The tribute included flowers, handwritten notes, American flags, and a Bible open in homage. Nearly a hundred came together at the ISU quad flagpole for a prayer service that included Christian worship songs. The Hanover Township Republicans hosted another service, drawing hundreds who lit candles, prayed, and shared memories of Kirk. In Lemont, where Kirk founded Turning Point USA more than a decade ago, several hundred attendees turned out for a candlelight remembrance led in prayer, with participants singing the national anthem and holding handmade signs reading ‘You will be missed’ and ‘Your legacy will live on.’ Mourners also placed flowers, flags, and photos outside the site of his first office in the town. The ceremonies in Illinois follow a series of memorials held nationwide and abroad after Kirk, 31, was assassinated on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University before an audience of about 3,000. Law enforcement arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with the shooting. Communities overseas also honored his life. Hundreds of mourners assembled Friday evening in central London, where Turning Point UK organized a vigil featuring U.S. flags, the Christian hymn Amazing Grace, and candlelight in Parliament Square. Tributes were also reported in Berlin, Madrid, Paris, and Vienna, with Poland’s parliament holding a moment of silence at the request of the Law and Justice party. In the United States, sports teams and institutions held dedications, including moments of silence by the New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, the NFL, and the Kennedy Center. Trump ordered American flags flown at half-staff until Sunday evening and announced that Kirk would be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, September 21, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, which seats more than 63,000. Kirk is survived by his wife, Erika, and their two children.)

Republicans and Democrats are rethinking safety — from campaign events to press conferences. The pivot: Congresswoman Delia Ramirez, a Democrat, moved an outdoor press conference indoors on Thursday out of caution. Some members of the Chicago City Council sent a letter Thursday to Police Superintendent Larry Snelling and Chicago Corporation Counsel Mary Richardson-Lowry urging a review of safety protocols. “Over the last eighteen months, the Council Chamber has seen many rancorous meetings, City Council members needing escorts out of the building and protective services because of the subjects discussed and votes taken. (FROM THE ARTICLE: George Floyd was a criminal and a sometime thug. By the time he died of a drug overdose in 2020, he had spent at least the last 23 years committing crimes. Over that 23-year period, he was arrested at least nine times for everything from drug possession and distribution to theft to aggravated assault. He was stopped for a wide variety of other activities that required him to do community service or did not result in an arrest. Nine arrests over 23 years might not sound like a lot, but for more than eight of those years, he was in prison and not able to prey on people. Although arrested and jailed for aggravated assault, the crime that was the catalyst for his death was his decision to pass a counterfeit $20 bill. When the police arrived, he refused to comply, fought the police, and then died from natural causes when he was pinned down to the ground, as the police were surrounded by an angry mob that made it impossible for them even to try to address Floyd’s health. Then suddenly, George Floyd became a saint. Across the country and around the world, there was gnashing of teeth, protests, and riots about his death. The Black Lives Matter grifters monetized it, politicians made speeches using it to demonize police and America, and the draconian regulations meant to protect us from a supposedly extinction-level virus were conveniently suspended so long as people were busy protesting and burning down cities. However, only with a fuller understanding of the circumstances leading up to the events captured on video does one understand that Floyd’s death was not murder or even police brutality, but rather a very unfortunate circumstance brought about by Floyd himself. But then it wasn’t George Floyd’s death itself that caused half the country to rally around the fiction of police brutality and systemic racism; it was the videos. While the videos are indeed difficult to watch, they don’t change the fact that it was Floyd’s choices that were responsible.)

The Illinois Freedom Caucus held a safety press conference this morning to express their support for President Trump’s efforts.
