— Rich people prefer iPhones, white people own pets: the data behind the cultural divide – Andrew Van Dam (DIERSEN: Are/were you rich? To demonize me, to denigrate me, and to condemn me as being overpaid and undeservedly filthy rich, my Democrat superiors in the federal government and Money Magazine stressed the money that I spent on new cars, real estate, tuition, collector cars, etc. They stressed that I avoided the draft and that my wife and I gave up trying to have children, we did not adopt, and we did not become foster parents. They would not have done that if I had been a Democrat, a minority, a female, or a veteran.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/lifestyles/ct-rich-people-prefer-grey-poupon-white-people-own-pets-cultural-divide-20180724-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The cultural divide is real, and it’s huge. Americans live such different lives that what we buy, do or watch can be used to predict our politics, race, income, education and gender – sometimes with more than 90 percent accuracy. It turns out that people are separated not just by gun ownership, religion and their beliefs on affirmative action – but also by English muffins, flashlights and mustard. To prove it, University of Chicago economists Marianne Bertrand and Emir Kamenica taught machines to guess a person’s income, political ideology, race, education and gender based on either their media habits, their consumer behavior, their social and political beliefs, and even how they spent their time. Their results were released in a new working paper from the National Bureau of Economic Research. The duo trained their algorithms to detect patterns in decades of responses to three long-running surveys, each with between 669 and 22,093 responses per year. The surveys were tuned and filtered to be consistent over time, which allowed Bertrand and Kamenica to measure how America’s cultural divides have evolved. . .But others are revelatory: White people and black people are almost as different in their spending habits as rich people and poor people are, for example. Differences in social attitudes between liberals and conservatives have been widened over time, Bertrand and Kamenica found. The gap in social attitudes between whites and nonwhites has fallen slightly, but the difference in consumer behavior between races has grown.)
— The White House’s slippery slope on purging its critics’ security clearances – Aaron Blake (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes stress my Illinois Republican U.S. Representatives and my Illinois Republican U.S. Senators a) who did not come to my defense when my Democrat superiors in the federal government took adverse actions against me and/or b) who have made it clear that they side with my Democrat superiors in the federal government against me.)

Anti-Trumps use immigrants, refugees, and their supporters to demonize, to denigrate, and to condemn those who are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, draft avoiders, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time AS BEING WHITE SUPREMACISTS, NAZIS, KKK MEMBERS, HATERS, RACISTS, HATERS, SEXISTS, BIGOTS, AND EVEN WORSE THINGS.)

My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes paint themselves as being champions of minorities, females, young people, veterans, disabled people, poor people, etc. My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes in the Milton Township Republican Central Committee, DuPage County Republican Central Committee, Illinois Republican Party, TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce, Illinois Center Right Coalition, American Association of Political Consultants, my precinct, Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Milton Township, DuPage County, and Illinois side with my Democrat superiors in the federal government.)

CHICAGO GOP
— Cook County Republican Party to vote to admit Democrats into leadership – Chris Cleveland (DIERSEN: I should write a book about leaders of Republican organizations in Illinois who since 2000 not only reject many planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform (most commonly the traditional family, right to life, and immigration planks), but who focus on destroying Republican Precinct Committeemen like me who support those planks.)
http://www.chicagogop.com/
(FROM THE MEDIA ADVISORY: On Wednesday evening, the Cook County Republican Central Committee is scheduled to vote on a proposal by Chairman Sean Morrison to admit Democrats into leadership positions in several Republican ward organizations. The proposal would eliminate the provision in the bylaws that say that individuals may not have voted Democrat in the last three cycles to hold the office of Republican ward committeeman. In 2016, several life-long Democrats, some affiliated with the local Alderman, ran for office as Republican ward committeemen and were disqualified by the bylaws. Chairman Morrison has stated that he intends to seat them anyway. The controversial proposal is strongly opposed by a large number of Chicago Republican committeemen who have said they intend to boycott the meeting. The proposal has also drawn strong opposition from the chairman of the Chicago GOP, Chris Cleveland. Cleveland’s statement on the matter is below. The meeting will be held at: Gene & Georgetti’s Restaurant in Rosemont Wednesday, July 25 7:30 pm The meeting is open to the public.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Lawmakers are demanding the first study in nearly a decade on pay for congressional staffers amid growing concerns about whether those workers, in particular women and racial minorities, are being underpaid. “Addressing pay inequality, both on sex and race, is a top priority,” said Rep. Meanwhile, one in five millennials who are planning to buy a home expect to do the same. It’s an “alarming” trend, according to Ryan Bailey, head of Bank of the West’s retail banking group. “Millennials are so eager to become homeowners that some may be inadvertently cutting off their nose to spite their face.” He recommends relying on savings rather than dipping into your retirement funds. “Borrowing from your retirement may make sense in special circumstances, but it’s definitely not a recommendation we tell people to do,” Bailey tells CNBC.)

In 1993, when I was 45 years old, GAO offered all its employees who had 25 or more years of federal service, including me, a $25,000 buyout. https://www.guns.com/2018/07/24/historic-gun-show-homeless-after-new-firearm-policy-at-fairgrounds/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: An Illinois gun group said they have been forced out of their home of over 50 years due to limits placed on their regular shows by the local fair board. The Pioneer Valley Sportsman’s Association announced this week that restrictions on new shows demanded by the DuPage County Fair Association Board have brought about the demise of their long-held gun show at the public venue. The group said they have held a monthly event at the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton each October through April for a half-century but the new policy advocated by the board has gone too far and the officials refused to negotiate a compromise.)

What’s more, negative views of the bureau have doubled within the party during the same period of time. Just 49 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents now say they have a positive opinion of the bureau, while 44 percent give it negative marks. That’s compared with 65 percent of Republicans who gave the FBI a thumbs up just 18 months ago (and 21 percent who disagreed) — about a three-to-one margin.)

Some Republicans and their allies had been questioning Rauner’s intention to fund campaign operations for the fall while he focuses on his own re-election bid. Republicans have come to count on cash from the wealthy governor, an equity investor, and he has largely subsidized the state GOP. https://www.oneillinois.com/stories/2018/7/23/the-new-gilded-age
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois was one of eight states to top that disparity, but it was closest to the national average. In Illinois, the average income for the top 1 percent was $1.4 million, 27 times greater than the average salary for the other 99 percent: $52,000. It took income of $421,000 to make the top 1 percent nationally, $456,000 in Illinois. Lake County was among the top counties in the nation for what it takes to make the top 1 percent of residents, with a threshold of $994,000, 18th in the United States. The average income for the top 1 percent there was $3.1 million, 37.4 times greater than the average salary for the other 99 percent of $83,000. Even among the very rich, Illinois held its own. The study found that, of all income going to the top 1 percent nationally, half that figure was accrued by families in five states: California, New York, Texas, Florida, and Illinois. Frank Manzo IV, of the Illinois Economic Policy Institute, which is not affiliated with the national organization, said the data match his for Illinois. According to Manzo, 57,421 Illinois tax filers topped $500,000 in income in 2015, slightly more than 1 percent of the 5,667,344 total. With an average income of $1.56 million, they claimed 21.7 percent of all adjusted gross income statewide.)

CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
— Why we published an all-woman Tech 50 list – Editorial (DIERSEN: When will Crain’s publish all-woman and all-minority federal government 50 lists? Since the 1960s, the federal government’s top priority has been a) to hire, retain, and promote young Democrat women and young Democrat minorities and b) to make way for them by wasting the careers of and by getting rid of its employees who are Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran who did not make GS-13 (currently $96,403) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $113,920) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $134,000) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $164,200) by age 40.)
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20180720/ISSUE07/180719833
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: Our 2011 Small Business Week coverage featured the Tech 25, a list of the people propelling the growth of technology entrepreneurship in Chicago. Howard Tullman was there, as CEO of his Flashpoint Media Arts Academy, since this was before he would go on to help create the 1871 Chicago startup hub. So were Sam Yagan, then co-founder of OKCupid, as well as Obama for America veteran Harper Reed and Lightbank partner Paul Lee, to name a few. We’ve since expanded the feature to an annual list of the 50 tech people you need to know now, and we’ve embraced founders of large companies as well as small ones while sprinkling in more financiers, heavyweights, connectors, dreamers, gurus and coders. Over the years, Crain’s technology reporter John Pletz, thanks to his deep and wide knowledge of the sector, has done an incredible job of producing each year’s list, keeping it fresh with new, diverse names while burnishing readers’ understanding of the perennial power players who have remained relevant year in, year out. This year, however, the editors threw John a curveball. With our ongoing Woman Up Project in mind, we asked him to create an all-female Tech 50 for 2018.)

— This one is a doozy, even by Chicago standards: Millionaire Chicago mayoral candidate Willie Wilson handed out $300,000 in cash to attendees at a South Side church Sunday. And it gets better: According to Wilson, $100,000 of it came from Gov. Bruce Rauner. – Shia Kapos

(FROM THE ARTICLE: “Check this out if you wonder why Illinois politicians are often a national joke. How can Willie Wilson, a candidate for Mayor of Chicago, literally hand out CASH at a public event? This is so wrong!” tweeted, Republican state Rep. David McSweeney.)
— Seating squabble: Thursday’s Lincoln Forum debate between Republican Rep. Peter Roskam and Democratic challenger Sean Casten is sold out. The event was only supposed to have 100 audience guests, ideally supporters evenly split between the two candidates. But when tickets went on sale, Casten’s supporters gobbled them up. Lincoln Forum co-founders Pat Brady, the former state GOP chairman, and Eric Adelstein, a Dem strategist, decided out of fairness to sell an additional 70 tickets to Roskam supporters. “The Lincoln Forum is nonpartisan and we have a duty to have a balanced room,” Brady said. – Shia Kapos (DIERSEN: I should write a book about the two times that Pat Brady spoke at TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois meetings.)

UNION LEADER
— Unions support workers – RICHARD BACKUS, New Boston (DIERSEN: IRS’s and GAO’s 40-hour work week and annual leave policies helped me to a) earn an MBA from Loyola in 1976, b) pass the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979, c) earn a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980, d) pass the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt in 1981, and e) earn a master’s degree in financial markets and trading in 1997.)
http://www.unionleader.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20180718/OPINION04/180719439
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Right-to-work is not what it seems. Before labor unions, factory workers toiled six days a week, 12 hours a day. They often worked alongside children as young as 5 years old. Pay was terrible; there were no health benefits or pensions. It was the unions that gave us the 5-day, 40-hour work week, pensions, and other benefits. It was the unions that gave us the shared prosperity of the 1940s and ‘50s. Since then the unions have been under attack, to the point where we have the unconscionable situation of full-time workers at Walmart needing to go on welfare. Gov. Chris Sununu is a champion of “right-to-work” legislation. And now, in Janus vs. AFCSME, the Supreme Court (with Neil Gorsuch on the bench) has said it’s okay for employees not to contribute union dues. The phrase “right-to-work” sounds innocent enough, but make no mistake, it intends to weaken unions and increase corporate profits. We now have the most unequal society since the Gilded Age of the 1890s. And Republicans, the party of the 1 percent, as the recent tax bill demonstrated, have already signaled they are coming after Medicare and Social Security. If you care about fairness, equity, and a society that works for everyone, vote accordingly in November.)

WASHINGTON POST
— DIERSEN HEADLINE: An anti-Trump says “House provides no 2019 pay raise for federal employees; conflicts with Senate.” How strongly will my critics/opponent, their operatives, and their dupes in the Milton Township Republican Central Committee, DuPage County Republican Central Committee, and the Illinois Republican Party hint/imply/argue/shout that those who voted for Trump a) want Trump to get rid of past, present, and future federal employees once and for all and b) especially want Trump to get rid of me? I was a federal employee for almost 30 years and I have been a federal retiree for almost 21 years.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2018/07/20/house-provides-no-2019-pay-raise-for-feds-conflicts-with-senate/
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: It’s been a tough week for federal employees. On Monday, there was yet another display that their top boss is hopelessly unsuited for the White House with President Trump’s obsequious behavior in front of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump undermined federal employees who reported Putin’s attack on the 2016 presidential election. On Tuesday, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee approved two measures that would speed the firing of feds by weakening civil service protections. On Thursday, the House effectively dumped on raising pay for federal employees in 2019 by passing an appropriations bill that included no increase. While the workforce and the rest of us are stuck with Trump for at least two more years, the House actions are not the final word on pay and disciplinary measures. . .House Republicans also don’t care for the current level of federal employees’ civil service protections. Two bills approved by the Oversight Committee with party-line votes would allow management to fire feds faster by weakening their workplace due-process rights. The measures require full House and Senate action before becoming law. One bill would accelerate disciplinary procedures, including termination, by cutting time allowed for appeals. The general probationary period for feds would double to two years, allowing more time to take disciplinary action against new employees who have fewer rights. Another piece of legislation would lower the burden of proof that managers need to fire workers, among other provisions. “Working for the United States federal government is an honor and a privilege, and most federal employees value the opportunity and work hard to serve the American people,” Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) said following the committee vote. “However, some federal employees have learned they can use the system to protect their jobs regardless of their poor performance or bad behavior.” He called the committee’s action “a huge step to creating a more efficient and effective government that works for the people, streamlining the process and lessening the time it takes to dismiss poor performing or negligent employees.” Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (Md.) the ranking Democrat on the Oversight Committee, disagreed. The legislation “raises serious concerns about fairness and due process,” he said, adding it “will weaken merit system principles and politicize the federal workforce.”)

FORBES
— Don’t Chase The Money! There Are More Important Things To Look For In A Job – Michael B. Arthur (DIERSEN: Have you taken a pay cut? I have. In 1980, when I was 31 years old, I took a $19,203 (26%) pay cut in today’s dollars (from GS-12 Step 5 down to GS-9 Step 10) to transfer from IRS to GAO. QUESTION: Why did I do that? ANSWER: GAO claimed to be nonpartisan and independent. My Democrat IRS superiors and Money Magazine had ruined my IRS career. GAO employees are somewhat less demonized, denigrated, and condemned than IRS employees are. Because GAO audits IRS, I could use my knowledge of IRS on audits of IRS. I had worked for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $81,071-$91,880. The GAO staff manager who hired me was confident that he could a) promptly get me assigned to audits of IRS and b) promptly promote me to GS-11 Step 10, currently $87,933, to GS-12 Step 5, currently $91,880, and to GS-13 Step 1, currently $96,403. But soon after I transferred to GAO, that GAO manager was deposed and he was not able to promote me to GS-11 Step 10 until 1981, to GS-12 Step 5 salary until 1982, and to GS-13 Step 1 until 1986. In 1986, he finally succeeded in getting me assigned to audits of IRS. In 1987, his Democrat superiors succeeded in forcing him to retire. To justify their forcing me to take a pay cut to transfer from IRS to GAO, my Democrat GAO superiors dismissed/belittled/badmouthed/demonized/denigrated/condemned a) my knowledge of IRS, b) my passing the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979, c) my almost completing the requirements for a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul and then my earning that degree in 1980, and d) my earning an MBA from Loyola in 1976. They would not have done that if I had been a Democrat, a minority, a female, or a veteran. Money Magazine, my Democrat superiors, GAO, IRS, and Post Office supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates, and the rest of my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always viciously demonized me, viciously denigrated me, and viciously condemned me as being overpaid.)

— If you are a conservative Republican, what discourages you from helping elect Republican candidates? For me, it is the candidate’s failure/refusal to defend/advance a) the traditional family, right to life, immigration, Second Amendment, and the rest of the planks in the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) platform and/or b) the illegal drugs, equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving), and the rest of the planks in the Republican Party platform. For me, it is the candidate’s failure/refusal to oppose the promotion of dependency on government, dependency on charity, LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, diminishment of Second Amendment rights, booze, gambling, pot, and other vices, patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation. In Illinois, the more actions that “Republican” activists, candidates, elected officials, party leaders, major donors, political consultants, etc. take against the IRP platform, the more that they shout that they are really Democrats, Libertarians, Greens, or RINOs. To get votes from Democrats, from Libertarians, and from Greens, “Republican” candidates who run as RINOs, that is, who run as anti-Republicans, want Republicans to oppose them. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Kimberly Jones is a trustee of Maine Township, Illinois. Because her comment about us at Wirepoints, made at an open board meeting, is pretty representative of what we hear from those who don’t like us, let me respond, to her and her kind. At a township board meeting last month, she said, ”Wirepoints is not a legitimate newspaper and is a political propaganda paper, not something that should be brought up in a governmental body.” (1:14 mark.) She was responding to a particular Wirepoints article from February by my colleague Ted Dabrowski highlighting how much taxes had increased and how little private sector incomes had risen in the township. Her “argument” is really just a variation of “arguments” all too common. They’re usually comprised of little more than ad hominems and some way to muzzle us is often the hope. Ms. Jones, you can start by going through our article to see that all our data came from credible, official sources. Which ones were wrong? What evidence do you have to the contrary? We spend extraordinary amounts of time trying to get our facts and numbers right. We use original sources and link to them whenever possible. We routinely publish opinions and analyses we don’t agree with. Our work has been cited approvingly in Barron’s, the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Forbes and many other publications. If we get something wrong we correct it, though I’m proud to say we’ve published nothing with a material error I know of in the five years we’ve been around, despite the complexity of what we cover. As for us being political, all of us at Wirepoints forego any campaign activity and political support, but if being fiscal realists is political, so be it. We wear that on our sleeves. We make no effort to hide our contempt for politicians, both Democrats and Republicans like you, who stand against reforms needed to restore Illinois and its municipalities to financial stability. Above all else, we believe in freedom of expression and the marketplace of ideas, especially in government forums like your board meeting at which you think our research should be suppressed. So, to you and others who offer nothing beyond name-calling, put up or shut up. And as for any call for us to be banned from township meetings or anywhere else, drop dead.)

WASHINGTON TIMES
— Trump’s strategic war on the media – Jennifer Harper
https://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/jul/19/inside-the-beltway-trumps-strategic-war-on-the-med/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Voters already know that President Trump has confronted a hostile news media, which has produced an unprecedented amount of negative coverage aimed at his campaign, presidency and administration for three years. The practice ultimately may backfire on the press; Americans dislike the media almost as much as the media dislikes Mr. Trump. Almost. Meanwhile, the president continues to maintain an adequate arsenal of ways to counter his journalistic foe. Mr. Trump has a fearless staff. He has a productive relationship with a handful of very powerful news organizations which support him. He bypasses the mainstream media with tactical tweets and social media outreach, issued at all hours. Most importantly, perhaps, Mr. Trump is an irresistible newsmaker and a hands-on master at creating a nimble counternarrative; he both infuriates and fascinates those journalists who attack him, squawk at one another — then race to craft a story. This has been going on since that pivotal moment when Mr. Trump announced his intention to run for president on June 16, 2015. “Politicians are all talk and no action. They will not bring us, believe me, to the promised land,” he told the crowd. But wait, there’s more. Mr. Trump also continues to issue his own substantial public opinion polls, as he has done since his campaign. The latest version is a collection of 27 questions, described by Mr. Trump in the public outreach as a “Mainstream Media Accountability Survey to show the media that the American people are fed up with the Fake News Machine.” He is succinct. Among the questions: “Do you believe the media disdains conservatives?”; “Do you believe the media fails to report on Democrats’ scandals?”; Do you believe that the media purposely tries to divide Republicans in order to help elect Democrats?”; “Do you believe that the Republican Party should spend more time and resources holding the mainstream media accountable?”)

WALL STREET JOURNAL
— (State pensions are) Doomed A new study shows that benefits are rising faster than GDP in most states. – Editorial
https://www.wsj.com/articles/why-your-pension-is-doomed-1532042985
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Pension costs are soaring across the country, and government unions blame politicians for “under-funding” benefits. Lo, if only taxes were higher, state budgets would be peachy. The real problem, as a new study shows, is that politicians have promised over-generous benefits. In a novel analysis, the Illinois-based policy outfit Wirepoints compared the growth of state pension liabilities relative to state GDP and fund assets. Most studies have examined “unfunded” pension liabilities, which is the difference between current assets and the present value of owed benefits. But this obfuscates the excessive pension promises that politicians have made.)

I left the nest in 1972 when I was 24 years old and bought a new town home in University Park. I might not have been able to do that a) if I had not earned a bachelor’s degree in management from NIU in 1970, b) if Firestone Stores had not hired me in 1970, c) if my financial hardship draft deferment application had been denied, d) if IRS had not hired me in 1971, e) if I had not continued to work for Firestone part-time, and f) if IRS had not promoted me in 1972.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Being a fledgling adult is harder in some ways than it used to be. Two years ago, the Pew Research Center reported that, for the first time in 130 years, adults ages 18 to 34 were more likely to live with parents than with a spouse or romantic partner in their own home. And those who don’t go to college face a bleak future. Americans with no more than a high school diploma have fallen so far behind college graduates that the earnings gap between college grads and everyone else has reached its widest point on record, CBS News reported last year. At the same time, rent has increased 64 percent from 1960 to 2014, while household incomes have only increased 18 percent.)

Unlike with traditional IRAs, you don’t get a tax deduction for your contribution to a Roth IRA. But all the money in the account, including gains, can be withdrawn tax-free at retirement. If only you had jumped in to a Roth IRA at the beginning, you would have a small tax-free fortune today. . .Now, the only question is where you will find the money to invest over the next 20 years. In hindsight, you can certainly see the opportunities that you missed in the past. Was that vacation worth the high pricetag, or would it have been better to invest in a Roth IRA? That closet of outdated clothes? The handbag that you simply had to have? All consumed your future.)

GAO, I would have presented a jury with many examples in which GAO paid its female employees who had less job-related work experience than I had, less job-related education than I had, fewer or no professional certifications, and/or no professional licenses higher salaries than GAO paid me. I worked for IRS 1971-1980 and for GAO 1980-1997. I earned a) a job-related bachelor’s degree when I was 21 in 1970 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) a job-related professional license when I was 32.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/business/20180715/employers-are-finally-ready-to-talk-about-how-much-they-pay
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Until recently, none of the 170 employees working at Verve, a marketing company, knew what anyone else made. Now, everyone’s salary is listed on an internal document for everyone to see. By 2019, all 1,100 employees at CareHere, a Nashville based health-care company, will know the pay ranges for all positions in the company. Fog Creek, a New York-based software company with about three dozen employees, did the same last year. As did Hired, an online job search network in San Francisco that employs 200 people. Employers have long discouraged talking about money at work, in part because obscuring salary information keeps compensation costs down. But that attitude is starting to change. In a survey of almost 2,000 employers by the consulting firm Willis Towers Watson, more than half of the respondents said they plan to increase transparency around pay decisions in the next year. Pay transparency can mean a lot of things. A minority of companies are taking the most extreme approach, where everyone knows what everyone else makes. A larger share of companies are letting employees in on the voodoo behind their pay practices and explaining what goes into compensation decisions. Others are revealing pay ranges for positions and posting that information alongside job listings.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: “Under DBE, any firm owned by a woman or minority is automatically presumed to have faced discrimination,” Wally Zimolong, of Philadelphia’s Zimolong LLC, told Prairie State Wire. “It’s nonsense. Of course, to get rid of me, they always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for PFP purposes.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Reader: At the end of every year, my company conducts management reviews, assigning a rating of 1 (unacceptable) to 5 (outstanding) to everyone who was an employee during the year, whether or not they’re still at the company. The performance rating system requires a fixed distribution of workers – a certain percentage at each level every year. While finding workers deserving a “1” rating was relatively easy at first, over time it became a problem to assign “unacceptable” to workers who are perfectly acceptable. To meet the fixed distribution goal, management’s solution has been to assign “1” to workers who retired during the year, regardless of their performance. The retirees won’t see the “1” rating, but they also won’t receive the prorated annual bonus they would otherwise receive for the time they worked in their last year. This seems unethical. What do you think?)

In today’s dollars, my GAO salary was $125,325/year, but my Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) pension is $73,461/year less than that, or only $51,864/year. (FROM THE ARTICLE: The western Chicago suburb of Forest Park became the fifth Illinois community since early last year to suffer a multi-level rating cut from Moody’s Investors Service with pension strains cited a key factor. Moody’s (MCO) dropped the village just west of Chicago three levels to Baa1 from A1. The downgrade earlier this month affects about $7.2 million of outstanding debt. The outlook remains negative. The downgrade “is based on the village’s weakened reserve position, structurally imbalanced operations and a high and growing pension burden.” The village of about 14,000 residents has limited ability to raise local revenues and is dependent on uncertain state revenue sources. In its favor is a growing tax base and modest debt burden. “The negative outlook reflects ongoing operating deficits,” Moody’s (MCO) said. “The village’s pension contributions are also very weak relative to plan funding, pointing to further growth in its unfunded liabilities.”)

The employee, identified as Michael Miselis by ProPublica and “Frontline,” no longer is employed by the company. But Northrop was slow to respond to the allegations, and the news organizations also reported that he had remained employed even after his superiors had been informed of his actions. In an email to company employees at the time, Bush said that Northrop “would take the appropriate actions to make sure that our foundation remains strong well into the future.” Asked whether the Miselis’ alleged affiliation with a white supremacist group played a role in Bush’s decision to resign, Northrop’s Paynter said “absolutely not.”)

— Democratic congressman regrets saying Strzok deserves Purple Heart – Breck Dumas (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes glorify and praise a) my Democrat superiors in the federal government and b) the adverse actions that they took against me. I should write a book about them. One of my most ferocious critics in Wheaton is a close relative of my GAO superior who in 1989 succeeded in a) throwing me off audits of IRS, b) giving me an adverse job assignment, and c) getting my supervisor to give me unfair performance expectations and an unfair performance appraisal. His efforts to get rid of me were so strong and so successful that I sought help from Henry Hyde.)

They are beyond furious that I have enough time and money that I can afford to and I do spend 10+ hours each and every day putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out.)

— If you want to know whether Strzok was biased, just look at his texts – Paul Callan (DIERSEN: Of course, my critics/opponents deny that they are biased against me or against those who share my demographics. I would stress the adverse actions that they took against me and the real reasons why they took those adverse actions against me.)

The trouble for many people is that they do not know how much savings they need to generate the annual income they’ll require during retirement. Frustrated or confused, maybe even outright worried, they don’t even try to figure out if their retirement savings are on track for their age and pay.)
