— The MSM Is Right: There Is a Racist Party in America – Tom Trinko
http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2016/11/the_msm_is_right_there_is_a_racist_party_in_america.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The mainstream media (MSM) are right.  There is a political party today that has racism as a core value and is working incessantly to keep blacks down.  It’s the Democratic Party.  Of course, since Democrat politicians never say what they really believe, most Democrat voters aren’t aware they’re supporting racism. Like their predecessors who fought a war to keep slavery legal, who founded the KKK, who passed the Jim Crow laws, who fought for school segregation, and who opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, modern Democrat politicians are constantly working to ensure that blacks be poor, ignorant, and totally dependent on the government. Slave-owning Democrats believed that blacks were not really smart enough to run their own lives. Modern Democrat talking heads constantly declare that in a country where Japanese Americans could go from Democrat-mandated prison camps to having one of the highest per household incomes in America, without Democrat help, blacks somehow can’t manage to do anything.  It’s the same paternalistic attitude that earlier Democrats used to justify slavery. Of course, the new slavery is different from the old: instead of picking cotton for hours in the blazing sun, modern blacks only have to vote Democrat, settle for unsafe neighborhoods, and be willing to live with the fact that their children will never get a decent education.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Lazy is a pretty good way to describe much of the press coverage of Trump. Many of the newspaper, magazine and online news reporters and TV hosts, like Megyn Kelly (a reported $ 9 million a year) are part of the elite, self-absorbed celebrity class. Walk though the newsroom of the New York Times, the  Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, Time, the New Yorker or The Atlantic and you’ll run into scads of graduates from the top three journalism schools (Missouri, Northwestern and Columbia) and Ivy Leaguers. They are not deplorables.)

NATIONAL REVIEW
— The Privilege That Wasn’t – ERICKA ANDERSEN  (DIERSEN: Are you White?  My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes, virtually all of whom are White, have always attributed the successes that I have had in life to my being White, that is, to White privilege.  They shout that I have never been adversely impacted by political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, or age discrimination.)
http://www.nationalreview.com/article/442208/white-privilege-donald-trump-voters-election-lessons-race
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The experience of many white people across the country is the opposite of privilege. Many of those in the public eye have assigned “privilege” to all white people. Recently, I’ve seen several people share a quote on social media that reads, “When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression.” The assertion is that Trump voters don’t recognize their privilege over marginalized groups seeking equality. But quite a few people are missing a big part of the picture. For a good many white people in the U.S., “privilege” is not a word they relate to. And equality — as far as attention to the problems they are facing — is something they too want our leaders to give them. And it’s hard for members of the media, the cultural elite, and many minority groups to grasp that. The intent in focusing on white privilege (which I do believe is real for many) is not wrong — but it’s sometimes misguided. To understand where that focus has gone wrong is not to downplay the very real problems that do face minority groups in this country. But let’s talk about another side of the coin when it comes to white privilege. Part of what drove the Trump takeover of 2016 was the fact that liberal culture is obsessed with identity politics based on race and sex, having all but forgotten anyone who isn’t a racial, ethnic, or sexual minority — and the bread-and-butter issues that exist outside of those categories.  Classism is a very real thing too — and this year, the white working class of America stood up and said very loudly: You’ve forgotten about us.)

AMERICAN THINKER
— The ‘progressives’ are sending intimidating emails (in Illinois Congressional District 10) threatening to ‘out’ you – Ed Lasky
http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2016/11/the_progressives_are_sending_intimidating_emails_threatening_to_out_you.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: I happen to live in a suburb and district that, too often, votes for Democrats (Illinois 10th, where we are currently represented by a Republican, Bob Dold). This year people in my suburb are getting mailed notices with their names on top and underneath their names, in bold print,  “Official Voting Record”.  What follows is a rundown on the history of the recipients’ voting record since 2008 in general elections — not who they voted for but whether they voted. Underneath that record is a notification that, while your vote may be secret, whether or not you vote is a matter of public record. . .The mailing continues: This year we’re sending you and your neighbors those records to help you keep track of your civic participation. How would your friends, family and neighbors feel if they saw your voting record and knew you were an infrequent voter”  Do your part and make a plan to vote on Tuesday, November 8th. In small fine print is a notice that the mailing was paid for by the “Progressive Turnout Project” and not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee. However, if one turns to the website of the group, http://www.turnoutpac.org/, one can see in bold headlines “Connecting with voters and getting Democrats to the polls.” At the bottom of the first page is a local P.O. Box address, leading one to think (wrongly) that the group is truly a local, grassroots effort-as they pitch themselves to be. That would be, naturally, a lie. Clicking through the website will show no names of who is running and funding this project, but one will see the races they are targeting across the country. They are in battleground districts with a substantial number of Democrats. Every single politician this group is targeting is a Republican. This “grassroots group” is no such thing and though it may boast it is some sort of civic group that is not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee, it is in reality an AstroTurf (fake grassroots) group, funded by the Democratic Party or its allies to increase the turnout of people who will likely vote Democratic. My friend who shared the mailing with me is not registered as a Democrat or Republican. I am registered as a Republican and did not get the mailing. Clearly the mailing was geared towards increasing the number of votes for the Democrat running in my district, since it is likely that people who are not registered as Republicans would be inclined to vote Democratic. As mentioned above, this district is very mixed between Republicans and Democrats. If you exclude from the mailings registered Republicans, the group increases the odds that their mailings can intimidate people into going to the polls and voting Democratic.  But what is most offensive is the intimidation and threat of exposure (blackmail?) to one’s friends, family and neighbors that you chose not to vote. This tactic is underhanded and repugnant-something that should not surprise since the Democratic Party, as Kimberly Strassel has written in her outstanding book, “The Intimidation Game” and as Project Veritas Action has shown with its videos, specialize in intimidation.)

https://www.eparisextra.com/all-business/114668/its-national-save-for-retirement-week-so-take-action__trashed
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Congress has dedicated the third week of October as National Save for Retirement Week. Clearly, the government feels the need to urge people to do a better job of preparing for retirement. Are you doing all you can? Many of your peers aren’t – or at least they think they aren’t. In a recent survey conducted by Bankrate.com, respondents reported that “not saving for retirement early enough” was their biggest financial regret. Other evidence seems to show they have good cause for remorse: 52% of households 55 and older haven’t saved anything for retirement, according to a report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office, although half of this group reported having a pension. Obviously, you’ll want to avoid having either financial regrets or major shortfalls in your retirement savings. And that means you may need to consider making moves such as these: Take advantage of all your opportunities. You may well have access to more than one tax-advantaged retirement plan. Your employer may offer a 401(k) or similar plan, and even if you participate in your employer’s plan, you are probably still eligible to contribute to an IRA. You may not be able to afford to “max out” on both plans, but try to contribute as much as you can afford. At the very least, put in enough to your employer’s plan to earn a matching contribution, if one is offered, and boost your annual contributions every year in which your salary goes up.)

With unemployment low, many companies are struggling to pull in and retain dedicated young workers with good skills, and increasingly they are eyeing help with student loans as a means to stand out as an employer, said Gary Kushner, president of Kushner & Co. a Michigan-based benefits consulting firm. While large companies such as Fidelity Investments and PriceWaterhouseCoopers have received national attention for providing the new benefit, small and medium-size companies are especially interested in it as a retention tool, he said. “If you are fortunate enough to get skills and the right cultural fit, you want to hold onto the person as long as you can,” said Kushner. He noted that retailers especially face a struggle. About 4 percent of employers have been offering student loan repayment help this year, according to a Society for Human Resource Management survey of employers. Americans have about $1.2 trillion in student loan debt and about half of those with loans have monthly payments that are excessive based on their incomes, according to a study by the U.S. Government Accountability Office. Academic research has shown the pressure of college loans is causing some millennials to delay marriage, children and home purchases. . .The company also is offering a tuition reimbursement program for some employees who pursue education while working and gives 30 college scholarships of $3,000 each to children of employees. Helping employees pursue education while on the job is not a new benefit. In contrast to the new perk aimed at new workers with student loans, the old programs were designed to increase skills of existing employees. According to the Society for Human Resource Management, tuition reimbursement programs for employees who go to undergraduate or master’s programs have been cut back in recent years. In 2012, 58 percent of employers were offering the benefit to employees going to graduate school. In 2016, that had dropped to 52 percent. For undergraduate tuition, 61 percent were giving benefits in 2012, but that had dropped to 55 percent in 2016. Tanya Mulvey, researcher for the human resources group, said that employers have been looking for ways to cut some benefit costs to make up for the extra cost of health insurance. The average tuition reimbursement per employee per year was $4,442 in 2016, she said. Companies offering tuition reiumbursements can receive a tax deduction.)

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20161102/NEWS02/161109955/illinois-pension-woes-are-not-so-bad-after-all
(FROM THE ARTICLE: New Jersey became the state with the worst-funded public pension system in the U.S. in 2015, followed closely by Kentucky and Illinois. The Garden State had $135.7 billion less than it needs to cover all the benefits that have been promised, a $22.6 billion increase over the prior year, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Illinois’s unfunded pension liabilities rose to $119.1 billion from $111.5 billion. The two were among states whose retirement systems slipped further behind as rock-bottom bond yields and lackluster stock-market gains caused investment returns to fall short of targets. The median state pension had 74.5 percent of assets needed to meet promised benefits, down from 75.6 percent the prior year. The decline followed two years of gains. The shortfall for states overall was $1.1 trillion in 2015.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: This being the election year of the conspiracy theory, allow me to let you in on a couple of the better ones floating around the Land of Lincoln. They’re not quite as provocative as tales about who’s really pulling FBI chief James Comey’s strings, or what Vladimir Putin promised Donald Trump. But anything that involves Bruce Rauner, Mike Madigan, zillions of TV ad dollars and hidden income tax returns reaches a certain level of interest. Story No. 1 concerns the big super PAC that state Sen. Dan Biss put together, the one no one had heard of until a couple of weeks ago, when it suddenly started spending big money—now $10 million or so—on ads tying Gov. Rauner to the GOP presidential nominee, who may be popular in some places but not in most of Illinois.)

— Election ‘environment’ portends GOP losses – RUSS STEWART  (DIERSEN: What class are you in? (1) the won’t haves; (2) the entitlement class; (3) the keep what I haves; (4) the haves; or the (5) the wealthy?)
http://nadignewspapers.com/2016/11/02/election-environment-portends-gop-losses/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Instead of having to plow through 1,500 words to ascertain this columnist’s Nov. 8 predictions, here is the list, in the first paragraph: Hillary Clinton, Tammy Duckworth, Susana Mendoza, Brad Schneider, a Democratic U.S. Senate majority, a narrow Republican U.S. House majority, Mike Madigan and a 68-50 House majority, Laura Murphy, a Cook County Democratic tsunami, and, in an oddity, Republican state Representative Mike McAuliffe. The biggest loser will be Bruce Rauner, and the biggest winner will be the status quo. On Nov. 9 the nationwide and Illinois political environment will be barely different from Nov. 8. Environment. In real estate, success in selling famously is determined by location, location, location. In politics, success in winning is determined by environment, environment, environment. The end of the 2016 election campaign is decidedly un-Trump, non-Trump and anti-Trump. Being a Democrat in a Democratic-friendly nation, state or district, is the ticket to victory. That was not always so. The campaign, which began in mid-2015, shaped up as an anti-status quo year. It is ending as a status quo year. There is so much wrong in America and with America — the economy, the political system, the criminal justice system, wealth allocation, the health care system, the education system and the country’s foreign policy. Should not the Obama-Clinton Administration be held accountable? It’s not. It’s all just sound and fury. Up until the 1990s the country was divided between the haves and the have nots. Now it’s schismed between (1) the won’t haves, essentially the Millennial generation, which has maximum debt and minimal job opportunities and which views income redistribution as the solution; (2) the entitlement class, which includes retirees and all those who receive some income from some government source; (3) the keep what I haves, primarily the working class, struggling to pay their bills and affected the most by crime, property taxes and neighborhood change; (4) the haves, those families earning more than $100,000, spending more than they make, worth maybe $1 million, and worried about the future; and (5) the wealthy, the infamous top 1 percent, whose net worth is $10 million and up. Of those demographic sectors, only two in 2016 sought to upset the status quo, the Millennials, who embraced Bernie Sanders’ socialism, and the working class, who embraced Donald Trump’s anti-elitist populism. Each was sending the message no more Clintonism, Obamaism, Bushism, elitism, insiderism and favoritism. Yet, on Nov. 8, all of those “isms” will triumph.)

HUFFINGTON POST
—  Illinois Opportunity Project Denies Sitting On People’s Ballot Applications  But state Democrats suspect a voter suppression effort. – Arthur Delaney
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/illinois-ballot-applications_us_581a1a26e4b08f9841aca2d3
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Pat Hughes, the co-founder of the Illinois Opportunity Project, the conservative group that distributed the applications, said the criticism is bogus because the applications have, in fact, been submitted to the clerk. “It’s a red herring,” Hughes said. “It’s a pretext for harassment.” The Illinois attorney general’s office last week warned voters that if they filled out vote-by-mail ballot applications, they should “stay alert and monitor whether they then receive a ballot in the mail.” The office, which is headed by Lisa Madigan, a Democrat, sent several letters last month to the Illinois Opportunity Project demanding information about its vote-by-mail efforts in Rock Island and six other Illinois counties. Maura Possley, a spokeswoman for the attorney general’s office, said people were confused because the group’s vote-by-mail solicitation didn’t say who it was coming from. “Because the Illinois Opportunity Project’s mailings do not identify that organization and, instead, are sent from ‘[Name of County] County Vote By Mail Center’, they have led to voter confusion regarding whether they are official documents from the counties,” Possley said in an email. The Illinois Opportunity Project has ties to Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner, a Republican. One of the group’s co-founders, the conservative radio host Dan Proft, also heads up a big-spending political action committee that is funded partly by Rauner. The governor is looking to chip away at Democrats’ supermajority in the state legislature. Madigan’s father, state Rep. Michael Madigan (D), has been speaker of the Illinois House for decades. The Illinois kerfuffle is one of several voting controversies, some more serious than others, unfolding in various states as Election Day nears.)

— Pay Gap Little Changed at 34 Percent  (DIERSEN: Are you non-veteran, White, male, and/or older?  Are/were you accused of being overpaid? My critics/opponents have always accused me of being overpaid. In my defense, I earned a) a job-related bachelor’s degree when I was 21 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) a job-related professional license when I was 33.)
http://www.fedweek.com/fedweek/pay-gap-little-changed-34-percent/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The federal-private sector pay gap remains essentially unchanged from a year ago at 34.07 percent, the Federal Salary Council has reported. While that represents the official word, based on BLS data, it likely will have little to no impact on the prospects for the January 2017 federal employee raise, which will be 1.6 percent unless political leaders take up the raise issue. They have shown no sign of interest in doing so this year, similar to the pattern of the prior three years when the council also reported a pay gap in the 34-35 percent range but raises only in the 1-2 percent range were paid—also in each case by default when no figure was enacted. The 1.6 percent raise is to be paid as 1 percentage point across the board and the 0.6 percent divided as locality pay. The largest gaps, and thus the largest locality pay portions to be paid, were found to be in the San Francisco, Washington-Baltimore, New York, Los Angeles and Sacramento areas. However, even in those areas, the raise likely will be only in about the 1.8 percent range. The lowest-paid locality, meanwhile, is the catchall rest of U.S., which covers areas in the contiguous states outside one of the 44 city areas (Alaska and Hawaii are separate localities in their entirety) as well as U.S. territories and possessions. The raise in those areas likely will be around 1.4 percent; exact figures are to be set by a late-year executive order formalizing the raise. Locality rates are paid according to where employees work, not where they live, and reflect comparisons of labor market conditions, not cost of living.)

http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/women-accuse-chicago-fire-department-of-discrimination-again/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Three years ago, Chicago spent nearly $2 million — and $1.7 million more in legal fees — to compensate dozens of women denied firefighter jobs because of a discriminatory test of upper body strength that City Hall has now scrapped. Now, a dozen women who wanted desperately to become paramedics are accusing the Chicago Fire Department of devising two new physical agility tests that are equally biased against women. One test requires candidates to go up six flights of stairs with a 250-pound dummy within eight minutes. The other requires candidates to step onto and off of an 18-inch-high box to the beat of a metronome for two minutes without missing a beat while holding 25-pound weights in each hand. The lawsuit filed Friday in federal court alleges that the two tests were “invented to eliminate women” in a Chicago Fire Department where “discrimination against women is stubborn and purposeful.” The women are seeking back pay and other measures to compensate for the discrimination they have suffered. Shannon Markey said no amount of compensation could make her whole for the dream shattered by the city’s decision to fire her on the day before she was scheduled to graduate from the fire academy.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Kane County Board District 8 residents will have a new representative Nov. 9 no matter who wins. Republican Linda Pasetti-Olson of Montgomery or Democrat Barbara Hernandez will fill a spot occupied by Maria Vazquez, who did not seek re-election. She served the remaining term of her late husband, Jesse. Neither candidate has held elected political office, other than precinct committeeman. Pasetti-Olson, 69, has made “life experience” a campaign issue. Hernandez, of Aurora, is 24. “I have the life experience to make the best decisions about how your tax dollars are being spent. This position will be my focus, and it won’t be competing with a social life, or a different career,” Pasetti-Olson wrote in a letter she posted on her campaign’s Facebook page. When she tells voters Hernandez’s age, they say, “She is way too young to be doing a job like this,” Pasetti-Olson said in an interview. Hernandez embraces her relative youth. “To my advantage would be that I am young,” she said, and that she has “fresh ideas” and the time and energy to interact with constituents. Hernandez cited the number of organizations and community events with which she has been involved. “What was she doing when she was 23?” Buying a house, paying taxes, raising children and working, Pasetti-Olson replied. Hernandez said she lives with her parents and does not pay rent but contributes money to household expenses. She works for state Rep. Linda Chapa La Via, and for the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. She cited several reasons, including paying college loans and not being ready to purchase property, for her decision. “I honestly think it is a cultural thing as well,” Hernandez said. “As Latinos, we tend to stay with family.” “I don’t feel like I’m too old” to serve effectively on the board, Pasetti-Olson said. She said she has been walking door-to-door to meet voters. Pasetti-Olson supports county board Chairman Chris Lauzen, including his effort to keep the county’s property tax levy frozen. Hernandez thinks the county should increase the levy, at least enough to account for growth due to new properties. Hernandez said she would support requests from the sheriff’s and state’s attorney’s office for more staffing and other resources. But where would money come from? She said the county should pursue getting more money from the state and federal government. “I feel like several state representatives have been able to bring back (money) for their regular (legislative) district, but they haven’t (specifically) looked into Kane County,” Hernandez said. She said she has developed connections in state and local government, working on constituent services for Chapa La Via, that would be useful. Pasetti-Olson does not support increasing staffing and said Kane County should study neighboring DuPage County for ways to reduce it. Pasetti-Olson cited traffic congestion in the district as one issue she is concerned about, specifically the intersection of Orchard Road and Route 30, and along Montgomery Road. She knows Aurora, the Illinois Department of Transportation and Kane County have long-term solutions in mind, but she wants quicker short-term fixes, such as installing more signals on Montgomery.)

— Are we afraid to put up election signs? – Karen Schlabach, Glen Ellyn  (DIERSEN: If you do not display a Clinton/Kaine sign in your front yard, does that mean that you have already voted for Trump/Pence or that will vote for Trump/Pence?)
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20161029/discuss/161028739/
(FROM THE LETTER: Here it is, less than 30 days until the most contentious presidential campaign that I can remember, yet driving through the Glen Ellyn and Wheaton areas I have seen just one election sign and that was for Hillary Clinton/Tim Kaine. I personally think this election is so negative that no one wants to have a sign in their yard declaring which candidate they choose. I believe they are afraid of a brick or worse, being thrown through their window. Good thing the election booths are private.)
— Trump is our last line of defense – Nancy J. Thorner, Lake Bluff
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20161028/discuss/161028771/
(FROM THE LETTER: The shameless “Borking” of Trump has become nonstop since he became the Republican presidential nominee, fostered by print media and TV networks which have unabashedly joined forces with the Democratic Party. Trump, not of the establishment, would shake up the status quo and the power and money that flows to those who support the globalist agenda of the rich and powerful working behind the scenes to control this nation’s destiny. How will Hillary’s call for (1) open borders as a portal through which flow murderers, drugs, drug lords, cartels, and hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants and (2) extending a welcome mat to thousands of un-vetted Syrians for whom we could query our database until the cows come home and yet find nothing if no records exist?  Keep Americans safe? Hillary can’t even define who the enemy is, and she supports the Iran Nuclear deal travesty. Spineless establishment Republicans created the Trump movement, giving Obama the upper hand to leave this nation with a $20 trillion-plus unsustainable debt and a dismal economy. Obama is on track to be the only U.S. president in history who fails to deliver a single year of GDP 3 percent-plus economic growth, his, a dismal overall 1.55 percent rate. Hillary’s announcement to raise taxes on the rich will cripple business expansion, a job creator, and stifle GDP growth. Trump is the last line of defense against a continuation of Obama’s failed policies through a Hillary administration. Hillary’s Supreme Court appointees would render the Second Amendment (gun rights) meaningless and imperil religious liberty. Trump desires to help this country and is committed to secure our freedom and restore our nation’s greatness, militarily and economically.)

JOURNAL STANDARD
— Election campaign tame compared to the debacle of 1968 – Chuck Sweeny  (DIERSEN: What were you doing in November of 1968?  I was a full-time UIC student and a part-time Park Forest Post Office employee.  I lived with my parents and brother in Crete and I drove a 1968 Oldsmobile 442.)
http://www.journalstandard.com/news/20161029/chuck-sweeny-election-campaign-tame-compared-to-debacle-of-1968
(FROM THE ARTICLE: So, as crazy as this year’s campaign seems, I’m not afraid the country will crack up. In 1968, as a student about to enter the University of Illinois Chicago, I really did fear for what would happen to the U.S.A. Both the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Democratic presidential candidate Robert Kennedy had been assassinated that spring; there were riots in many cities; 500,000 U.S. troops were in Vietnam; college campuses were in turmoil and people like me wondered, “Can anybody here operate this place?” Chicago’s reputation as a political convention location was ruined. Between 1860 and 1968, Chicago hosted 14 Republican and 10 Democratic presidential nominating conventions. Since 1968, the Republicans have not been back. Democrats did come back finally, but not until 1996. I covered that and let me tell you, Mayor Richard M. Daley, son of Richard J. Daley, must have sent all his cops to charm school. They were the friendliest folks in uniform since Captain Kangaroo.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Shugart has made Welter’s youth an issue in the campaign. At 49, she is nearly double his age. She contends life experience makes for better lawmakers. “Surviving through adversity builds character, knowledge and the ability to understand people,” she said. Welter countered his age was no problem, especially given his experience in government. He said Shugart’s criticism was “discouraging” for young people. “It doesn’t matter how old you are. When I came prepared, people started listening to me. You don’t get to be Grundy County chairman, the youngest in the state at the time, without building coalitions. I had Democrats and Republicans support me.”)

FOX ILLINOIS
— Auditor Dispute In Champaign County – HUNTER MCKEE  (DIERSEN: I passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979 and I became a licensed CPA in 1981.  My license (#065012844) has been inactive since 2000.  Since 2000, I have focused on Illinois Republican politics.)
http://foxillinois.com/news/local/auditor-dispute-in-champaign-county
(FROM THE ARTICLE: George Danos, who is running for Champaign County Auditor, had some comments to say about his opponent and current auditor, John Farney. He suggests that Farney violated an Illinois Public Act by falsely stating his chief deputy auditor was a certified accountant. He said that this violates the Illinois law by not having an active license with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Farney called these allegations false and said his chief deputy auditor is highly qualified. “I really find it disappointing and disturbing that my opponent is dragging her good name through the mud,” said Farney. “I find it appalling that he would expose one of his employees to professional risk, she is under the discipline of the profession we share, he’s not an accountant and shows no such risk,” explains Danos. But Danos also included that Farney does have a comprehensive financial report where he incorrectly puts the designation CPA.)

NAPERVILLE COMMUNITY TELEVISION
— SUCCESS in Naperville  (DIERSEN: Are you successful?  Of course, obviously, needless-to-say, and without question, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always shouted that I have never been successful. They stress that I was a federal employee for almost 30 years, and that for a non-veteran White male federal employee like me to be successful, you must make GS-13 (currently $92,632) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $109,463) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $128,759) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $160,300) by age 40.  They shout that because federal employees are stupid and lazy, my not making GS-13 until I was 38 and my being forced to retire when I was 49 proves that I am extremely stupid and lazy.)
http://www.nctv17.com/success-in-naperville/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A group of six African-American professionals in fields ranging from government to medicine to entertainment spoke to a group of Jefferson Junior High students as part of their first SUCCESS Career Day. Assistant Principal Jeremy Christian praised the event. “It helped to really give them a visual of what it’s like to be successful,” he said. “A lot of times African-American students, especially in Naperville, they don’t have something that’s positive to look to because they don’t see anyone that looks like them, so our goal today was to offer them alternatives, giving them some tangible people or tangible things to look at, processes and systems where they can kind of mimic their pathway to their future.” SUCCESS, which stands for “School Using Coordinated Community Efforts to Strengthen Students,” focuses on empowering black and other minority students to achieve greatness. This was the first SUCCESS event at Jefferson, which has around 70 black students out of their nearly 900 total, a sense of minority that panelists addressed.)

http://fortune.com/2016/10/29/trump-supporter-voter-fraud/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Police in Des Moines, Iowa, arrested a woman on suspicion of voting twice in the general election. Terri Lynn Rote, a registered Republican, is accused of submitting ballot at two different early voting stations, the Des Moines Register reports. Rote told Iowa Public Radio that she was afraid her first ballot for Donald Trump would be changed to a vote for Hillary Clinton. “I wasn’t planning on doing it twice, it was spur of the moment,” she said. “The polls are rigged.” Polls being “rigged” has become a common refrain in Trump’s campaign, as the Republican nominee has repeatedly insisted that voter fraud is common. “Of course there is large scale voter fraud happening on and before election day,” Trump tweeted on Oct. 17. “Why do Republican leaders deny what is going on? So naive!” Rote was arrested Thursday on a first-degree election misconduct charge, which is a Class D felony. She was released Friday on a $5,000 bond.)

WHEATON RECORD
— Wheaton College’s history of political involvement – Kelsey Plankeel
http://www.wheatonrecord.com/news/wheatons-history-political-involvement/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Despite not hosting a presidential candidate since 1992, Wheaton College has a rich history of hosting, producing and gaining support from prominent political leaders since its foundation by Jonathan Blanchard — who once ran for president himself — in 1860. Of all of Wheaton’s renowned visitors, perhaps the most impressive are the nine presidential candidates who visited Wheaton’s campus between 1960 and 1992. The first was Richard M. Nixon, the Vice President and 1960 Republican presidential candidate at the time. Nixon appeared at a rally on McCully field and, according to the Wheaton College Archives, encouraged the crowd to “strengthen the faith of America” and “see that young people grow up with faith in God.” Nixon later won the presidency. President Jimmy Carter was the last president to visit Wheaton. He delivered the February 1992 LeRoy H. Pfund Lecture. Other visitors with presidential aspirations included Margaret Chase Smith, the first woman to serve in both houses of Congress, 1964 Republican candidate Barry Goldwater, 1972 Democratic candidate George McGovern, President Ronald Reagan, President George H.W. Bush and the Reverend Jesse Jackson. Secretary of State William Jennings Bryan, a populist Democrat who ran for president in 1896, 1900 and 1908, was also a guest of Wheaton. Most recently, 2012 Republican Vice Presidential and current Speaker of the House Paul Ryan gave a speech at a Wheaton breakfast in spring of 2015. Many alumni have also gone on to become recognized public figures. Disgraced ex-Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert was a 1964 graduate. At one point, Hastert served in Congress alongside three other Wheaton graduates: Republican Indiana Senator Dan Coats ’65, Republican Michigan Representative Paul B. Henry ’63 and Democratic Washington Representative Jim McDermott ’58. Other alumni in politics include Michael Gerson ’86, chief speechwriter for President George W. Bush who helped write Bush’s memorable post-9/11 speeches. More infamously, David R. Young Jr. ’59 was a special assistant at the National Security Council in the Nixon Administration. Young co-founded the White House Special Investigations Unit — known as “The Plumbers” — known for breaking into a psychiatry office and later attempting to break into the Democratic National Committee offices at the Watergate complex, instigating the Watergate scandal. Additionally, several public figures have supported Wheaton financially in the past as Trustees. Owen Lovejoy was a founding Trustee of Wheaton College, U.S. Congressman and friend of Abraham Lincoln. A scholarship was later presented in his name. Another trustee, Salmon P. Chase, was a Senator, governor of Ohio, Secretary of the Treasury and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Chase was the great-great uncle of Wheaton’s sixth president and the great-great-great uncle of Ken Chase, current chair of the Communication department at Wheaton. He is also the face of the $10,000 bill. David Iglesias, current director of the Wheaton Center for Faith, Politics and Economics and professor of politics and law, graduated from Wheaton in 1980. In 2001, Iglesias was appointed the U.S. State Attorney for the District of New Mexico under the Bush administration. He also served in the U.S. Navy in 2008 as part of Operation Enduring Freedom as a terrorism and war crimes prosecutor and has held various other national and state positions. Iglesias said Wheaton helped prepare him for public service in three ways: “It gave me the confidence to speak in public; it gave me the Biblical basis for getting involved in the political process; it helped me organize my thoughts and ensure I was focusing on facts, not arguments.” Politics and international relations department chair and associate professor of politics Bryan McGraw said Wheaton tries to “prepare all of our students to exercise leadership in whatever field they choose to go into.” Specifically, Wheaton equips aspiring political leaders to use the gifts given to them to effect justice worldwide, according to McGraw. “We would hope that Wheaton graduates — and Christians more broadly — would be more likely to grasp that call clearly and have the freedom and courage to put it into effect.”)

— To grow size of Police Department, Chicago will need twice what is planned – Cecilia Reyes
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/data/ct-police-retirement-mayors-plan-20161002-htmlstory.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A Tribune analysis of police pension fund data shows a large number of officers eligible for sweetened retirement benefits, an incentive known as “55 and out,” as part of their contract, which expires in June 30, 2017. There are 569 officers who have served for at least 26 years, the average time for retirees between 2011 and 2015, and are at least 55 years old. Officers 55 or older qualify for extended health care benefits, extending coverage, paid for by the department, until an officer is eligible for Medicare. There are 3,840 officers who have served for at least 20 years, at which point, pension benefits grow by about $2,000 each month, the pension fund estimates. Of eligible officers, 2,592 officers are older than 50, when their pensions start to be paid.)
— Presidential race drives auto industry issues home – Fred Meier
http://www.chicagotribune.com/classified/automotive/sc-clinton-trump-auto-industry-issues-autocover-1020-20161018-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The U.S. auto industry has been in the spotlight during the 2016 presidential campaigns, starting with the primaries. The hottest issue has not been about what automakers produce but where, thanks to the debate over free-trade deals including the North American Free Trade Agreement and the pending Trans-Pacific Partnership. History shows that the winner could end up having a big impact on what and how we drive. Past presidential milestones include interstate highways (Dwight Eisenhower), the first safety regulations and the 25 percent tariff on trucks (Lyndon B. Johnson), federal emissions rules and the 55-mph speed limit (Richard Nixon), fuel economy rules (Gerald Ford), the first Chrysler bailout (Jimmy Carter), the most recent industry bailout (George W. Bush and Barack Obama), and ramped-up emissions and fuel economy rules (Obama).)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: 2. Develop a more detailed strategy as your exit from the workforce draws nearer. As you get closer to pulling the trigger on retirement, you can step up your planning effort. One critical issue you’ll need to address is whether to postpone taking Social Security benefits to qualify for the up to 8% higher payment you’ll receive for each year you delay. The answer will depend on such factors as how long you expect to live; the rate of return you think you can earn on your retirement investments; and, if you’re married, whether you and your spouse might be able to maximize benefits by coordinating when each of you claims. You can get insights into this decision by going to Financial Engines’ Social Security calculator.)
