll in job training programs for at least 20 hours per week to qualify for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.)

PRAIRIE STATE WIRE
— Illinois House approves spending of $635K on three “lactation and wellness” rooms at State Capitol (DIERSEN: During the early 1990s, to help GAO a) hire, retain, and promote young women and b) to get rid of its employees who smoked (overwhelmingly old White men), GAO gutted the smoking room in its Chicago office and turned it into a lactation room.)
https://prairiestatewire.com/stories/511397874-illinois-house-approves-spending-of-635k-on-three-lactation-and-wellness-rooms-at-state-capitol
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “Lactation rooms should provide, at a minimum, a lockable door; a work surface and chair; a small utility-type sink; storage for cleaning supplies and paper towels; adequate HVAC service, including a thermostat; and well-placed electrical outlets,” according to the AIA. “Telephone service and network connections for the room are also recommended to increase worker safety and productivity. Accessibility guidelines should be met for all the features of the room.” AIA standards also dictate the coating used for the table work surface (“plastic laminate”), the size of the table (“20 inch deep by 30 inch wide”), the location of power outlets and other “useful accessories” that must be required, including “a trash can, a paper towel dispenser, a coat rack or coat hooks, a full-length mirror, a magazine rack, and a bulletin board.” The Illinois Capital Development Board, which would handle the lactation room construction, estimated the construction cost at $211,856 per room or $847.42 per square foot, provided the room were 250 square feet. The only ‘no’ vote was State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton), who suggested the state should pay its $8.4 billion in unpaid bills before considering new projects like this one. The bill, House Bill 1042, now goes to the Illinois State Senate for approval. Last month, the Senate passed a resolution to approve the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), which would render female-only accommodations like a lactation room unconstitutional.)

ILLINOIS HOME PAGE
— Lawmakers push net neutrality at state level – Raquel Martin (DIERSEN: I should write a book about those who if they could have, they would have stopped me by now from sending out GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails. They are nasty rule-or-ruin types. They focus on destroying individuals, destroying organizations, destroying companies, destroying governments, and destroying countries that they cannot manipulate/dominate. According to them, the only news that is not fake is the news that they put out or bless. They blame me and my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails for all of their problems, for all of your problems, for all of my problems, and for all of everyone’s problems. They blame me and my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails for all the defeats that Republicans have suffered in Illinois since 2000.)
http://www.illinoishomepage.net/news/local-news/lawmakers-push-net-neutrality-at-state-level/1136892136
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Monday net neutrality rules expired nationwide but Williams is spearheading a plan to keep regulations in place in Illinois. She fears without it, internet providers will be able to charge higher rates and limit access. “Right now consumers can access the internet not as a luxury but as a necessity and when that’s something that you need for everyday life, if that’s for access to government services, to go to school or to do work for small business, we think that should be open for everyone.” Though the FCC okayed changes nationally, she’s taking control where she can. Under her proposal, providers who don’t abide by net neutrality rules can’t do business with the state.)

ILLINOIS CHURCH ACTION ON ALCOHOL & ADDICTION PROBLEMS
— Gambling Action Alert (DIERSEN: I just called my Senator Mike Connelly’s office and asked for him to not only vote NO on SB 3166 and SB 3452, but to also speak against those bills.)
http://ilcaaap.org/gambling-alert/
(FROM THE ALERT: Call your Senator to Vote NO on SB 3166, SB 3452 Senator Terry Link is sponsoring two bills to expand gambling. SB 3166 and SB 3452 are on 3rd reading and could be called for a vote at any time. SB 3166 allows licensed veterans establishments to operate video gambling machines in a municipality or unincorporated area of a county that has banned video gambling. The Video Gambling Act allows municipalities to “opt out” of video gambling. SB 3166 would open the door for video gambling in other liquor pouring establishments to “even the playing field”. Problem, Pathological Gambling Rates High Among Veterans: About 8% of U.S. veterans are problem gamblers, and an additional 2% are pathological gamblers, a study from the Department of Veterans Affairs reveals. People who have more posttraumatic symptoms, anxiety, and depression tend to have more gambling problems. “Read more SB 3452 legalizes Internet betting on horse racing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from computers, smart phones, I-pads and tablets. The General Assembly approved a three-year Advanced Deposit Wagering “pilot program” in 2009. SB 3452 would extend Internet gambling on horse racing until 2022. SB 3452 will not save horse racing, but will make track owners and their ADW companies richer. For Immediate Action Call your State Senator TODAY and ask him/her to Vote NO on SB 3166 and SB 3452 -expansion of gambling. (Capitol Switchboard – 217-782-2000) Share this Alert with your faith community Forward to 10 others.)

ILLINOIS FAMILY INSTITUTE
— Queering Government Schools: Just Say No – Laurie Higgins (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, to send a child to a public school is to encourage that child to engage in LGBTQ activity. I should write a book about LGBTQ promoters in Wheaton and in Glen Ellyn who demonize, denigrate, and condemn my parents because they sent me to Trinity Lutheran Grade School in Crete 1953-1961 and then to Hope Lutheran Grade School in Park Forest 1961-1962 to stay with the Missouri Synod. They hint/imply/argue/shout that if had gone to a public grade school like they did, I would be promoting LGBTQ activity like they do.)
https://illinoisfamily.org/education/queering-government-schools-just-say-no/
https://illinoisfamily.org/podcast/podcast-queering-government-schools-just-say-no/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: For decades homosexual and “trans” activists have used schools to indoctrinate children with the disordered and destructive “LGBTQ” ideology. Thirteen years ago, the Journal of Gay & Lesbian Issues in Education published an article titled “Trans-Friendly Preschool” by now-ordained Rev. Laurel A. Dykstra, a “bisexual Christian activist” who has twins via a sperm donor. I wrote about her article for IFI in 2008—a decade ago. Here are some of Dykstra’s ideas for training up children in the way they should go:)

CAPITOL FAX
— Rauner’s new website slams Pritzker-Madigan “corruption” (DIERSEN: I have been the DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 9 Republican Committeeman since 1999. From I see, in my precinct, those who vote for Democrats do not care about Illinois’ financial problems or corruption, but they despise, if not hate, Trump and those who are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, draft avoiders, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)
https://capitolfax.com/2018/04/24/rauners-new-website-slams-pritzker-madigan-corruption/
— Madigan and lone chairmanship “No” vote together on Joravsky’s show (FROM THE ARTICLE: I doubt we’ll ever see Rauner and Ives appear together on Dan Proft’s radio show.) (DIERSEN: QUESTION: If/when Rauner loses to Pritzker, who will the Democrats and Democrat plants, Libertarians and Libertarian plants, Greens and Green plants, and RINOs blame? ANSWER: Those who supported Ives in the primary. I supported Pat O’Malley in the 2002 Republican gubernatorial primary. I should write a book about those who continue to blame me, but not Dan Proft, for Jim Ryan’s defeat in the general election.)
https://capitolfax.com/2018/04/24/todays-must-listen-madigan-and-lone-chairmanship-no-vote-together-on-joravskys-show/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: House Speaker Michael Madigan was a guest on “The Ben Joravsky Show” radio program yesterday, which is odd in and of itself. The anti-machine Chicago Reader columnist ain’t exactly a member of the Madigan wing of the Democratic Party. But making this even more interesting, Madigan appeared on the show with Peter Janko, who was the lone vote against Madigan’s bid for party chairman yesterday. Everyone appeared to get along fine, partly because Madigan kept the focus on defeating Gov. Rauner. Madigan was also asked what he would say to Alaina Hampton if he could.)
— Madigan says he hasn’t made up his mind on legalizing marijuana (DIERSEN: Pot is poison. If you promote pot, you shout that you promote destruction. — Liberals Killed Equal Rights Amendment, Not ‘Religious Right’ – Bill Donohue
https://www.cnsnews.com/commentary/bill-donohue/liberals-killed-equal-rights-amendment-not-religious-right
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Times looks even more hypocritical when it says that while there are laws granting equal rights to women, “The E.R.A. would add an extra layer of legal protection for women—and men—against discrimination.” Yet when it comes to laws offering a new round of legal protection for the unborn, or for white men victimized by affirmative action, the same New York Times says we have enough laws on the books for them.)

NEW YORK TIMES
— Ronny Jackson, Trump’s V.A. Nominee, Faces Claims of Overprescription and Hostile Work Environment – Nicholas Fandos (DIERSEN: Have you worked in a hostile work environment? While I worked for GAO 1980-1997 in its Chicago office, the work environment became increasingly hostile for its employees who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/24/us/politics/ronny-jackson-veterans-affairs.html?emc=edit_na_20180424
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Senate Veterans Affairs Committee is examining allegations that President Trump’s nominee to lead the Veterans Affairs Department oversaw a hostile work environment as the White House physician and allowed the overprescribing of drugs, according to congressional officials briefed on the committee’s work. They have also received claims that Dr. Ronny L. Jackson drank too much on the job. The allegations, which have been under investigation since last week, forced the postponement of Dr. Jackson’s confirmation hearing, planned for this Wednesday as senators scrutinize the nominee’s time leading the White House medical staff. Officials familiar with the allegations against Dr. Jackson declined to offer precise details but said that they suggest a pattern of behavior, not just one or two isolated incidents.)
— ERA: A Rebuke to Trump, a Century in the Making – Editorial
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/19/opinion/a-rebuke-to-trump-a-century-in-the-making.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Then there’s the question of what the E.R.A. would do. Even the most die-hard proponents of the amendment acknowledge that it’s unlikely to radically advance women’s rights, at least in the short term. That’s because, for decades, many courts have applied the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment to sex discrimination, creating a body of case law that’s functioned as a sort of de facto E.R.A. As to whether the amendment could actually undo some programs that are beneficial to women, like sex-based affirmative action efforts, legal experts point to the fact that though the Constitution already protects the rights of people regardless of race, race-based affirmative action continues to exist. They also point to parts of the country that have state-level E.R.A.s and have not had such outcomes.)

WASHINGTON POST
— Shrinking workspaces – Eric Yoder (DIERSEN: Of course, my Democrat GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinate were beyond furious when I got a preferred corner office instead of a cube when GAO moved into a new building in 1990. I would not have gotten that office if the GAO manager who had hired me in 1980 and had gotten me assigned to audits of IRS in 1986, had not promoted me to GS-13 in 1986. I would not have gotten a preferred office if my working for the Post Office for almost 3 years and for IRS for almost 9 years had not been counted for seniority purposes.)

My wife and I will, but with a far lower standard of living than if the Democrats who run the federal government had not wasted my career and forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old. My $51,864/year Civil Service Retirement System pension is only 41% of what my $125,325 salary was in 1997 in today’s dollars. https://www.wsj.com/articles/retirees-are-less-confident-about-having-enough-to-live-on-1524562200
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Other findings indicate that workers may be overestimating how long they will be able to remain on the job. While workers expect to retire at a median age of 65, retirees typically reported leaving the workforce at 62. While 79% of workers plan to work for pay in retirement, just 34% of retirees said they have actually done so. About 65% of American workers said they or a spouse have saved money for retirement. CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Madigan gets another term as Illinois Democratic chairman despite sexual harassment complaints on his watch – Monique Garcia (DIERSEN: Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform. Beyond tragically, Madigan correctly hints/implies/argues/shouts that anti-conservatives, that is, anti-Republicans, dominate the Illinois Republican Party (IRP). They focus on getting rid of individuals, organizations, companies, and governments that support the traditional family, right to life, immigration, and other planks in the IRP platform.)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/commentary/ct-perspec-mcqueary-rauner-reelection-sam-mccann-20180423-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Remember, it’s only April. Rauner has time to recoup. But as of now the numbers aren’t with him. The Republican base isn’t with him. The momentum isn’t there. And now, McCann. Representing a district southwest of Springfield, McCann is a study in contrasts. He was elected as an outsider and tea party conservative in 2010. He voted against same-sex marriage, against driver’s licenses for undocumented immigrants and remains a strong supporter of gun rights. He sided recently with Rauner to shield gun shops from state licensing and other regulations. Conservative agenda: Check. But on other positions important to conservatives — smaller government and pension reform — he has been a reliable vote for Democrats. He voted against every pension reform bill that came to the Senate floor, including a bill eliminating pensions for lawmakers. He stood with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, and voted to override Rauner’s veto — the only GOP member to do so — on a bill empowering the union at the bargaining table. He voted against closing underused state facilities. He voted against more flexibility for local mayors when negotiating contracts with public employee unions. He voted against consolidating local governments. Conservative agenda: Fail. You could call him AFSCME’s favorite Republican. “I consider myself a voice for working people,” he told me during his re-election campaign in 2016. “I have never voted to diminish or impair pensions. I’m a conservative Republican and constitutionalist. The Constitution is painfully clear that pensions shall not be diminished or impaired. I think the tea party should embrace those commitments to working people.”)

— AP-NORC Poll: Amid strikes, Americans back teacher raises – AP
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20180423/news/304239961/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In 2016-2017, the average salary for a public school teacher was $58,950, down slightly from the previous year, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. Overall, 78 percent of Americans said that’s not enough. Just 15 percent think teachers are paid the right amount, while 6 percent think they’re paid too much. In a 2010 AP-Stanford poll, 57 percent of Americans said they thought teachers are paid too little. Americans in states with the lowest average teacher salaries – less than $50,000 a year – were slightly more likely to think teachers were paid too little and that the national average should be an important factor in determining salaries.)

— Michael Madigan wins re-election as Democratic Party leader – Bernard Schoenburg (DIERSEN: Are/were you a union member? Are/were you a member of the “working class?” I was a union member 1966-1969 and 1971-1980. I should write a book about my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes who despise, if not hate, union members and lowly failed members of the working class like I was.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: About 100 people from a variety of labor organizations gathered outside the State House Inn before the meeting to show support for Madigan’s re-election. Jamie Neuhaus, 44, of Lincoln, a member of Operating Engineers Local 965, was carrying a sign with a picture of Rauner and the words: “Danger: Hazardous to the working class.” “Rauner is a slash-and-burn kind of guy” who is “not used to having somebody stand up to him,” Neuhaus said. — Plank wins MC GOP chairmanship; Control of state party remains in question – Ann Maher
https://madisonrecord.com/stories/511397911-plank-wins-mc-gop-chairmanship-control-of-state-party-remains-in-question
(FRO(M THE ARTICLE: While chairmanships appear settled across the state, the election of the 15th Congressional District state central committeeman – between incumbent Bob Winchester or State Sen. Chapin Rose – remains uncertain. The congressional district includes all or part of 33 southern Illinois counties and is led by Congressman John Shimkus of Collinsville. Plank said that Madison County precinct committee men and women chose Winchester over Rose by a margin of approximately 60 to 40 percent, and then as a sign of unity voted by acclamation to place 100 percent of the county’s vote in favor of Winchester. At stake in the controversy is control of the Illinois Republican Party and whether Gov. Bruce Rauner – fresh from an intense primary battle with conservative state Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) – can exert influence over it. According to the SE Illinois News, Rauner and current state GOP Chairman Timothy Schneider declared victory after last Wednesday’s convention. “But did they actually win?” the report states. Plank said Monday morning that a winner has still not been declared. The SE Illinois News report indicates that Schneider recruited Rose to challenge Winchester, a Rauner critic who supported Ives in the March primary. It further states that Rose supports Schneider for another four year term, while Winchester does not.)

https://capitolfax.com/2018/04/23/sun-times-makes-urgent-appeal-for-subscriptions-bashes-tribune/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Zorn is not amused…I enjoy robust competition, but this level of contempt for the other paper vastly exceeds anything I’ve seen in nearly four decades here. […] Traditionally, competing papers, like most competing consumer products, tout their virtues in ads and imply or allude politely to their advantages over other brands. Harsh attack commercials are generally reserved for political campaigns, which is why this Sun-Times spot, which alternates praise for itself with whacks at us — the Sun-Times’ “priority is hardworking people”; the Tribune’s “priorities aren’t so clear,” and so on — feels distinctly political. Not to mention false. Look no further than the massive investigation the Tribune launched into how failures in the Cook County property tax system harm the poor most of all for evidence of our priorities. Look at the extensive analysis of lead in Chicago’s tap water we published earlier this month to see what matters to us. Look at the deep-dive investigation our reporters conducted last fall into children dying from abuse or neglect while under state supervision to see whom we haven’t written off. * But… . . . The ad says the Trib “sits in judgement.” That is, indeed, often the vibe.)

DAILY HERALD
— FRONT PAGE: New tollway chief gets $29,000 more than previous CEO – Marni Pyke (DIERSEN: Schillerstrom says “you have to pay for quality.” GAO audits IRS. When I transferred from IRS to GAO when I was 31 years old in 1980, all my GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates knew full-well that GAO had forced me to take a $19,203 (26%) PAY CUT in today’s dollars to transfer. They knew full-well that GAO could just as well given me a PAY INCREASE to get me to transfer because I had had passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979, I had almost completed the requirements for a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul, I had earned an MBA from Loyola in 1976, and I had worked for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880. Of course, my Democrat GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates used that PAY CUT to demonize, to denigrate, and to condemn a) me as being a stupid lazy loser and b) my knowledge of IRS as being worthless. Because it frustrated their efforts to get rid of me, they were furious when I completed the requirements for a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980, passed the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt in 1981, became a licensed CPA in 1981, became a Certified Fraud Examiner in 1990, became a Certified Government Financial Manager in 1994, became a Certified Financial Services Auditor in 1996, became a Forensic Accountant in 1997, and earned a master’s degree in financial markets and trading from IIT in 1997. They knew full-well that if I had been a Democrat, and especially if I had been a minority and/or a female, GAO would have a) given me a PAY INCREASE to transfer and b) promoted me into its Senior Executive Service long before I was 40 years old.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180423/new-tollway-chief-gets-29000-more-than-previous-ceo
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Illinois tollway’s new Executive Director Elizabeth Gorman will be paid $215,000 a year, $29,000 more than her predecessor. Gorman, a former Republican Cook County commissioner and PricewaterhouseCoopers executive, was approved by the tollway board Feb. 22. At the time her salary was being negotiated. . .”The bottom line is — you have to pay for quality,” Chairman Robert Schillerstrom said. “What we’re doing there is trying to build a team and we want the best people possible to lead the team because we’re working on really big projects.” Gorman was hired by a unanimous vote of tollway directors, who are appointed by Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner. Hiring a tollway executive director is a somewhat amorphous process. . .This time, Schillerstrom played a lead role in Gorman’s hiring, saying he never spoke to Rauner personally about her candidacy, although the governor’s staff was apprised. Gorman has an MBA from the University of Notre Dame, chaired Cook County’s Transportation Committee and was PricewaterhouseCoopers director of state and local government. “She’s got the ability to work with people in the private and public sectors, she understands transportation and frankly she’s worth every cent we pay her,” Schillerstrom said. Gorman served as chairwoman of the Cook County Republican Organization in the late 2000s and is Orland Township Republican Organization committeeman. The Cook County GOP gave Rauner a crucial endorsement in his tight primary race with state Rep. Jeanne Ives of Wheaton on Feb. 5. Rauner’s office referred all questions to the tollway. Ives called the salary “outrageous. Board members should have to approve any personnel contract above $150,000 in a public meeting,” she said, adding she has sponsored legislation to that effect.)

— DISGUSTING, TRAGIC: Batavia woman provides clean needles, naloxone to drug addicts – James Fuller
http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180423/batavia-woman-provides-clean-needles-naloxone-to-drug-addicts
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Supplying free needles to people addicted to drugs is a practice ripe for local criticism. Batavia sits in Kane County. The county board rejected zoning for a would-be drug addiction treatment center twice in the past two years. Wheaton, in neighboring DuPage County, rejected a drug-treatment center earlier this year. Mixed into all those decisions was a flood of concerns from local residents about rehab centers bringing drug addicts into their neighborhoods.)

CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
— Billionaire Bezos and the warehouse workers – BARRY RITZHOLTZ (DIERSEN: Should I write a book about my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes who constantly shout that government salaries, benefits, pensions, etc. are too generous, yet say nothing about the tremendous CEO to median salary of employee ratio in the private sector? Ever-increasing, they talk and act like CEOs like Bezos are paying them big bucks to demonize, to denigrate, and to condemn government employees and government retirees.)
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20180420/OPINION/180429982/billionaire-bezos-and-the-warehouse-workers
(FROM THE ARTICLE: We have just learned that the median salary of employees at Amazon.com Inc. is $28,446, excluding its chief executive officer and founder, Jeff Bezos. That pitiful number raises an intriguing question: Is Amazon a high-paying tech company or a low-wage retailer? “Both” is the obvious answer, but to this Amazon aficionado that answer is incomplete. The pay figure, which was disclosed for the first time in Amazon’s annual proxy statement, reflects the large number of low-paid retail and warehouse employees who work for the company. The proxy also disclosed that Bezos was paid $1.68 million, making the ratio of what Bezos was paid and the median pay 59-to-1. What does that ratio tell us? Really, not very much. Bezos, according to the proxy, had a 2017 compensation of $81,840 in salary. The rest was in the form of perks, much of it for “security arrangements” and travel. But Bezos’s pay, which seems rather modest when stacked up against the obscene earnings of many other corporate chiefs, is almost irrelevant. That’s because Bezos is the world’s wealthiest person, with a fortune now estimated at $129 billion (depending upon what Amazon stock is trading at this moment). So that ratio, although accurate, means next to nothing. If you really want to understand the gap between CEO and worker, consider instead the ratio between the net worth of the boss and his employees: I did, and it’s beyond measure. Seriously, 100 billion-to-1 is not an outlandish estimate.)

PEORIA JOURNAL STAR
— Keeping county officials’ salary frozen makes sense – Chris Kaergard and Nick Vlahos (DIERSEN: Are/were you accused of being overpaid? My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always accused me of being overpaid. In my defense, to qualify myself for better paying jobs, I earned a) a job-related bachelor’s degree when I was 21 in 1970 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) a job-related professional license when I was 32.)
http://www.pjstar.com/news/20180422/keeping-county-officials-salary-frozen-makes-sense
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Most people in Peoria County would be happy to get a six-figure paycheck. At least, that’s our guess in a jurisdiction where the median household income — not individual, household — between 2012 and 2016 clocked in at $51,632 according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Why do we provide you that statistic? It’s time again for the County Board to vote to set the salary for the countywide officials who will be elected this November. That trio of folks — the sheriff, the treasurer and the clerk — are each now making at least $103,990. (The sheriff makes $122,058 from the county in recognition of the vast department the office oversees, and an additional $15,000 of pay as “supervisor of public safety.”) It is, in short, pretty good scratch for overseeing those offices for taxpayers. You may recall that when the salaries for the other countywide officials — auditor, coroner, circuit clerk — were set two years ago, there was a drawn-out debate over the topic of pay. Ultimately board members decided to freeze the officials’ salaries. They were lagging slightly behind the trio up for election this year and were making a mere $94,210. Now, to keep the peace, board members hatched a compromise, offering what amounts to a bonus — they called it an “annual service payment” — of $1,250 each year for the auditor, coroner and circuit clerk. That cash isn’t added onto the base, so it isn’t part of any future increases.)
— Stephen Morris: A solid choice – Chris Kaergard and Nick Vlahos
http://www.pjstar.com/news/20180422/word-on-street-keeping-county-officials-salary-frozen-makes-sense
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Our congratulations to Stephen Morris, who was elected unanimously last week as the new chairman of the Peoria County Republican Party. We’ve gotten to know him quite well during his tenure on the Peoria County Board, where he now serves as vice chairman. He’s stepping down from that post later this year after self-imposing a term limit. In the role, he’s been a reliable conservative, and more than willing to poke at some longstanding practices of the board and pursue streamlining of local government. He’s also shown himself willing to work constructively from the board’s GOP minority to find common ground rather than gridlock. He succeeds Carol Hornickle, who has also been a joy to work with in her brief tenure.)

It also asks Compass not to participate in background checks, drug tests and the federal E-verify program — which checks if employees are eligible to work in the U.S. — for existing employees. Participation in the E-verify program could threaten the jobs of workers who are undocumented. The University does not reveal if or how many undocumented workers are at NU.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: For years, a joke among Trump Tower employees was that the boss was like Manhattan’s First Avenue, where the traffic goes only one way. That one-sidedness has always been at the heart of President Trump’s relationship with his longtime lawyer and fixer, Michael D. Cohen, who has said he would “take a bullet” for Mr. Trump. For years Mr. Trump treated Mr. Cohen poorly, with gratuitous insults, dismissive statements and, at least twice, threats of being fired, according to interviews with a half-dozen people familiar with their relationship. “Donald goes out of his way to treat him like garbage,” said Roger J. Stone Jr., Mr. Trump’s informal and longest-serving political adviser, who, along with Mr. Cohen, was one of five people originally surrounding the president when he was considering a presidential campaign before 2016. Now, for the first time, the traffic may be going Mr. Cohen’s way. Mr. Trump’s lawyers and advisers have become resigned to the strong possibility that Mr. Cohen, who has a wife and two children and faces the prospect of devastating legal fees, if not criminal charges, could end up cooperating with federal officials who are investigating him for activity that could relate, at least in part, to work he did for Mr. Trump.)

REPUBLICAN NEWS WATCH
— GOP Misfits in Illinois Undermine President Trump’s Minority Outreach – DOUG IBENDAHL
http://republicannewswatch.com/wp/?p=14460
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “What do you have to lose by trying something new?” – Donald J. Trump That was a question then-candidate Donald Trump regularly repeated on the campaign trail. It was part of a message he regularly directed specifically to African Americans. The obvious point being that black voters were being betrayed and taken for granted by politicians of the past like Hillary Clinton. This President is serious about rebuilding America and restoring economic opportunity to all, regardless of race or creed. And it’s not just rhetoric. We’re witnessing the results on a daily basis. Donald Trump is a man of his word. I wish we could stop there and declare to black citizens in Illinois that everything is fine. Just hold on, help is on the way. Unfortunately, we can’t. While our President is literally working night and day to make us proud again of Republican leadership, some local yokels in Illinois – actually let’s call them what they are, failed misfits – are actively undermining our President’s positive work and destroying the Republican brand in Illinois. I’ll give you just the latest illustration by telling the story of what I witnessed at a GOP event last week in Chicago. Last Wednesday, April 18, each of the 102 counties in Illinois held a Republican county convention. Every two years this is where the county GOP chair and other county party officers are picked. And every 4 years, this being one of those years, the county conventions are also the place where under the easily rigged system only the Illinois Republican Party uses, the 18 members of the state central committee (“SCC”) are picked. One member is selected from each of the state’s U.S. congressional districts. The SCC is the State GOP’s senior governing board and its members pick the state party chairman. The current state chair is Governor Rauner flunky, Tim Schneider of suburban Cook County.)

SOUTHEAST ILLINOIS NEWS
— Ballot hijinks lead Southern Illinois Republicans to challenge party leadership vote – W.J. Kennedy
https://seillinoisnews.com/stories/511395529-ballot-hijinks-lead-southern-illinois-republicans-to-challenge-party-leadership-vote
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Governor Rauner and his hand-picked state GOP Chairman Timothy Schneider are declaring victory in Southern Illinois. But did they actually win? State party officials claim Southern Illinois Republicans voted for a new state central committeeman yesterday, replacing longtime incumbent, former legislator Bob Winchester of Rosiclare with State Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet). Rose supports Schneider for another four year term; Winchester does not. But county chairmen say an examination of the vote count shows Rose didn’t win and that the fix was in. They’re promising to challenge what they say are manipulated results. “Rauner’s people showed their true colors yesterday,” a source told SE Illinois News. “They’re glad to cheat to win.” “This has made us even more bitter” In the balance is one of 18 spots on the State Republican Party Central Committee, which governs the party and exerts influence up and down the ballot. On Wednesday, GOP precinct committeemen voted to elect their county chairmen and the state central committee members, who will convene in May to choose a party chairman. Schneider recruited Rose to challenge Winchester, a Rauner critic representing Southern IIlinois’ 15 Congressional District, which includes 33 counties. Winchester supported State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) in the March primary. “Many of us were already bitter and this has made us even more bitter,” Rhonda Belford, Hardin County GOP Chair, told SE Illinois News. “Bob Winchester stood tall for southern Illinois and all of Illinois, and this is how they treat him.” Belford said that some of her fellow county chairmen were offered financial rewards by Schneider. Others were threatened with retribution if they didn’t support Rose over Winchester. “They know not what they do,” she said. “This is all about money, but it’s the wrong kind of money, and in the end it’s probably not going to win them the race anyway.” Winner takes all? Mark Shaw, State Central Committeeman from Lake County’s 10th congressional district, said that he is concerned that some counties may have voted by acclamation, a procedural move that would have given Rose 100 percent of the vote when he may have received just over 50 percent. Shaw, who grew up in Mt. Carmel in Wabash County, said that voting by acclamation could be a violation of state law and some legal action may be in order. Results do show that Winchester received zero votes in nine of 33 counties, including four of the ten most populated, a result that Shaw and others said would be an impossibility. Several counties, sources tell SE Illinois News, didn’t even offer Winchester as a candidate for consideration. In Fayette County, home to Rauner Downstate Director Randy Pollard, Winchester was not presented as an option, sources say. “Pollard asked for a voice vote by acclamation for Chapin (Rose) and just moved on,” a source said. “He didn’t even mention Winchester was a candidate, much less the incumbent.” Rose also received zero votes in 13 counties carried 100 percent by Winchester. In all, 22 of 33 counties voted by acclamation, representing 63 percent of Rose’s vote and 59 percent of Winchester’s. County votes are weighted based on their respective turn-out in the March primary. “There are a lot of irregularities here,” Shaw said. “We want to see the raw data on a precinct level presented to the party.” The Shimkus Machine Aides to U.S. Rep. John Shimkus (R-Collinsville) actively recruited Rose to challenge Winchester, offering to help him replace Shimkus in Congress when the opportunity presents itself, sources say. Sources in Madison County, Shimkus’ home which carries the second-largest weighted vote in the district, say that when they, too, voted by acclamation for Winchester, a lawyer volunteer for Shimkus present protested and said acclamation votes were not legal. Shimkus’ District Director, Deb Detmers Fansler, then threatened Madison County precinct committee members by phone. Madison County submitted each candidate’s vote totals to the state GOP, sources say, along with the caveat that they voted by acclamation to deliver all of them to Winchester, who won 59 percent of the actual vote. State GOP officials didn’t include Madison County’s acclamation vote in their official totals; it would have meant Winchester won re-election by 644 votes. Chicago GOP Chairman Chris Cleveland said he would push to see the actual vote data as well. “This was a very contentious election, and it’s important that we have full transparency in the results,” Cleveland said. “That means complete, precinct-level reporting that we can verify.”)

https://chicago.suntimes.com/cannabis/pols-high-on-marijuana-legalization-hope-to-clear-the-air-on-4-20-pot-holiday/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: On Thursday, Healthy & Productive Illinois, a “marijuana policy group” that has argued against legalization, released its own study. The group argues it would cost the state $670.5 million a year to legalize pot, outweighing annual estimated tax revenue projections of about $566 million. They’re not the only ones not joining the party. Gov. Bruce Rauner told a Downstate TV station in December that it would be a “mistake” to legalize marijuana in Illinois. The Republican governor has, in the past, said he wants more studies on the “ramifications” in states that have legalized the drug. “I do not support legalizing marijuana. I think that’s a mistake. You know there’s a massive, human experiment going on in Colorado, and California, other places. We should see how that’s impacted lives and addiction and hurt young people before we make any decision about it here,” Rauner said in an interview on WSIL in Marion. “I do not support legalizing marijuana.” Still, Rauner instituted a medical marijuana pilot program that started doling out weed to patients in 2015. And Rauner last year signed a bill that decriminalized the possession of 10 grams or less of marijuana, making it a ticketable offense subject to fines of $100 to $200.)

To hint/imply/argue/shout that I am disgraced federal employee, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes stress a) that my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, gave me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, got rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $19,203 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980; b) that my Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974; and c) that my Democrat Post Office superiors forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-met-loizon-evans-lawsuit-20180418-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A white supervisor in the Cook County Adult Probation Department has filed a federal lawsuit claiming he was wrongly dismissed last year, while numerous black employees in the department have received little or no discipline for alleged misconduct. Philippe Loizon, a former deputy chief who made about $115,000 a year, on Tuesday sued Chief Judge Timothy Evans, alleging that Evans, the county’s first African-American chief judge, had discriminated against him because of his race. Evans fired Loizon in May 2017 following a series of Tribune investigations into accusations that a rogue unit of officers under Loizon’s command had improperly teamed up with Chicago police and the FBI to conduct warrantless searches of homes, and coerced probationers to work as police informants. The county paid $110,000 to two Chicago men who alleged in federal civil rights lawsuits that probation officers, joined by the FBI and city police, conducted illegal searches of homes. And a series of gun cases fell apart following accusations of those questionable searches. Loizon, who was assigned to desk duty for two years before he was dismissed, said the Tribune’s accusations were false and were “based primarily on information provided to the reporters by convicted felons.” He said he had a “clean personnel record” and received outstanding job reviews during his 29 years with the probation department. He alleged Evans treated him differently because he is white. “Evans imposed discipline against Loizon in a manner and at a level he had never imposed on an African-American employee of the (department), despite conduct of an egregious nature by some of the African-American employees,” according to the suit. Evans’ spokesman, Pat Milhizer, declined to comment, citing a state Supreme Court rule that he said forbids judges and court personnel from commenting on pending court matters. One of Loizon’s lawyers, Gregory Friedman, declined to comment Wednesday, referring the Tribune to a statement he issued last June. In that statement, Friedman said Loizon was an exemplary employee who was wrongly fired, and that the Tribune had “done a great disservice to a good man. “Throughout his employment, Mr. Loizon performed his duties in an outstanding manner and in conformity with Departmental polices,” Friedman wrote then. “Philippe Loizon was a diligent and dedicated probation officer and Deputy Chief.” In his suit, Loizon identified 12 current and former probation officers, all of whom are black, who allegedly committed misconduct or violated department policy, yet received little or no punishment at all. The suit cited a probation officer who frequently worked to turn probationers into police informants; an officer who falsely claimed to meet with probationers who actually turned out to be in jail or dead; and an officer who shot and wounded a 14-year-old boy. Loizon said that none of those employees were disciplined. Loizon is seeking reinstatement as deputy chief, back pay with interest, compensatory and punitive damages, and his lawyers’ fees and expenses.)

NPR ILLINOIS
— Gubernatorial Candidates Have Fence-Mending Ahead – DAISY CONTRERAS (DIERSEN: What does Rauner say to his advisors who tell him that the harder that he works against the Illinois Republican Party platform, the more votes that he will get from Democrats and from Independents?)
http://nprillinois.org/post/gubernatorial-candidates-have-fence-mending-ahead#stream/0
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Last month, the state’s voters decided on the Republican and Democratic nominees for governor. But the primaries behind them, the winners still have to convince those who wanted someone else at the top of the ticket. Incumbent Gov. Bruce Rauner probably thought he didn’t need to worry about his only Republican opponent, state Rep. Jeanne Ives, during the primary campaign. In the past, he’d called her a “fringe candidate” and decided to forgo campaigning against her until just a few weeks before election day. When the votes were tallied election night, Rauner had snuck past Ives by just 3 percentage points. It was closer than most expected, and the governor acknowledged that in his victory speech by saying he had heard the message those dissatisfied voters were sending him. “I have traveled the state and I have listened to you,” he said in his election night speech. . .Rauner, on the other hand, must try to get more than the 50 percent of Republicans who voted to renew their trust in him and get them out to the polls in November. Chris Mooney, a political science professor at the University of Illinois Chicago, said the governor has the more difficult task of restoring trust with a large segment of his party’s base. “And so the question is can Rauner look to them – he doesn’t have to worry about them voting for Pritzker, I think that’s pretty clear. What he has to do is get them to come out to vote in November.” . . . Rauner has done his best to separate himself from President Trump, but there are similarities in their backgrounds. Both tout success in business and very wealthy. Rauner’s wealth has been a key rallying point for Democrats, who view him as out of touch with the working class and spotlight his attacks on organized labor to make their point. . .Rauner has been traveling the state campaigning, it appears he has yet to bring Ives’ backers into the fold. This may not be an easy feat to accomplish – even for the wealthy governor. Ives was heavily outspent, but she was able to easily tap into the dissatisfaction among conservatives who felt Rauner had broken his promise on key legislation, including a measure to allow public funding for abortions. Despite a push from conservative groups – and even Chicago Cardinal Blaise Cupich – to hold the governor to his word, Rauner signed the legislation into law. Ives herself makes that point, saying many of her supporters feel betrayed. “There are supporter voters of mine, they are saying we are not going to vote for him regardless of what he says.” While the circumstances might be different, the insurgent campaign Ives ran harkens to Donald Trump defeating establishment Republicans on his way to the White House. Those who felt left out, or maybe taken for granted, went for Trump and sent a message. In Illinois, Rauner doesn’t deny there is still work for him to do. Soon after election night, Rauner hit the campaign trail to acknowledge there were some divisive issues. “And I know now, as I’ve known for a while that we need to find common ground to bridge the divides.” As for Ives, she has said she will vote for Rauner but made it clear she has no plans to campaign for him. While both Pritzker and Rauner will spend the next several months telling all voters why they should be elected, they’ll also be busy mending fences – in their own political backyards.)

— You Won’t Believe What Tax Reform Will Cost Wealthy Californians In 2019 – ED MORRISSEY (DIERSEN: Roskam should increase the $10,000 SALT cap to $20,000 for married filing jointly.)
https://hotair.com/archives/2018/04/18/wont-believe-tax-reform-will-cost-wealthy-californians-2019/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: President Donald Trump’s tax cuts will be anything but for about 1 million California taxpayers who will owe Uncle Sam more money a year from now. They’re the Californians who will lose a collective $12 billion because the new law caps a deduction they have been able to take for paying their state and local taxes, according to a new analysis by the Franchise Tax Board. Very wealthy Californians earning more than $1 million a year will pay the lion’s share of that money, with 43,000 of them paying a combined $9 billion. It’s not all coming from the wealthy. Another $1.1 billion will come from households earning less than $250,000, hiking their tax liability $4400 on average. That’s not peanuts, but it’s a far cry from the average $209,302 per family that will be owed by those households earning more than a million dollars a year. Put this another way. That represents the federal tax liabilities that everyone else in the country subsidized through SALT. The “progressive” income tax used taxes paid by people in low-tax states to repay the wealthy for their taxes in places like California. The SALT deduction really only comes into play for people who can itemize enough to outstrip the standard deductions, so its benefit plays mostly to the wealthy anyway. It also plays mostly to the benefit of a very few states. California and New York taxpayers soak up almost third of all benefits from SALT deductions; add in New Jersey, Illinois, Texas, and Pennsylvania, and they account for more than half of its benefits.)

And when the primaries are done, the party works to elect the nominees in the general election. (FROM THE ARTICLE: “Given this moment of heightened racial awareness … having a black woman as head of the political party in Cook County says that at least there is an overt acknowledgement that African Americans and women are good leaders,” said Jacky Grimshaw, a former aide to Mayor Harold Washington, the city’s first black mayor. “That’s not to say that the party has overcome its racial bias.” The party that Preckwinkle would lead looks different than the one Berrios took over in 2007. Berrios spokeswoman Monica Trevino said in a statement that under Berrios’ leadership, the number of minority Democratic candidates increased by 76 percent, and twice as many women have been slated for countywide office. “The leadership of the Cook County Democratic Party is mostly men, mostly white and mostly old school,” Carol Marin wrote in a 2007 Sun-Times column prior to Berrios’ election as chairman. Berrios took over shortly before Barack Obama won his election as the first African American U.S. president. “There’s even more reason to breathe some life, some youth and some real diversity into the leadership of this sickly organization,” Marin wrote back then.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Critics charged, however, the legislation would threaten people’s constitutional rights and the lack of uniformity in the “patchwork” of ordinances could lead to confusion that would open up gun owners to criminal liability. “When you talk about patchwork and you bring in cell phones and cigarettes, they don’t compare,” said Ed Sullivan of the Illinois Rifle Association. “You don’t have a right to a cigarette or a right to a cell phone, but you do have a constitutional right to a semiautomatic weapon.”)

EVANSTON ROUNDTABLE
— Nichols’ Use of Racial Affinity Groups Questioned, and Defended – Larry Gavin
http://evanstonroundtable.com/Main.asp?SectionID=16&SubSectionID=27&ArticleID=14941
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Commissioner Kirsanow’s Letter Mr. Kirsanow, an African American who is generally regarded as holding conservative views, made clear in his letter that he was sending the letter as one member of the Commission, not on behalf of the Commission. Mr. Kirsanow said he assumes the segregated meetings were instituted in response to a recommendation in District 65’s May 2017 Equity Report that the District create “social identity affinity groups.” He said, “I am astonished that District 65 spent taxpayer money on a report that includes the recommendation, ‘separate teachers by race.’ Separating teachers by race fosters racial division and is prima facie unlawful. By its nature, it forces teachers to view themselves in terms of what divides them, rather than what they have in common. It also encourages a binary view of society that, depending on your perspective, is either, ‘whites against everyone else’ or ‘everyone else against whites.’ It may even foster a sense among both groups that they are threatened by the other. “However well-intentioned, this is segregation for the 21st century,” Mr. Kirsanow said. “Unless a legitimate, nondiscriminatory educational reason can be articulated, the segregation almost certainly would be found unlawful. Discussions of politically correct notions of ‘privilege,’ unsupported by methodological rigor, do not qualify as legitimate reasons, and they are by their own definition discriminatory.” The letter also suggested that the District’s hiring practices may run afoul of prohibitions against racial discrimination in hiring. He also raised a question about the Equity Report’s analysis of the achievement gap. While stating that the achievement gap is concerning, he says, “It’s interesting that the equity report assiduously avoids any examination of the home lives of the children as a possible partial explanation for the achievement gap. “The racially-conscious efforts you and District 65 have undertaken will foster racial division instead of racial understanding. Sending teachers to racially separate meetings is a stark picture of the future you are sowing. You are encouraging students and teachers to view each other as members of groups, not as individuals.”)

Were you considered to be college material? While I attended Crete-Monee High School 1962-1966, I took college preparatory courses notwithstanding the fact that many, if not most, if not virtually everyone at the time viewed me as NOT being “college material.” Neither of my parents had attended college. My father was the first of his ancestors to earn a high school diploma. My mother never attended high school. I spent my junior and senior years and the summer in between washing dishes for the minimum wage in the basement of the S.S. Kresges in Chicago Heights. I just barely made into the top 20% of my class, my ACT score was only 24, I was draft bait, my eyesight could not be corrected to 20/20, I had partial red/green color blindness, and I had Osgood-Schlatter disease (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osgood%E2%80%93Schlatter_disease). Further, my father had fought type 1 diabetes from age 14. I am sure that many thought that I would soon come down with type 1 diabetes too.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: At George Washington University, nearly half of all undergraduates receive the school’s Presidential Academic Scholarship. The prizes go to “the most competitive applicants in the pool,” admissions materials say, and include awards of $5,000 to $30,000 for each student. At some other colleges, a solid majority of students get similarly hefty scholarships. At still others, virtually everyone gets them. Hundreds of colleges and universities are using academic scholarships and other merit-based financial aid to gain an edge in a battle for students. The scholarships make students feel wanted and let families think they’re getting a good deal, like a shopper who buys an expensive sweater on sale.)

She garnered 341,836 statewide votes, while spending about $4.3 million since first announcing her run. Ives received $3.926 million in contributions, with $2.5 million from Richard Uihlein and $20,000 from conservative radio host Dan Proft. Illinois Policy Institute CEO John Tillman also contributed $5,000 to Ives’ campaign. The bulk of Ives’ campaign money — $2.74 million — was spent on advertising. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner spent over four times more than state Rep. Jeanne Ives in the months before his narrow primary victory on March 20. The first-term governor spent about $17.7 million in the first quarter, according to campaign records filed late Monday. That’s compared with about $4.3 million spent by Ives, who lost by just three percentage points. And Democrat J.B. Pritzker spent nearly double what Rauner did, reporting $34 million in expenses this year, far more than state Sen. Daniel Biss’ $5.8 million and Kenilworth businessman Chris Kennedy’s $3.9 million. Rauner starts the fall campaign with about $38.5 million in his campaign fund for what some observers predict could be the most expensive governor campaign in history. Pritzker showed about $8.1 million in the bank at the start of the month. He’s given his campaign $7 million since the primary ended, bringing his self-funding total to $76.5 million.)

https://www.illinoispolicy.org/more-than-100-township-governments-file-in-opposition-to-township-consolidation-bill/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: One common critique of consolidation measures by government officials is that services would be diminished. But HB 3133 provides that the responsibilities and obligations of a dissolved township be transferred to its receiving county, suggesting that residents could expect continued delivery of public services at a reduced cost. This concept is not without precedent: DuPage County has eliminated multiple units of local government, while consolidating the services of others, since the passage of a 2013 consolidation law that only applied to DuPage County. In a 2015 report, Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti held up the DuPage example as a model for fiscal reform for other counties. Sure enough, lawmakers representing Lake and McHenry counties successfully pushed through the General Assembly a similar consolidation bill that extended much of DuPage County’s consolidation powers to both counties.)

Because they make tax laws for all of us, all U.S. Representatives and U.S. Senators should be required to prepare their own tax returns, and they if fail/refuse to do that, they should be barred from having anything to do with tax laws. I have prepared my own tax returns since I was 16 years old in 1965. I have filed itemized returns since I was 24 year old in 1973. I worked for IRS 1971-1980, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880. I worked for GAO on audits of IRS 1986-1988 at the GS-13 Step 1-3 levels, currently $96,403-$102,830. I passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979. I earned master’s degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980. I paid less federal income tax 1972-1977 because I itemized and my wife and I have paid less federal income tax since 1978 because we have itemized. However, because of the marriage penalty, my wife and I have paid more federal income tax since 1978. It seems that those who are not married and those whose spouse has little or no income want to keep the marriage penalty or even increase it. It seems that those who pay little or no real estate tax and/or state income tax want those deductions to be capped. April 16 Morning Edition

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform. QUESTION: What should Illinois Republican Party (IRP) State Central Committee (SCC) candidates promise to do, and do, if they are elected? ANSWER: Defend and advance the IRP platform. Be loyal to the platform and NOT to whoever gives them, or the IRP, the most money. Notify in a timely manner all the party leaders and elected Precinct Committeemen in their congressional district of the date, time, and location of IRP SCC meetings. Seek input for agenda items from the aforesaid before each IRP SCC meeting. Provide the aforesaid with IRP SCC meeting agendas as soon as they are finalized. Attend all IRP SCC meetings and actively represent the Republicans in their district. Provide the party leaders and elected Precinct Committeemen in their district with a summary of major actions taken at IRP SCC meetings within a week after the meetings. Appoint a member to the 2020 IRP State Convention Platform and Resolutions Committee who is a Republican, and NOT a RINO, a Democrat plant, a Libertarian plant, or a Green plant. Appoint a Deputy IRP SCC Member who can and will help you do the aforesaid. Further, IRP SCC candidates should be extremely financially secure because RINOs, Democrat plants, Libertarian plants, and Green plants are moral relativists who believe that their end justifies their means, because they are disciples of Saul Alinsky, and because they have destroyed and will destroy those who defend and advance the traditional family, right to life, immigration, Second Amendment, and other planks in the IRP platform. – Dave Diersen

— Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform. Do you support all the planks in the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) platform? I do. Are you a conservative? I am. How would you react if a Republican candidate hinted/implied/argued/shouted a) that conservatives run the IRP, DuPage County Republican Central Committee, Milton Township Central Committee, etc., b) that those conservatives should stop purging “those who don’t completely align with our platform,” and c) that Rauner’s rejection of the traditional family, right to life, and immigration planks in the IRP platform did not justify a primary challenge? PRAIRIE STATE WIRE
— Rauner attempts conservative “purge” of Illinois GOP leadership (DIERSEN: Incumbents who go against their party’s platform want a primary challenge. It certainly looks like Rauner went against the traditional family, right to life, and immigration planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform to get a conservative to challenge him in the primary. It certainly looks like Rauner’s reelection strategy was to use his crushing that conservative to run as an anti-conservative to get votes from Democrats like most Republican candidates in Illinois do. Obviously, Rauner erroneously assumed that he would crush Ives.)
https://prairiestatewire.com/stories/511392525-rauner-attempts-conservative-purge-of-illinois-gop-leadership
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner is publicly preaching party unity on the campaign trail. But behind the scenes, Rauner is quietly leading an effort to purge conservatives from the Illinois Republican State Central Committee, which governs the party. At issue: the re-election of current Illinois GOP Chairman Timothy O. Schneider of Bartlett, a close ally of Rauner and a sharp critic of State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) in the recent gubernatorial primary. “He’s in trouble,” a source close to the situation told Prairie State Wire. Lake County GOP Chairman Mark Shaw is mounting a strong challenge to Schneider, sources say. Republican precinct committeemen gather at their county conventions this Wed. to nominate and elect eighteen State Central Committee members, or one from each Illinois congressional district. State Central Committee members will meet in May to select the state party chairman. Rauner and his allies have targeted three members for defeat– John McGlasson of Pontiac (16th Congressional District/U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger), Robert Winchester, Sr. of Rosiclare (15th Congressional District/U.S. Rep. John Shimkus) and Fred Floreth of Springfield (13th Congressional District/U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis). DeWitt County GOP Chairman Dustin Peterson dropped his challenge to Floreth on Friday, after reports that he had once been arrested for a DUI. Challenging McGlasson is State Rep. Thomas Demmer (R-Dixon) and Winchester, State Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet). . .Sources say Rauner allies have offered to have Rose will withdraw his candidacy and put a designee of Winchester, a retired state employee who spent ten years in the Illinois House (1974-84) and joined the State Central Committee in 2002, on the Illinois GOP payroll. Illinois House GOP Leader Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) and Illinois Senate Minority Leader Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) are backing Rose’s bid and criticizing Winchester for being disloyal to the governor, sources say. Winchester campaigned at the Bond County Lincoln Day Dinner Saturday night, but Rose did not appear. Detmers Fansler, a former aide to then-Illinois Secretary of State George Ryan, was ousted from the State Central Committee in 2014 after backing then-chairman Pat Brady, a Rauner ally who sought to change the party platform to support gay marriage.)

https://capitolfax.com/2018/04/05/circular-firing-squad-battle-moves-to-state-central-committee-races/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Every four years, Republican Party conventions of precinct committeemen are held in every Illinois county for the purpose of electing state central committee members in each of the state’s congressional districts. The filing deadline was March 26th. Dave Diersen posted a list of contested races. I’ve added incumbent (i) designations… . . . That’s a lot of challenges. I asked Dan Proft if he was behind any of these candidates in an attempt to take over the party. Chris Cleveland was a big Jeanne Ives supporter, for example, as was David Smith, Patrick Harlan and others on that list. Proft’s texted response… Think you’ve got it reversed. It reads to me as if Rauner and his big government apparatchiks are working to continue their purge of conservatives from the party per their backing candidates against McGlasson, Floreth and Winchester. Message to Ives and her supporters: leave the party. I checked in with the ILGOP, former statewide candidate Bob Grogan and the Ives campaign, but haven’t yet heard back. . .KOL: What is going on in the 6th? All three are Rauner allies, so I thought)

Then, Oldsmobile withdrew that job offer saying that it had just agreed to stop hiring Whites to settle an EEOC complaint. That directly resulted in my accepting a job offer from IRS. Right up to the end of August of 1969, my Democrat Post Office superiors unethically led me to believe that they were going to let me continue working part-time while took classes at NIU. Few, if any, of my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes would do what I did to earn a pension – survive tremendous pressure to get rid of me from my Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates to work for the same employer for almost 30 years.)

April 14 Evening Edition

ABC7
— So-called ‘migrant caravan’ of asylum-seekers departs Mexico City for U.S. – Danny Clemens (DIERSEN: How soon will Mexico officially declare war on America? Mexico has unofficially declared war on America by its illegally sending many millions of its citizens into America illegally, by its illegally keeping many millions of its citizens in America illegally, and by its illegally sending mountains of illegal drugs into America illegally.)
http://abc7chicago.com/politics/smaller-migrant-caravan-departs-mexico-city-for-us/3342706/
— Public officials facing less scrutiny by journalists – BGA (DIERSEN: Similarly, those who run the federal government face less scrutiny because Republican U.S. Senators and Republican U.S. Representatives  a) successfully led the effort to gut GAO during the 1980s and 1990s and b) continue to keep GAO a shell of what it once was.)
http://abc7chicago.com/politics/weekend-watch-public-officials-facing-less-scrutiny-by-journalists/3338139/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: There is a lack of transparency, efficiency, service or accountability. The job of journalists and watchdogs is to hold government officials and politicians accountable. But with fewer and fewer professional reporters on the case, as print and broadcast media keep shedding staff to cut costs, such as the Chicago Tribune cutbacks last month, public officials face less scrutiny. The BGA believes that the Riverdale library’s transgressions should be investigated by the Illinois attorney general. However, there aren’t enough watchdogs left to shine a light on every Riverdale and hold all their officials accountable, and that should alarm every taxpayer in Illinois. You can read the full Better Government Association story online at www.bettergov.org.)

KANKAKEE DAILY JOURNAL
— More cash for struggling schools – David Giuliani (DIERSEN: When you were in high school, did it have lots of cash? Since 1966, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have hinted/implied/argued/shouted that Crete-Monee High School had lots of cash when I attended it 1962-1966 and that is why I was able a) to pass the Post Office employment test, b) to graduate in the top 20% of my class, c) to get an ACT score of 24, d) to get accepted by UIC, and e) to get a student draft deferment.)

BLAZE
— LGBT courses will be added to Illinois public schools’ curriculum if lawmakers approve pending bill – Teri Webster (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, those who run Illinois make it clear that if you do not promote LGBTQ activity, they want you to leave Illinois, like the Nazis made it increasingly clear that they wanted Jews to leave Germany.)
https://www.theblaze.com/news/2018/04/14/lgbt-courses-will-be-added-to-illinois-public-schools-curriculum-if-lawmakers-approve-pending-bill
(FROM THE ARTICLE: What have opponents said? But this is different, opponents said, because it goes against the religious beliefs of other students. Adding LGBT beliefs to public school curriculums would force some students to hear about personal values counter to what they believe, said Ralph Rivera, a lobbyist with the conservative Illinois Family Institute. “Where’s the protection for students and parents who have a religious belief?” Rivera told the Chicago Tribune. “Which has always been the case, this is not a new, avant-garde thing that they find this behavior to be against their religious beliefs and their churches’ or synagogues’ beliefs. No one seems to be mindful of that. They don’t care.” The Illinois Association of School Boards is also leery of the proposal. The board typically opposes most state requirements for schools because they believe districts, not lawmakers, should make such decisions, the Chicago Tribune reported. . .Illinois has a history of supporting LGBT issues. For example: The state approved same-sex marriage before the U.S. Supreme Court allowed it nationwide. Last year, lawmakers approved a measure to allow transgenders in the state to change the sex listed on their birth certificates. A new law plans the “gay panic defense,” which allowed criminals charged with first degree murder to maintain they “acted out of passion after learning their victim was gay or transgender.”)

WASHINGTON POST
— Sure, McCabe and Comey made mistakes. But that’s not why they were fired. – Max Boot (DIERSEN: According to my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes, my Democrat superiors in the federal government took adverse actions against me because I was a BAD employee, and a) NOT because I complained to them about political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation; b) NOT because in 1988 when I was 40 years old, I became an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged them with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation; c) NOT because I filed a lawsuit against them in 1998 that charged them with political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation; d) NOT because I have always been a Republican, e) NOT because many of them disapproved of my demographics, including my national origin and religion, f) NOT because many of them disapproved of my conservatism, and g) NOT because many of them disapproved of my avoiding the draft. I should write a book about those in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois who a) state that they are religious, conservative, and/or Republican but who b) side with my Democrat superiors against me. They reject the equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) plank in the Republican Party platform, b) they promote patronage and political affiliation discrimination, c) they promote age discrimination, d) they promote retaliation, e) they disapprove of my demographics, including my national origin and religion, f) they disapprove of my conservatism, and/or g) they disapprove of my avoiding the draft.)

FOX MILWAUKEE

— President Trump aiming to cut down on government aid abuse – Travis Robinson (DIERSEN: I should write a book about those in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois who hint/imply/argue/shout that government employees, and especially federal employees, are not contributing members of society.)
http://www.wndu.com/content/news/Indiana-assistance-programs-line-up-with-President-Trumps-executive-order-479435913.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: According to the order, in 2017, the federal government spent over $700 billion on low-income assistance. The goal of the order is to make sure everyone receiving that money is actually trying to be a contributing member of society.)
