Taking a closer look at some of those tight races in which Naperville voters weighed in: Currently incumbent Democrat William “Bill” White is holding a 2,715 vote lead over challenger Bob Grogan in the race for auditor. In the race for coroner, Democrat Judith Lukas has a slightly larger lead over incumbent Republican Richard Jorgensen, with 5,388 more votes. For the District 3 county board seat, incumbent Democrat Lucy Chang Evans holds a 2,702 vote lead over Republican Baron Leacock. The District 5 county board seat has wider margins, with Democrat Saba Haider with an 8,421 vote lead over incumbent Republican Patty Gustin. But there’s a closer divide for the District 6 county board seat, with Democrat incumbent Greg Schwarze 2,170 votes ahead of Republican challenger Joe Soto. And the tightest race of all is the District 6 Forest Preserve District of DuPage County seat, with Democrat Rick Gieser just 29 votes ahead of Republican incumbent Al Murphy. Official results for DuPage County races will be released on Tuesday, Nov. 19. “A week later, those results will be certified,” Kaczmarek said. DuPage County sees slight dip in voter turnout compared to 2020. DuPage County saw a 72.54% voter turnout for the 2024 general election, a decrease from the 76.55% turnout in 2020. The number of county residents utilizing vote-by-mail decreased from 177,730 in 2020 to 105,090 in 2024. But the number of in-person early voters in the county went up, with 210,419 this year compared to 190,964 in 2020.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: It was all shock and bewilderment on Harvard’s campus today as news circulated that former President Donald Trump had won back the White House. While Harvardians are still struggling to understand the win, their very confusion is entirely predictable. Of course we are shocked that Trump has won: we study at a single-party school. With just over five percent of Harvard’s Class of 2027 identifying as Republican according to the Crimson’s freshman survey, it’s hard to overstate how politically homogeneous our campus is. You’d probably have a better chance of finding a Republican at the Democratic National Convention than in Harvard Yard. It is possible that a Harvard undergraduate — especially in a progressive concentration — could go through an entire semester not engaging with a single conservative classmate or professor. And with critiques of Harvard’s free speech culture widespread, even when Republicans are represented in the classroom, it’s conceivable that their views might be stifled. This lack of exposure to truly diverse perspectives is antithetical to Harvard’s mission of educating “the citizens and citizen-leaders for our society.” The College has long understood this commitment to require diverse representation of those citizens — we even fought all the way to the Supreme Court to defend this ideal.)

They can afford to hire tutors for their children. They can afford to fund ancillary costs associated with the clubs or organizations their children are able to participate in. They can afford to enroll their children in SAT preparation courses. They can afford to fund college education for their children. More Time – Many of the children raised in poor households are, at some point, called upon to help pull the cart – they must find work to help support the family. This limits how much time they have to do anything else. Those raised in wealthier households do not have this need. Thus, wealthy kids have more time to study, more time to participate in school clubs and more time to spend building long-lasting relationships with their wealthy friends. These long-lasting relationships pay dividends down the road. Finding a job is easier – just reach out to one of your childhood friends, and ask them to open a door for you. Formal Education – Wealthy kids often attend expensive private schools. These schools are more focused on preparing their students for college. As a result, almost 100% of graduates from private high schools attend college. Conversely, only about 16 per cent of low-income students graduate college. Success Peer Pressure – Children raised in wealthy households are expected to go to college and sometimes graduate school. In the minds of their wealthy parents, this tees their kids up to find better, higher-paying jobs, upon graduation. In these wealthy enclaves, this becomes a shared expectation wherein everyone within these rich neighborhoods is on a similar path – the pursuit of a college and/or a graduate school education. This “Herd Doctrine” has a very powerful gravitational pull that directs the behavior of those inside the “rich neighborhood herd”.)

They always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance. They forced me to take their early retirement “offer” when I was 49 in 1997.
