DAILY HERALD
— Why video gambling needs more local control – Editorial  (DIERSEN: Gambling is a vice.  Government should not promote vice.  What percent of those who video gamble in Illinois are on welfare or will be on welfare – 98%, 99%, 100%?)
http://www.dailyherald.com/discuss/20170719/editorial-why-video-gambling-needs-more-local-control
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: We’ve never been thrilled about video gambling, and its expansion beyond the initial locales written into the law — bars, restaurants, fraternal organizations, veterans groups and truck stops — troubles us a bit. Putting gambling machines where kids pass them on the way to the breakfast cereal aisle seems like a new frontier. “That’s what they have in Las Vegas,” said longtime gambling opponent Anita Bedell, executive director of the Illinois Church Action on Alcohol & Addiction Problems. We’re not arguing any longer to do away with video gambling, and even if we were, we recognizue the challenge it would be to replace that revenue source. Illinois took in $27.6 million and towns got $5.5 million in May alone. But we can back a change to state law proposed by the Antioch Village Board, where at least one trustee intended for the Piggly Wiggly to get the liquor license but not video gambling. The village board, in a resolution, points out a fault in the gambling licensure process — once local authorities give a license to serve liquor, they have no control over whether that business also gets a gambling license. That’s handled by the Illinois Gaming Board. If towns don’t like it, their only choice is to opt out of video gambling altogether. In issuing the liquor license, “I would have preferred to add a clause that prevented gaming, but … that was not an option,” Antioch Mayor Larry Hanson said of the Piggly Wiggly. situation. Why not make it an option? It’s reasonable to let local authorities set limits within the boundaries of the existing law. Antioch’s example provides a persuasive argument for making the change.)

DAILY WIRE
— INSANITY: Purdue Hands Out ‘Privilege Scorecards’ To Students – SAUL TEETER  (DIERSEN: From what I see, a) you lose privilege points if you are a Trump supporter, Protestant, conservative, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owner, German American, draft avoider (except Bill Clinton), and/or and if your ancestors have been in America for a long time and b) you gain privilege points if you are anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, anti-draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors.)
http://www.dailywire.com/news/18735/insanity-purdue-hands-out-privilege-scorecards-daily-wire
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Did you think Brooklyn’s “Check Your Privilege” cards were amazing? Then you’ll love this: Mike Allison at Turning Point News is reporting that students in a Purdue University class were given “Privilege Scorecards,” which is somehow stupider than it sounds. The questionnaire takes eleven totally arbitrary categories and awards points based on your answers. Because that is how equality works. There is much of the usual nonsense present: White and Asian people earn 25 and 10 points, respectively, while Latino and Black people are deducted points; Women lose 50 points, but gain back 20 points if they are cisgender women. Gay people lose 100 points, which I find deeply insulting as a gay man who would love nothing more than to just be counted the same as everybody else. Not to worry though, since the goal seems to be to get as far in the negatives as possible. A gay, intersex, trans, black, Middle-Eastern, Muslim, homeless, blind, short, ugly scientist who cannot add and is filling the form out on a Friday night would have -2570 points, which is of course a big win for that population. For some reason, Jews (against whom the majority of religiously-motivated hate crimes are committed) are awarded 25 points, while Christians are awarded 5 and Muslims lose 50. Jewish exclusion is not a surprise, since this comes from the same branch of leftism as the Chicago Dyke March (of “Zio” fame). This scorecard is a logical endgame of the emphasis that leftists have been putting on victimhood and the Oppression Olympics, championing those who have perceived disadvantages as inherently more virtuous. The obvious logical flaw here is that separating groups of people by physical characteristics and then assigning them virtue is the dictionary definition of racism. Purdue, by the way, is a publicly-funded university.)

WALL STREET JOURNAL
— The Latest ‘Hate’ Smear Target Is a Civil-Rights Group  The media again parrots the Southern Poverty Law Center’s scurrilous claims. – Edwin Meese III  (DIERSEN: QUESTION: Who calls who a hater? ANSWER: Members of Group A call members of Group B haters.  Members of Group A are anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, anti-draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors and members of Group B are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German Americans, draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.)
https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-latest-hate-smear-target-is-a-civil-rights-group-1500500854
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The headlines were both inflammatory and untrue: “Attorney General Jeff Sessions Criticized for Speaking to ‘Hate Group,’ ” reported NBC. Reports from ABC and other major news outlets used similar language. Readers might be surprised to learn that the group in question is the Alliance Defending Freedom, a respected civil-rights law firm. So where did this scurrilous charge originate? With the Southern Poverty Law Center, which labels the ADF a “hate group.” The designation had nothing to do with the law firm’s policies or behavior. It’s just that the SPLC objects to its traditional views on the Constitution, the First Amendment and the meaning of marriage. No responsible media outlet should parrot the SPLC’s hate list without seeking to understand not only its motives but also the consequences of spreading false charges. I have personally known the ADF’s founder, Alan Sears, and its president, Mike Farris, for decades. Each has committed his life to fighting for justice, the rule of law, and a better future for all Americans. When I was attorney general in the 1980s, Alan worked for the Commission on Pornography, fighting for stronger laws against obscenity while protecting the First Amendment. Mike is a pastor, the founder of Patrick Henry College, and an extraordinary litigator. Together they have led the ADF to numerous victories at the Supreme Court, including this year’s 7-2 win in Trinity Lutheran v. Comer, a landmark case on church-state relations. I also know Mr. Sessions as a colleague and friend. His distinguished service to the nation over three decades, now as part of the Trump administration, has been rewarded with vicious attacks by the media and political opponents.)

https://capitolfax.com/2017/07/19/theyre-back/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The last press release I received from the Illinois Republican Party on state issues was July 7th, the Friday before the Monday Rauner purge began… On Monday, the Chicago Machine tipped its hand on SB1. After months claiming that SB1 was about fixing the school funding formula, Chicago Public Schools started making the unsubstantiated argument that an amendatory veto of the bill to remove the Chicago bailout would change the “fundamental purpose” of the legislation. It’s a clear admission by the Chicago Machine that the “fundamental purpose” of SB1 is a Chicago pension bailout, and not school funding reform. It’s time Madigan Democrats in the General Assembly either send SB1 to Governor Rauner for an amendatory veto to remove the Chicago bailout, or pass true bipartisan school funding reform that excludes a multi-hundred million dollar bailout of Chicago at the expense of schools across the state. Otherwise, this is just another case of Mike Madigan and his machine holding Illinois hostage for his Chicago agenda.)

CAPITOL FAX
—  Haevers leaves – Rodriguez leaves *** Mahoney is latest top Rauner administration official to resign (DIERSEN: In Illinois, in DuPage County, in Milton Township, in Glen Ellyn, and in Wheaton, when there is news of interest to Illinois Republicans, routinely, Democrat plants, Libertarian plants, Green plants, and RINOs first give that news to the Democrat news media, and especially to Rich Miller. Democrat plants, Libertarian plants, Green plants, and RINOs do not want Illinois Republicans to first learn of anything by reading GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails. Further, when there is news of actions taken by the DuPage County Election Commission (DCEC) that might adversely affect elected DuPage County Republican Precinct Committeemen, Democrats and Democrat plants, Libertarians and Libertarian plants, Greens and Green plants, and RINOs certainly do not want me to know about it. They know that if I was given the names and contact information of those elected DuPage County Republican Precinct Committeemen who are affected by DCEC’s proposed precinct line changes, I would immediately notify them.  Just kidding, but not completely, I ask should I consider forming a “DuPage County Elected Republican Precinct Committeeman Association.” What about politicians who want precinct lines to be changed a) to reward those who pander to them and b) punish those who do not pander to them?)
https://capitolfax.com/2017/07/17/mahoney-is-latest-top-rauner-administration-official-to-resign/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Mike Mahoney, the governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Legislative Affairs, resigned this morning. I’m told the parting was amicable Here’s Sneed from last week… “The big question: Will Mike Mahoney, the governor’s policy chief, be told to leave? “Mike was the guy who kept the troops together, but the expectation is that there is a lot more to come in the cleaning house department,” a Rauner source said.” It almost goes without saying that this is yet another big loss for the administration. Mahoney was a key player and both House Republican Leader Jim Durkin and Senate GOP Leader Bill Brady reportedly asked the governor to do what he could to keep Mahoney on the payroll. In the end, however, he really had no choice but to leave. I’m told that more resignations are expected as early as today, so stay tuned.  Sources close to the governor’s office confirm that the governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Public Engagement Phil Rodriguez has also resigned. Rodriguez worked for Comptrollers Topinka and Munger and ran both of their campaigns. He’s moving over to the Tollway.  The governor’s body man, Kyle Haevers, has been told his services were no longer needed and was asked to find an agency to move to. His replacement is Ben Tracy, who has already begun traveling with the governor. Kyle was a loyal Raunerite and has been part of Rauner World since 2014 and helped on the Rep. McAuliffe race last fall.)

WALL STREET JOURNAL
— La Raza Finally Loses ‘the Race’  The leftist Chicano outfit rebrands itself as UnidosUS. – Mike Gonzalez  (DIERSEN: To support La Raza, or now UnidosUS, is to shout that you are anti-Trump, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, anti-German Americans, anti-draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than your ancestors.)
https://www.wsj.com/articles/la-raza-finally-loses-the-race-1500229809
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Since its inception in 1968, made possible in part by a grant from the Ford Foundation, La Raza has been far more dependent on boardrooms and government than grass-roots support. But with government largess drying up, the liberal political-advocacy group may find itself needing greater support from the rank and file. This won’t be easy. The nation’s “Hispanics” are undergoing a radical shift that most politicians are missing: A white majority is likely to persist in America. “Many children growing up today in mixed families are integrating into a still largely white mainstream society,” sociologist Richard Alba noted in American Prospect last year. These children are “likely to think of themselves as part of that mainstream, rather than as minorities excluded from it.” The name La Raza—“the race” in Spanish—flies in the face of this reality. It is off-putting to many “Hispanics,” an artificial Census category comprising many razas. The organization’s CEO, Janet Murguia, admitted as much in a video announcing the name change: “We must make sure that our name and our organization evolves along with and remains relevant to our ever changing Hispanic community.” Appealing to a broader swath of this diverse group is necessary now that the “fat years” under President Obama are gone. The Obama Justice Department made a practice of settling lawsuits against corporate defendants by requiring they make large donations to groups like La Raza. It was, in the words of House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, “a scheme to funnel money to politically favored special interest groups.” In a letter sent to Attorney General Loretta Lynch in the closing days of the Obama administration, Mr. Goodlatte noted that “in just the last two years, DOJ has directed nearly $1 billion to activist groups, entirely outside of Congress’s spending and oversight authority.” Taxpayer money was flowing into La Raza coffers too. When Cecilia Munoz, a top La Raza lobbyist, joined Mr. Obama’s Domestic Policy Council, federal subsidies for La Raza went from $4.1 million to $11 million a year. And La Raza loyally promoted Mr. Obama’s policies as pro-Latino. You can expect the group to continue agitating on behalf of the Democratic Party. Whether UnidosUS becomes more grass-roots-driven than La Raza remains to be seen. The group’s corporate board of advisers still includes Comcast , AT&T , Bank of America , Chevron , Coca-Cola , Ford, Con-Agra Foods and other Fortune 500 firms. Its more than 260 local affiliates train and mobilize an activist core of community organizers but have only a third of the vote on the board. This week’s name change may be a recognition of an imperfect model. Or it may be nothing more than a marketing ploy. The latter is more likely.)

July 15 Morning Edition

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Are you an elected official?  What is your position on redistricting, that is, what is your position on changes being made to the borders of the political jurisdiction in which you were elected?  Do you want to be notified in a timely manner of any proposed changes to those borders? To you want the opportunity to be able to object to proposed changes in a timely manner?

In DuPage County, elected Precinct Committeemen do not have that opportunity. The DuPage County Election Commission (DCEC) did not post maps of its many proposed changes to many precincts until July 12, 2017 and it will vote on accepting those proposed changes at its July 26, 2017 meeting.  My understanding is that the proposed changes affect about 100,000 voters, an unknown number of polling places, 276 precincts including 101 in Downers Grove Township and 27 in Milton Township, and 60 new precincts would be created including 12 in Downer Grove Township and 6 in Milton Township.

I have asked the DCEC for, but I have not been provided with a) a list of the 276 affected precincts broken out by the 9 townships, b) indication of which of those 276 precincts have elected Precinct Committeemen, and c) their contact information. Each of the elected Precinct Committeemen in those 276 affected precincts should have long since have been provided with a detailed map that precisely shows proposed changes to their precinct down to individual addresses.

Outrageously, most, if not virtually all of the elected Precinct Committeemen affected by the proposed changes have not been individually notified that DCEC has proposed changes to their precinct borders.

I have asked the DCEC to immediately and individually notify by regular mail and by email each and every elected Precinct Committeeman in precincts affected by DCEC’s proposed changes.  Please join me in this request by emailing and/or by phoning the following: Cathy Terrill – Chairperson at cterrill@dupageco.org and 630-407-5697; James S. Lowe – Vice Chair at jlowe@dupageco.org and 630-407-5699; John J. Boske – Secretary at john.boske@dupageco.org and 630-407-5698; and Joseph H. Sobecki – Executive Director at joseph.sobecki@dupageco.org and 630-407-5614. Sadly, there is no indication that what I have asked for will be done.

To get a rough indication of DCEC’s numerous proposed changes, visit: http://www.dupageco.org/Election/Election_Commission_News/2017/55317/.

I found DCEC’s 2015 “Policy for Precinct Modifications” on DCEC’s website , but I have not yet found DCEC’s 2017 “Policy for Precinct Modifications” on DCEC’s website.

According to several Republican DuPage County Township Party Chairman, the DCEC does not want to deal with individual elected Precinct Committeemen, and therefore, it will only deal with county party chairmen and with township party chairmen concerning proposed changes. Needless-to-say, that is outrageous.  Two years ago, I was not notified in a timely manner of dramatic changes to my Milton Township Precinct 9. Further, it appears that as Democrats flood DuPage County, many changes to many precincts will have to be made every 2 years from now on.

While I worked for the federal government for almost 30 years, my Democrat superiors did everything that they could to delay if not to stop me from getting information that I could have used to avoid the adverse employment actions that they took against me.

In my roles as a Republican Precinct Committeeman since 1999 and as your GOPUSA Illinois Editor since 2000, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have done everything that they can to delay if not to stop me from getting information that I could use to avoid adverse actions against me.

In my roles as a TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairman 2005-2012, as a Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee member 2003-2011, as a Milton Township Republican Central Committee webmaster 2000-2004, as an Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee member 2003-2007, and as an American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board member 2001-2004, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes did everything that they could to delay if not to stop me from getting information that I could have used to avoid adverse actions against me.

If you are an elected Precinct Committeeman like I have been since 2000, you understand my concerns about this. Again, please join me in asking the DCEC to immediately and individually notify by regular mail and by email each and every elected Precinct Committeeman in precincts affected by DCEC’s proposed changes.  Thanks. – Dave Diersen

http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20170705/BLOGS02/170709989/illinois-balks-at-vote-fraud-panels-data-request
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Add Illinois to the list of states that are balking at turning over massive amounts of voter data that is normally kept private to a commission chaired by Vice President Mike Pence. In an interview, Ken Menzel, general counsel to the Illinois State Board of Elections, said the board this morning finally received a written request from the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity. The commission says it’s trying to prevent voter fraud; Democrats say it is attempting to drive down voter turnout among progressive voters. The request was mistakenly sent to Secretary of State Jesse White, whose office passed it on to the board. Menzel said the matter will be researched and referred to the board for possible action. But the board doesn’t meet until Aug. 22, Menzel added, so nothing is going to be happening soon. And it’s clear that at least some requested data will not be going to the feds. “They’re certainly not going to get the last four numbers of (each registrant’s) Social Security number,” he said. “We don’t give that out to anybody.” Some other information—the commission asked for past military records, felony convictions and other data—may be possible, Menzel indicated. But even that’s not sure. “This (request) doesn’t fit neatly into what our laws provide.” I’d look for Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan to jump into this fray.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: What motivates you? We know that your work to get paid and meet your needs, but what makes you take extra time and effort to do a job well? Why do people work for the government and why do some contribute so much more than others? As a former HR specialist these are questions that I am motivated to examine. Clearly, there are carrots and sticks to consider when looking at what makes Feds go. This article focuses on the most commonly considered carrot – money. Memories and motivation  There is ample reason to believe that the General Schedule will be abolished over the next few years and replaced by a pay-for-performance (PFP) system. It will likely be shaped by “pay bands” in which new hires are placed when hired. After that, annual salaries will only be increased based on performance reviews.)
