NBC5
— ‘Political Hit Job’: Rauner Responds to Harold Gay Adoption Controversy – Mary Ann Ahern (DIERSEN: Ever-increasingly, to be a Democrat is a) to promote LGBTQ activity and b) to destroy those who do not promote LGBTQ activity.)
https://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward-room/Political-Hit-Job-Rauner-Responds-to-Harold-Gay-Adoption-Controversy-476616963.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The recent controversy over what Erika Harold said while a contestant for the Miss Illinois pageant 18 years ago is a political hit job, Gov. Bruce Rauner said Monday. He said he still supports her candidacy for attorney general, but how do Rauner and his opponent Jeanne Ives stand on the issue of gay adoptions? “I’ve known Erika Harold for about five years,” Rauner said. “I have found her to be a person of great talent and integrity.” Harold has not released a public schedule since the NBC 5 report last week that when she competed in the pageant in 2000 and was asked if she had to choose to place a child in foster care with either a loving gay couple or a heterosexual couple who were known child abusers. Sources in the room that days said she selected the child abusers. “It’s a preposterous question and I know many loving, excellent parents who are gay couples–and that would be a good option,” Rauner said. Jeanie Ives responded to the question as well. “Nobody ever places any child in an abusive situation–period,” she said. The four sources with knowledge of the pageant, including a contestant who watched the videotaped interview, confirmed Harold’s response. Other officials have taken offense to the comment. “I know there are anti-gay people out there,” Democrat state Rep. Greg Harri said. “But the disturbing thing to me is that she would want a child to go into a family of abusers.” As for the state of the GOP race, while Rauner leads in the polls, Ives, who is fighting ads that link her to House Speaker Mike Madigan, believes she could score an upset. “We know the most motivated voters are the ones that are showing up at the poll,” she said. “And when that comes up–I’ll tell you what–that is real victory on March 20 for us.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: With a week to go before the primary election, Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner’s primary opponent state Rep. Jeanne Ives is scheduled to get as much as 30 minutes on TV this evening. WTTW-Ch. 11’s “Chicago Tonight” has a forum for the GOP governor candidates scheduled for 7 p.m. A Rauner campaign spokesman confirms the governor isn’t attending, and a spokeswoman for the station says Ives will be interviewed alone if he doesn’t show. That likely leaves the January Rauner vs. Ives matchup before the Tribune Editorial Board as their only joint appearance of the campaign, when she voiced the frustrations of conservative Republicans disappointed in Rauner on abortion and taxes.)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-daniel-biss-central-committee-20180313-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Democratic governor candidate Daniel Biss is exploring ways to help insurgent candidates for the state party’s leadership committee and challenge House Speaker Michael Madigan’s chairmanship. A Biss aide said the state senator from Evanston has talked with campaign attorneys about what fundraising mechanism could be used to assist challengers to about a dozen members the Democratic State Central Committee. The 36-member panel elects the party chairman. It’s made up of one man and one woman from each of Illinois’ 18 congressional districts, and the seats are on the primary ballot. There were no details yet on whether any arrangement had been made. Madigan has been actively backing current committee members seeking re-election. Such a move would be a furtherance of Biss’ effort to support progressive causes in his bid to gain support for governor from the more liberal wing of the Democratic Party. On Tuesday, he is expected to add endorsements from Indivisible groups in the Lakeview neighborhood and Oak Park. The Indivisible groups were formed in the wake of President Donald Trump’s election. Over the weekend, rival candidate Chris Kennedy said he believed the Democratic Party establishment should welcome such groups into the party fold but said they had been rebuffed. “It’s great to see Chris Kennedy wants progressive groups involved in the state party, especially since those progressive groups have overwhelmingly endorsed Daniel Biss for governor,” said Biss spokesman Tom Elliott.)

Of course, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes will watch very closely a) how many of the 504 registered voters in my DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 9 in Wheaton vote, b) how many of the registered Republican voters cast Republican primary ballots, c) how many of the registered Independent voters cast Republican primary ballots, c) how many of the registered Democrat voters cast Republican primary ballots, and d) how many votes that Rauner/Sanguinetti, Ives/Morthland, Harold, Grasso, Minor, Grant, Byrne, Mendrick, Bibbiano, McGowen, Almiron, Eckhoff, Zaruba, Tatro, Chinchilla, and Diersen get. Of course, as soon as my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes get the vote totals, they will hint/imply/argue/shout at the primary winners and at the primary losers that they got fewer votes because of me and because of my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: n a chilly Sunday afternoon, 69 American Government students from Metea Valley High School and Waubonsie Valley High School turned out to join with the League of Women Voters Naperville to encourage voters to participate in the March 20 primary elections. Five Naperville precincts were identified as having some of the lowest voter turnout in terms of the number of registered voters, so students went door to door in those precincts to encourage people to vote. Students returned with feedback from residents, some of it positive, and some of it negative. Some of the negative comments included, “Voting is too much effort,” “All politicians are liars.” Positive feedback included, “Voting is a way to have an impact on society,” and “I vote because I want to see good things happen in my country.” One resident told students, “I like it when you’re not selling anything,” to which the students replied, “We’re only selling Democracy.” After the March 20 election, students and their teachers will review voter turnout numbers to see if they were able to positively affect voter turnout in the precincts they visited.)

http://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180312/why-dupage-democrats-may-ask-some-county-board-nominees-to-drop-out-of-race
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Elizabeth Chaplin, the only Democrat on the county board, said candidates have been aware of the strategy since last summer. While she didn’t sign the pledge, Chaplin said she likely will step aside if she’s not the top vote-getter among the three Democrats seeking her party’s nod for two District 2 seats. The challenge, she said, is that Republicans normally pull about 20,000 ballots in DuPage primaries while Democrats pull only 5,000. If those numbers hold this year — and there are indications they might based on the number of campaign signs and the number of DuPage politicians who marched in recent parades — the Democrats’ chances of winning any board seat will drop dramatically unless they focus their efforts on a smaller number of races. “We can have more candidates on the ballot and lose or fewer candidates on the ballot and have a better chance of winning,” Chaplin said. While the plan was known in Democratic circles, it didn’t gain much public attention until John Basco, one of three Democrats seeking two seats in District 3, posted it on social media. Basco said he originally agreed to step down if he finished second in the primary, but has since changed his mind.)

DUPAGE POLICY JOURNAL
— BEYOND DISGUSTING, BEYOND TRAGIC: Bill on medical marijuana use in schools moves to House floor – Angela Underwood
https://dupagepolicyjournal.com/stories/511359254-bill-on-medical-marijuana-use-in-schools-moves-to-house-floor
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “I remember how this went down the first time when we approved using marijuana products for epilepsy and I was in favor of it, and then the sponsor who is here today immediately changed all the rules in a floor amendment that didn’t go back to committee,” Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) said, adding Lang was doing the same thing again. “Now we know what the intent is, and the intent is to eventually have school personnel be the ones who are administering this drug.” She called the bill a a “slippery slope,” though it was narrowly tailored to a child sitting before her at the witness panel with her parents. “We started with a four-year pilot program for medical marijuana, and we have made changes every single year since,” Ives said. “Now the concern quite frankly is that before you know it, it’s an edible not an oil, there are all sorts of other conditions and not just epilepsy and then it is administered by school nurses or other personnel.” Ives made it clear to the family that she will support the bill for them, but she “will be watching,” Lang for future changes in the bill that he may try to slip in. . .Prefacing his comments with the fact that he comes from the old school, Rep. John Cavaletto (R-Salem) remembers when marijuana had only a negative connotation before it was considered to be medically healing, however he still sees it as a problem. “I visited Colorado not too long ago and happened to be there for about five days and did walk from one restaurant back to my hotel every evening with my wife and I witnessed these people on the sidewalks, in the corner and on the grassy knolls are drugged out,” Cavaletto said. “That’s the side of marijuana I see.” He said he cannot seem to put it in his mind that of all the drugs now produced, medical marijuana is the only one that can control epileptic seizures for children, but his thoughts are countered by the parents that sat before him, making him reconsider the notion.)
— House panel backs bill making physicals for substitute teachers optional – Angela Underwood (DIERSEN: Democrats run the schools. Of course, if physicals are made optional, those Democrats will waive the requirement for Democrat applicants and impose the requirement on Republican applicants. Overwhelmingly, my superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates in the federal government who had serious health problems were Democrats.)
https://dupagepolicyjournal.com/stories/511359301-house-panel-backs-bill-making-physicals-for-substitute-teachers-optional
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) brought up the irony of having unfit substitute teacher supervising a gym class. “Nobody says you have to hire them,” Sherer said. Sherer said the bill was about giving more rights back to local control. “I agree with that too; however you have issues here because once you leave it open to interpretation by the school district then you are absolutely opening it up for discrimination, because they forced someone to get a physical or they declined them because they felt like they were not physically fit enough for the position,” Ives said. “Then you put them (school districts) in a conundrum, you see.” Next comes workers’ compensation problems, Ive said, noting if a substitute gets injured doing an exercise they are not up for, the school district could become liable; however, Scherer said it is “about local control and it is as simple as that.” After Ives voted no and left the meeting, Rep. Robert Pritchard (R-Hinckley) sought clarification on the bill, asking if Sherer was looking to temporarily waive the licensing in an effort to get needed teachers sooner and was told no; he then asked if the “teachers association and management alliance” approved the bill. “There are no opponents,” Sherer said. Rep. David Olsen (R-Downers Grove) said he was confused. “Maybe I am the only confused one whether it is evidence of physical fitness or a physical where I go to my doctor and I get a physical,” Olsen said. Sherer said it is not about how many sit-ups a substitute can perform or times they can run around the block, it is a money issue, alleviating the ancillary educator from coming up with even more funds than necessary to be certified. “I respect the concerns Rep. Ives had about workers’ comp and such, but you are correct we do have a teacher shortage and I think we need to take some steps to address that shortage,” Olsen said. Rep. John Cavaletto (R-Salem) shared Ives’ apprehension. “I really don’t like that,” Cavaletto, adding though he understands the shortage, that should not be a reason to exclude some substitutes from mandates teachers themselves are required to follow. He then asked about the cost of a physical, which Sherer said could cost up to $400, but physical or not a substitute would have to be free of communicable disease. “How many of those are there I wonder,” Cavaletto said. Though he was not thrilled with the bill, Cavaletto said he would support the bill due to the teacher shortage. The panel approved HB4706 and the bill moved to the House floor.)

NORTH COOK NEWS
— Katie Miller battles Springfield GOP machine in 53rd House District primary race – W.J. Kennedy (DIERSEN: This speaks volumes about the House Republican Organization.)
https://northcooknews.com/stories/511359238-miller-battles-springfield-gop-machine-in-53rd-house-district-primary-race
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Through the House Republican Organization (HRO), the Republican machine in Springfield is dumping hundreds of thousands of dollars into primary campaigns of their handpicked candidates. One of HRO’s toughest, more expensive campaigns is in the 53rd District against Mt. Prospect’s Katie Miller. The HRO’s candidate there is 29-year-old Eddie Corrigan. HRO has given over $150,000 to his campaign just since late February, according to Illinois State Board of Elections records. Corrigan lives with his father in Arlington Heights and has a colorful party history on full display on Facebook. The 39-year-old Miller is a registered nurse and married mother of three who pays nearly $10,000 a year in property taxes. In TV commercials and mailers, Corrigan’s HRO-funded campaign — just as with other HRO smears targeting those running against their handpicked candidates — is saying that Miller is a Democrat at heart and has ties to Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan. Miller, a self-described “across-the-board conservative,” calls the ads “outright lies.” “I was carrying posters for Republican candidates ever since I was 4,” Miller said. “I have never even met Madigan.” The Corrigan campaign has also criticized Miller for appealing her property taxes, describing the process as “shady.” Millions of homeowners in Cook County appeal their taxes each year, standard practice in a state with the highest property taxes in the nation. Corrigan doesn’t pay property taxes. After the hit ads against Miler, the Liberty Principles PAC financed mailers containing Facebook photos that show Corrigan in full party mode: one shows his head back chugging from a beer bottle, and another shows his tongue out and beer can in hand during a St. Patrick’s Day celebration; in others, he’s making an obscene gesture. A caption with the photos reads: “These are worth at least 1,000 words. But here are ten: We Have Enough Children In Springfield. Don’t Send Any More.” Corrigan refers to himself as a conservative, but in a debate with Miller he waffled on the issues, especially social ones. Miller says she will fight for the rollback of the 34 percent income tax hike approved last summer, the repeal of the taxpayer-funded abortion law (HB 40) Gov. Bruce Rauner signed in September and the repeal of the statewide “sanctuary” bill the governor signed in August. Other conservative primary candidates battling the HRO and their handpicked candidates include Marko Sukovic in the 59th District and Jillian Rose Bernas in the 56th District.)

GASTON GAZETTE
— What does a Republican look like anyway – Lewis Guignard (DIERSEN: In what ways are you a minority? In your precinct, in your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, in Illinois, in America, and in the world, are there more people who are a) anti-Trump than Trump supporters, b) anti-Protestant than Protestant, c) anti-conservative than conservative, d) anti-patriotic than patriotic, e) anti-Republican than Republican, f) anti-American than American, g) anti-White than White, h) anti-male than male, i) anti-older people than older people, j) anti-rich people than rich people, k) anti-gun owners than gun owners, l) anti-German Americans than German Americans, and m) anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors than those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time? Sadly for me, if not tragically for me, ever-increasingly, I am a minority in more and more and more ways. Ever-increasingly, the Republican Party dumps those who share my demographics.)
http://www.gastongazette.com/opinion/20180309/my-turn-what-does-republican-look-like-anyway
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Historically, discrimination has to do with a majority, or the politically powerful, keeping a minority under their heel. In the U.S. that has included women, Africans, Indians, Irish, Italians, Catholics, Jews and Chinese. More recently, but harder to identify, are the LBGT adherents. (If your favorite was left out, my apologies) In a nutshell, these groups have no choice about their identity, so laws about discriminating against them are understandable. But what is a Democrat or Republican or a Libertarian that one can complain they have a right to equal representation at the ballot box? Were they born that way? Is it a religious belief, or a demographic affliction which requires protections under the law? No, they are no different than a sports team, which one chooses, for various reasons, as the team they support. Can you tell the difference between a Democrat or Republican or a Constitutionalist by looking at them? Only if they’re working for their team near an election. Like Panther’s fans, they proudly show their affiliation. But that affiliation can easily change. Democrats become Republicans or independents and vice versa. On what then, do Democrats base their challenges to a gerrymandered district? They say they want an equal chance to win and the districting the legislatures have done, which appears legal under the Constitution, doesn’t give them those chances.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— 5 myths about gerrymandering – Ari Berman (DIERSEN: In 2015, to get rid of me, nasty vicious disgusting politicians succeeded in getting the DuPage County Election Commission (DCEC), the officers of the DuPage County Republican Central Committee (DCRCC), and the officers of the Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) to outrageously gerrymander my DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 9 in Wheaton. Without giving me a timely opportunity to object, the DCEC, DCRCC, and MTRCC took away about 100 residences from the west side of my precinct and gave me about 100 residences from the west side of Jeanne Ives’s precinct 86 to the east, including Ives’ residence. But then, they redrew Ives into Precinct 65 to the southeast, I am told, because she successfully insisted that be done. Nasty vicious disgusting politicians use gerrymandering to get rid of those like me a) who refuse to glorify and praise them, b) who refuse to pander to them, c) who refuse to serve as one of their operatives or dupes, or d) who refuse to give them money. I should have sued them; maybe I still can.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: President Obama did a lot of bad things, but pound for pound, one of the worst was the January 2014 “Dear Colleague” letter sent jointly by his Education and Justice Departments to all public schools threatening lawsuits over racial discrimination in student discipline. The letter came after years of his administration browbeating schools for their failure to discipline every race of student at the same rate. As the Huffington Post put it: “American Schools Are STILL Racist, Government Report Finds.” The evidence? “Five percent of white students were suspended annually, compared with 16 percent of black students, according to the report.” Q.E.D. According to theory, there’s NO WAY blacks and Hispanics are doing things that require more school discipline than whites or Asians. So if more black students are expelled than Asians, well, gentlemen, we have our proof of racism. To comply, schools would have to stop suspending black kids for breaking a teacher’s jaw, but suspend Asians for dropping an eraser.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Rauner primary challenger state Rep. Jeanne Ives called for a vote on her proposal to expand protections for those who accuse a state lawmaker or employee of ethics violations. “We want this done now,” Ives said at a Tuesday news conference in Springfield. “We don’t want this to sit until the end of May. We want this bill out and on the floor and operable immediately.” The bill says that legislative and executive inspectors general must give certain information to people filing complaints, including a receipt when a complaint is filed, notification of an investigation, a summary of evidence and a report of decisions made during an investigation. It also gives the accuser the right to testify at hearings and would expedite the process if allegations concern sexual harassment. Appearing with Ives was victims right advocate Denise Rotheimer, who in October publicly accused Sen. Silverstein of sexually harassing her through text and social media messages while she was working with him to pass legislation. “Currently, we have no rights,” Rotheimer said. “We need to make this process transparent, we need to make it fair and as just as possible, because complaints like mine are very personal.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Like a growing number of restaurants and bars around Illinois, Don Carter Lanes in Rockford offers video gaming for customers over the age of 21. “These games have become such an important part of our business model now that we’re doing everything we can to keep minors out,” said Sommer. But Sommer says his best efforts might not be enough in an undercover sting. Under the law, sting operations can send in a minor to a bar or restaurant with video gaming. If the minor plays a machine before a waitress or manager can check their ID, lawmakers say that business could be fined up to $5,000. “By the time they can walk over there and tell the person they have to leave, they could have easily gotten one bet in and that was never the intent,” said Republican Senator Dave Syverson. http://www.dailyherald.com/submitted/20180306/cod-student-participates-in-prestigious-accounting-internship
(FROM THE ARTICLE: College of DuPage student Benjamin Hamgeri recently took part in the prestigious Mary T. Washington Wylie Accounting Internship Preparation Program. Sponsored by the Illinois CPA Society, the program is for African American and other underrepresented students who have at least a 3.0 GPA and a sophomore or junior standing. Hamgeri was one of only 25 college or university students in Illinois selected to participate, with each receiving a $500 scholarship. The Bensenville resident heard about the program from COD Accounting Professor Maureen McBeth. “I owe it all to her,” he said. “She is such a great teacher and approached me about this opportunity, which I had not heard about before.” During the three-day training program, held at the beginning of the year, participants networked with peers and listened to presentations from professionals at the major accounting firms in Chicago. Hamgeri also toured Grant Thornton, one of the city’s top firms, and gained valuable interviewing tips. “Everyone was enthusiastic to be there, and it was great to speak with people working in the field,” he said. “On the last day, we had a chance to interview with different accounting firms for 20 minutes each. It was good to find out what they look for when hiring, and the experience encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone.” Although his brother is an accountant and his mother studied accounting, Hamgeri initially wanted to do something else for a career. “I was interested in business but not sure what specific area to study,” he said. “I was at Illinois State University but I really didn’t want to go to college, so I returned home to refocus. Although my sister came to College of DuPage, I didn’t want to because I didn’t want to attend what I thought was just a bigger version of my high school. I found that COD is so much more.” Taking classes with McBeth helped Hamgeri see accounting the right career for him. “I never had a teacher take so much interest in me, going the extra mile to help me develop as a student,” he said. “She made me realize how prestigious accounting was. The stigma is that you sit at your desk all day. Instead, accounting is a form of communication — it’s the language of business. It tells you whether or not your business will succeed, and it’s always changing.” Hamgeri plans to become a CPA but is still determining what area of accounting to pursue. Because of College of DuPage, he is optimistic about school and his future. “COD helped relieved the pressure of attending a large university,” he said. “It’s much easier to focus here and everyone’s door is open, from meeting with professors to finding a tutor. I’ve learned to ask questions and not be afraid of what other people say. “At COD, you’re getting a good education. And if you are enthusiastic and hungry to learn more, the world is yours.”)

March 5 Morning Edition

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— FRONT PAGE WITH COLOR PICTURE: As Ives hits the road against Rauner, her firebrand reputation precedes her – Kim Geiger
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-jeanne-ives-republican-governor-campaign-trail-20180301-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: To a large extent, Ives is testing how the DuPage County brand of conservatism plays on the statewide stage. Still focused on abortion and immigration on the campaign trail, she’s dialed back the Alan Keyes-style bomb throwing, even if she’s still not exactly Henry Hyde, the late longtime congressman and abortion rights opponent from Wood Dale who was praised for his ability to disagree without being disagreeable. . .In Peoria, Ives’ digression from abortion to education was in part an attempt to illustrate she cares enough about policy matters to dig into the details, unlike Rauner, who she says has been a “disinterested” governor. Still, Ives’ reputation precedes her, and audiences expect to hear from an aggressive, intense politician. . .It’s that segment of the party that’s now backing Ives’ bid. Chief among them is Dan Proft, a morning radio talk show host and longtime political operative with ties to the Illinois Policy Institute, a libertarian think tank. Proft’s campaign funds have counted as top donors both Rauner, who he’s now opposing, and Lake Forest businessman Richard Uihlein, who jump-started Ives’ campaign with $2.5 million. Introducing Ives at a McHenry County fundraiser early last month, Proft recounted how he’d soured on the governor, who he said had shown a failure to understand “that elections are the means to policy ends.” “I was a supporter of Bruce Rauner’s, I’m a friend of Bruce Rauner’s, I like Bruce,” Proft said, noting that Rauner had donated $4.5 million over the years to Proft’s super political action committee. “But here’s the thing. If you’re going to betray the Republican Party, if you’re going to lie to people, if you’re going to advance the flag of the left, then I don’t need your money and neither does the Republican Party.” Proft called Ives a “once-in-a-generation candidate,” generating cheers from the more than 100 people who snacked on crudites and croissant sandwiches beneath the vaulted wooden rafters of a tony county club near Woodstock. . .Ives, whose turn to speak came after dinner was served and once the governor was long gone, gave a pointed pitch. “You have a choice. This is a governor who doesn’t understand what it means to be a Republican,” Ives said. “We have to take the fight to the Democrats, I do agree with him on that. But Gov. Rauner is the wrong vehicle for that.” Ives offered her usual critique of the governor, and contended that he’d be unable to win the general election without enthusiastic support from conservatives. “The truth is our caucus does not trust him,” Ives said. “And when you can’t trust a commander, then you’ve got to worry about going to battle for him because you’re not sure he has your back.”)
— Rep. Lipinski warns Democrats of ‘tea party of the left’ – Rick Pearson (DIERSEN: Democrats would say the Lipinski is a DINO (Democrat in Name Only). To be a Democrat is to be a morale relativist who believes that their end justifies their end. To be a Democrat is to be a disciple of Saul Alinsky. To be a Democrat is to promote dependency on government, dependency on charity, LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, booze, gambling, pot and other vices, abolition of the First and Second Amendments, patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, retaliation, and even worse things. To be a Democrat is to be anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-patriotic, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, anti-draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), and anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors.)

— Ives ad compares Rauner to Obama: Republican state Rep. Jeanne Ives’ campaign said Sunday it is up with a new TV ad that compares Gov. Rauner to former Democratic President Barack Obama. “Bruce Rauner lies so much he reminds us of another Chicago politician,” a narrator says. The ad then cuts to a June 15, 2009, clip of Obama talking about a concept of the Affordable Care Act that didn’t happen. “If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor. Period,” Obama says. It’s unclear how widespread Ives’ ad will appear. No new advertising contracts for Ives have been posted by Chicago TV stations or cable since last month. – Rick Pearson

DAILY NORTHWESTERN
— Rauner, Ives face off in Republican gubernatorial primary – Kristina Karisch (DIERSEN: What are your approval and disapproval ratings, and what reasons do raters give for those ratings? Those who disapprove of me parrot the nasty, if not vicious, if not slanderous things that my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes say about me. A Morning Consult poll released in January found that Rauner held a 31 percent approval rating in the last quarter of 2017, and a disapproval rating of 55 percent for that same time period.)

https://www.wsj.com/articles/a-new-business-takes-on-fake-news-1520189066
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The internet broke down barriers by enabling everyone to become a publisher. The unintended consequence was the fake-news epidemic. Teenagers in Macedonia discovered they could make a small fortune from online advertising by concocting outlandish clickbait stories. RT.com, one of the top news sources on YouTube, doesn’t disclose that it is funded by the Russian government, and in 2009 changed its name from Russia Today. One cause of the problem is the weakening of news brands, an effect of social media and search engines. A 2017 study by the Reuters Institute and Oxford, “I Saw the News on Facebook , ” found that most people couldn’t remember the news brand of stories they accessed through social media. That makes it easy for purveyors of knowingly false news or propaganda to fool users by looking like legitimate news publishers. A site called “Denver Guardian” was set up before the 2016 election to show how easy it is to publish knowingly false stories, according to its founder. Before the internet, displays of newspapers and magazines featured well-known brands. No one mistook the National Enquirer for the Philadelphia Inquirer. The internet often feels like a mass of pages ripped out of publications and scattered randomly on the floor.)

My father was the first of his ancestors to earn a high school diploma. My mother never attended high school. I spent my junior and senior years and the summer in between washing dishes for the minimum wage in the basement of the S.S. Kresges in Chicago Heights. To this day, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes remain beyond furious that IRS promoted me to GS-9 (currently $55,905) in 1972, to GS-11 (currently $67,638) in 1973, and to GS-12 (currently $81,071) in 1974.)

GOVERNING
— The Widening Cost-of-Living Gap Expenses in different regions are diverging more now than in the recent past. – MIKE MACIAG (DIERSEN: The cost of living in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, and in DuPage County is very high. What did you do to qualify yourself for better paying jobs? I earned a) a job-related bachelor’s degree when I was 21 in 1970 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) a job-related professional license when I was 32. I was able to do the aforesaid notwithstanding the fact that my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always viciously demonized, denigrated, and condemned me as being stupid, lazy, and worse things. http://variety.com/2018/politics/news/oscars-politics-trump-1202717310/

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Stars wore Times Up buttons, Twitter bought a MeToo inspired ad, Walmart and Nike channeled diversity and empowerment, presenters were at the ready with statements. There was even an Oscar salute to activism, via the Oscar nominated song “Stand Up for Something,” sung by Common and Andra Day and introduced by Dave Chappelle. “If you are a nominee tonight who isn’t making history, shame on you,” Kimmel said in his opening monologue, a nod to the anticipation of a more diverse set of nominees and the show’s hopes of social change ahead. He urged winners to say whatever they wanted — whether it be on sexual harassment or gun violence — but he also jokingly offered a Jet Ski to anyone who gave the shortest speech.)

https://gopillinois.com
(THE ARTICLE: In the November 8, 2016 general election, Trump got just 137 (39%) votes and Clinton got 211 (61%) votes in my DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 9 in Wheaton. What percent of the votes in the March 20, 2018 Republican primary in your precinct do you predict that Ives and Rauner will get? Will the results mirror the November 8, 2016 general election? Will those who voted for Trump, vote for Ives? Will those who voted for Clinton, vote for Rauner? QUESTION: Which voters are going to vote for Ives? ANSWER: Those who do not hate Trump, those who do not hate conservatives, those who do not hate Republicans, and those who support the traditional family, right to life, immigration, and/or other planks in the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) platform. Those who will vote for Ives count on her to protect Trump supporters, conservatives, Republicans and especially those who support the traditional family, right to life, immigration, and/or other planks in the IRP platform. QUESTION: Which voters are going to vote for Rauner? ANSWER: Those who hate Trump, those who hate conservatives, those who hate Republicans, those who hate government employees, those who hate unions, past union members, current union members, and future union members, and those who reject the traditional family, right to life, immigration, and/or other planks in the IRP platform. http://www.news-gazette.com/opinion/columns/2018-03-04/austin-berg-yes-speaker-madigan-you-have-culture-problem.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Hampton shed a clear light on what’s kept the toxic Statehouse culture afloat for decades: loyalty and fear. Look at the bizarre remarks from Alderman Pat O’Connor, Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s floor leader in Chicago City Council, when asked if Madigan should step down from his state Democratic Party chairmanship. “If the allies had pulled Eisenhower out of his position when the troops were landing on Normandy, you would take the head of those forces and throw those forces into disarray,” he said. “If you look at the state party and feel that it’s important that we elect individuals that the party has backed, then you wouldn’t take your leadership out when you’re about to have the election.” Victims be damned; can’t you see it’s an election year? Notably, Madigan’s list only included cases within the Legislature. It did not include any instances reported in the campaign world, where the speaker is the only legislative leader in the nation to also serve as the state party chairman. Madigan’s deflection of responsibility regarding Statehouse culture is insulting to the men and women who have put up with a toxic work environment in Springfield and in political offices across the state. Organizational culture comes from the top. And no one has been at the top longer than Madigan. He is the longest-serving state legislative leader in American history.)

BLOOMINGTON PANTAGRAPH
— Exemption shades the bigger picture with Madigan – Editorial (DIERSEN: Because my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes know that I am litigious, they avoid putting things in writing that incriminate them. Further, they put in writing their pretextural reasons that they use to justify their taking adverse actions against me.)
http://www.pantagraph.com/opinion/editorial/editorial-exemption-shades-the-bigger-picture-with-madigan/article_abf77596-0fd2-5bc3-9ae1-fc9744003f65.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Would having access to the correspondence of House Speaker Michael Madigan, D-Chicago, shed light on his handling of sexual harassment allegations by associates? We don’t know — and it’s designed that way because the documents of Madigan, like all Illinois lawmakers, are exempt from the state Freedom of Information Act. The legislation, enacted in 1984, is a critical tool to ensure our public bodies are transparent and that, to quote the act, “all persons are entitled to full and complete information regarding the affairs of government and the official acts and policies of those who represent them as public officials and public employees.” That sounds good, but the General Assembly has elected to exclude one noteworthy group from disclosure rules — lawmakers themselves. The argument is legislators deal with sensitive constituent issues and share draft legislation that are negotiating documents. (Congress has a similar exemption and cites similar logic.) That means a citizen can get, say, five years’ worth of internal emails of the local township cemetery board, the calendar of Gov. Bruce Rauner and any other documents related public business, but can’t see any paperwork for our elected citizen legislature. For Madigan, that also means all correspondence is exempt for his two high-profile positions — as speaker, which he’s held since 1983, and as head of the state Democratic party, his position since 1998. Such a blank exemption bars the public from getting a full picture about what Madigan knew and when he knew it about the allegations. In one, a political consultant is accused of sending sexual text messages to a female staffer. Another consultant was removed because of inappropriate behavior involving a candidate in 2016, Madigan’s office said.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Rest. Sleep is when your mind and body reorient themselves for the day to come. The right amount of good quality sleep helps properly regulate hormone levels related to stress, muscle recovery, and mood. Similarly, quiet periods of rest and thought are proven to be the most fertile times for creativity and problem-solving. Pushing ourselves to be productive every waking moment can be counterproductive. Make time to let your mind wander, and you may stumble upon a great new idea, artistic project, or good friend. Long-term rest and recovery refer to a seasonal training program that builds in days or weeks of time away from strenuous exercise. I recommend these longer breaks, called vacations or retreats because you will benefit from more sleep, more varied pursuits and the freedom to explore new interests.)

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2018/03/03/durbin-says-americans-homeland-must-be-a-nation-of-immigrants-forever/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: But if America must be “a nation of immigrants,” then Americans and their children are not allowed to have a normal nation of assimilated citizens or even normal pocketbook politics, said John Fonte, director of Center for American Common Culture at the D.C.-based Hudson Institute. In a nation of immigrants — legal and illegal — politics is all about enforced “Diversity” where a central elite treats people as members of competing identity groups and then balances each group against the others to achieve desired results, such as a desired percentage of women serving as fighter pilots in the U.S. Navy, Fonte said. In contrast, people in a nation of citizens — both native-borns and assimilated immigrants — are free to participate in the “normal give-and-take of bread-and-butter politics,” in local, state and federal levels, he said.)

WASHINGTON TIMES

— Rauner’s budget out of tune with reality – Bill Knight

http://www.washingtontimesreporter.com/news/20180301/knight-rauners-budget-out-of-tune-with-reality

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois’s Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner returned to a tired, failed refrain in his Feb. 14 budget address: attacking unions, retirees and schools. It’s the same old song and dance. His latest budget proposes that the state escape some of its pension obligations by shifting their responsibility to local school districts and colleges, and that lawmakers dramatically cut health care. Seeking to spend $37.6 billion from projected revenues of $38 billion, Rauner contrives $1.3 billion in savings by abandoning pension contributions and leaving those to local schools. It’s mostly an accounting gimmick since taxpayers would still be underwriting the programs, but it’d be through local property taxes, not state taxes. So the ploy would take $1.3 billion off the state’s balance sheet, and then burden local schools with the spending.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Poll shows Gov. Rauner trailing Democratic opponents in Illinois – Politico: “With roughly three weeks until the Illinois primary election and more than $100 million of their personal funds already invested, billionaire Democrat J.B. Pritzker and multi-millionaire Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner hold double-digit leads against their respective primary challengers, according to a new poll by the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute. But the results suggest Rauner, considered one of the most vulnerable incumbents in the nation, is in serious jeopardy of being denied a second term in November. Both Pritzker and Democrat state Sen. Daniel Biss are ahead of the governor by double-digits in general election match-ups tested by the Carbondale-based institute. … General election match-ups show Pritzker would beat Rauner by 15 points and Biss would beat Rauner by 14. The poll didn’t ask about a prospective Kennedy-Rauner match-up.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: “I think if you can’t remember how many houses you have, you probably are not qualified to be the governor of the state of Illinois,” Kennedy continued, in a lightly-veiled shot at Pritzker. But Kennedy didn’t go so far as to agree with Biss. “I don’t think Americans believe in class warfare and I think for Sen. Biss to introduce that notion that somehow success in life disqualifies people from higher office, I think that’s wrong-headed and un-American,” he said. And on the Republican side, while Rauner’s nine properties – including his Winnetka mansion, two condos in Chicago, two Montana ranches, a Wyoming farm, a Utah condo, a New York penthouse and a beachfront Florida home – made headlines in 2014, his primary opponent state Rep. Jeanne Ives, owns just one residence in suburban Wheaton. Regardless of how many homes the candidates may own, the one that wins election – not just the March primary, but the general in November – will have one more home to live in: the Springfield governor’s mansion.)
