When I graduated from NIU with a bachelor’s degree in management when I was 21 in 1970, potential employers saw me as being draft bait. They did not believe that my application for a financial hardship draft deferment to help support my mother and brother would be approved. Further, potential employers were under tremendous pressure to hire minorities and females. Consequently, I accepted the only job offer that I got, to be the Retail Sales Manager in a Firestone Store, a job that did not really require a college degree. Because my future there was bleak, I accepted a job offer from Oldsmobile in 1971. But Oldsmobile withdrew that offer saying it had just agreed to stop hiring Whites to settle an EEOC complaint. My Firestone Store boss rudely fired me because I had accepted that offer. Because I had to have a job, I accepted a job offer that I got from IRS to be a Revenue Officer. I had taken and passed the Federal Service Entrance Examination while I was a NIU student as a backup because I knew that private sector employers look down on federal employees and I had been a federal employee for almost 3 years.

I disagree with those Republican leaders who discouraged me from hand-delivering the following to the 170 Independent households in my DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 59 in Wheaton: DuPage County GOP-provided envelopes with 300 DuPage County Election-provided mailing labels for Independent voters that contained the outstanding Milton Township Republican Organization (MTRO) Voter Guide, the sample ballot, and Republican candidate literature from the 14 candidates who provided their literature to MTRO. To discourage me from seeking votes for Republican candidates from Independent voters in my precinct, they stressed that according to polls, 54% of independents say their vote will be mostly to express their opposition to Trump. I stress the 46% of Independent voters who do not say that. According to those who discouraged me, I am far too conservative, and because of that, the more that I do to help Republican candidates, the fewer votes that they will get. The Democratic Socialists of America’s 2026 program calls for publicly owned housing, universal rent control and public ownership of the largest corporations and essential industries. Those proposals deserve serious scrutiny. They would shift decisions about housing, investment and production away from individuals and businesses and toward government. That shift in control carries real risks for the middle class. Rent control may protect some tenants from increases in the short term, but it cannot create the homes a growing community needs. Research on San Francisco found that rent control reduced displacement for covered tenants while also contributing to a loss of rental housing that pushed market rents higher over time. Policies that discourage construction can leave more families competing for fewer homes. Public ownership raises an equally basic question: Who decides what gets built, what it costs and who gets access? Government programs can serve essential needs, but concentrating control over major industries in government would give political leaders enormous influence over people’s jobs, choices and livelihoods. Calling that “democratic control” does not guarantee competent management or protect citizens from political favoritism. The middle class already feels squeezed by housing costs, healthcare bills, energy prices and taxes. The answer should be to make it easier to build homes, start businesses, find good jobs and keep more of what families earn. An agenda that expands government control while discouraging private investment could narrow opportunity and make everyday necessities more expensive. Warnings about socialism aren’t just coming from Republicans. Sen. John Fetterman has said in fundraising appeals in recent weeks: “I’m always going to reject Socialism and the Anti-American way of life.” Voters should consider why a senator willing to cross partisan lines draws such a clear distinction between socialism and the American principles of individual freedom and opportunity. Candidates’ words matter. Democratic Michigan congressional candidate William Lawrence once described his goal as “destroying the American way of life” while criticizing consumerism. The context matters, and voters should consider his full remarks. But a phrase that sweeping demands a clear explanation of what he would preserve and what he would replace. This is not a choice between accepting every failure in today’s economy and surrendering more power to government. Families need a stronger path to homeownership, better schools, reliable public safety and healthcare they can afford. Those goals require accountable institutions and practical reforms, not promises that government can manage every part of life better than people can. The American dream has never been guaranteed. It depends on individual freedom, hard work and an economy that rewards initiative while giving people room to recover from setbacks. Voters should sound the warning when candidates offer policies that put those foundations at risk. The middle class should not become the experiment on which ideological promises are tested.)

But to advance under socialism, you have to be a card-carrying socialist. Because I would not have been a card-carrying socialist, I would not have advanced. If America had been socialist when you were young, would you have become a card-carrying socialist to advance? Being a socialist is a lot like being a Democrat. For Democrat leaders, the federal government exists to hire, retain, and promote Democrats, and especially Democrats who are minority, female, younger, and/or veteran. The Democrats who ran the Post Office in 1966, IRS in 1971, and GAO in 1980 hired me because they could not find a qualified Democrat who was minority, female, younger, or veteran and who would take the job. They wasted my career and forced me to retire in 1997 because I refused to become a Democrat. While I worked for the Democrats who ran the federal government for almost 30 years, you had to be a card-carrying Democrat to advance. Because I was not a card-carrying Democrat, minority, female, or veteran, a) my Democrat Post Office superiors disallowed my sick leave requests in 1968 and 1969 and forced me to resign in 1969, b) my Democrat IRS superiors got rid of the IRS manager who had promoted me in 1972, 1973, and 1974, disallowed my travel vouchers in 1974, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, and never promoted me beyond GS-12, and c) my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to suffer a $23,699/year (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980, delayed my promotions and never promoted me beyond GS-13, got rid of the GAO manager who arranged my transfer from IRS and was finally able to promote me to GS-13 in 1986, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 year that I worked for GAO, always ranked me in the bottom half or my coworkers for pay-for-performance, and forced me to retire when I was 49 in1997. They used Affirmative Action, up-or-out, and the subjectivity in their performance appraisal systems to take the aforesaid adverse actions. Because I was not a card-carrying Democrat, they ignored/dismissed/belittled my earning a) a job-related bachelor’s degree in 1970, b) job-related master’s degrees in 1976, 1980, and 1997, c) job-related professional certifications in 1979, 1981, 1990, 1994, 1996, and 1997, and d) a job-related professional license in 1981. Bloomingdale, IL — October 6, 2026 — Nearly 200 Republicans from across Illinois gathered Monday evening at Bloomingdale Golf Club as the DuPage County Republican Party hosted a statewide candidate rally featuring the Republican candidates running for statewide office in the November 3 General Election.
The enthusiastic crowd included Republicans from several counties across Illinois, along with dozens of local candidates, elected officials, township Republican leaders and grassroots activists.
Illinois Republican Party Chairman Bob Grogan served as master of ceremonies and welcomed attendees before introducing DuPage County Republican leaders and township Republican chairmen from throughout the county.
The evening featured remarks from Republican candidates for statewide office, including Darren Bailey for Governor, Aaron Del Mar for Lieutenant Governor, Don Tracy for U.S. Senate, Bob Fioretti for Attorney General, Diane Harris for Secretary of State, Bryan Drew for Comptroller and Max Solomon for Treasurer.
Local and congressional candidates also addressed the crowd, including Sean Noonan for DuPage County Sheriff, Patricia Kladis-Schiappa for DuPage County Clerk, Niki Conforti for Congress in Illinois’ 6th District, Lupe Castillo for Congress in Illinois’ 4th District, Rob Vrankovich for State Representative in the 47th District, Pedro Mendoza for State Representative in the 46th District, Laura Hois for State Representative in the 81st District, and Eric Poplanski for DuPage County Board.
The candidates delivered what organizers described as a message of less government, lower taxes and greater accountability, while encouraging voters to make a plan to participate in the November election.
Following the formal program, candidates met with supporters, posed for photographs and distributed campaign yard signs.

DuPage County Republican Chairman Kevin Coyne said the rally demonstrated the strength of the Republican ticket from the statewide level to local races.
“It was a wonderful event and showcased the very strong candidates the GOP has running statewide and locally. We have terrific candidates up and down the ballot. Last night was a great opportunity for voters to meet them all. Now let’s get out there and vote and take a crack at turning our state around!”
The evening concluded with remarks from Carol Davis of the Illinois Election Integrity Program and Illinois Conservative Union, who encouraged attendees to become involved as poll watchers during the November election.
With early voting already underway, organizers encouraged Republicans to make a plan to vote, bring others to the polls, and stay engaged through Election Day on November 3.

Dillard has known Tracy for decades and ran for governor in 2014 with Tracy’s sister-in-law, Jil Tracy, as his running mate. “For anyone that is scared off by Darren Bailey — and that would especially probably be suburban women — Don Tracy needs to differentiate himself from that, as well as letting people know that he clearly understands the importance of the city of Chicago,” Dillard said. “Having Don Tracy be the standard-bearer of the Republican Party … it should reassure regular traditional establishment Republicans that there is still a place for them in the Republican Party.” Tracy said it was an easy decision to skip the Trump-led GOP midterm convention in Dallas last month, deciding instead to campaign in Illinois and sit down with the Tribune at a downtown Chicago coffee shop to discuss his priorities. “I’m just 100% focused on winning this campaign, and I just didn’t see how going out, going to Dallas was going to be as important as, say, sitting with you or speaking in Evanston tonight, being on Polish radio earlier today or attending the joint meeting of the German American Police Association, Polish American Police Association and Emerald Society last evening, and whatever else I did yesterday,” he said. Still, Tracy repeatedly declined to say whether running alongside Bailey, with Trump leading the national party, made it harder to win over independent Illinois voters. Then there’s money. Tracy is a scion of a large family business, but says he doesn’t have “Pritzker bucks,” a reference to the governor’s status as a billionaire member of one of the wealthiest families in the country. Tracy, who previously lent his campaign $2 million, said early this month he had lent his campaign another $1 million-plus. He didn’t immediately share how much he raised this summer, and the deadline to report fundraising activity is weeks away. Stratton’s campaign said it raised $1.53 million across multiple campaign funds this summer, though it also had not yet formally filed its reports. Tracy raised about $133,000 from April through June and spent more than he brought in, according to federal campaign finance records filed in July. By comparison, Stratton raised more than $1.1 million, and Bailey raised $1.33 million. It’s hard to raise “big money” as a Republican running statewide in Illinois, Tracy said. “In Illinois, money still gravitates to the power. Illinois Republicans have very little power in this state.” Tracy also hasn’t gotten much free media attention. The general election campaign for the U.S. Senate seat representing Illinois has been far quieter than the blockbuster races in competitive states around the nation where control of the Senate hangs in the balance. It hasn’t even generated the same interest seen in the primaries earlier this year, with Democrats so highly favored statewide. Tracy and Stratton are scheduled to appear together just once, on WTTW in late October, according to the campaigns. The Tracy camp blames that on the Democrat’s lack of engagement. Even so, Tracy has continued to appear on TV, including a mid-September Fox 32 interview that he said was supposed to be a debate with Stratton. He is running digital ads pitching himself as someone who can “keep it simple,” while also trying to tie Stratton to socialism. As he introduces himself to more voters in Chicago and the suburbs, he has often stayed in a city condo he bought last fall. Opposing ‘socialism’ and ‘extremes.’ To understand how high Tracy thinks the stakes are, look up at his campaign billboards, like the one looming over the junction of the Dan Ryan and Stevenson expressways. “SOCIALISM DESTROYS LIVES,” it reads. “VOTE DON TRACY FOR US SENATE.” Stratton doesn’t identify as a socialist. But she carved out a lane in the Democratic primary by taking progressive positions, campaigning to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and to raise the federal minimum wage to $25 — positions that helped her stand out in the primary earlier this year. Tracy calls Stratton’s positions radical and is campaigning against “extremes” in energy, business regulation and resistance to immigration enforcement. Also central to his campaign is a call for geographic balance. Illinois, he says, shouldn’t be represented in the Senate by two Cook County Democrats, as it would be if Stratton wins. U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth, a Democrat, lives in Hoffman Estates, and Stratton lives in Chicago; Durbin lives in Springfield. “Most of the Democrats in charge of the state and the city are career politicians, or career government workers,” Tracy said. ”They’ve never had to make a payroll like I had to make a payroll. So we need someone from a more conservative basis with a business background to be involved, and I think I’m it.” But to win in heavily blue Illinois, Tracy will need to win over independents and even some Democrats. And in his Tribune interview, he took several stances that seem unlikely to appeal to Democrats, including defending a position he took in a primary campaign appearance on CBS Chicago when asked whether he agreed with Trump’s immigration enforcement tactics. “In sanctuary cities, immigration law enforcement is more of a challenge because of massive resistance,” Tracy said in the CBS interview. “Much like the resistance to civil rights in the South.” Asked whether he was comparing Chicagoans resisting federal immigration enforcement to white Southerners resisting integration during the Civil Rights Movement, Tracy said he was, “in a sense.” “A lot of the elected officials in the South and their supporters were opposed to that federal law, and they were in open defiance of a federal law. And in sanctuary cities, particularly … relative to the enforcement of federal immigration law, have been in open defiance of federal immigration law,” Tracy said. “There’s no civil rights law that says you cannot enforce federal immigration law.” . . . A ‘throwback candidate.’ Tracy is a “throwback candidate,” “as earnest as the day is long” and a contrast to the “professional politicians” on the Democratic side, said Richard Porter, a former Republican National Committeeman and a friend of Tracy’s who considered a run for the seat last year. Porter repeatedly compared him to Jimmy Stewart’s character, Jefferson Smith, in “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,” a classic 1939 movie about an ordinary, good man appointed to the U.S. Senate. But unlike Mr. Smith, Tracy has no shortcut to Capitol Hill. Because of Tracy’s time leading the party, he could serve as a bridge between Trump-enthusiast Republicans and the rest of the GOP, Dillard said. Several allies emphasized that he’s in the race because of his principles, regardless of the odds. “Don Tracy is a low-key but highly likable gentleman,” Dillard said. “Whatever’s left of the Illinois Republican Party base, he should do pretty well there.”)

(FROM THE ENDORSEMENT: The 3rd Congressional District, which includes much of the Northwest Side of Chicago, parts of suburban Cook County and some suburbs in the eastern part of DuPage County, is represented by Democrat Delia Ramirez, 43, who has served the district since 2023. Ramirez was unopposed in the primary, as was her opponent, former Winfield Village Trustee Angel Oakley, 50, who describes herself as “a conservative moderate who leads with American values, love, and compassion — seeking to bring people together around common-sense solutions.” We have had our issues with Ramirez, most notably when it comes to her slow condemnation of Hamas and when she said last year in Mexico City that she was “a proud Guatemalan before I’m an American,” hardly ideal rhetoric for a U.S.-born member of Congress who has sworn an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States. In an editorial at the time, we argued that Ramirez’s words “crossed the line between honoring heritage and undermining public trust,” although she did later attempt to walk them back. We’d also note that Ramirez, on the left flank of the Democratic Party, has worked hard to serve her district. She describes herself as “a staunch advocate of housing as a human right, healthcare for all, climate justice, and the fight to preserve and protect our democracy.” Oakley, though, does not occupy the right flank of her party; we think she would be a moderate very much in the political center. “Every dollar Congress spends should be tracked, audited, and posted online so taxpayers can see where it goes,” she told us, arguing that we should “get money out of politics so decisions are made for constituents, not donors.” She also said the U.S. should “back true free markets with real competition, so big companies can’t rig the game and small businesses can grow.” Agreed. “When government spends wisely and markets are fair,” she told us, “prices can come down and paychecks can go further.” We also appreciated her bipartisan approach: “I believe there are major issues where Americans across the political spectrum should be able to find common ground,” she told us. “The health and well-being of our children is one of them. Regardless of party, we should all want our kids to have access to healthy food and to grow up with clean air, clean water, and healthy soil. Those are not Republican values or Democratic values — they are fundamental to the health and future of our communities.” We differ with her on her support for Donald Trump’s tariffs, though, although she did say her support was nuanced. Elsewhere, in conversation, she outlined several other departures from Trumpian rhetoric and Republican orthodoxy with which we agree, and that should appeal to independents (and there are many) in this district. In conversation, Oakley told us that she meets initial resistance when she says the word “Republican,” especially in the city, but said she has managed to change several minds when she describes her independence. She also said that her extensive international experience in the corporate sector compensates for any lack of national political experience. With limited campaign funds compared to Ramirez, Oakley has a very tough path to victory. But she has our support. Angel Oakley is endorsed.)

He signed the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act in June 2019, making Illinois the 11th state to legalize recreational marijuana for adults 21 and older. Sales began Jan. 1, 2020. Pritzker and the General Assembly have continued to back the state’s legal cannabis market, where edibles such as gummies are sold to adults. The Illinois Family Institute has been one of the most prominent critics of that push. — A recent survey of journalists in America helped expose a hidden truth of the feminization of journalism: Female reporters now make up over two thirds of journalists under 30 and half of those over 30. Another study put female representation at 72% of all journalists. In researching this subject, I found a survey from 2017 showing women were around two thirds of journalists then. In comparison, in 1970 women made up only around 20% of U.S. reporters. As Journalism has becoming increasingly feminized, in direct correlation we have seen the changes in reporting from the more objective and fact-based to today’s more “woke” reporting. Feminization of the profession may best explain what so many decry and its exposure the motivation to fix the problem. First, men and women are different in ways that drastically effect the framing and reporting of stories. Multiple polls show men are far more likely to be opposed to censorship than women. Men are also far more tolerant of allowing the views of all sides in debates. One poll, for example, showed men were 3.5 times more tolerant than women for allowing speakers with of even opposing viewpoints to exercise free speech In a recent Pew Poll, men were found to be far more in favor of free speech than women, even when that speech is an opposing view and provocative. Women generally favor consensus and non-offensiveness over hard truth compared with men.

Her error-filled 1619 Project, which the American Federation of Teachers promoted in schools, likely in those very schools Hannah-Jones’s daughter attended (Update: was taught), claimed that America was fatally flawed from its foundation, and remained hopelessly flawed. Black people were victims. The only conclusion that could be reached from it was reparations and of course, reinforced affirmative action. That made it easy to not worry too much about the results coming out of the public schools, which Democrats running these cities don’t worry too much about as they throw more money at them. It would explain why promoting black children without merit, giving every kid an ‘A’ no matter how poorly they performed, could continue without any apparent consequences for the kids or the schools. If teachers could never be fired for failing to teach and kids would go on to college no matter what their preparation, why not just give all A’s? There would be no consequences either way and less attention from giving the A’s and passing the kids along to the next level.
